John M. Zelhart, 89, Warrensburg, IL, passed away at 3:35 PM Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at Manor Court, Clinton, IL. John was born in a farm house in rural Atlanta, Logan County, IL on June 14, 1924, the son of Walter H. and Nellie B. (Carlton) Zelhart. He married Imogene F. Worner on Sept. 3, 1955 in Green Valley, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene F. Zelhart of Warrensburg, IL; sons, John A. (Jill) Zelhart, David E. (Cindie) Zelhart and James D. (Andrea) Zelhart all of Maroa, IL and 6 grandchildren: Corey (Emily) Zelhart of Warrensburg, IL; Ryan Zelhart of Maroa, IL; Matthew Zelhart of New Orleans, LA; Marie K. Zelhart of West Lafayette, IN; Jordan Zelhart and Brandon Zelhart both of Nasville, TN.

John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul.

John was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Maroa United Methodist Church and the Macon County Farm Bureau. He was especially proud to be an Austin Twp resident. John also had served on numerous boards and committees.

Velma was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Argenta, the daughter of James Raymond and Phobie F. Ferris VanFossan. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and flowers. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and babysitting her grandchildren. She married John Minor Edwards in 1939, in Decatur. He passed away Dec. 19, 1979.

Surviving are her daughter, Donna Kaye McNelly of St. Louis, Mo.; son, John R. (Lisa G.) Edwards of Ar-genta; brother, Howard (Connie) VanFossan of Mims, Fla.; sisters, Betty J. (Dean) Buck of Bonita, Calif.; Grace (Norman) Arnett of Palm Springs, Calif.; Alice Elsea of Argenta; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren with one great-great-grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Raymond Edwards; and siblings, Mildred Turner, Mary Driscoll and Buddy VanFossan.

Richard Earl Funk, 93, Lincoln, died at 7:50 a.m. Monday (Oct. 28, 2013) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Dawn Elaine Smith, 51, Heyworth, passed away at 3 a.m. Monday (Oct. 28, 2013) at her residence.

Dawn is the daughter of Sam and Martha McKee of Decatur; wife of Rodney Smith; mother of Megan and Austin; sister of Steve McKee and Sheryl DeBarr; sister-in-law to Sue and Joe; friend and co-worker to so many who will miss her.

In high school, Dawn went to the state finals in tennis, played the violin, played piano and was on the winning bowling team. She also played softball as a pitcher and second baseman. She was very competitive and was good at everything she tried, including golf.

Dawn was also a team player off the field. She started work early as a secretary in Decatur while she went to Richland Community College. Dawn worked at the Clinton Power Plant as an administrative secretary, but quickly moved into IT. She transferred to Decatur where she continued her IT career. She was very proud of her certifications that she voluntarily did to stay on the cutting edge of technology. She later joined the Health Alliance team in Urbana as a HIPAA security officer.

Dawn was actively involved in Eastview Christian Church in Normal, and drew much of her strength from her involvement there. She especially enjoyed volunteering at Cafe 19.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Jason Sniff officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lonnie Paul Smith, 89 of Monticello, IL passed away 1:28 P.M. October 28, 2013 at Manor Court, Clinton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister.

Lonnie was a member of the DeLand United Methodist Church and the Monticello Masonic Lodge AF & AM. He was a farmer his entire life and enjoyed roller skating, water skiing, fishing and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Jean Elaine Huston, 93, of Monticello, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday (October 27, 2013) at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Monticello Township Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Stump officiating. Mrs. Huston She was born May 21, 1920, at Springfield, to William Allan and Iona Clare Foster Brittin. She first married John Raymond Heitz, who preceded her in death on March 21, 1973. She later married William Henry Huston, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1988. Survivors include a nephew Allan (Valerie) Brittin of Carpentersville, great-nieces Sarah (Cameron Brunner) Brittin and Bailey (Anthony) Budka, great-nephew John Hardaker and numerous cousins. Mrs. Huston was also a “surrogate aunt” to the children of her best friend Marian Young, all of whom knew her as Aunt Jean. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William Brittin, and a niece Barbara Hardaker. Mrs. Huston was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, AARP, Kirby Hospital Auxiliary and the Piatt County Museum. She was a member of the Monticello High School class of 1938 and worked at the National Bank of Monticello for 35 years, retiring in 1983, and enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing and working jigsaw puzzles. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Piatt County Animal Shelter, Cravens Spay/Neuter Fund, Piatt County Nursing Home or an organization of the donor’s choice.

