James Halden Kline of Clinton

James Halden Kline, 83, of Clinton died 8:45 a.m. Sunday (July 28, 2013) in his family residence.

James was born July 6, 1930, in Stonington, the son of Fred O. and Naomi Hollingsead Kline. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated with honors from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1958, and went to George Williams College in preparation for a career at the YMCA. After serving at the Duncan YMCA in Chicago and the Joliet Y, he was the executive director of the Clinton YMCA for many years. After retirement, he worked as a safety engineer during construction of the Clinton Power Plant. He also raised Standard Bred race horses on his farm near Clinton. He was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Weldon Springs Foundation, a member of the Harness Horseman’s Association, AM-Vets, former member of Kiwanis, active in the Englewood, Fla., Methodist Church Methodist Men and Fun Bunch. He was a member of the DeWitt County Farm Bureau and enjoyed many summer trips with them. In his Y work, he helped found and act in the Y Players, formed Y youth basketball leagues with cheerleaders, Y Day Camp and organized the building of the gym, handball courts, exercise room, etc. He greatly enjoyed his family, friends, his horses, fishing, Farm Bureau trips and winters in Florida. He married Betty L. Mieher on Jan. 29, 1956, in Bloomington.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Dr. Kevin (Marla Smith) Kline of Champaign; Steven (Tracy) Kline of Glen Ellyn; James R. “Jamie” (Katy) Kline of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, Benjamin Kline, Julia Kline, Jocelyn McCulley, Kylen McCulley, Zachery Kline, Chelsea Kline, Joanna Kline and Jarod Kline; great-granddaughter, Lydia; sisters, Darlene Brown of Duluth, Ga.; Maris Shake of Mount Pulaski.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved daughter, Rebecca “Becky” McCulley; brother, Fred O. Kline Jr.; sister, Elouise Castell.

Evelyn Newton of Lincoln

Bonnie Sprague of Waynesville

Bonnie L. Sprague, 84, Waynesville, died at 12:37 p.m. Sunday (July 28, 2013) at her family residence in Waynesville.

Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Jack Sprague officiating. Interment will be at McClimans Cemetery, Hallsville. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

She was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Magnolia, daughter of William Henry and Clara Hefner Scott. She married Paul Eugene “Gene” Sprague on Jan. 17, 1948, in Paragould, Ark. He passed away April 21, 1988.

She is survived by her children, Coralee (Tad) Mrazek, Dunlap; Chris (Jim) Tusek, Normal; Jeff Sprague, Pottsboro, Texas; John (Denise) Sprague, Kenney; and Jay (Lisa) Sprague and Cathy (Shawn) Newberry, both of Clinton; brothers, William (Jeanette) Scott, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Marion (Joann) Scott, Delavan; sisters, Betty Weyhrich, Green Valley, and Virginia North, Mount Shasta, Calif.; sister-in-law, Rita Scott, Tomball, Texas; 25 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Walter Scott.

She was affiliated with Green Valley United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Bunko Club, DeWitt County Farm Bureau and the Red Hat Society. She also enjoyed bowling. She volunteered for many organizations. For one year, she taught first to eighth grades in a one-room schoolhouse.

Ethel Fay Galt of Monticello

Ethel Fay Galt passed away at 8:05 a.m., Friday July 26, 2013 surrounded by her family at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Eugene McKinney of Clinton

Eugene McKinney, 97, of Clinton died at 2:09 p.m. Friday (July 26, 2013) at his family home in Clinton.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors at the gravesite. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

Eugene was born Sept. 2, 1915, in Texas Township, DeWitt County, son of Robert N. and Emma Blasengame McKinney. He married Edna Azbill on Oct. 13, 1935, in Mount Vernon. She passed away Jan. 12, 2004.

Surviving are his daughter, Betty Armstrong, Clinton; son, Vince McKinney, Semi Valley, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

He was a member of Clinton First Christian Church and a U.S. Army Airforce veteran.

Marjorie Jean Winters of Warrensburg

Delores Ann White Ferrell of Oreana

Delores Ann White Ferrill, age 84, of Oreana passed away at 1:06 PM, Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Argenta United Methodist Church in Argenta with Chaplain Dan Spruell and Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the church. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta is in charge of arrangements. Delores “Dee” was born October 13, 1928 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Freeman S. and Florence L. Kaufman White. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Ferrill on April 15, 1948 in Argenta. Having lived all her life in the Argenta-Oreana area, Dee was a lifelong member of the Argenta United Methodist Church where she played both the organ and piano for church services. She also played for many funeral services for the former Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Argenta. Dee was an active member of the United Methodist Women, Prairie Homemakers, and Eastern Star.

