Karen E. Bailey, 71, of Monticello, passed away at 6:50 p.m., January 30, 2014 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.

Karen was born on August 6, 1942 in Monticello the daughter of Paul and Elaine (Furry) Bickel. She married Herschel R. Bailey on August 13, 1960 in Monticello.

Survivors include her husband; Herschel Bailey of Monticello, sons; Scott (Christina) Bailey of Monticello and Dan (Dawn) Bailey of Greenwood, IN, grandchildren; Michael (Tara), Patrick, Nicholas, Andrew, Zach, Samantha, and Ethan, great grandchildren; JD, Jax, and Leena, brother; Gary (Gail) Bickel of Monticello, and a sister; Shelley (Joe) Hayes of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Karen retired as a receptionist for Dr. William Mundt. Karen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello, the Red Hat Club and the Kirby Medical Center Auxiliary. Karen enjoyed living for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching them play sports.

James Russell Adcock, 76, Clinton, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 26, 2014) at his family home in Clinton.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. Burt McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton. James was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Bloomington, the son of Russell and Mary Hereford Adcock. He married Betty L. Repplinger on June 26, 1965, in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Adcock, Clinton; son, Brian L. (Lori) Adcock, and granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth, Crystal Lake; and sisters, Beverly Barrett, Pensacola, Fla.; Marilyn (Robert) Snow, Bradenton, Fla.; and Joyce (Harold) Ashby, Sarasota, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim graduated from Clinton Community High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from Eastern Illinois University and a master of science degree in education from Western Illinois University. He was an English teacher at Clinton Community High School for 33 years, serving as English Department chairperson for many years prior to his retirement in 1994. “Mr. A.” was twice honored as “Teacher of the Year” by the Clinton Education Association, in 1979-80 and 1993-94. More recently, he was employed as a proofreader for the DeWitt County Constitution.

Jim was an avid bowler. He was the first person to roll a sanctioned 300 game in Clinton and coached junior bowlers for 25 years. He was an active member of the Clinton Bowling Association and Decatur Bowling Association. He helped organize the Clinton barbershop chorus and sang in the Clintones barbershop quartet for more than 25 years.

Also, he served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of the Weldon Springs Foundation, Illinois Education Association, National Education Association and Illinois Retired Teachers’ Association.

Jessie “Maxine” DeVan, 94, Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Clinton, retired from Kmart, died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2014).

Steve was born in Fairbury, IL. Powell Jr and wife Julie (Ramsey) Powell; Bruce Powell and wife Donna (Pygott) Powell; Mark Powell and wife Monica (Lewis) Powell; and many nieces and nephews.

Steven was an avid animal lover and helped many strays. He loved the Native American way of life. He shared a special bond with his sister-in-law Monica Powell who had the same birthday.

One of Steven’s most cherished moments was when he gave his heart to Jesus and was baptized on Lake Shelbyville July 4th several years ago.

Steven was preceded in death by his father Edwell Munsell, grandmother Altha Stamm, both grandfathers, and his father-in-law Alfred D. Powell Sr.

Randy Dean Black, 58, of Twin Falls, Idaho, formerly of Clinton, died Wednesday in Twin Falls, Idaho.

He was born July 17, 1955, to LeRoy and Carolyn Black.  He was proceeded in death by his brother Carter D. Black.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Black; children Ryan and Daryn and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Kyla, Avery, Ethan, and Lilly.

The Reynolds Funeral Chapel in Twin Falls, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.

Cathie J. Veselack, 61, of Wapella died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2014) at her home.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Ric Schneider will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bloomington.

She was born Jan. 11, 1953, in Bloomington, daughter of Louis E. Sr. and Lois Veselack. She married Greg A. Fritcher on March 30, 1974.

Surviving are two daughters, Melinda “Mindy” (Allen) Martin, Corinth, Miss., and Shay (Rich) Burke, Wapella; two sons, Greg A. Fritcher Jr., East St. Louis, and Eddie (Kathy) Fritcher, Grantsburg; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Evelyn Veselack, Bloomington, and Jacqueline (Steve) Jacobson, Dewey; one brother, Pete (Pam) Veselack, Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Louis E. Veselack Jr.; and one sister, Sandra Veselack.