Kristine “Kris” Elaine Sulzberger, 48, of Heyworth passed away Sunday (Oct. 27, 2013) at her residence.

Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Union Church, 2101 E. Washington St., Bloomington. The Rev. Andrew Gifford will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Kris was born July 13, 1965, in Decatur, the daughter of Paul R. Meredith and C. Elaine Bennett Meredith. She married David Sulzberger on May 23, 2009, in Heyworth. He survives.

Also surviving are her parents, father, Paul R. (Sandra) Meredith Sr., Ormond Beach, Fla., and her adoptive mother, M. Bernice Meredith, Bettendorf, Iowa; two sisters, Tara (David) Inghram, Urbandale, Iowa, and Sharyl (Kevin Stuart) Stein, Bettendorf, Iowa; one stepsister, Erika (Michael) Piper, Sullivan; three brothers, Jeffrey Meredith, Eldridge, Iowa; Stephen Meredith, Key West, Fla.; and Paul Meredith Jr., Eldridge, Iowa; and one stepbrother, Neil Elder, Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and mother.

Kris graduated from University of Illinois, Springfield, with a master’s in English. She taught English at Richland Community College, Decatur, for 11 years.

She was an accomplished flute player. She sang in the Decatur Chorale. She attended St. Luke Union Church, Bloomington. She was a breast cancer survivor for 18 years. She enjoyed her cats Dakota, Davita, Yogi and Kit.

Holley A. Randolph, 96, of Atlanta passed away at 7:45 p.m. Friday (Oct. 25, 2013) at Heartland Health Care Center, Normal.

Holley Adair was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Waynesville, the daughter of Andrew V. and Susan E. Holley Adair. She married Richard Roy Randolph on Feb. 27, 1938, in Waynesville. He preceded her in death April 20, 1995.

She is survived by her children, Laura S. (Charles) Baue, Bloomington; Ruth (Glenn) Gordon, Atlanta; and Sarah (Marty) Shipley, Bloomington; her grandchildren, Steven Gordon, David G. Gordon, Dianna Gordon Laney, Suzanne Gordon Hines, John Cisco, James Cisco and Jennifer Cheek; and nine great-grandchildren. Other survivors include special sisters-in-law, Nellie Randolph Leimbach, Mount Pulaski, and Leona Adair, Florida; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, David L. Randolph; and two brothers, Robert G. Adair and James R. Adair.

Holley graduated from Waynesville High School and attended Illinois State Normal University. She worked with her husband for many years in the Randolph Insurance Agency, Atlanta.

Holley was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church, Atlanta United Methodist Women and the Atlanta Women’s Club. She was known as an excellent cook, and enjoyed painting, music, animals and flowers. A sweet and gentle person, Holley was dedicated to her family and always placed others first. She will be missed dearly by those whose lives she touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Moye; brother-in-law, Earl Robb; and father- and mother-in-law, Clyde and Clare Robb.

Carl was a U.S. Army veteran, retired truck driver and farmer. He was a member of Teamsters Local 279, American Legion Post 1133 and VFW Post 4168. He enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing, country music and his Boston terrier dogs.

Mrs. Maden was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Decatur, the daughter of Jesse and Grace Lanier Fitzwater. She married Gaylord T. “Gay” Maden on July 13, 1949, in DeLand. He passed away May 20, 2011.

