Terry L. Reeder, 67, passed away at his home on April 27, 2018 at 3:30 a.m.

 

Terry was born on February 14, 1951 in Pittsfield, IL; son of Lyndle and Betty (Martin) Reeder. He married Gail Berger on May 9, 1998 in Lincoln, IL. She survives him.

 

Also, surviving are his two sons: Todd and Matt Reeder; his siblings: Bill Reeder, Steve (Susie) Reeder, Laurie (Tom) Branham, Becky (Ed) winner, and Doug Reeder; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Terry was a member of Lincoln Christian Church. Terry also worked for Pepsi Cola as a Route Driver.

 

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family of Terry. Services have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Charles V. 'Chuck' Leach

Charles V. (Chuck) Leach, 63, of Maroa, IL passed away Tuesday April 24, 2018 in his home with his family by his side.

 

Chuck was born December 28, 1954 in Decatur, IL son of Charles E. and Juanita LaThorne (Willis) Leach. He married Tina Ferrill April 6, 1974 and they have a son, Charles Ross, Maroa, IL.

 

Chuck was a life long resident of Maroa, an outstanding athlete and a 1973 graduate of Maroa-Forsyth High School. He was a die hard Cubs fan and an avid outdoorsman. Chuck was a member of Maroa Masonic Lodge #454, Scottish Rite of Springfield and Ansar Shrine. 

 

Chuck was employed at Wagner Casting for 32 years and was currently employed at Carry Transit in Decatur, IL.

 

He leaves behind his wife Tina and son Charlie both of Maroa. Sisters Beverly Leimbach of Clinton, and Belinda Stiles of DeWitt. He will be missed by many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and LaThorne, in-laws Ross and Dorothy. Brother and sister-in-law Teri and Tom Hogan. Brothers-in-law William R. Leimbach and Jerry Lee Stiles.

 

Per Chuck’s request, no services will be accorded. Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, IL assisted the family with cremation rites.

 

Memorials can be made to Maroa-Forsyth Athletic Department or Macon County Humane Society.

Services will be 12:00 PM Noon, Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Pastor Darren Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. There will be no visitation.

Florine was born January 13, 1938 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Harry Magill and Eva Mae (Rice) Foster.

 

Survivors include her children:  Randall Dean Ayers, Clinton, IL; Cindy R. (Kirk) Ayers Bandeko, Normal, IL; Wiley Ayers, Jr., Lincoln, IL; Bradley Ayers, Clinton, IL; Beverly J. Jackson, Riddle, OR; step-daughter, Judy (Greg) Plattner, St. Louis, MO; step-son, Bob Payne, Owaneco, IL; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sibling, Sandy Taylor, Clinton, IL.

 

She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Lee Ayers; step-son, Mike Payne, Jr.; and brother, George Foster.

 

Florine liked to watch TV and she loved to fish.

Dorothy L. Smock

Dorothy L. Smock, 70, passed away at 2:33 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at her home.

 

Cremation Rites have been accorded. 

 

A Memorial Mass will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clinton. 

 

A time of visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

 

Dorothy Louise Gleason was born June 24, 1947, in Godfrey, Ill., the daughter of Basil and Geraldine Craft Gleason.  She first married Gary Jenkins.  Dorothy later married Charles Smock on June 14, 1981.  She was a widow.

 

Dorothy is survived by her daughter: Marla (Jon) Menter of Clinton, step-son Russel (June) Smock of Mulberry Grove, Ill, five grandchildren: James Mendenall and Joseph Menter of Bethany, Ill., Jesse Menter of Chicago, Burgandy (Nick Johnston) Bilyeu and Cheyenne Menter of Clinton; four great-grandchildren: Amelia and Audrey Mendenall of Bethany and Peyton and Nicholas Johnston of Clinton; one brother: Jon Gleason of Carrollton, Ill.; and one sister: Diane Bowman of Godfrey, Ill.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister: Margaret Alesandrini; one brother: Basil Gleason, Jr.; and her husband, Charles Smock.

 

Memorials may be made to her family or Second Chance for Pets in Clinton.

Burial will be in Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Iseminger was born May 9, 1935, in Chatsworth, Illinois, to Ralph and Geneva Shepard Spence. She married Otis Duane Iseminger on October 31, 1953, in Bloomington, Illinois. He passed away October 1, 2004.

