Gordon I. Massey of Clinton

Gordon I. Massey, 72, of Clinton died 4:17 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 30, 2013) in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Gordon was born Jan. 5, 1941, in DeWitt County, the son of Arthur Claytus and Evelyn Dorine Garren Massey. He was a member of First Christian Church, Clinton, and attended Kenney Christian Church. He worked for Revere Copper & Brass, Clinton, retiring after 32 years of service. He also did farming. Gordon enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and bicycling. He clocked 1,600 miles on one bicycle trip, of which he was very proud. He married Barbara J. Shelley on Nov. 24, 1963, in Decatur.

Surviving are his wife; children, Kathy (Tony) Sellberg of Stanford; Arthur Thomas (P.J.) Massey of Clinton; grandchildren, Alyson, Megan, Timothy, Miranda and Matthew; four stepgrandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donna Jeanne Cozad Edward of Weldon

Donna Jeanne Cozad Edwards passed away November 30, 2013, at home with her family in Champaign, IL formerly of Weldon, IL.

Gary Gene Brown of Maroa

Gary Gene Brown was born in Maroa, IL on December 16, 1959. He attended MaroaElementary School and MaroaHigh School where he played center for the Maora-Forsyth Trojans basketball team and led the team to many victories as their top scorer as well as being named most valuable player. Gary married Jackie Douglas in 1980 and they had one son, Dane Andrew. Dane moved with his mother to Springfield, MO a few years later while Gary stayed and worked in sales in the Decatur, IL area until 1995, when he moved to Springfield, MO to be closer to Dane. While living in Springfield, MO, Gary continued to work in sales. In 1996 he met Marquita Walker and they were married on September 10, 2004. Marquita and Gary moved to ColumbiaMO where they lived for five years; they then moved to Avon, Indiana where they currently live. Gary became seriously ill in May, 2013 and passed away on November 29, 2013. He lived 53 years, 11 months, and 17 days.

Gary is survived by his wife, Marquita Walker, his son Dane Brown, his parents, Bill and Sue Brown, a brother Alan Brown and his wife Valarie and their two sons, Wyatt and Garrett, a brother, Bryant Brown and his daughter Sherrie, four step-children, Craig Jones, Dana Walker, Matthew Walker, and Jeremy Walker, three granddaughters, Veronica and Gabby Brown and Abigale Ross, and two grandsons, Jason and Adam Walker, extended family, and many friends.

Gary was an exceptional man who loved his family and friends. No words can adequately express our grief at this early and unexpected loss. The lives that Gary touched have been enriched by his presence. Gary will be deeply missed.

A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Dawson & Wikoff North Funeral Home, 4020 N. Water Street, Decatur. Robert J. Kirby, 64, Farmer City, passed away at 12:11 p.m. Monday (Nov. 25, 2013) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Todd Erin Massey, 43, Clinton, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 20, 2013) at his residence.

Terry L. Lane of Clinton

Terry L. Lane, 61, of Clinton died at 7:53 a.m. Friday (Nov. 15, 2013) at Dr. John Warner Hospital, Clinton.

His service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. J. Kent Hickerson will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

Memorials may be made to the Terry L. Lane Memorial Fund.

Terry was born May 4, 1952, in Clinton, to James Ray Lane and Florence Ross Lane. He married Tina M. Miller on Dec. 16, 1983, in Clinton. She survives in Clinton.

Other survivors include his mother, Florence Lane, Clinton; sons, Jason E. Lane, Minier, and Travis Miller, Hudson; daughter, Tonya Birch, Clinton; four grandchildren, including Kaden and Madison Lane; and brother, Kevin Lane, Michigan.

He was preceded by his father, one sister and one brother.

Terry was a 37-year member of Carpenter’s Union Local 63. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and loved gardening. He was also a member of the DeWitt County Sportsmen’s Club, Eagle’s Lodge, NRA and Harley Owners Group. He loved his grandchildren very much.