Dolores grew up in Lodge and graduated from DeLand High School as the valedictorian of her class. She then attended Illinois State University, formerly Illinois State Normal University, majoring in history.

Survivors include her son, Jeffery T. (Trudy) Maden, Lodge; daughter, Jennifer (Kenny) Eades, Champaign; granddaughter, Danielle Maden, Urbana; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Combined, Dolores and Gaylord farmed for more than 63 years, along with her being a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of the DeLand Lincoln Unit Auxiliary Post 102; American Legion Auxiliary for 60 years; Monticello VFW Auxiliary 5346; Champaign VFW Auxiliary 5550; and a drainage district member of DeLand and Lodge.

She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, gardening, flowers and reading, and she was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Also, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Dolores was a very caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Hal B. Craig, 88, of Belleville, Ill., born April 15, 1924 in Argenta, Ill., passed away October 19, 2013 at his residence.

Hal was a WW II veteran serving in the United States Army. He was employed by Illinois Power for 30 years and retired in 1984. He played basketball at University of Illinois. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Fighting Illini, Chicago Bears, and StLouis Cardinals, and cherished attending family reunions and activities with grandchildren.

He was a preceded in death by parents Harry and Lena, Querry, Craig, brothers, Harold, Don, Clayton, Max, Gil, and a sister, Lois (Smith).

Lucille Rosetta (nee House) Belcher, 94, of Monticello, died on October 18, 2013 at Piatt County Nursing Home with her family by her side. Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at Mackey-Wright funeral home, Monticello, with visitation from 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield, IL.

Mrs. Belcher was born at home near Sadorus, IL on January 19, 1919, to parents Richard A. and Bertha B. (Warren) House. Two brothers, Ray W. and Roy A., predeceased her. She married Lowell Francis Belcher on March 19, 1942 in Houston, TX. He passed away in 1984.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lu (Darwin) Bretsch of Belleville, IL and JoAnne Ramirez of Monticello. She also leaves 5 beloved grandchildren: Ryan (Jennifer) Bretsch of Bellvue, WA, Melinda (Salvador) Bernal of Belleville, Kathleen Redden of Belleville, Joanna Bretsch of Belleville, and Ian Ramirez of San Francisco; her pride and joy, 7 great grandchildren: Cooper Bretsch, Jennifer Bernal, Lucas Bernal, Isaiah Bernal, Alexis Bernal, Julia Redden, and Emily Redden; and nieces and nephews: Connie (Ken) Stone, Alan (Donna) House, and Kathleen (Ron) Robbins.

Mrs. Belcher grew up on the family farm near Mansfield, IL. She attended Illinois State Normal University, Normal, IL and graduated from the U of I with a Master’s Degree in Library Science. She was a librarian at DeLand-Weldon High School for 18 years and also served as church librarian for the Monticello United Methodist Church, to which she belonged for 57 years.

During her life, she lived and worked in four different Piatt County towns, including Cerro Gordo. She was very involved in the community as a longtime member of the Women’s Club of Monticello, Piatt County Republican Women, Home and Community Education and 4-H club leader. With a great appreciation for her homeland and heritage, combined with a love of history, she was a staunch supporter of the Piatt County Museum and Piatt County Historical and Genealogical Society, the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum Foundation, and was a 52-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Lucille was always grateful that her parents supported her desire to pursue an education as much as they did for her brothers. She had a lifelong love of books and learning. She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma educational sorority and the U of I Foundation, and was pleased with the opportunity to be a founding member of the Monticello Area Education Foundation.

During retirement she enjoyed traveling, making new friends through the Order of the Eastern Star and Champaign-Urbana Court of the Order of the Amaranth, and most of all getting to know her grandchildren and great grandchildren and strengthening family ties. She had a strong influence in their lives by encouraging academic pursuits and sharing history through family stories. Her presence and guidance will be greatly missed.

Donald A. St. Pierre, 42, of Clinton died at 1:50 p.m. Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) at his family residence.