Cathie attended Bloomington High School. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She enjoyed traveling to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her world. Cathie was a lifelong music lover and especially fond of Willie Nelson. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a loving and caring person.

James L. Craney, 64 of Bement, IL., passed away at 3:30 P.M., on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 12 Noon, on Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Roux – Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement. A short service will follow the visitation on Monday with memories shared by Pat Tieman, followed by military services by the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620. Burial will be at a later date. Jim was born on May 3, 1949 in Washington, IN. a son of Odis and Wilma Dougherty Craney. He married Linda Schalliol on April 25, 1970 in Washington, IN. and she survives of Bement, IL. Surviving children include; Meredith (Chad) Roach of New Bern, N.C., Neil Craney and Dana Cole of Bloomington, IN., and Reid Craney of Omaha, Neb., as well as 2 grandchildren; Ashlynn Elizabeth Roach and Haedon Easton Roach both of New Bern, N.C., Also surviving is his sister; Linda Thompson of Madison, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Craney served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and was a Bio Engineer from the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, he was a member of the White House Communications, and Lion’s Club of Indiana.

Mrs. Gilmore was born June 9, 1921, in West Township, McLean County, daughter of Carl and Ida Curtis Bennett. She married Clytus Ralph Gilmore on March 31, 1944, in rural Farmer City. He passed away Aug. 20, 2005.

She is survived by three daughters, Marian (Richard) Steege, Pflugerville, Texas; Elaine (Leslie) Franzen, Farmer City; and Carolyn (Rick) Leiding, Danville; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Steve) Roberts, Austin, Texas; Douglas (Angie) Franzen, Farmer City; Diane Franzen, Mahomet; Mark Edsall, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Scott (Blair) Edsall, Nashville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elizabeth Grimes Bartlett, Mesa, Ariz.

Mrs. Gilmore was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clytus Ralph Gilmore; two sisters; and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Gilmore was a member of Weedman United Methodist Church, Bag Ladies Quilting Club at Weedman United Methodist Church, Busy Needles Club and the Sabina Social Club. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts for family and friends.

Louise O. Baldwin, 77, of Lincoln passed away Saturday (Jan. 18, 2014) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Louise was born March 20, 1936, in Decatur, the daughter of Edward and Trela Davis Faust. She was a member of the Master Gardeners. Louise loved flowers and tending to her garden. Her yard was beautifully displayed, especially in the summer. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and made sure to spend time with each of them.

Surviving are her children, Larry R. Burns Jr., Bloomington; Gail Tungate, Lincoln; and Julie Keehma, Chicago; seven grandchildren, David Grant, Rachel Stapleton, Eric Grant, Elizabeth Lemmel, Sara Kiel, Michael Keehma and Alex Keehma; 13 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Carrin, Koltyn, Lena, Kaleb, Reanna, Riley, Grace, Kayla, Emma, Trenton, Koby and Chase; her siblings, Darlene Ernst, Mount Zion; Donna Meserole, Bathe; John J. Faust, Decatur; and Ruth Ann Taylor, Alabama; a special cousin, Delores Vairin, Pasadena, Calif.; and several loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Steven Burns; her brother, Donald Faust; and her significant other of 20 years, Robert Elkins.

Patricia J. Smothers, 78, of rural Farmer City passed away at 6:38 a.m. Friday (Jan. 17, 2014) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Patricia was born May 12, 1935, in Farmer City, a daughter of Harold and Opal Welch Wheeler. She married Warren Smothers on Sept. 15, 1953, in Farmer City.

She is survived by her husband, Warren Smothers, rural Farmer City; two sons, Harold Smothers and Dale Smothers, both at home; and one daughter, Cinda Sieving, Cissna Park. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Erin (Brandon) Sturm and Nathan (Stephanie) Sieving; special grandchildren, Andy Threatt and Alicia Wallace; and great-grandchildren, Paige Sturm, Avery Sturm, Logan Strum and Mason Sturm.  

She is also survived by four sisters, Dolores Buchanan, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; Shirley (Bill) Rittenhouse, Farmer City; Frances (Dick) Reynolds, Farmer City; and Elizabeth (Mike) Cleveland of Ohio.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, the Rev. Fred Sieving.

Patricia was an active member of the Bethel Church of rural Farmer City. She was also very active in Special Olympics with her sons. Patricia served on the Mansfield Library Board and the Piatt County Mental Health Board.