 

She is survived by her one son, Otis Duane (Sheila) Iseminger Jr. of Bloomington, Illinois; two daughters, Dixie (Jack) Casey of Bloomington, Illinois and Donna (Michael) Kirkwood of Bloomington, Illinois; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Richard Spence of California, Lawrence Spence of Bloomington, Illinois, Jerry (Sandy) Spence of Hudson, Illinois, and Rodger Spence of Effingham, Illinois; and two sisters, Beulah Spence and Mary Anderson both of Bloomington, Illinois.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons and two brothers, Chuck and Kenneth Spence.

 

Esther had worked for J & W Motors as a secretary and attended Faith Fellowship Center, Heyworth, Illinois.

Jean Rae Hayes

Jean Rae Hayes, 78, of Downs, went to be with the Lord at 10:15 p.m. Thursday (April 19, 2018) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

 

Jean was born to Ray and Geneva Patterson in Brazil, Ind., on June 2, 1939. Jean married Richard Hayes on Sept. 14, 1963, and they were married for 54 years. Richard survives in Downs. They spent many wonderful years together enjoying life.

 

Jean is survived by many who love her, including son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Leigh Hayes, and granddaughters, Ericka Leigh and Ashlyn Rae; son and daughter-in-law, David and Connie Voegele, and grandchildren, Will (Brandi) Watson; son, John Voegele, and grandchildren, Joey, Johnny, and Jeanna; two brothers, Butch Clarence Jr. (Lenda) Patterson and Dennis (Sheila) Patterson; five sisters, Janice (Ronnie) Balla, Lynda Flowers, Kay Bruner, Donna (Ron) Saathoff and Sherry (Carl) Wiley; one aunt, Irene Rose; special friend, Stella Kidwell; 12 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

 

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Margaret.

 

Jean was a cook at Illinois State University for many years. She enjoyed retirement for 18 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, friends, and grandchildren. She was a wonderful example of kindness and generosity. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and funny laughter. The best stories were told by Jean and she was sure to make you laugh. She will be missed by all her knew her.

 

Jean would have been 79 on June 2. An open house celebration of life and luncheon is planned June 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Downs United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend to honor Jean and share in her memory. The family suggests memorials be made to Jean’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

 

The family would also like to send a special Thank You to the nurses and hospice team at Advocate BroMenn.

Carol Joan Alsup, 71, of Beason, IL, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL.

 

Carol was born on August 28, 1946 in Logan County, IL, the daughter of Irvin Earl and Wardie (Coates) Schroth. She married Larry Alsup on August 19, 1965 he survives in Beason.

 

Carol is also survived by her children, Michael Alsup of Beason, Lisa (Tyler) Messer of Burlington, IA, and Lynne (Randall) Maus of Mt. Pulaski; her grandchildren, Haley Maus, Emily Maus, Kira Messer, and Toby Messer; one great-grandchild, Tinley Rubenacker; her sisters, Norma Shehorn of Mt. Pulaski, and Sonia (Paul) Heft of Chestnut.

 

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Lori Kocialkowski; her brothers, Charles and Dean; and her sister, Elizabeth.

 

Carol was a homemaker; and the caretaker of Harmony Cemetery in Beason, IL. She truly loved being the caretaker of the cemetery. Carol also enjoyed studying genealogy and drinking coffee with her friends. Above all else, Carol loved her family; especially spending time with her grandchildren. 

 

Services for Carol will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Mt. Pulaski Christian Church, with Mark Weber officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services (10:00-11:00a.m.). Memorials may be made in Carol’s name to Decatur Memorial Hospital. Services have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mt. Pulaski.

Glenn R. 'Rick' Gill Jr.

Glenn R. “Rick” Gill Jr. 58, of Clinton passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in his home.

 

Glenn was born on November 18, 1959 in Queens, NY; the son of Glenn and Shirley (Gillum) Gill Sr. He married Cassie Jean in Elizabethtown, KY; she preceded him in death in 2013. 

 

Glenn is survived by his mother, Shirley Gill; his brother, Brian (Bobbie) Gill; his sister, Pamela (Eddie) Johnson; his step-children, Michael Deckard and Michelle Best. Additionally, he is survived by his step-grandchildren, Lachelle Best, Chantasia Best, Briaunna Deckard, Dustin Taulbe, Makayla Deckard, Matthew Deckard, Austin Deckard; and one step-great-grandchild, Colton.

 

Glenn was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Cassie; his daughter, Melinda Ann Gill; his step-son, Matthew Deckard; one brother; two sisters; his grandparents; several aunts and uncles.