 

Much like her mother, Dee was an excellent cook and most known for her delicious vegetable soup which she readily shared with shut-ins and others. We were a lucky family to share so many wonderful meals at her home and she especially loved entertaining during the holidays. Dee and Bob also enjoyed many years of camping and several trips to Florida. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and she loved being a part of their lives.

 

Dee is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob; son Mike and wife Sue of Oreana; granddaughter Lindsey Hans and husband Sam of Mahomet; grandson Brent Ferrill and friend Haley Wade of Oreana; and great-grandson Michael Allan Hans. She is also survived by a brother D. F. “Woody” White and wife Kathy of Argenta; and niece, Jennifer White. Dee was preceded in death by her parents.

Alva C. Miller of Clinton

Alva was born on June 28, 1919, in Anderson County, Ky., daughter of William Wallace Kays and Emma Ray Camic. She enjoyed gardening, farming and watching golf. She married Paul Douglas Miller on April 22, 1945, in Mattoon. He preceded her in death April 13, 2001.

Surviving are her son, Steven D. (Jo) Miller of Clinton; daughters, Dixie (Keith) Wantland of Taylorville; Lynda (Steve) Atchason of Decatur; brother, James (Nina) Kays of Mount Zion; sisters, Mae Baker of Las Vegas, Nev.; Elizabeth (Lee) Slater of Windsor; grandchildren, Cynthia (Brian) Nisinger of Jamestown, N.C.; Scott (Michele) Rottler of Vale, Ariz.; Shelby Rottler of Decatur; Shaye (Andrew) Huffman of Wapella; Sydne Miller and Trey Miller, both of Clinton; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; one brother; and two sisters.

Cecil Leon Radley of Clinton

Cecil Leon Radley, 81, Clinton, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 24, 2013) at Manor Court, Clinton.

His graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors. J. Kent Hickerson will officiate. There will be no visitation. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Cecil Radley Memorial Fund.

He was born June 5, 1932, in DeWitt, son of Raymond Radley and Carol Baker.

He married Carol J. Lighthall on Sept. 26, 1958, in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Carol J. Radley; daughter, Kim (Scott) Cooper; and son, Kevin Radley, all of Clinton; two granddaughters, Kristin (Jesse) Goode and Kyla Yeagle; one grandson, Andrew Fleming; two great-grandchildren, Kai Evin Goode and Jazlyn Rose Goode; one stepbrother, Dennis Davenport, and one stepsister, Phyllis Coon, both of Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Revere Copper & Brass Inc. and retired from The Eureka Co. in Bloomington. Following retirement, he did farm work and babysat his grandchildren. He loved collecting antiques and family history. He enjoyed watching the Illini and the Cubs. He was a loving father and grandfather, a friendly outgoing soul who enjoyed helping others.

He was truly loved and will be greatly missed.

Eileen Short of Clinton

Eileen Short, 103, of Bloomington, formerly of Clinton, died 5:07 a.m. Tuesday (July 23, 2013) in Martin Health Care Center, Bloomington.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Ed Bacon officiating. Eileen was born May 26, 1910, in Waynesville, the daughter of Joseph and Laura Parker Cunningham. She was a member of Wapella Christian Church. She enjoyed making quilts and sewing for many years. She married Owen Short on Jan. 17, 1931, in Lafayette, Ind. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1985.

Surviving are her daughter, Doris Dash of Normal; daughter-in-law, Joey Short of Clinton; grandchildren, Mike Short and Steve (Linda) Short, both of Clinton; Phil Short of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Brian (Tammi) Dash of Weldon; Brad (Vanessa) Dash of Geneva; great-grandsons, Zach Dash; Drake Dash; Troy Dash and Trevor Blue.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert Short; son-in-law, Thomas Dash; three brothers and three sisters.