Donald was born Oct. 1, 1971, in Danville, the son of Donald St. Pierre and Cheryl Groff.

Donald earned an associate’s degree in applied sciences from Itawamba Community College, Tupelo, Miss. He enjoyed music festivals and fishing.

Marion L. Schmitz, 84,  Farmer City, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) at Farmer City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Marion was born Oct. 20, 1928, in DeLand, a daughter of Dean and Pauline Dressback Oakley. She married Morris Dean Schmitz on Oct. 21, 1946, in Farmer City. He passed away Oct. 16, 1986.

She is survived by two sons, Terry D. (Julie) Schmitz, Buford, Ga., and Jerry L. Schmitz, Farmer City; daughter, Genreva “Skip” Payne, Hillsdale, Mich.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Richard “Dick” (Carolyn) Oakley, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and sister, Lucretia “Susie” Walden, Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a son-in-law.

Marion had worked in the housing department at the University of Illinois for 25 years. She was a member of First Christian Church, Farmer City; a life member of the Farmer City VFW Post 6190 Women’s Auxiliary; and a member of the Order of Moose Lodge, Bloomington.

Judith L. Thomas, 74, of Clinton died 11:42 a.m. Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) in Manor Court.

Judith was born Aug. 26, 1939, in DeWitt County, the daughter of Willard Daughtery and Georgia Howerton. She was raised by Georgia and Richard Woolridge. She was affiliated with First Baptist Church, Clinton. She attended Farmer City schools and graduated from Farmer City High School. She retired from Revere Copper & Brass after 31 years of service and was an in-home caregiver. She married Robert D. Thomas on March 15, 1958 in Clinton. He passed away May 13, 2003.

Surviving are her sons, Robert D. Thomas Jr. and Richard A. Thomas, both of Clinton; granddaughters, Heather Thomas and Holly Thomas, both of Clinton; great-grandchildren, Riley, Cody, Annalea, Landen, Leo, Joel and Avalynn; sisters, Janice Campbell of DeLand; Betty (Essel) Burton of Clinton; brothers, William (Beverly) Daughtery of Lincoln, Neb.; Ray (Marilyn) Woolridge of LeRoy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant brother and sister; sister, Rosemary Johnson; and brothers, Paul Woolridge, Bob Woolridge, Bill Woodridge, David Woolridge and Jim Woolridge.

During the morning hours of Tuesday, October 15, 2013, Dorothy Patricia Sims, 77, left her earthly home to join her family that had left before her.

Dorothy was born in a one room log cabin on a cold day, November 24th 1935 in South Mindoka, Ontario to Wanda Wein and Nickoli Supa. She was joined by her sister Margaret Young Boysman 2 years later.

Dorothy spent many of her childhood days exploring the wilderness of her beloved Canada. She attended a one room school house from grades 1-8, walking 2 miles each way; occasionally on snow shoes when the snow flew.

Dorothy met Robert Eugene Sims while working as a telephone operator assisting his calls to his mother while he was stationed in Maine. Dorothy and Robert married August 22, 1953. They were soon blessed with 3 children, Jo Ann, Michael and Melissa.

They purchased a home in Argenta, IL and spent many happy years there with family and friends.

Dorothy worked as a custodian at the Argenta Post Office and as a secretary for Buckley Bros. She enjoyed traveling, music, reading, dancing, knitting and teaching her family all about the wonderment of the universe with her beautiful mind.

Surviving her departure are her children: Jo Ann C. (Sims) Patrick and her husband Ronald D., Michael R. Sims and his wife Kimberly K., and Melissa G. (Sims) Davis; also 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Robert Sims, and her parents.

Lawrence A. Bever, 91, formerly of Libertyville, died Monday (Oct. 14, 2013) in Lincoln.