 

Glenn Proudly served his country in The U.S. Army. He worked in Environmental Services at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Glenn was a member of USABOT (U.S. Army Brotherhood of Tankers); he was also a member of USCRA (United States Calvary Riders Association).

A Celebration of Glenn’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Memorial donations may be made in Glenn’s name to Memorial Hospice or The American Cancer Society.

Marie Mitchell Cavanaugh

Marie Mitchell Cavanaugh, 95, of Monticello, passed away at 4:55 p.m., April 19, 2018 at Fair Havens Christian Village, Decatur.

 

Marie was born on February 26, 1923 in Reeves, LA to Steven and Ella (Seily) Isreal. She was one of seven girls. She married Marshal R. ‘Mitch’ Mitchell on December 22, 1945 in Kankakee, IL. He passed away February 19, 2006. She married Jim Cavanaugh on April 28, 2012.

 

Marie is survived by her husband, Jim Cavanaugh of Monticello; daughter, Melissa Mitchell of Monticello; sons, Marty Mitchell (Vicky) of Peoria, Kevin Mitchell (Jayne) of Portland, OR, Mark Mitchell (Kurt) of Tucson, AZ; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, son Steven, grandson Matthew, and six sisters.

 

Marie was a housewife. She graduated from Reeves High School, attended School of Nursing, Shreveport, LA, and Parkland College. Marie was a member of the Centerville United Methodist Church, Faith in Action, Centerville United Methodist Women, and was a volunteer at the Piatt County Nursing Home. She also knitted many scarves for the Provena Mitten Tree Project. She loved people, had many friends, and was kind to everyone. Marie will be remembered for all the cards and notes she sent and for the many good deeds she did that no one knows about.

 

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello with Rev. Cindy Rettig and Rev. Gary Fairchild officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery.

 Robert E. McQuality, 91, of Gainesville, Mo., formerly of Warrensburg, died Monday (April 16, 2018).

Robert was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Decatur, the son of Calvin and Beulah McQuality. He was a World War II Navy veteran and retired from Mueller Co. He married Jane Mosier on Feb. 18, 1950. 

 

Surviving are his children, Betty (Dennis) Hughes and Vicki Baumgartner, both of Decatur; Mark (fiance Julie Carter) McQuality of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Wanda was born January 2, 1957 in Danville, IL, daughter of John Kenneth and Leona Marilyn (Wheeler) Sherman. She married Leslie C. Carter October 6, 1982, in Cerro Gordo. 

 

Wanda enjoyed working puzzle books and crafts.

 

Wanda is survived by husband of 35 years, Leslie of Cerro Gordo; son: Christopher C. Carter and wife Sara J. of Cerro Gordo; grandsons: Russ and Noah; sister: Kathy Bingham and husband Dave of Mt. Zion; brother: John L. Sherman of Arcola, MO; and nephews: Zach and Zander Bingham. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Patty.

Tia Marie Cannon, 41, of Heyworth, formerly of Minonk, passed away at 10:42 p.m. Sunday (April 15, 2018) at UnityPoint Health-Methodist, Peoria.

 

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, with the Rev. Ed Sinclair officiating. Burial will follow at Minonk Township Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

 

Tia was born Feb. 9, 1977, in Bloomington, the daughter of Floyd B. Phinney and Patricia S. Cannon. She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents. Surviving are her parents, four brothers, two sisters, eight nieces and nephews, and her fiancé, David Swearingen.

 

She was a pre-K teacher at Posh Tots Academy, Metamora, where she was very loved by the children, parents and staff. She made Vale Church in Bloomington her home and looked forward to Sunday services. Tia believed in Jesus Christ, His promises and His plan and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior. Tia loved her family, loved planning get-togethers, entertaining and most of all spending time with her twin sister and best friend, Teresa (Curtis) Zoss.

 

In her spare time, she enjoyed being with family and taking her nieces on adventures. She enjoyed watching the Cubs play and other sporting events. She loved to be outside with nature. Hiking, playing bags, exercising, viewing robins and rescuing animals were just some of her passions. Easter was her favorite holiday, and she loved a nice sunny spring day and a clear blue sky.

 

Tia will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her laugh, her faith and her toughness. She loved life and will be missed by many.

Harold V. Goodman

Harold V. Goodman, 89. We can only imagine the glorious reunion of our father, Harold Vernon Goodman, age 89, as he made his journey to the Lord in Heaven, and gained his heavenly body. 