Lee E. Tom Hayes of Heyworth

Lee E. “Tom” Hayes, 78, of Heyworth passed away at 11:30 a.m. Friday (Nov. 15, 2013) at Manor Court of Clinton.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth. The Rev. Richard Gray will officiate. Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, McLean. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mr. Hayes was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Heyworth, to William and Delphia Harper Hayes. He married Mary E. Underwood on Nov. 25, 1955, in Clinton. She survives in Heyworth.

Also surviving are daughter, Mary Lee Hayes, Bloomington; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and four brothers, Robert (Delaine) Hayes and Bill (Tita) Hayes, both of Kentucky, and Ronald (Judy) Hayes and Richard (Jeannie) Hayes, both of Downs.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kenneth Wayne Hayes; one brother, Jimmy Dean Hayes; and one sister, Margaret Boyd.

He was a plumber and pipefitter for 42 years and worked out of Local 99, Bloomington.

Claretta Ginger Rasor of Clinton

Claretta “Ginger” Rasor, 85, Clinton, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 14, 2013) at her family residence.

A private graveside service will be for Ginger and her husband, Jay Rasor. Greg Taylor and Michael An will officiate. Interment will be at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, with military honors for Jay. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with cremation rites for Ginger.

Tonya Rose Abbott of Monticello

Tonya Rose Abbott, 69, of Monticello, passed away at 9:15 p.m., November 12, 2013 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, surrounded by her family.

Tonya was born on September 21, 1944 in Effingham, the daughter of Paul and Ruby (Walker) Ring. She married Thomas Avery Abbott on June 16, 1962 in Farmer City, IL. He passed away March 8, 1997.

Survivors include her children; Tammy (Eric) Mori, Troy (Monica) Abbott, and Tina (Mark) Brandon all of Monticello, 8 grandchildren; Brittany Oakley, Brennan Oakley, Peyton Brandon, Kirbi Eckerty, Braxton Abbott, Austin Eckerty, Makayla Abbott, Cole Pratt, and a sister; Leta Roberson of Hamilton, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Tonya helped her husband farm and worked in publishing. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Monticello. Tonya enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Dempsay officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.

Imogene Reeves of Clinton

Imogene W. Reeves, 91, of Clinton died 8:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 11, 2013) in Manor Court, Clinton.

Imogene was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Clinton, the daughter of Earl and Grace Bennett Wantland. She volunteered with the Blood Bank for 25 years. She married Gene Troxel on Aug. 24, 1945. He passed away Jan. 12, 1953. She later married Donald D. Reeves on April 1, 1959, in Clinton. He passed away July 4, 2004.

Surviving are her children, Todd Reeves and Penny (Greg) Troxel-Lichtenwalter, all of Clinton; sister, Faye Henderson of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Clint (Jena) Lichtenwalter, Soo Jin Lichtenwalter, Clay Reeves and Colten Reeves; great-grandchildren, Elijah Lichtenwalter and Lucas Lichtenwalter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and one sister.

Nancy E. Remmers of Weldon

Nancy E. Remmers, 69, of Weldon, passed away at 8:08 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 10, 2013) at her family residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trigg & Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand. The Rev. Phil Hansen will officiate. Interment will be at DeLand Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

She was born Jan. 30, 1944, in Bloomington, the daughter of James and Alice Summers Bland. She married John H. Remmers on Dec. 6, 1974, in Wapella.

Surviving are her husband, John H. Remmers, Weldon; children, Robert G. Remmers, Weldon; Candace (James) Hood, Tolono; and Dee Jay (Angie) Remmers, Farmer City; eight grandchildren, Alexis Remmers; Lucas and Aaron Hood; and Hunter, Makayla, Corey, Blake and Kristin Remmers; and siblings, James (Trish) Bland, Williamston, S.C., and Patty (Dean) Sunderland, Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather.

She was an affiliate with the DeLand Christian Church. Nancy loved to travel and was a member of various clubs including the Illinois Homemakers Extension.