He was born in 1921 in Fairview, Wis., and had been a resident of Libertyville since 1947, where was a member of St. Joseph parish. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Hicks of 66 years of marriage; and his loving children, John (Jan), Linda (the late James) Haynes, William, Robert (Karen), Mark (Jeanne), James (Peggy Schultz) and Katherine (Michael) Fulton. He was the proud grandfather of 14; great-grandfather of 12; great-great-grandfather of one; and the dearest brother of Francis, Patrick, Joseph and Shirley George and the late Leonard, Edward, Peter, Roman, Beatrice and Loretta Linder; and was the beloved son of the late Peter and Theresia.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Libertyville. Private interment will be at Ascension Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, Libertyville.

On the morning of Thursday, October 10, 2013, Elizabeth Ann Bennett’s spirit quietly and unexpectedly passed from her earthly body during her sleep.

Beth married her soulmate and life partner, Matthew A. Bennett, on August 22, 1981 in Monticello, Illinois. Together they shared a lifetime of enjoyment from traveling to exotic locations, making and attending musical experiences, family occasions, holidays and entertaining friends.

Beth’s appreciation of music from the time she learned to play piano shaped many of the important events of her life. From high school marching band championships to singing in the MethodistChurch choir to supporting up and coming young blues artists, music filled her life with happiness.

Beth was a secretary for Miller, Tracy, Braun and Funk for over 26 years.

As a 10-year survivor of breast cancer, Beth spent much of her time promoting awareness. A few short months ago, her cancer came out of remission and spread quickly. With her boundless determination, she tackled the beast again. Through all of her pain, she continued to smile and uplift others with her infectious laughter and positive attitude. Beth lived each day of her life to its fullest, always looking forward to the next.

Beth was born in Champaign, Illinois on May 28, 1960 to Richard A. “Dick” and Judith A. “Judy” Bruhn Harper. Her parents and older brother, Richard W. “Rick” Harper preceded her in death. She leaves behind her beloved husband, their trusted companion Bud, sister Debbie (Greg) Valentine, and brother Steve (Lori) Harper, father-in-law James Bennett, brothers-in-laws J. Michael (Pam), Marty, and Mark (Tina) Bennett, as well as several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephew.

Matthew will visit with friends and family on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello.

A celebration and honoring of Beth’s life and spirit will be the following morning, Friday, October 18, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the same location with Rev. Greg Courtright officiating.

Gregg A. Winters, 56, of Warrensburg, died at 8:55 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013.

Gregg was born on January 18, 1957, the son of William “Tig” and Marjorie J. (Hoaglin) Winters. He graduated from Warrensburg-Latham High School, and worked for most of his life as a carpenter. He was a member of the Warrensburg Gun Club, the American Pool Association, and Ducks Unlimited.

He is survived by his two sisters: Cindy Ellis, and her husband Stu, of Decatur; Nancy McLean, and her husband Dale, of Chatham; one aunt, Jeanine Edwards; six nieces and nephews; his best friend, Connie Henry; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Craig Winters, and his brother Michael Winters.

Gregg was a great brother, son, and friend. He never did meet a stranger. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the St. Louis Cardinal’s.

Rev. Jack W. Kaley, 87 of Bement, IL., passed away at 7:10 A.M. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bement United Methodist Church, 249 N. Piatt St., Bement, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the Bement United Methodist Church, 249 N. Piatt St., Bement, IL. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 A.M. until time of services on Saturday at the church. The Rev. E. Paul Unger will officiate. Burial with military graveside rites by the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620 of Bement, will be in the Bement Township Cemetery. Jack was born in rural Robinson, IL., on October 3, 1926 to Charles and Revene Reynolds Kaley. He was the eldest of three boys. After attending a one room school through the 8th grade, he graduated from Robinson High School. He was very athletic, played all sports available and was able to set a few records that held for many years. He entered the U.S. Army serving his country for two years. Accepting a scholarship to Drake University in athletics, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Schernekau on January 25, 1948 in Robinson, IL. and then moved to Des Moines, IA., where he graduated with a BA in education. His first teaching position was in Estherville, IA., Junior College, where he also coached football and basketball.