 

Harold was the son of the late Vernon and Elizabeth (Stuan) Goodman. He married Phyllis Ann Hellman on August 20, 1950. She preceded him in death. He was a member of Jefferson Street Christian Church.

 

Harold was a hardworking man starting at the age of 14 years old. He worked with his father and brother at V. Goodman Transfer in Lincoln, IL, until 1983. He then worked alongside his sons at Harold Goodman Excavating and Trucking, Lincoln, IL and on the family farm. He was a longtime farmer and trustee for the Lincoln Rural Fire Department for 26 years; he was also a REACT member and was on the West Lincoln School Board. He had a strong work ethic and cared about the community. He loved his family and friends and above all he loved the Lord. Harold had a love for life. He liked to go to Branson and playing cards at the Oasis with his companion Pauline Boward, who preceded him in death. Harold was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, and racing fan. He sponsored several cars in the county. He also liked watching LCHS Railer basketball. Harold was a kind and generous man to those who knew him and you may have been a recipient of his many hugs. He would give you anything you needed, all you had to do was ask. 

 

He is the last remaining member of his immediate family. He is survived by his three sons, Scott (Debbie) Goodman, Steve (Cindy) Goodman, and Stacy (Kim) Goodman; nine grandchildren: Stefanie Crane (Scott Wilkinson), Shelly (Dale) Miller, Austin Goodman (Hailey Birch), Steven (Jessica) Goodman, Shanna (Chris) Schneider, Shanae (Bret) Tripplett, Samantha Goodman (Dustin Miller), Becca Hagerman (Jeremy Sinnett), and Kelsey Hall; sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother: Walter Goodman.

 

Harold set a wonderful example for all his family and will be greatly missed.

 

Services for Harold will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 24, 2018 at Jefferson Street Christian Church with Michael Mallick officiating. Visitation will be from 400-7:00 p.m. Monday April 23, 2018 also at the church. Burial at Lucas Chapel Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be made in Harold’s name to Jefferson Street Christian Church or The Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District. Carol Ann “Aunt Sissy” Holloway, 84, of Heyworth, Illinois, passed away at 4:12 P.M., Friday, April 13, 2018, at Liberty Village , Clinton, Illinois. 

 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 21, 2018, at The Chat N Chew Café, 104 East Main Street, Heyworth, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to Heyworth Public Library District. 

 

Carol was born March 18, 1934, in Bloomington, Illinois, to James Chester and Marie Ione Graham Holt. She married Harvey Holloway Jr. in Heyworth, Illinois, in November of 1954.

 

She is survived by one sister, Toni (Dale Maxedon) Schmidgall and over forty loving nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, whom all meant the world to her.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Patricia Dickerson.

 

Carol was a nurse at Dr. Cummings office in Heyworth for many years. She worked at and retired from Eureka-Williams. She enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida. 

 

Carol was a loving sister, aunt and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

Mary F. 'Peggy' Scott

Mary F. "Peggy” Scott, 93, of Mt. Pulaski, passed away at 12:25 P.M. on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

 

Peggy was born on July 5, 1924 in Logan County the daughter of Samuel Nelson and Hattie Mae (Michael) Downing. She married Dean Scott on October 26, 1940 in Bowling Green, MO. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2014 after 72 years of marriage. 

 

Peggy is survived by three daughters, Kathy (Franklin) Richardson of Mt. Pulaski, Judy (Lyndel) Emrick of Mt. Pulaski, and Gloria Reynolds of Marion, TX. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Deborah; two brothers, Dean and Hubert Downing; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

 

Peggy worked for JCPenney in Lincoln for 14 years and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pulaski.

 

Services for Peggy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski, with Rev. Zoila Marty officiating.  Alma Jean Buchholz, 89, of Lincoln passed away at 7:30 a.m. on April 14, 2018 at her residence.

 

Alma was born on November 17, 1928 in Lincoln, IL; the daughter of Paul and Florence (Gallagher) Aderman. Alma was baptized on Easter Sunday, 1942 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1951. She married Harmon Edward Buchholz of New Holland, IL on January 26, 1947. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2003.