Mary Rebekah Wood-Killing of Clinton

Mary Rebekah Wood-Killing, 101 of Clinton, IL passed away 4:50 A.M. November 9, 2013 at her family residence in Clinton, IL.

Mary was born April 15, 1912 in Moorefield, WV the daughter of George and Sadie (Reel) Lockard. She married Stanley Wood in 1931 having 4 children. Stanley passed in 1953. Later she married Mr. Killing who has also passed.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Beulah Chandler, Clinton, IL and Louise Basset, MO; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Eileen; 2 great grandsons; 1 brother and 1 sister.

Mary’s family moved to Piatt county in 1916. Mary lived in Atwood for 30 years and later moving to Clinton with her daughter for the last 6 years. She served in the church, playing the piano. She worked in libraries and was a cashier. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, most of all she loved family gatherings. She will be greatly missed.

Charles W. Williams of Maroa

Charles W. Hamilton, 87, of Maroa passed away at 12:20 p.m. Friday (Nov. 8, 2013) at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth.

A service to celebrate Charles’ life will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Decatur. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel, Decatur. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.

Mr. Hamilton was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Pontiac, the son of Dr. O.P. and Martha W. Winter Hamilton. He was a 1944 graduate of Forrest High School, Forrest. Charles proudly served in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Germany.

He was the owner of Maroa Lumber since 1955 and former partner with Weldon State Bank. Charles and business partner Ron Edwards developed Weldon Fertilizer Company and were involved in other business ventures. Charles was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and several other committees. He was a charter member of Maroa Lions Club, served on the board for American Red Cross and was a member of Maroa American Legion.

Charles married Margaret Lucille Metz on Sept. 4, 1948. She preceded him in death July 19, 1997.

He is survived by his children, Martha (Stephen) Ward, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Dennis (Chris) Hamilton, Maroa; Carol (David) Woodward, Pontiac; and Jane (Michael) Smith, Decatur; grandchildren, Melissa Ward, Christopher (Kristen) Ward, Gregory (Aubrey) Ward, Jennifer (Kevin) Wood, Andrew (fiance Ursula) Hamilton, Elizabeth Hamilton, Jeremy Woodward and Emily (Steve) Gall; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Thelma (Edwin) Harms, Forrest; brother-in-law, Glenn (Betty) Metz, Normal; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and son, David William Hamilton.

Connie R. Prawl of Clinton

Connie R. Prawl, 64, of Clinton, died at 11:44 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 7, 2013) at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur. Her service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Clinton. J. Cheryl A. Wilber of Monticello

Cheryl A. Wilber, 56, of Monticello, passed away at 7:30 p.m., November 6, 2013 at OSF St. Joseph Hospital, Bloomington.

Cheryl was born on December 29, 1956 in Vincennes, IN, the daughter of William Earl and Ruth (Stangle) Minderman. She married Richard Wilber on August 26, 1978 in Vincennes, IN.

Survivors include her husband; Richard Wilber of Monticello, son; Eric Wilber of Monticello, and sister; Donna Cox of Novato, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters (Brenda Ruppel and Pam Wolfe).

Cheryl worked as a Physical Therapy Assistant. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church of Monticello. Cheryl was an outdoor enthusiast along with being a devoted wife and mother.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 11, 2013 at the St. Philomena Catholic Church of Monticello with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Monday, November 11, 2013 at the church. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Philomena Catholic Church of Monticello or the Piatt County Animal Shelter.

Anna M. French of Lincoln

Anna M. French, 98, of Decatur, formerly of Lincoln, Illinois died at 2:00 a.m. November 5, 2013 at Heartland Health Care Center, Decatur, IL.

Anna was born on October 16, 1915 in Springfield, IL the daughter of William and Anna Nistahl Stach. She married Cletus O. French September 21, 1940 in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death January 21, 1974.

Anna is survived by two daughters: Betty Deverman of Bloomington; Bonnie (Mike) Tish of Decatur; one step daughter: Gayle Lessen of Lincoln; one sister: Freida Maloney of Springfield; six grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son: William; daughter: Connie Fulscher; three brothers, and two sisters.

