Thomas"Tom" Michael Hurtt, 65 of Clinton, IL passed away September 27, 2024, at Carle Methodist Hospital, Peoria, IL. 

Tom was born March 11, 1959, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Richard and Marilyn (Diamond) Hurtt, who preceded his death.

Tom is survived by his children, Matthew Hurtt, Lisa (Hurtt) Taylor, Thomas Harweger and Michael Hurtt; his grandchildren, Curtis Harweger, Daniel Harweger, Amelia Harweger and Henry Taylor; his siblings, James Hurtt, Julie (Hurtt) Kellett and Donna (Hurtt) Luter, along with his nieces and nephews. 

Tom retired from the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators, Local 1. Tom was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was active in his church, kind, generous and thoughtful. He was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back. Tom was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Celebration of Life services will be private and at a later date. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with cremation rites.

Ruth Ann Lowers

Ruth Ann (Colbert) Lowers, age 76, of Clinton passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 2:16 pm at Manor Care, Clinton. After a short battle with cancer, she moved to hospice care one week prior to her death. She passed with family by her side. 

 

Ruth Ann was born to Paul and Kathryn (Barnett) Colbert on November 20, 1947 in Macomb, IL.  Her father called her “Stumpy” as he told her and many that they found her on a stump and brought her home.  

 

Robert “Ted” Lowers and Ruth Ann Colbert were married on August 21, 1966 in Easton, IL. They moved to Clinton in 1969 where they made their life together welcoming three children. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. 

 

Ruth was co-owner of Water Tower Antiques. She later co-owned with her husband, Lowers Furniture; R.A. Lowers Catering, and Ted’s Garage. She worked for more than 30 years at the DeWitt County Courthouse. Ruth retired from her role as administrative assistant to the Honorable Judge Karle Koritz on September 19, 2024. 

 

Ruth cared deeply for her family, friends and community. She was an active volunteer in the community, working closely over the years with DeWitt County 4-H, Welfare League, Celebrate Clinton, Dove, Inc, and a member of Clinton United Methodist Church. Ruth served on the Board of Education of the Clinton Unit School District #15 for 16 years. She was instrumental in the start and a Charter Member of the Clinton Community Educational Foundation (CCEF) which began in 2006. She greatly enjoyed seeing the impact CCEF was able to make in providing classroom grants to teachers, supporting student enrichment activities and inspired by young people who sought scholarships to further their education. She loved family traditions and hosting in her home. She took great pride in honoring other families’ special moments through her catering business. 

 

A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she could be seen anywhere from a dance recital to ringside at a cattle show, a grade school soccer game to a college softball game and all the various places and activities in between. She loved spending time with family and friends at college football games including the Illini and Northwestern.

 

She is survived by her husband, Ted; sister, Kay Stelter, Havana; children: Katy Arnold, Clinton; Jennifer (Sean) Black, Springfield; Ben (Nicole) Lowers, Clinton  and Sam Arnold, Clinton. Grandchildren include: Grace & Isabelle Arnold; Maya & Claire Black, Sophia & Sierra Lowers (great grandchildren: Corbyn and Maeora), Rylee(Austin) Matheny; and Bryden & Aidyn Barber. Honorary family: Delfino, Lourdes, Edgar & Sofia Naxi. 

 

Family will receive visitors from 4 pm - 7 pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton followed by a service at 7 pm. Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the Easton Cemetery in Easton, IL.  

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton Community Educational Foundation to establish a scholarship in her name.

Daniel Kevin Millman

Daniel Kevin Millman of Clinton, Illinois passed away peacefully with best friends and family at his side on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the age of 65.  He was born to John and Betty Sue Millman in Three Rivers, Michigan and grew up in South Bend, Indiana and Decatur, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Millman; son, Jeremy (Jolene) Hoke, 4 grandchildren, Lucy, Mary, Ruby, and William, sister, Tracey Millman, brother, John Millman; sister-in-law, Diane Daggett; sister-in-law, Virginia (Todd) Wilder; brother-in-law, Stewart (Marji) Daggett; uncle, Rich Caughron, aunts, Mary Lou Meader and Sue Agnese, cousins, Cullen (Erica) Caughron and Galen (April) Caughron; several nieces and nephews; as well as best friends P.C. (Patty) Wells, Nate Purviance, Joe Dosien, Jeff (Therese) Hilton; and we cannot forget Baxter, his beloved beagle.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty Sue Millman; his in-laws, Robert O. and Jocie Daggett; and brother-in-law, Robert D. Daggett.

Dan had a very successful career in Auto Sales & Management for 45 years.  Recently retiring.  Dan was looking forward to spending time with friends and family.  Cancer overtook his plans.  He loved playing with his grandchildren – a game of kickball, basketball, racing slot cars, or playing trains.  Dan was an avid Notre Dame, Appalachian State, St. Louis Cardinals, and Fantasy Football fan.  He spent 15 years or more sharing his deep love of music by DJ’ing weddings and school events as W.A.D.E. with good friend, Nate.  He loved people, life, and being outdoors.  Being a car guy, he enjoyed cars of all kinds from Indy Car, NASCAR, collecting model cars, or building models to finally owning his own Pontiac Solstice to drive.

Having a vacation cabin in North Carolina, Dan found a favorite spot, Thunder Hill on the Blue Ridge Parkway to sit and reflect.  He developed a love for hiking and biking.  He also enjoyed helping a good friend, Jeff; teaching him about  home brewing and making Baxter Brown, named after his beagle.  He treated everyone who came through the door like family.