 

Alma is survived by her sister-in-law: Lois Smith, Lincoln, IL and her children: Joyce Connor, Hillsboro, IL, Lori Jackson, Springfield, IL, and Bruce (Terrica) Buchholz, Lincoln, IL; seven grandchildren: Jenny (Jason) Erick, North Carolina, Jeremy (Shanna) Connor and Chase (Amber) Connor of Hillsboro, IL, Kelly Hubbard, Springfield, IL, Tera (Nic) Clark, Florence, KY, Blake (Megan) Buchholz, New Holland, IL, and Luke Jackson, Springfield, IL; eleven great grandchildren: Bryce, Brynn, and Brylee Connor, Kaya, Vincent, and Merritt Connor, Tyson, Jace, and Tavin Clark, and Beckett and Baylor Buchholz. Nieces and nephews: Kenny (Kathy) Aderman of Atlanta, IL, Janice (Dale) Coffman of MO, Randy (Linda) Krause of Port Gamble, WA, and Lynde (Bruce) Hays of Rochester, IL. Alma enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and caregivers. She was a member of Neighborhood Watch, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church, New Holland Women’s Club, Girl Scouts of New Holland, Lincoln Cancer Board, American Legion Aux 715, Lincoln Emblem Club, American Business Women, National Foundation of Elks Club, and Goodwill for Scouts.

 

Services for Alma will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 21, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger David officiating. He is survived by his wife, Regeanna Jean of Saybrook; son, Richard Scott (Teresa) Jean of Saybrook; daughter, Jamey Jo Jean of Saybrook; eight grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. 

 

He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Allan Jean, two brothers and two sisters.

 

Thomas retired from the University of Illinois. He loved hunting, fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

Abraham was born on February 12, 1934, in Middletown, IL; son of William and Helen (Rogers) Anderson. He married Betty L. Brown on May 12, 1953, in Williamsville, IL. She preceded him death on December 25, 2009.

 

Surviving Abraham are his children:, Abraham Anderson Jr. of Middletown, IL, Mike Anderson of Clinton, IL, Dennis (Judy) Anderson Sr. of Lincoln, IL, Kevin (Patti) Anderson of Texas, and Lona (Mark) Mann of Lincoln, IL; two sisters: Mary Etta Rogers of Westhoff, TX and Elsie Tibbs of Middletown, IL; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Barbara J. Bergman, one sister: Flora Tibbs, and four brothers: Bill, Bob, Ben, and Lem Anderson.

 

Abraham proudly served in the United States Army. He loved gardening and giving away his produce. He enjoyed his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Bud and Betty were the foundation that kept the family together.

Stephen was born May 22, 1964 in Fort Worth, TX, the son of Ronald Stephen and Janet (Andrews) Hines. He worked as a sheet metal worker for Local 218. During his leisure he liked to have his coffee at Diamonds. He enjoyed hunting and was a strong volunteer for Good Samaritan and Love Packages. He was also a sound room technician volunteer for Resurrection Life.

Marilyn worked at Federal Land Bank in Champaign, Illinois from 1959-1964. She also worked two years at a bank.

 

Marilyn spent many years doing Genealogy research. She was a former member of the DeLand United Methodist Church.

Barbara was born May 7, 1935, in Lincoln Illinois, to Frank William and Idabel Baker Steiling. 

 

She is survived by Steiling and Baker cousins and her loving church family. 

 

Barbara was the ultimate community volunteer. She would deliver to all new residents of Heyworth a welcome basket with a loaf of homemade bread. She was on the Hey-Days Committee, Heyworth Alumni Assoc. and sang in the Sweet Adeline’s Group for many years. She was Grand Marshall for the Heyworth Christmas Parade in 2008. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Heyworth, singing in the choir and taking part in many programs at the church. Barbara loved the Lord. She would always say, “Today is the day the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it.”

Ronald 'Ron' Fonger

Ronald “Ron” Fonger, 80, of Solon Springs, WI, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center, in Duluth, MN. 

 

He was born August 26, 1937, near Downs, IL, to William “Lyle” and Bonnie McDowell Fonger. He married Nancy Shaw in November of 1955. They had two daughters, Renae and Toni.

 

He then married Shirley Burgess, whom Toni refers to as, “Ma”.

 

He then married Julia Drake Korleski, who had six children. Julia’s daughter, Deb (Ed) Coblentz, looked after “Dad” since her mother passed away in April of 2010.

 

He is survived by his two daughters, Renae Strawbridge of Mahomet, IL, and Toni (Rick) Fonger-Patton of Normal, IL; grandchildren, Courtney Borth, Jacob (Jessica) Borth, Tiffany (Brent) Huisinga, and Joshua Strawbridge; great-grandchildren, Aly, Greyson, Dominic, Libby, Jace, and Lucas.