Eleanor H. Pistorius, 90, Decatur, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 16, 2014) in her residence.

Eleanor was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Lincoln, the daughter of Walter V. and Hilda Klemm Horn. She married Kenneth R. Kemmerer in 1946 in Lincoln. He preceded her in death. She later married Neil Pistorius on June 11, 1995, in Boody.

Eleanor was a member of Zion Chapel United Methodist Church, Decatur Quilt Society and Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at Decatur Memorial Hospital and the Red Cross.

Eleanor’s teaching career started in Edinburg. She was a home extensions adviser for three years in Clinton and then a schoolteacher at Warrensburg-Latham High School for 29 years.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Neil, Decatur; son, Scott D. Kemmerer, Tamms; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Jeri Crittenden, Monterey, Calif., and Debra Kemmerer, Springfield; and stepdaughters, Kaye (Albert) Winterbauer, Chesterfield, Mo.; Nancy Pistorius, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Marie (Jim) Kelley, Mount Olive, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; sons, David R. Kemmerer and Allen K. Kemmerer; and sister, Marjorie Dale.

Dwain William Franz, 67, Lincoln, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 16, 2014) at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Dwain was born Feb. 7, 1946, in Lincoln, the son of Henry W. and Gertrude Sparks Franz.

He married Linda Funk on April 27, 1969, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lincoln.

Surviving Dwain are his wife, Linda, Lincoln; his mother, Gertrude Munsch, Lincoln; one daughter, Delyn (Brian) Duggins, Bloomington, and grandchild, Bryson; one son, Tyler Franz, Osage Beach, Mo.; and one sister, Janet (Marvin) Johnson, New Holland.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather.

Dwain was retired from Verizon, formerly GTE. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 263.

Dwain enjoyed spending time at Lake of the Ozarks, being with family and his grandson and cooking. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

The funeral for Dwain will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Greg Busboom officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, with full military rites accorded by American Legion Post 263. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be given in his name to the American Diabetes Association, American Legion Post 263 or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Marilyn Sue Hall, 76, Clinton, died at 5:52 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2014) at Heritage Health, Normal.

Her memorial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Nazarene Church, Clinton. Deacon Michael An, OSF Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Marilyn was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the daughter of Lewis K. Phillips and Ethel Mae Wolfe Phillips. She married Loren R. Hall on June 27, 1971, in Fredericktown, Ohio. He passed away Dec. 30, 2008.

Survivors include special nephew, Stanley R. (Theresa) Hall, Normal, who took care of Marilyn since the death of Loren, and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are special sister-in-law, Verla Hall, Bloomington, and siblings, Thelma Frazee, Howard, Ohio, and Marjorie (Ronald L.) Smith, Utica, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marilyn was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene, Clinton, and she enjoyed reading.

The family expresses a special thank you to Liberty Village and its staff in Clinton, and to the hospice care staff at Heritage Health in Normal for their excellent care of Marilyn.

William H. Clark, 94, Maroa, died at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2014) at Imboden Creek, Decatur.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating. Burial will be at Illini Cemetery, Warrensburg, with military honors. He was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Clinton, son of John F. and Hazel Mears Clark. He married Mildred Fern Rau on March 20, 1946, in Clinton. She passed away March 23, 2000.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Lazell, Platte City, Mo.; two sons, Larry (Carol) Clark, Maroa, and Ron (Jill) Clark, Forsyth; two brothers, Vernon Clark, Chestnut, and John “Junior” Clark, Kenney; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Evelyn Clark.

He was affiliated with Maroa United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. William farmed his entire life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows in Kenney. William enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.    

Justin R. West, 33, Farmer City, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 14, 2014) at his residence.

A celebration of life will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday with a memorial service starting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, all at the Farmer City American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tiffany West Benefit in care of Heartland Bank.

Justin was born Sept. 3, 1980, in Bloomington, son of Donald M. West and Donna J. Spiecker. He married Tiffany N. Hitt on July 31, 2010.

