Bettie M. Swanzy of Heyworth

Bettie M. Swanzy, 81, Heyworth, passed away at 7:39 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 28, 2012) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth. The Rev. Kurt Flora will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth.

Memorials may be made to Donna Floyd, 208 N. Emery St., Heyworth, IL 61752. Money will be used to benefit the Thursday Night Jam at the Heyworth Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Bettie was born June 10, 1930, in Bloomington, daughter of John Harry and Nellie V. Yazel Backlund. She married Harold E. “Sonny” Swanzy in 1953 in Downs. He passed away Dec. 15, 1992.

Survivors include one son, Mark E. (Donna) Swanzy, Wapella; two daughters, Kimberly J. Sciarrino and Beth R. Swanzy-Nevius, both of Heyworth; two grandchildren, Brittany N. and Cody E. Swanzy; and her two dogs, Bear and Sassy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Backlund and Raymond “Smokey” Backlund; and one sister, Marjorie Moon.

Bettie owned and managed two mobile home parks in Heyworth.

She loved her flowers, plants and dogs. She enjoyed going to the Heyworth VFW for the Thursday Night Jams. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband before his death. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren.

Betty D. Cutright of Kenney

Betty D. Cutright, 69, of Kenney died 11:48 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 28, 2012) in Decatur Memorial Hospital. Doris Louise Rentmeister Bertsche of Mt. Pulaski

Doris Louise Rentmeister Bertsche, 100, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2012 at Vonderlieth Living Center. She was born in Mt. Pulaski, IL, December 29, 1911 to Edward and Rena Broughton Rentmeister. She was one of eight children. Louise married John Bertsche and they had twins in 1934, Bernardine Louise (Donald) Shutt and Bernard Leon (Sharon Parks). She loved being a mother and delighted in her grandchildren Mark (Shari), Jeffrey (deceased and Gregory (Stephanie) Shutt and Crystal Bertsche (deceased). She has three great granddaughters, Brittany (Ben) Conine, Jacquie and Madison Shutt. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mt. Pulaski. She was a homemaker and then worked for many years at Bressmer's Department Store in women's apparel in Springfield. Louise loved gardening, flowers, sewing, knitting and crafts. She loved painting and ceramics. She was an avid card player and enjoyed weekly games with her friends Erma, Margaret and Wilma. Her passion was loving people. During her time at Vonderlieth, she loved to walk the halls and visit with friends. She was quick with a smile and loved everyone. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, her husband, children, and four grandchildren. Her family would like to give special thanks to Helen Schmidt and the dedicated, compassionate staff at Vonderlieth for their kind service to Louise. He especially enjoyed planting and harvest season and later he retired from Roberson Transportation, Mahomet, IL after 12 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967 and was a member of the American Legion Post #55, Farmer City, IL. and the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL. Johnny Lee Shankel of Heyworth

Johnny Lee Shankel, 61, rural Heyworth, died at 1:05 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 18, 2012). His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Kurt Flora officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Carl E. Miller Post 624 American Legion, Heyworth. Frances M. Baker of Clinton

Frances M. Baker , 87, of Clinton passed away at 8:31 p.m Friday (Feb. 17, 2012) at Manor Court Nursing Home in Clinton. 

The funeral service for Frances will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Quiram Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Mr. Kent Hickerson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mountjoy Cemetery at rural Atlanta.

Frances Mae Baker was born Sept. 17, 1924 in Atlanta,  the daughter of John Calvin and Gladys Marie Irvin King. She married Wilbur “Jiggs” Baker on July 17, 1940, in Peoria.  Surviving are her husband of Clinton; two daughters, Gladys Marie (Larry) Anderson of Oregon and Carol (Steve) Day of Georgia; one son, Randall (Brenda) Baker of Florida; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Frances was a member of the First Christian Church in Clinton.  Memorials may be made to the Dr. John Warner Hospital in Clinton or the Atlanta Public Library.