 

Ron worked as a carpenter alongside his dad building many homes in Bloomington-Normal and surrounding counties in Illinois. He continued his carpentry business in every town and city in which he lived, earning an honest living, providing quality remodels, etc. He has resided in Solon Springs for the past 30 plus years where he continued his business until retiring a few years ago.

 

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses for the wonderful, loving care they gave him during his hospitalization.

 

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Cheryl was born April 28, 1957, in Aurora, IL the daughter of Charles and Patricia Sears. She married David Lee Ballenger October 25, 1975, in Clinton, IL. He passed away June 7, 2014.

 

Survivors include her sons: Brian (Ashley) Ballenger, Pottsboro, TX, and Michael Ballenger, Clinton, IL; 4 grandchildren, Breanna, Abbigale, Bryce and Makenna; three siblings: Chuck (Claudia) Sears, Texarkana, Tx, Jeannie Lawson, Clinton, IL and Patricia Sims (Mike Glass), Denison, TX; along with 8 nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Cheryl started her own business at the age of 15 and had fond memories of the Cinnamon Dots baton twirlers. Later she worked in restaurant management development.

 

Cheryl continued to live life to the fullest even after her cancer diagnosis. Some of her favorite memories include vacations to Texas, Florida and a sibling Las Vegas vacation. Her greatest regret is that she will miss watching her grandchildren grow and being a part of their future milestones. 

 

Cheryl will be missed greatly by those she leaves behind and the family has suffered an incredible loss.

Maxine B. Laun

Maxine B. Laun, 98, of Lincoln, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Abraham Lincoln Hospital, Lincoln, IL.

 

Maxine was born on November 3, 1919, in Logan County, daughter of George W. and Marie (Seefeldt) Laun. After graduating from Hartsburg High School, she attended Business College in Peoria. She continued to live and work in Peoria, eventually retiring from Caterpillar in 1985. In 2005 she and her sister Mary purchased a duplex at Christian Village in Lincoln to make their home.

 

Maxine is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George "Buss” Laun; sisters, Mary Laun, Dorothy Laun, and Betty Litwiller; brother-in-law, Carol "Sonny” Litwiller; and nephew, Neil Litwiller. 

 

She is survived by two nieces and five nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Sara Laun.

 

Services for Maxine will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Hartsburg Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincoln First United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Reva was born February 17, 1941, in Clinton, IL the daughter of Roy Everett and Ruth Josephine (Nelson) Carter. She married Delbert L. Jones April 18, 1959.

Reva was preceded in death by her parents, daughter: Trena Joann Jones, brother: Lloyd Carter and sister: Carolyn Miller.

 

Reva was a member of the Lane Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, and card making and decorating for church functions.

Zachary Andrew Cornell, 34, of Warrensburg, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 after a long battle with Leukemia. 

 

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Monday, April 9, at Life Foursquare Church, Decatur, with visitation two hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with the arrangements. 

 

Zac was born July 22, 1983, in Decatur, IL, son of Donald Cornell and Janie Cornell-Vankleek. He married his wife, Arica Cornell on July 23, 2011. 

 

Zac attended MacArthur High School. He was an operator at Tate & Lyle until his diagnosis with AML Leukemia. He loved hunting and fishing, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. 

 

Zac leaves behind his wife, Arica of Warrensburg; children: Kaley Cornell, Carter Cornell and Ally Donohue, all of Warrensburg; siblings: Megan Cornell, Joshua Cornell, both of Decatur, and Molly Cornell of Dawson, IL; step-sisters: Jennifer Vankleek of Nebraska and Michell (Kevin) Simons of Iowa; nephew: Payton Nimmons of Decatur and Karmynn Lopez of Dawson, IL; his special in-laws Bob and Tamara Foley of Decatur; brother-in-law: Aaron Woolever of Florida; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, especially Aunt Jill Nisbet and Uncle Jon Constant. 

 

Zac was preceded in death by his step-father James VanKleek, his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, sister-in-law Amber Vallandingham, and his special childhood friend Mark Ingram. 

 

A very special thank you to Dr. S. Kairouz and his wonderful staff, DMH Hospice Ty and Sandy, his doctors at Barnes Hospital, and to all his family and friends, and neighbors. (You know who you are). 