Surviving are his wife, Tiffany N. West, and sons, Cayden West and Colten Badgley, all of Farmer City; father, Donald M. (Terri) West; mother, Donna J. Spiecker Byquist; sister, Angie (James Coleman) West, Bloomington; brothers, Jason (Ashley) West, Farmer City; Jeremy (Jennifer Westbrook) West and Jesse West, both of Clinton; maternal grandfather, Wiley Spiecker; paternal grandmother, Fern Connour; father- and mother-in-law, Terry (Teresa) Hitt, St. Joseph.

He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Justin was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandson and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

Carolyn Joyce Oakley, 74, Casa Grande, Ariz., formerly of Farmer City, died Tuesday (Jan. 14, 2014) in Tempe, Ariz.

She was born Oct. 7, 1939, in Clinton, daughter of Wallace E. and Dorothy V. Baker. They preceded her in death.

Happily celebrating her 56th year of marriage this past year, Carolyn was married to Richard Allen Oakley on Oct. 12, 1957, in Farmer City, where they raised their five children.

She is survived by her husband; children, Marty (Tammi) Oakley, Cindy (Jim) Hanafin, Misty Oakley, Rusty Oakley and Shelley (Brent) Chandler; siblings, Judith (Lawrence) Hedrick, Ben (Theresa) Baker and Richard Baker; grandchildren, Jillian Hurt, Seth Oakley, Jaimee (Mark) Weidert, Jayce Hanafin, Andrew Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Grant Thompson, Hannah Chandler and Alyssa Chandler; and great-grandchildren, Nico Scott, Makinlee Hurt, Oliver Weidert and Lucca Weidert.

Carolyn greatly enjoyed her job as a computer operations supervisor for Growmark Inc. in Bloomington, retiring in 1995, after 25 years of service. After traveling the country in their RV, Carolyn and Richard settled in Casa Grande, Ariz.

Carolyn enjoyed sewing, baking and trying new restaurants. Carolyn’s passion was spoiling her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be no service.

Having lost several family members to cancer, Carolyn was very supportive of the American Cancer Society, where memorial contributions can be sent in her honor.

Marlin Paul Krall, 79, of Cerro Gordo, Il, was called to be with the Lord at 4:08 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Memorial Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, at Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, January 17, at the church. Burial will be Ridge Cemetery, Long Creek Township. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Cerro Gordo, will be assisting the family with the arrangements.

Marlin was born June 28, 1934, in Decatur, the son of Clarence and Pearl (McClure) Krall. He enjoyed 55 wonderful years being married to Shirley M. (Long) Krall where they were united in marriage on September 14, 1958, at the Christian Church in Mt. Morris, IL.

Marlin graduated from Cerro Gordo High School. He spent his life time as a farmer, a Bo-Jac seed dealer for 40 years and Bellatti soybean dealer for 20 years. Marlin very much enjoyed helping his customers. He was a founder of the Cerro Gordo Community Ambulance Service board for 30 years, a member of the Macon County Farm Bureau and a member of the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren for 64 years where he served as a Deacon, usher, and served on various boards. He also served in the Brethren Volunteer Service for 2 years where he drove a semi to pick up relief clothing.

Marlin is survived by his wife Shirley Krall of Cerro Gordo; son Kevin Krall of Cerro Gordo, Il; daughter Beverly (Shawn) Stribling of Ashland, IL; grandson Brandon Stribling and granddaughter Brittany Stribling, both of Ashland, IL; sisters Joan LeVallay of Park Ridge, IL and Dr. Rose (Dr. William) Ditto of Wamego, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents.

Theodore J. Cox Jr., 84, Heyworth, died at 3:05 a.m. Monday at Heartland Health Care Center, Normal.

The family scheduled a memorial service for 11 a.m. Jan. 25 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Bloomington. A celebration and reception will follow the service. Arrangements were handled by Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Ted Cox was born July 2, 1929, in Minneapolis-St. Paul, the only child of Josephine and Theodore J. Cox Sr. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carole – they married on Dec. 13, 1958, in Pittsburgh – as well as sons, Theodore J. Cox III and Michael (Lisa) Cox, and grandchildren, Sadie, Megan and Sean Cox.

Mr. Cox was a U.S. Army veteran and a University of Pennsylvania alumnus and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1956, with a degree in engineering. He was a licensed engineer in four states and designed bridges that remain standing in Wheeling, W.Va., where he worked for American Bridge.