Bobby Brown of Mt. Pulaski

Bobby C. “Bob” Brown, 60, passed away at 8:12 P.M. on July 22, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Bob was born on August 12, 1952 in Monticello, IL, son of Russell and Verna Cox Brown. He married Lisa Milner on April 7, 1973 in Mt Pulaski, she survives him. He was an assembler at Caterpillar in Decatur for 39 years and he was a member of the Mt Pulaski Christian Church . He loved to fish and hunt and also loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Also surviving are two children: Kara (Jeremy) Davis of Mt Pulaski and Clayton ( Alicia Garnett, fiancé) Brown of Mt Pulaski; two grandchildren: Kennedy and Broxton Davis, the joy of his life, of Mt Pulaski; five sisters: Betty Ford of Kansas; June (Bob) Scrivner of Missouri; Glenda (Glen) Roberts of Indiana; Kay Taylor of Roanoke, IL; and Sue (Bob) Hibbs of Decatur, IL; three brothers: Herman (Sharon) Brown of Maroa,IL; Jody Brown of Kentucky, and Roy Allen of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Russell Brown Jr, and one sister-in-law Diana Brown.

Services for Bob will be 10 A.M. Friday July 26, 2013 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt Pulaski with Mark Weber officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 Thursday July 25, 2013 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt Pulaski. Burial at Mt Pulaski Cemetery will follow after the service. James B. Mathews of Lincoln

James B. Mathews, 78, of Lincoln formerly of Decatur passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He loved to golf, bowl, fish and played the trumpet in a band called the DelMar Band. James was a co-owner of Folraths Shoe Store and later worked at Raupps Shoe Store. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 401 in Decatur, the Moose Lodge 684 and member of American Legion Lincoln, IL.

He leaves behind his companion Wanda Zurkamer of Lincoln, daughters Pam (Danny) Greenway of TN, Beth (Steve) McDonald of LA, Kay (Rick) Caballero of TX; son Mike Mathews of TX; step daughters Jean (Joe) Doss of Decatur, Lisa (Chuck) Humphreys of CA; 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.

Roy L. Nurberger, 87, Broken Arrow, Okla., formerly of Weldon and Du Quoin, died Monday (July 22, 2013).

Elsie K. Menzel of Lincoln

Elsie K. Menzel, 91, of Lincoln passed away at 12:57 p.m. Saturday (July 20, 2013) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Elsie was born Oct. 30, 1921, daughter of William August and Katherine Amelia Horn Komnick in Emden. She was united in marriage to Julian Menzel in Elkhart on Nov. 9, 1947. He preceded her in death Aug. 29, 2010.

Elsie attended Emden elementary and high school, graduating from Hartsburg High School and Lincoln College. She worked as a secretary to a county judge and several local attorneys, as well as probation officer and a number of years in admissions at Lincoln College. Elsie served on the Foundation Board of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Community Concert Board, St. John UCC council and various community organizations. She was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary and Nature Conservancy as well as several local organizations.

Survivors to Elsie include her brother, Thomas E. (Dorothy) Komnick, Emden; nephews and nieces,  Richard A. Smith, Dunedin, Fla.; David (Linda) Smith, Clearwater, Fla.; Lee (Mari Anne) Komnick, Lincoln; Katharine S. (Andrew) Frontiero, Dunedin, Fla.; Barbara J. Smith, Chattanooga, Tenn.; David (Patricia) Menzel, Springfield; Harry Earle (Jean) Menzel, Kankakee; Michael (Marsha) Menzel, Williamsville; and Scott (Wendy) Menzel, Louisville, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marjorie A. Smith.

The service for Elsie will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jan Johnson and the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating. A burial will follow the service at Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, and an hour before the service on Wednesday.

She preferred flowers or donations be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria or to the St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln.

Illa Maxine Miller of Heyworth

Illa Maxine Miller, 88, rural Heyworth, more recently of Normal and Bloomington, died Saturday (July 20, 2013) at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Peggy Vogelsinger officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Wapella. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the memorial home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heyworth Fire and Ambulance Service, Heyworth; the youth camping program of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington; or District 90 Education Foundation, Pontiac.

Maxine was born March 3, 1925, at Little York, the daughter of Clarence Styles and Alice Marie Johnson Sims. She married Roland L. Miller on March 30, 1947, at Park Methodist Church, Bloomington. He died Jan. 20, 2002.