 

Zac was a fighter - he never gave up and kept his sense of humor till the very end.

Charles T. Lindsey, 65, of Lincoln, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, Illinois.

Charles was born April 10, 1952, in Lincoln, Illinois, to Charles and Mabel Lorene Decker. He married Debbie Thompson on November 1, 2013, in Lincoln, Illinois.

 

He is survived by his son, Christopher Macrander of Lincoln, Illinois; two granddaughters, Allie Olsen and Ashley Schultz; sister, Hazel (Charles) Law of Heyworth, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; parents-in-law, James (Janet) Stout of Elwood, Indiana; and family dogs, Zoe and Brownie.

 

Charles was preceded in death by two sisters, Rena and Helen Lindsey and one brother, Randall Lindsey.

 

Charles was a bus driver for District 87 First Student in Bloomington. He was a member of the Jefferson Street Christian Church Lincoln, Illinois.

Georgia Inger Clifton, 85, of Le Roy, Illinois, passed away at 1:40 P.M., Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, Illinois.

Mrs. Clifton was born June 1, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, to Adolph Christian and Ailene Gertrude Gilmore Midthun. She married Wesley George Clifton on October 7, 1961, in Oak Park, Illinois. He survives in 

Le Roy, Illinois.

 

Also, surviving are three daughters, Kari Beth Clifton of Pensacola, Florida, Juliane Marie Sama of Elmwood Park, Illinois, and Stephanie Rose Clifton of Carlock, Illinois; three grandchildren, David, Adam and Brian Sama; and one sister, Cecilia (Jack) Horner of Ames, Iowa.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents and one brother, Adolph Christian Midthun Jr.

 

Georgia graduated from Oak Park-River Forest High School in 1950. She was a 1954 graduate of St. Olaf College at Northfield, MN. She was a 1957 Graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago and then served there as an instructor. She was a volunteer nurse at Our Lady of Angels School, Chicago, and a registered nurse at Rush Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago and BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal and retired in 1995.

David was born January 31, 1958, in Gibson City, IL, to George Eugene and Joyce Ann Giberson Gibson.

Martha was born September 23, 1915, at Meadows, Illinois, a daughter of Joseph William & Pearl Lehman Zimmerman.

 

She is survived by her twelve nieces and nephews; thirty-four great-nieces and nephews; forty-six great-great-nieces and nephews; several cousins; brother-in-law, Russell Williams of Bloomington, Illinois; sister-in-law, Pat Zimmerman of Saybrook, Illinois.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Emmett Zimmerman and Paul Zimmerman and three sisters, Edna Williams, Lorene Wilson, and Mildred Wills.

 

Martha was a 1933 graduate of Saybrook Community High School, Saybrook, Illinois. She was a retired secretary. Martha was very active in the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook, Illinois. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, Saybrook, Illinois, and the 1934 Card Club of Saybrook, Illinois. Martha was known for her baking, handcrafts and crocheting.

Dr. Robert C. Kurka

 Dr. Robert C. Kurka, 64, passed away at 5:11 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family.

 

Robert was born on June 6, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, IA; son of Charles and Vera (Faltus) Kurka. He married Beverley Petersen on June 1, 1974, at Akron, IA. She survives him.

 

Surviving Robert are his children: Holly (Randy) Zehr, Lara (Josh) O’Donoghue and Amber (Lee Funke) Kurka, 14 grandchildren, and one sister, Sherry (Brian) Pierson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary.

 

Robert was a professor of Theology in Church and Culture at Lincoln Christian University with a Doctorate in Ministry. Robert was a member and elder at Lincoln Christian Church played violin in a string quartet, and was involved in community theatre. He taught around the world in Asia, Africa, and Haiti.

 

Service for Robert will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Lincoln Christian University Chapel, Lincoln, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, also at Lincoln Christian University Chapel. Burial at New Union Cemetery will follow the service. 

 

Memorials may be made in Robert’s name to the Dr. Robert C. Kurka Scholarship Endowment, Lincoln Christian Church, Safe Haven Hospice, or Pioneer Bible Translators. Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home is entrusted with services.

Lois Sablotny

 Lois Sablotny, 102, passed away at 2:27 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Copper Creek Cottages in Lincoln, IL.

 

Lois was born on July 13, 1915, in Campbellsville, KY; daughter of Butler J. and May (Reed) Biggs. She married Charles J. Sablotny on January 27, 1934, in Pekin, IL. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2000.

