Jesse S. Hammer of Farmer City

FARMER CITY — Jesse S. Hammer, 90, Farmer City, passed away at 1:07 a.m. Thursday (July 28, 2011) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

A celebration of life will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Farmer City. The Rev. C. Don Ferrill will officiate. In the spirit of the celebration, please wear casual summer attire. The family will receive friends after the service. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hammer was born May 31, 1921, in Decatur, son of Jesse and Margaret Thommassen Hammer. He married Donna Hammitt on June 4, 1944, in Waynesville. She passed away May 26, 1997.

Survivors include his daughter, Valli C. Hammer, Champaign; three grandsons, John R. (Leigh) Runner III, Zackary Jesse (Ken-Yu) Runner and Devin B. Peithmann; four great-grandchildren, Sean, Trey, Cody and Logan Runner; and a special soul friend, Mary Lou Beggs, Farmer City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elizabeth Gardner.

Jesse attended Onarga Military School for high school and was a member of ROTC at the University of Illinois. He graduated with a degree in accounting and was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity.  Mr. Hammer was an Army veteran of World War II  and was awarded the Bronze Star.

He was a choir member of the United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge 710, Farmer City Kiwanis, Peace Meals and served as an alderman. Jesse was a charter member of Fred O’Malley Post 6190 VFW, and member of Joe Williams Post 55 American Legion. He loved music, singing and enjoyed playing the organ, trumpet and harmonica.

Jesse owned the family grocery business that was 100 years old this year.

Lonny Snow of Wapella

WAPELLA — Lonny Snow, 62, Wapella, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday (July 22, 2011) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, following a motorcycle accident.

His memorial service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Church, Wapella, with the Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington. Interment will be private.

Memorials may be made to Heyworth school district or Heyworth Fire and Ambulance Department.

Lonny was born Oct. 8, 1948, in Bloomington, the son of Les and Margaret Hefner Snow Jr. He married Sandy Gaines on Feb. 17, 1968, at St. Mary’s Church, Bloomington. She survives.

He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Hebel, Normal; two sons, Scott (Becky) Snow, Heyworth, and Brett (Angela) Snow, Chicago; six grandchildren, Caden, Saegan, Aidan, Levyn, Ian and Laney; a sister, Kandra Brogotti, California; a brother, Ty Denney, Bloomington; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tiger Snow.

Lonny graduated from Bloomington High School in 1966 and served in the National Guard. He owned both Pit Row Sports Bar and Grill in Heyworth and SCI General Contractor. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Wapella.

Lonny was a collector of old cars and an avid racing fan. He loved entertaining, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. He strived to give to those in need.

Michael Myslinski of Atlanta

ATLANTA — Michael Myslinski, 58, Atlanta, formerly of Mount Prospect, was born July 4, 1952; at rest July 3, 2011, in Atlanta.

Mike is survived by his wife, April; his daughter, Amy (Marco) Botello; grandchildren, Michael and Kylie; stepdaughters, Kimberly and Amanda; sister, Morine; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fabian and Maxine Myslinski.

In addition to husband, father and brother, Mike will be remembered as a bowling coach, mentor, avid golfer, dedicated employee to the Walgreens Co. and extraordinary friend.

Mike was inducted into the Illinois Bowling Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Chicagoland Bowling Hall of Fame in 2009.