Survivors include their three sons, Claude E. (Martha) Miller, Bloomington; Darrell L. (Cathy) Miller, Heyworth; and Paul S. Miller, Pontiac; eight grandchildren, Michelle L. (Bill) Brown, Roswell, Ga.; Sherry K. (Marcus) Fredericks, Naperville; Kimberly A. (Nic) Campbell, Appleton, Wis.; Lana J. Miller, Normal; Nicholas E. (Cathy) Miller, Bloomington; Steven P. (Amy) Miller, Ocean Springs, Miss.; Erik L. (Chelsey) Miller, Clinton, Iowa; and Emily L. (Daniel) Coers, Hartsburg; and great-grandchildren, Jillian Brown; Luke and Ryan Fredericks; Illa and Roland Campbell; Corinne and Norah Miller; plus one due from Steven and Amy in August; a niece; three nephews.

Her parents; a sister Gladys M. (Glenn) Langhoff; and a brother, Forrest L. (Dorothy) Sims Sr., preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Bloomington, class of 1947. She worked a few years as an office nurse for Dr. T.S. Cumming in Heyworth. She and her husband farmed southeast of Heyworth for more than 50 years prior to his death in 2002.

She was a charter member and first president of the Heyworth Fire Maids, a charter member of the Heyworth Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and was a past president of the Heyworth PTA.

Our Mom moved from the farm to Blair House in Normal in 2003, until her struggle with Alzheimer’s/dementia in 2010 became too much for her to handle alone. She continued to live at Luther Oaks in Bloomington until very recently going to McLean County Nursing Home.

The Miller family would like to thank the staff of Luther Oaks, the staff of McLean County Nursing Home and Dr. Michael Cochran for their loving care and concern for our Mom and Grandma and for all the extra effort all of you put forth to allow her to live her final months and days with grace and dignity. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Quiram Peasley Funeral Home, Atlanta, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. James Reike Wibben was born Feb. 24, 1947, in Lincoln, the son of Reike Smith Wibben and Virginia Sank Wibben. He married Janet Pech on March 26, 1977. She died Sept. 26, 1987. He married Marge Dowell on Aug. 27, 1988. She survives in Lincoln.

Also surviving are his children, Jody Wibben, Atlanta; Julie (Dan) Benedict, San Antonio, Texas; and Matthew J. (Trisha) Presswood, Chestnut; one sister, Janet Groth, Emden; one brother, Jeff Wibben, Hartsburg; and five grandchildren, Danielle Benedict, Colton Benedict, Ayiana Benedict, Aaron Durchholz and Karson Presswood.

Jim graduated from Hartsburg Emden High School in 1965. He farmed in the Hartsburg, Atlanta and Beason areas for many years. He retired from the Logan County Reconditioned Cemetery District after working for 20 years. He was a member of the Chestnut Men’s Club in Chestnut.

Jim enjoyed his family, kids and grandkids, camping, traveling, fishing and woodworking.

Mary was born September 29, 1924 in Clinton, IL, the daughter of George “Jack” and Nora (Conroy) Duvall. She married Lyle G. Becker on October 29, 1954 in Monticello, IL. He passed away January 14, 2004.

She is survived by her daughter, Candy Hoke of Clinton, IL; sons, Terry (Vicki) Morrow of Camdenton, MO and Tim (Terri) Morrow of Ypsilanti, MI; step-sons, Kenneth (Sharon) Becker of Deland, IL and David (Dale) Becker of Farmer City, IL; brothers Joe Duvall of Clinton, IL and Mike (Paula) Duvall of River Falls, WI; sister, Theresa Allen of Clinton, IL as well as many Nieces and Nephews. Also surviving are Six Grandchildren and Sixteen Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents; one son, Tony Becker; one step-daughter, Kathy Becker; two Sisters and two Brothers.

Mary was Secretary-Bookkeeper for many years for Becker Trucking – the business her husband and she owned and operated. She was a member of the DeLand American Legion and The Clinton Women’s Eagle Auxiliary. She loved the Cubs, the Illini, and was a Bears fan.

Mary Rose Ann Sampson of Lincoln

Mary Rose Ann Sampson, 72, Lincoln, died Sunday (July 7, 2013) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Her memorial service will be at 6 p.m. today at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. There will be no burial. Mary was born June 28, 1941, in Lincoln, the daughter of Sweeter C. and Inez Pauline (Littrell) Wiggers. She married Lawrence “Larry” Sampson on July 28, 1961, in Atlanta.

Surviving are her husband, Larry Sampson, Lincoln; children, Valerie (Gary) Sanborn, Lincoln; Carol (David) McEvoy, Athens; and Robin (Denise) Sampson and their three children, Cleveland, Tenn.; grandchildren, Carson Nichols, Brock and Blake McEvoy; great-grandchildren, Conner and Emma Nichols; and sister, Cathie (Ron) Nichols, Pleasant Shade, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Judy Bartlett.

