Pansy Ida Olive Carter, 81, of DeWitt, IL passed away 6:55 P.M. July 23, 2019 at Farmer City Rehab, Farmer City, Il.

Graveside services will be 10 A.M. Monday July 29, 2019 at the DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, Il. with Rev. Jeff DeLaughter officiating. There will be no visitation. Calvert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pansy was born April 29, 1938 in Memphis, Missouri the daughter of Willis and Thursday (Rockhold) Clark. She married Lloyd E. Carter July 9, 1955 in Clinton, Il. He passed away November 9, 2006.

Survivors include her children, Cheryl (John) Bolby, Bloomington, Il.; Dennis Carter, Weldon, Il.; 3 Grandchildren; 1 Sister; Brother-in-law, Delbert Jones, DeWitt, Il.

Pansy was preceded in death by her Parents, 2 Daughters, Phyllis Jeannine and Karen Colleen.

Pansy had worked at the Clothes Closet in Farmer City, Il. She collected Indian Dolls, Enjoyed gardening and antique shopping.

 Carol I. Schneider, 78, of Clinton, IL passed away July 22, 2019, at her residence in Clinton.

Born on March 24, 1941, in Gary, IN, Carol is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, John “Jack” Schneider of Clinton, IL; beloved children, Patricia Nelson of Stoughton, WI, and James (Rachel) of Naperville, IL. Loving Grandmother to Alexa, Kylie, Andy and Jack, and loving sister to Paul (Sheryl) Ihle, of Crown Point, IN.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Dorothy (Monahan) Ihle.  Private internment at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Monday, July 29, 2019 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.

She was an avid reader and gardener – especially her favorite flower, irises. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling with Jack. Her favorite trip was to Capri, Italy. She also enjoyed playing bridge even though she never got a good hand.

Carol was a graduate of Beloit College in Beloit, WI. Although Carol worked only briefly as a teacher, and in other positions, her primary life’s work until she passed, was the training and civilizing of her husband, a job at which her husband claims she was only minimally successful. Carol also delivered meals for the Peace Meal program for 10 years.

 Donald G. Riddle 84 of Normal, IL passed away 4:28 PM July 12, 2019 at his family residence, Normal, IL.

Don was born February 13, 1935 in Wapella, IL the son of Wilbur Scott and Goldie (Malcom) Riddle. He married Coryla L. Morris August 21, 1955 in Wapella, IL. She passed away November 20, 2013.

Betty was born July 3, 1927 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Richard and Pearl (Johnson) Thayer. She married Marvin E. Karr June 22, 1948 in Wapella, IL. He passed away March 24, 2017.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary (Bill) Murphy, Wapella, IL, and Kathy (Steve Best) Buggar, Clinton, IL, 11 grandchildren, Jim (Kelly) Murphy; Carron (Mike) Hospelhorn; Kristi (Lance) Tynan; Tara (Dave) McNutt; Kimberly (Jeremy) Holmes; Mark Ryan Karr Murphy; Jay Karr; Barbara Karr; Jessica Hall; Michael Karr; Jeffery Karr and their families, 19 great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her Parents, Twin Sons, Kenneth and Karry Karr, brother, Eugene Thayer, 3 sisters, Bonnie Campbell, Glenna Williams, and Martha Poston, 4 half-brothers, Ralph, Dale, Carl, and Bob Thayer.

Betty had worked as a beautician and waitress at Haycraft in Wapella, along with working at Benjamin Franklin, and Eureka Williams in Bloomington. She was a member of the Artist Alley and was active in the Wapella Methodist Church. She enjoyed music and traveling.

Shirley Louise Butterfield Rager, 87, of Latham, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski.

Shirley was born April 7, 1932, in Mount. Auburn, the daughter of Walter Buchanan Butterfield and Freda Francis Elder.

Surviving are her two sons, Bruce Rager and Carl Rager, both of Latham; two grandchildren, Frank Rager and Kate Rager, both of Latham; loved one and partner in life Dwight Buckner of Latham; her brother, John Butterfield of Moroa; four nieces, Kari (Rick) Livesay; Sheryl Erskine; Carol and Kathy Lawton; three nephews, Larry (Teresea) Probist; Ron (Kathy) Rigg; Richard (Mary Lou) Rigg; a special nephew, Chad.

Shirley was a member of Latham United Methodist Church, where she served on the board of directors. She was a member of Logan County Home Mackers Extension Club and Macon County Home Extension Club. She served as an Election Judge and Township Auditor for Laenna Township.

She was a past member of Theatre 7 and Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Lady Land Owners Association. Past Secretary at CC Rager Grain Co and part owner. She married Carl Rager on May 20, 1951. He preceded her in death on January 21, 1989.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, John, Dean, and Ralph; her sisters, Virginia and Helen.