After a couple of years in northern Iowa, they returned to Illinois for a high school coaching opportunity in Vandalia, where daughter Sandra was born. Drake University then offered him a baseball coaching position for three years where he acquired his MA in Education, and a son, Mark entered their household. The next five years were at Eastern Illinois University as baseball coach and assistant football coach. During this time a daughter Luann arrived.

At this important time in Jack’s life the Lord had other plans for him. Because coaching was so enjoyable he struggled with his future direction in life. He entered the ministry in 1961, and began pastoring the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Gibson City, IL. He also entered the Evangelical Theological Seminary for three years in Naperville, pastoring the Gibson City congregation on weekends while acquiring a MA of Divinity. While at Gibson City, Jack was active in organizing a Billy Graham Revival held in the summer for two weeks on the football field. There were many decisions made for Christ and thousands attended the revival. After nine enjoyable years in Gibson City, merging the EUB’s and Methodists into one congregation, the family came to Decatur to pastor Central United Methodist Church.

It was during this time that Jack began his television ministry, supported by a local farmer in Gibson City. CLOSER TO GOD TODAY ran for 14 years on WAND-TV at 6:45 a.m. daily. In 1979 Jack felt led to enter full-time evangelistic work under the banner of CLOSER TO GOD TODAY and held meetings in over 500 churches before retiring in the late 1990’s.

He and Barbara were blessed with three children, Sandra Ann (David) Secrest of Bement, IL., Mark Aaron (Nikki) Kaley of Lincoln, IL., and Luann Marie (Bill) Barnes of Lexington, S.C. They have 5 grandchildren; Meghan (Josh) Sanders of West Columbia, S.C., Nathan (Amy) Kaley of O’Fallon, IL., Brittany (Daniel) Wheeler of Austin, TX., Braghan (Ryan) Mulvaney of Fort Worth, TX and Sheila Barnes of El Paso, TX. They have also been blessed with 7 great-grandchildren; Landon Henson, Ethan Henson, Xander Barnes, Jonah Sanders, Abram Kaley, Quinn Sanders and Elliott Wheeler. Jack also has a brother, Don Kaley in Palm Springs, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Vaughn Kaley.

Jack loved to golf, and he just loved all sports in general. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. The family would like to thank so many of our friends for their prayers, the nursing staff of the Piatt County Nursing Home and the congregation of the Bement United Methodist Church.

Faye Manahan, 101, of Heyworth, danced into Heaven at 2:52 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 6, 2013) at LeRoy Manor.

Faye was born April 11, 1912, to Fred and Martha Myers Sartain in Foosland. She married Estil P. Manahan on Dec. 5, 1936, in Macomb. He preceded her in death June 23, 1989.

Surviving is one daughter, Martha Jane Bell, Bloomington; two grandsons, Richard Bell and Russell (Karen) Bell, both of Heyworth; great-grandchildren, Heath (Sarah) Bell, Heyworth; Austin Bell, Chicago; Brandon (Julie) Bell, Dalton Hogan and Parker John Bell, all of Heyworth; and great-great-grandchildren, Austin McKinney, Ashley McKinney, Tyler Bell and Mason Bell.

Faye was a member of the New Horizon Christian Church, Heyworth, and was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years. Martha reminisces “Oh, how she could tickle the ivories! I would sing a song and she could play it immediately by ear! Ever since I can remember, Mom and Dad were great ballroom dancers and delighted the crowd anywhere they went.”

“She was the most caring, and giving lady. If someone had a cold, she was there with food, etc. Ever since I can remember, she spoke of Jesus several times a day. Manahan Grocery in Arrowsmith, for several years was a very popular place because Daddy said, ‘The customer is always right,’ and they were treated as if they were.”

This was the way Faye lived her life, always caring and giving. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and devoted friend who will be deeply missed. The family would like to express a special thank you to LeRoy Manor for all their love and care for Faye over the past nine years.