He eventually settled his family in Chicago, where he rose to supervisor of purchasing for Amoco Oil. He and Carole relocated to Denver in the mid-1980s, where both went into real estate. They retired to Heyworth in 1999.

Mr. Cox was a lifelong sports fan, as his father was a football coach who led Tulane to victory in the first Sugar Bowl. He was an avid golfer and worked in later years for The Den in Bloomington. He and Carole took their family on a golfing vacation to Ireland in 1989.

An encyclopedic movie buff and voracious reader, Mr. Cox loved the Heyworth Library.

Mr. Cox’s only real disappointments were that he never shot a hole-in-one or got a chance to shoot his age.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember the homeless, the ill, the unemployed and all those less fortunate.

Esther E. Wond, 95, of Warrensburg passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Esther was born on June 9, 1918 in Virden, IL the daughter of Jerome and Laura (Diplotti) Baruzzini. She retired from St. Mary’s Hospital as a LPN. She also volunteered with the Red Cross for many years. She married Walter Wond on November 23, 1939 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1994.

Surviving are her daughter Eva Simpson and husband Glenn of Warrensburg; granddaughter Madonna Brown and husband Richard of Warrensburg; and great-grandson Lewis Brown of Warrensburg.

She was preceded death by her parents, husband, 2 brother, and 4 sisters.

Funeral Liturgy to celebrate Esther’s life will be 2 PM Saturday, January 18, 2014 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1-2 PM Saturday in the funeral home. Donald J Olson, 97, Farmer City, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday (Jan. 13, 2013) at Manor Court, Clinton.

He was born June 1, 1916, in Weldon, a son of Walter and Bertha Welge Olson. He married Mary Brown on July 31, 1934, at the former St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Weldon. They celebrated their 79th anniversary in 2013.

Don was preceded in death by a son, Gene Olson; his parents, Walter and Bertha; one brother, Vernelle (Pearl) Olson; two sisters, Loraine (Bruce) Swartz and Marie (Kenneth) Edwards; and two grandchildren, Glen and Ginger Olson.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Lawrence “Shorty” (Joanie) Olson, Clinton; daughter-in-law, Mary Olson, Weldon; seven grandchildren, Pam (Joe) Elliott, Wapella; Angie (Sean) Martin, Forsyth; Larry (Maria) Olson, Frisco, Texas; Kurt (Erin) Olson, Bloomington; Tim Olson, Winter Park, Fla.; Gina (Scott) Leischner, Farmer City; and Gala (Claude) Alwood, Weldon; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Don retired from livestock and grain farming in 1980 after 46 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Farmer City where he was an usher for many years. In his younger days, he raced go-karts and helped a friend build and race stock cars. In his early years of farming, he provided hay-baling employment for young men in the Weldon area. Don also enjoyed camaraderie at George H. Dunn’s in Farmer City for more than 20 years. All his life, he was known to share funny stories, good-natured orneriness and laughter with family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City. The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Farmer City, with Father James Henning officiating. Burial will be in Weldon Cemetery.

Beulah Mae Keppler, 79, of Warrensburg, IL passed away on January 11, 2014 at Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur, IL.

Services for Mrs. Keppler will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Bethel Baptist Church, rural Vandalia with Dr. Mike Keppler officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:30a, until time of service Thursday at the church.  Burial will follow in Ritter Cemetery, Vandalia. Beulah was born January 5, 1935 in Vandalia, the daughter of Jackson A. and Iva Mae (Davis) Warner.  She married Kenneth Keppler Jr. on March 26, 1953.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Baptist Church in Decatur, IL.

She is survived by her husband; son Jeff Keppler and wife Sherri; daughter Beverly and husband Dr. Doug Cyrus; brothers Jackie Warner and wife Mary, Richard Warner and wife Debbie, and Tom Warner and wife Debbie; sisters Betty Lou Tipton, Theresa Ellis, and Daisy Oary; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, son Marlin Keppler, 3 brothers and 1 grandchild. 

Carol E. Scott, 78, of Bement, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Carol was born on May 16, 1935 in Edgewood, IL the daughter of James E. and Lucille Ragle. She married Daniel W. Scott on April 27, 1956 in Louisville, KY. He passed away on May 10, 2004.