A private graveside will be held at a later date in Two Mile Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Latham United Methodist Church or to Latham Fire Department.

John Thomas “Jack” Henry, 91, of Farmer City, passed away at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (July 6, 2019) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with Bud McMasters officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City, with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Jack was born March 9, 1928, at Farmer City, a son of Lewis Earl and Anna Neal Henry. He married Evelyn I. Herring on Oct. 7, 1951, at the First Christian Church, Farmer City.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn I. Henry, Farmer City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister-in-law.

Jack was a retired Illinois State Police assistant chief. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Jack was a member of the First Christian Church, Farmer City; Farmer City Masonic Lodge 710 for many years; and a life member of Joe Williams American Legion Post 55, Farmer City.

Lucia Pauline Estes, 92, of LeRoy, passed away at 8:40 p.m. July 2, 2019, at the Farmer City Rehabilitation & Health Care.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Farmer City, with Father James Henning, OFM, Conv., officiating. Lucia was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Boston, Mass., a daughter of Ferdinando and Erminia Orrei Donato. She married Clifford Eugene “Snorky” Estes Sr. on April 22, 1950, at Fitzwilliam, N.H. He passed away March 27, 2019.

She is survived by her children, Clifford Eugene (Kimberly) Estes Jr., Irmo, S.C.; Janet (Scott) Whitehouse, Farmer City; Robert Estes, Sebastian, Fla.; Vivian (Robert) Van Deventer, Jacksonville, Fla.; Michael Estes, LeRoy; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Ferdinando Donato, Boston, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Norman Estes; parents; four sisters; and one brother.

Catherine “Kate” Sutter-Reise, 94, of Bloomington, formerly of LeRoy, passed away at 2:40 a.m. May 27, 2019, at Martin Health Center, Bloomington.

Catherine was born May 23, 1925, in Bloomington, to Harry Owen and Lenora Goldie Barnes Carnahan. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.

She met Harold Eugene Sutter from Ellsworth, and they were married in 1951. Kate and Harold began livestock and crop farming in the Saybrook area where she also worked at the Gibson City Hospital as an RN and later did private duty nursing. In 1960 they moved to a farm north of LeRoy where they lived until Harold's death in 1992.

She married Cecil Reise in 1995. They shared an interest in travel which she sustained throughout her life. She was at his side until his death in 2008.

In recent years, she lived at Westminster Village in Bloomington where she continued to be a bright spot in the lives of others.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Cindy (TR) Dowell, Havre de Grace, Md.; Pam (Bill) Collman, Bethalto; Bonnie (Steve) Crumbaugh, LeRoy; and Harry (Renata) Sutter, Lake Forest; along with 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Kate demonstrated daily how to gracefully balance acceptance and persistence. Consistent with a history of giving, in her professional life and to her family, her final act was to donate her body for medical study.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday with a celebration of life service beginning at 11 a.m. at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy. Inurnment will be at a later date in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Memorial donations may be made to OSF St. Joseph Foundation for nurses' education, LEAS (LeRoy Emergency Ambulance Service), or a charity of the donor's choice.

William Anthony Perhay, 80, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., passed away Jan. 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

Bill was born April 27, 1938, in LaSalle, the son of Anton and Mary Erwin Perhay.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1959. Bill spent time working at his family’s business, Tony and Sons 66 in East Peoria, Schumacher Chevrolet in Metamora, and eventually opened his own Chevrolet dealership, Bill Perhay Chevrolet (1973-1991), in Farmer City. Upon moving to Florida in 1993, Bill continued his career in car dealerships before going into the home mortgage business in 1997. Bill and his wife, Joan, have enjoyed spending quality time with their daughter and her family since their retirement in 2013.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Joan Hoffman Perhay. Bill is also survived by four sons, Milton (Angie) Perhay, Mahomet; Rodney (Julie) Perhay, Oakwood; Timothy (Sabrina) Walsh, Farmer City; and Craig Walsh, Dewitt; three daughters, Toni Ann (Michael) Steward, Burkesville, Ken.; Melody (Stacey) Perhay, Corpus Christi, Texas; and Summer (Tom) Perhay Kuba, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Kathy) Perhay, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, and brother, Kenneth (Shelly) Perhay.

A celebration of his life will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn County Club, Farmer City.

Tonya M. Baker, 59 of Clinton, IL, after a courageous battle with cancer passed away 8:30 AM July 3, 2019, at her family home in Clinton, IL.

Tonya was born June 11, 1960, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Larry and Nancy (Estes) Willcutt. Her Mother later married Wayne Tipsword and they raised her in Mt. Zion. She married John P. Baker April 11, 1983, in Clinton, IL.

Tonya had a wonderful voice and sang in many working bands in her younger years; Skyway, Slick City Band, HiJinx, Fast Forward to name a few. Later, singing with 4given, a Christian band.