Anna was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lincoln and was a retired lunchroom coordinator for District 27 schools.

Services for Anna will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln with Rev. Dan Stalker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Heartland Health Care Center for the Activity Center.

Richard E. Lichty of Heyworth

Richard E. Lichty, 61, Heyworth, passed away at 7:31 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 3, 2013) at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth. The Rev. Vernon Oakley will officiate. Burial will be in Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lichty was born Sept. 24, 1952, in Bloomington, son of Robert E. and Barbara Jean Bebout Lichty. He married Sue A. Arthington on Aug. 7, 1976, in Heyworth. She survives in Heyworth.

Also surviving are his mother, Barbara Jean Lichty, Normal; son, Reid E. Lichty, San Jose; and sister, Deborah J. (Douglas) Stueber, Lac du Flambeau, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Richard was a member of Heyworth Christian Church, Heyworth; Mohamed Shrine Temple, Peoria; and a past member of Wade Barney Lodge 512 AF&AM. He drove a Tin Lizzy in parades and was a former volunteer fireman for the Randolph Township Fire Department.

Sharon Joy Shaw of Clinton

Sharon Joy Shaw, 81, of Clinton died 10:45 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 2, 2013) in Manor Court.

Sharon was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Weldon, the daughter of Charles F. Carr and Edith O’Daffer. She was a member of Clinton First Christian Church. She enjoyed decorating and baking but especially spending time with her family. She married Cecil Welby Shaw on March 18, 1950, in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death Feb. 8, 2013.

Surviving are her daughter, Shari (Larry) Haley of Mackinaw; grandchildren, Shari (Gage) Irvin, Nicholas Brinkley and Courtney Snyder, all of Clinton; Craig Snyder of Orlando, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Tyler Brinkley of Simpson; Cameron Snyder of Tampa, Fla.; son-in-law, Danny Brinkley of Clinton; siblings, Bob Carr of Monticello; Annie (Lawrence) Hall of Huntley; Dorothy (Bob) Sprague of Maroa; Kaye Carr and Carolyn (Mike) Perkins, all of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jackie Brinkley; sisters, Jean, Audrey, Helen, Doris; brothers, Dale, Don. Jack, Pete, Bill and Jim. 

Robert L. Kline of Leroy

Robert L. Kline, 93, of Bloomington, formerly of LeRoy, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Friday (Nov. 1, 2013) at Martin Health Center, Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy. Bishop Aaron Sorenson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LeRoy Emergency Ambulance Service or LeRoy Sportsman’s Club building fund.

 

Alvie E. Kemp of Heyworth

Alvie E. “Ed” Kemp Jr., 65, of Heyworth died Friday (Nov. 1, 2013) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Richard Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the memorial home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heyworth Summer Little League Program.

Ed was born July 1, 1948, in New Albany, Ind., a son of Alvie Edward and Idella Sims Kemp. He married Carolyn Crow on June 10, 1968, in St. Louis. Carolyn died April 7, 2006.

Survivors include three sons, Kevin E. Kemp, Clinton; Steven J. (Marybeth) Kemp, Clearwater, Fla.; and Ryan D. Kemp (fiance, Brittany Delaney), Heyworth; five grandchildren, Devin, Kyle, Claire and Alex Kemp; and Brayden Brucker; and a sister, Mary Meredith, Galesburg.

His parents; three brothers, Kenny and Bill Kemp, and Norman Wetzel; and three sisters, Margaret Kemp, Barbara Bufkin and Joyce Ledbetter, preceded him in death.

Ed was a member of the United Methodist Church, McLean. He also was a Harley Hog, a member of A.B.A.T.E., and the Tuesday Night Beer Club.

He retired from Unit District 4 in Heyworth, where he had worked in maintenance for many years.

He was an avid Harley rider and a huge fan of Heyworth High School sports. He dearly loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