Survivors include her son; Jeff Scott (Fiancée Nicky Bales) of Bement, grandchildren; Paige Scott of San Diego, CA, Taylor Scott of Savoy, Jacob Lietz of Mahomet, Jenna Bales of Bement, Jessica Hahn Kosack of Bloomington, Kyle Hahn of South Dakota, and great grandchildren; Isabell and Grace Lietz. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son (Greg Scott), and 3 bothers (James Ragle, Joseph Eldrid Ragle, and Richard Ragle).

Carol retired from Cap and Gown in Champaign. The joys of her life were her grandchildren, Debbie’s Dance Studio, the Bement Country Opry, and her puppies Ozzie and Ethel.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kirby Medical Center, Dr. Narain Mandhan, Jerry and Jenny Ragle of Urbana, and Betty Ensign of Monticello.

Virginia Eileen Shaw, 96, Weldon, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Friday (Jan. 10, 2014) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Weldon United Methodist Church, Weldon, with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill and the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Weldon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Weldon, the daughter of Vernon and Opal Adams Workman. She married Raymond Samuel Shaw on July 16, 1937, in Covington. He passed away March 2, 2002.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Rae (Vernal “Bud”) Kissee, Champaign, and Judy Shaw, Weldon; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and one nephew.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Virginia was a member of Weldon United Methodist Church. She liked reading, working crossword puzzles, doing needlepoint and going to craft shows. Her fluffy friend “Chipper” always enjoyed making trips to visit her.

Frank Eugene Butler, 62, of Bement, passed away at his residence on Friday, January 10, 2014. He was born on November 4, 1951 in Hannibal, MO the son of Jasper Franklin and Dorothy Elaine (Terry) Butler.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Amy McDermith, James Kahluas McDermith, and Wesley Aaron McDermith all of home, Catherine Elaine (Jason) Jacobs of Perryville, IN, Douglas Franklin (Mary) Butler of Washington, IL, Frances Kathleen Butler of Mattoon, IL, grandchildren; Jessica, Brett, Taylor, Zoe, and Emma, a brother; James Wesley (Sheryl) Butler of Bement, sisters; Sharon (Garry) Adams of Branson, MO, Donna (Bill) Wilson of Fulton, MO, and Lisa (Bill) Hosenfelt of Calwood, MO., along with longtime friends Bob Anderson, Tom Walters, and Jerry Peters. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, 1 brother, 1 sister, 2 nephews, 1 great niece, and several aunts and uncles.

Frank was self-employed. Frank was a member of the Sadorus Sportsmen Club and he enjoyed golfing, racing, playing pool, photography, family time and spending time with his children.

Florence Elizabeth Lane, 91, Clinton, died at 12:57 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 9, 2014) at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

She was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Chicago, daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth Beauvios Roschinsky. She married Ray Lane on Sept. 21, 1940, in Burlington, Iowa. He passed away in 1995. She later met beloved friend of 30 years, Carl Lawrence Anderson. He passed away May 31, 2013.

Survivors include her son, Kevin Lane, Kewadin, Mich.; sister, Elaine Hallick, Rome; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Francis Sanders; two sons, Terry Lane and Gary Lane; one sister, Mary Lou Firestone; and one brother, Dean Temple.

Florence had great love for pets. She enjoyed going on walks on the beach with her beloved friend, Carl, and going to the DeWitt County Friendship Center.

Floyd Raymond Russell, 66, of Weldon died 8:45 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 9, 2014) in his residence.

Floyd was born Dec. 1, 1947, in Gravelswitch, Ky., the son of David Lewis and Laura Exie Daugherty Russell. He worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years. He enjoyed working on cars and fishing. When he went fishing, he would go with "Smitty" but on his clipboard he would put "Gone fishing with Orlando Wilson." He also enjoyed farming with Riddle and Ferguson families. He married Deb Shofner in 1965. He later married Sarah "Sass" Thoms on Dec. 14, 1969. 

Surviving are his children, Shawn (Tom) Miller of Clinton; Bobby (Jamie) Russell of Weldon; sister, Shirley Kirk of Farmer City; brother, Steven Russell of Champaign; grandchildren, Shaynie (Kody) Knoth, Paige Russell, Chantel Russell, Hunter Mueller; great-grandchildren, Issiah, Ayla, Mylee, Brayden and Kayelynn. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Christopher Russell; and brother, Michael. 