We were blessed with a daughter, and she was Tonya’s pride and joy. They had many adventures shooting pictures and traveling the backroads of Illinois and across the US.

She worked for Macon Resources for the last 18 years and will be missed by her individuals and work family.

Survivors include her husband, John P. Baker, Clinton, IL, daughter, Megan Nicole Baker, Nashville, TN, siblings, Wayne (Lora) Tipsword, Mt. Zion, IL and Winnie Engel, Decatur, IL. Also, surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Duane and Brian Tipsword.

Beverly Arlene (Thomas) Walsh, 75, of Cerro Gordo, IL, passed away on June 30, 2019.

Beverly was born February 12, 1944, the daughter of Ernest and Kathryn (Benson) Thomas. She married John Tom Walsh on February 27, 2008. 

Beverly worked at Jurgen’s Dental Office for 25 years. She was an avid Cardinal fan. Beverly especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kenneth was a truck driver for 35 years. He loved to fish and hunt.

Brian “Sid” Kaufman 60 of Argenta, IL passed away 4:22 PM June 29, 2019 at his family residence, Argenta, IL.

Services will be 11 AM Saturday, July 6, 2019 at The Bridge Fellowship Church, Argenta, IL with Pastor Bob Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Visitation will be 9 – 11 AM Saturday at the church. The family requests everyone come in casual attire.

Brian was born April 22, 1959 in Decatur, IL the son of Kenneth “Buck” and Helen (Hilbrant) Kaufman.

Survivors include his brother, Rodney (Michelle) Kaufman, Oreana, IL, niece, Jennifer Ryder and her children, Austyn and Briggs of Rockford, MI, and nephew, Rob (Jamie) Johnson, Clarkston, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, and other family members. 

Brian worked at Roberts & Downey Chapel Equipment for more than 30 years. He was an avid fan of the Illini, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Vikings, and Milwaukee Bucks. Back in his day, Brian was one of the best slow pitch softball pitchers in the area. He loved being around his friends playing softball.v

Maxine Harris, 93, of Clinton, passed away on Saturday (June 29, 2019) after an extended illness.

Maxine was born on Jan. 27, 1926 in Clinton to Edmund and Carol (Duffner) Obermeyer. She was the widow of Stanley D. Harris, who preceded in her in death only 10 days ago on June 19.

Maxine is survived by her son Brian (Lisa) of Medford Lakes, N.J. and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Lauren and Luke Harris, all of St. Louis, Mo. She also leaves behind her brother, James Obermeyer of Clinton.

Brother Bob Obermeyer and sister Esto Burger preceded her in death.

Maxine entered the United States Cadet Nurses Corps in 1944. She was one of the 100,000 young women who became World War II Cadet Nurses. The Cadet Program was formed by an act of Congress to address understaffed civilian hospitals when older nurses were called to military service.

Maxine graduated as a registered nurse from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Bloomington in 1947. That same year, a night nurse was needed at John Warner Hospital and Maxine agreed to stay for two weeks. Thirty-eight years later, Maxine retired from that same hospital. Maxine was a member of the First Christian Church, a founding member of C.O.R.N. (Clinton Old Retired Nurses) and a member of St. Joseph's Alumni Association.

Joyce L. Spray, 79, of Wapella, passed away at 11:38 a.m. Saturday (June 29, 2019) at her family residence, Wapella.

Private graveside services will be at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella, with Greg Taylor officiating. There will be no visitation. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Joyce was born March 2, 1940, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Glenn and Mary Angelo Probasco. She married Lyle Elmer “Swede” Spray in 1960. He passed away May 22, 2016.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Lisa) Spray, Atlanta; Mary Catherine Spray, Clinton; Penny Lynn (Ronald) Russell, Lucasville, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Judy (Tom) Cagle, Portage, Ind.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.

David K. Leisner, 66, of Weldon, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Saturday (June 29, 2019) at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, surrounded by his family.

A time to celebrate Dave's life will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Scott Marsh officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Dave Leisner Memorial Fund.

David was born April 10, 1953, in Clinton, the son of Ivan Keith “Ike” and R. Elaine Barding Leisner.

Survivors include his children, Cale (Erika) Leisner, Columbia, Mo., and Breanna (Phillip) Lolley, Needville, Texas; two grandchildren, Noah and Elizabeth Leisner; and brother, Michael Leisner, Normal.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dave worked for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 18 years, was a truck driver, and farmed all of his life. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Weldon Fire Department, a member of the Weldon Lion's Club and a member of the Woodlawn Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, the St. Louis Cardinals, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Dave will be remembered for his great sense of humor and lighthearted personality. He was always willing to help friends and family in need. His laughter and smile will be missed by everyone who knew him.