 

Surviving Lois are her children: Carolyn Gerling of Bloomington, IL and Judith (Larry) Braughton of Olive Branch, MS; grandchildren: Broch (Jackie) Gerling of Grandville, IL, Brihta Gerling of Bloomington, IL, John (Stephanie) Braughton of Maysville, KY, and Jason Braughton of Olive Branch, MS; great-grandchildren: Tessa Gerling, Asher Braughton, Allison Braughton, and Kaylin Braughton. 

 

Mrs. Sablotny was associated with her husband in business for many years in Lincoln. Upon retirement, she served with him in lay-missions, working in Lebanon, Belgium, Germany, France, Sri Lanka, Alaska, Haiti, and Egypt.

 

A private family graveside was held on Friday, March 30, 2018, at New Union Cemetery with Rev. Darren Palmer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lois’ name to missions of the church of the donor’s choice. Services were entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, IL.

Donald L. North

Donald L. North, 93 of Clinton, IL, passed away surrounded by family, 2:00 PM April 3, 2018, at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, IL.

 

Donald was born April 21, 1924, in Clinton, IL the son of Erva C. and Dorothy (West) North. He married Connie (Suedmeier) North July 22, 1944, in Hollywood, CA. She passed away in 1976. 

 

Survivors include his son: John W. (Lynn) North, Edwardsville, IL; daughter: Julie E. North, Clinton, IL; grandchildren: Robb (Becky) Walters and Wendy (Brian) Walters DeMent, Clinton, IL, Ryan (Tina) North , Minneapolis, MN and Erin (Dave) Schiek, St. Louis, MO; great grandchildren: Rachel, Matthew, Jadon and Rebekah DeMent, Zander North, Emerson and William Schiek; brothers: William North and James (Martha) North, Clinton, IL; and son-in-law: Robert Walters, Weldon, IL.

 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Marsha North Walters; sister-in-law: Glenda North; two granddaughters: Carrie Elizabeth Walters and Amy Lynn North; and wife Jean Brown North.

 

Donald graduated from Clinton Community High School in 1942 and joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He was the last surviving veteran of the twelve Clinton boys who rode the Interurban to Peoria to enlist in the services. As a tank commander with the 5th Marine Division, he was wounded during the invasion of Iwo Jima and was awarded the Purple Heart.

 

Donald was employed as an industrial engineer at Borg-Warner Corp. in Decatur, IL retiring in 1989. He was a lifetime member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Clinton, IL. He was a former avid golfer. 

 

The family would like to thank Hawthorne Inn, Clinton, IL and the staff of the progressive unit at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center for providing excellent care during this difficult time. 

 

Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Clinton, IL. Services will follow at 11 AM Saturday at the church with Rev. Michael Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Military Honors. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

LarVerle was born September 2, 1930 in James, TX the son of Emmett and Thelma (Page) Carrington. He married Wendy Takemori December 28, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV.

 

Survivors include his wife, Wendy Carrington, Maroa, IL; children: Sherri (George) McDowell, Kansas City, MO; Terry (Sherry) Carrington, Granbury, TX; Cary (Karen) Carrington, Burleson, TX; and Edwin (Kendal) Carrington, Plymouth, IN; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.

 

LaVerle was veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. He worked in the Deaf Ministries all of his life and as a Pastor for the United Methodist Church for several years. He held an honorary Doctorate and was an interpreter for the deaf. He enjoyed fishing for catfish.

Norma was born November 1, 1934 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Arthur and Elethelene (Moore) Patterson. She married Thomas W. “Shorty” Sturgeon July 14, 1951 in Clinton, IL. He passed away November 20, 2014.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Becky J. Grant, Beason, IL; grandson, Donnie W. Sturgeon, Beason, IL; great grandchildren: Zach Cooley, Decatur, IL, Danielle Sturgeon, Clinton, IL, Billy Sturgeon, Decatur, IL, Ashley Biggs, Clinton, IL and Tyler Biggs, Farmerville, IL; great-great grandchild: Noah Masters, Taylorville, IL.

 

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Loren and Arthur “Butch” Patterson, granddaughter: Donna Jean Biggs, and great granddaughter: Britney Biggs.

 

Norma loved reading, old western movies, going square dancing, skating with her husband, camping and horseback riding. She was member of the DeWitt County Riding Club and was part of the Silver Dollar Rodeo. She was a former corrections office in Decatur, IL.