Patricia “Pat” Aper, 64, of Lincoln died at 5 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 9, 2014) at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln.

Brenda was born July 10, 1941, in Moweaqua, the daughter of Cayle and Bettie Bland Alverson. She was a member of First Christian Church, Clinton, and the DeWitt County Home Extension. She married Abner J. Griffin on March 9, 1963, in Clinton.

Surviving are her husband, son, Brian (Tisha) Griffin of Clinton; grandchildren, Zachary and Kayley; brother, Dan (Georgia) Alverson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister, Cindy (Wayne) DeBoard of Mount Olive.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Thomas Besser Tobin, 76, Monticello, died at 3:05 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 5, 2014) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

A private memorial service will be at a later date.

Tom was born Jan. 18, 1937, in Bloomington, the son of James E. and Neoma Besser Tobin of Farmer City. He married Margaret Louise Pettyjohn on Aug. 28, 1972, in Decatur.

Survivors include his wife; son, Kevin Tobin, Champaign; daughter, Kristina L. Tobin, Champaign; and a brother, James E. Tobin, Farmer City.

Tom was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War era.

Hilma L. Wilham Horn, 92, Mount Pulaski, nurse, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2014).

Carolyn Sue Huff, 68, DeLand, died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 4, 2014) at her residence.

Her graveside service will be at a later date at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand. Wes Cornwell will officiate. The family has entrusted Trigg & Calvert Funeral Home,   DeLand, with arrangements. Memorials may be made to her grandchildren Briana and Will’s education fund.

She was born Dec. 24, 1945, in DeLand, daughter of Clarence Webb and Gertrude Curry. She married Everett Lynn McKee. She later married W.D. “Bill” Huff on Nov. 29, 1968, in Weldon. He passed away Aug. 30, 2009.

Survivors include her son, Robert McKee, DeLand; two grandchildren, Briana McKee and Will McKee; three sisters, Joanne Kelly, Urbana; Marsha (Tom) Hedges, Douglas, Ga.; and Bonnie Harding, California; and one brother, Larry (Vonnie) Webb, Deer Park, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.

She had worked at Eureka Williams in Bloomington for 20 years.  

Brian Gregory Hughes, 33, formerly of Warrensburg, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2014).

Herman A. Boyer, 81, Clinton, Korean War Army veteran and retired from Fort Drum, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2014).

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday, Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. No visitation. Body was cremated. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Harold Dean Fitzgerald, 92, of Clinton, passed away at 2:04 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2014) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Remembrance ceremony by Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, with funeral services following with the Rev. Stephen Killion officiating. Interment will follow in Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Harold Dean Fitzgerald was born on Oct. 15, 1921, in Clinton, the son of Ira and Hulda Ebershol Fitzgerald. He married Mae Louise Brewer in February 1945, in Peoria.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Louise Fitzgerald, Clinton; brother-in-law, William Brewer Jr. and his wife, Karen, Stephens City, Va.; sister-in-law, Ann Fitzgerald, Matteson; four nephews, Dwight (LouAnn) Fitzgerald, Taylorville, N.C.; Ricky (Miranda) Fitzgerald, Orlando, Fla.; Ronnie F. Fitzgerald Jr., Steger; and Randy Fitzgerald, Matteson. Also surviving is his cat, Cassie, which he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Major Rodney H. Fitzgerald on April 30, 1980; brother, Ronald Fitzgerald on July 8, 2008; half brother, Melvin Fitzgerald; and nephew, Larry Fitzgerald.

Harold was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clinton. He was a boatswain’s mate 1st Class in the US Navy in World War II from Oct. 18, 1939 to Oct. 18, 1945. Harold flew along the California coast in blimps for the US Navy during the war. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, he had served on the USS Indianapolis and his last ship he served on was USS Windham Bay CVE–92.

He established Fitzgerald Jeweler’s April 1, 1957, where he was the owner and operator, in Clinton. He later opened a store in 1978 at Hickory Point Mall. Harold owned the Meadow Lakes subdivision on Route 10. He was a member of the Elks, VFW, American Legion and Kiwanis Club. He served on the board of the Illinois Retail Jeweler’s Association for many years and also was past president in 1972 and 1973. He was chosen for “Operation Tiger” a series of cruises conducted by the US Navy to demonstrate its capabilities to the public.