Mary was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary; she was an accomplished seamstress and baker. At one time, she sold Celebrity Jewelry. She loved to read, work crossword puzzles and word find and loved to go to the riverboat and gamble. She was employed at H&R Block in Lincoln for many years.

Leslie Cisco of Clinton

Leslie A. Cisco, 91, Clinton, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Saturday (July 6, 2013) at Manor Court, Clinton.

Leslie was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Wapella, the son of Lowell and Viola Fenner Cisco. He married JoAnne Bailey on Aug. 21, 1949. She passed away July 23, 1987.

Surviving are his children, Leslie S. Cisco, Morris; Lee A. Cisco, Fort Worth, Texas; and David B. (Jennifer) Cisco, Clinton; five grandchildren, Travis, Cameron, Rachel, Hannah and Josie; and one brother, Haldean Cisco, Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Francis.

Leslie was a World War II and Korean conflict veteran, serving in the Air Force. He worked for 30 years for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad before retiring in 1983. He enjoyed working on the farm for Richard Reynolds and Scottie May.

William E. Reinthaler of Clinton

William E. Reinthaler, 78, Clinton, formerly of Bloomington, died Saturday (July 6, 2013) at his family residence, after a lengthy illness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure.

A private family service will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, assisted the family with cremation rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the music program at Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington; Sound of Illinois Chorus, Bloomington; or Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Mich.

He was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Harrisburg, Pa., son of Robert F. and Martha Hainsey Reinthaler. He married Bernice E. Peterson on Sept. 2, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dickinson, N.D.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice “Bee” Reinthaler; children, William J. (Olga) Reinthaler, Bret (Linda) Reinthaler, Jodi (Jon) Mrowiec and Wade (fiancee, Julia Thornton) Reinthaler; and 10 grandchildren, Tyler, Caroline, Noel, Miles, Byron, Elizabeth and Joseph Mrowiec; and Elise, Claire and Lukas Reinthaler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Reinthaler

He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington.

Bill was a founding member of White Oak Duck Club. Bill was baptized by Dr. Harold Martin at Second Presbyterian Church. He sang in the church choirs directed by Dick Hoffland, where he developed his love of music. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1952 and from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., as a music major and was a member of the Concert Choir. He earned his master’s degree in voice from the University of Denver. Bill served as the minister of music at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison, Wis., from 1957 to 1961.

He later joined his father in the family construction business in Bloomington. He was hired as a construction specialist at State Farm Insurance Cos. in 1986, and retired in 2002. Bill discovered the property where he, and with help from his father and sons, built his dream home in 1991 near Clinton Lake while morel mushroom hunting. He enjoyed his yard, garden, flowers, trees, birds, and all of God’s creation. His love of music ranged from Bach and Brahms to Vivaldi, blues and jazz, Barbershop music to the Canadian Brass. He had very strong conservative convictions. He was pro-life, a strong supporter of the U.S. Constitution and America’s founding principles.  

Brenda Deerwester of Heyworth

Brenda “LaDon” Deerwester, 64, Heyworth, passed away at 4:35 p.m.  Thursday (July 4, 2013) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

A celebration of life gathering will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Times Past Inn, Bloomington. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with cremation rites.

Brenda was born April 1, 1949, in Rogersville, Tenn., the daughter of John McCoy and Geneva P. Jones Sizemore.

She married Sammie “Pudge” Bartlett of Bloomington and later married Carl Deerwester on Sept. 2, 1994, in Heyworth.

Survivors are her husband, Carl Deerwester, Heyworth; her son, David (Michelle) Bartlett, Mansfield, Texas; grandson, Jaxon Grae Bartlett, Mansfield, Texas; stepdaughter, Laurie Scott, Lane; sister-in-law, Keven Sizemore, Georgia; and her best friends, Jean Gordon, Bloomington, and Bob Madden, Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Angela Denise Bartlett; brother, John Sizemore; and her sister, Sue Mae Riddle.

Brenda graduated from Bloomington High School, and she worked for General Electric, retiring after 36 years.

She loved being outside tending her garden and spending time with her dogs and cat.

Brenda dearly loved her son, grandson and husband and will be deeply missed by all of them.