Dan wanted a Celebration of Life in lieu of a funeral which will be held Sunday, September 29, 2024, 1 – 4 PM at the Georgia Jill, 1520 East South Street, Clinton, IL. He was always a happy, good-natured guy who will be missed by all who knew him.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL assisted the family with cremation rites.   

Special thank you to his entire oncology team at MIHAO in Normal, especially Dr. Jeong, Karen, Jeanne, Mimi, and Beth.

Priscilla Irene Lamb

Priscilla Irene Lamb, 94, of Clinton, IL passed away 10:38 AM Monday, September 23, 2024 at her daughter’s residence in Decatur, IL.

Services to celebrate both Michael Ervin Honecker and Irene Lamb will be 11 AM, Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Steve Ingram officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL for Michael and at Greenleaf Cemetery, Farmer City, IL for Irene. Visitation for Michael and Irene will be 10 – 11 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. 

Irene was born August 17, 1930 in Centralia, IL the daughter of Roy James and Susan (Farthing) Hardwick. She married Irvin Charles Honecker, Jr. August of 1946 in Salem, IL. He passed January 26, 1965. She later married Cecil Lamb January 19, 1995. He passed away September 12, 2009.

Survivors include her daughters, Patsy Glenn and Elaine (Jeff) Gibson, 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons, Kenneth Raymond Honecker, Sr. and Michael Ervin Honecker, one grandson, four brothers, and five sisters.

Irene retired from the Clinton School District after serving as Head Cook for over 30 years.  Irene was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary of Farmer City. She loved to play BINGO, but most of all, Irene loved spending time with her family.

Pamela R. (Comer) Lane

Pamela R. (Comer) Lane, 74, of Clinton passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 22, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

 

Pam was born on July 2, 1950, to Raymond and Evelyn (Cockerham) Comer. She married Mark Lane on July 2, 1968, he proceeds her in death. Pam is survived by her children, Gay (Cris) Mahoney, Thomas (Erika Motsinger), and Kristin (Joe) Sartie. The greatest joy of her life was being “Grams” and “Nin” to her five granddaughters: Kristyn (James) Bodine, Kylee (Brent) Holt, Jenna Sartie (Franklin Osgood), Alissa (Mitchell) Petersen, Sera Lane and great-grandson, Jett Bodine. Pam leaves behind a brother, Tom Comer, two sisters, Caroyl Sue Colbert and Nancy Roseman, and several nieces and nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Patricia Maxwell and Sandra Zeigler, and one brother Donald Comer.

 

Pam was a woman of many words and will forever be known for her brutal honesty, hard work, and loyalty. Pam loved spending time with her family and friends and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for those she loved. Pam spent her days doing what she loved best - making her daily round of texts and calls to everyone she knew, watching trash TV and giving her unsolicited advice on everyone’s Facebook posts. Her outspokenness provided entertainment and laughter to all who knew her. Pam lived everyday for ice cold Coca-Cola and piping hot tea. She was the rock of her family and the glue that held them all together. She will forever be missed and cherished.

 

The family would like to give a special thanks to a few individuals who went above and beyond for Pam by providing not only amazing care, but unconditional love and friendship. These individuals are Tina Reeves, Bonnie Young, Betty Heinrich, and Jeannie Yeakel. Your time and dedication meant more to Pam and her family than you will ever realize.

 

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Pam’s honor to the Ronald McDonald House Charities or Second Chance for Pets.

Kathleen Frick

Kathleen Frick, a fierce-loving, warrior left us peacefully on September 22, 2024.  Born on June 22, 1954, Kathleen lived a life filled with tremendous passion and selfless service to others.

 

Visitation will be 3-5 PM, Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.  Private graveside services will be held at Weldon Cemetery, Weldon, IL. 

 

Kathleen dedicated her life to being an advocate for children.  She worked hard as a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader, was a classroom mother to many, and a bonus mom to any child in need of extra loving care.

She was a Founding Director of the Write Stuff for Kids, Inc. and she worked hard to receive grants for the Clinton Community School District to implement a computerized lunch program to protect childhood innocence. 

 

Preceding her in death was her mother (Donna), her father (Bill “Silo”), and her sister (Penny).  Surviving her in death is her husband, Kenneth, and children (Tami & Greg Apple plus family, Amber & Robert Young plus family, Michael and LeeAnn Frick plus family).

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity or non-profit group.  One of Kathleen’s favorite non-profits was Ruby Rescue and Retreat, NFP – McLean, IL if you are looking for a recommendation.

David Earl Benson I

David Earl Benson I, of Clinton, IL, the love of my life for 40 years, passed away peacefully at our home on September 21, 2024. Born on January 12, 1946, to Christyne (Sullivan) and Earl Benson in Cisco, IL. 

He is survived by Cheryl of Clinton, IL, and his children: Michelle Valentine (Michael) of Kenney, IL, David Earl Benson II of Clinton, IL, Nicole Countryman (Wayne) of Bolivar, MO, and Amy Dietz of Clinton, IL. He also leaves behind grandchildren Lauren, Andrew, Shane, Nicolas, Felicia, Jessica, Faith, and Ella, as well as nine great-grandchildren, and siblings Linda Lamb of Indiana, Kenny Benson (Nancy) of Deland, IL, and Rebecca Askren (Dan) of Argenta, IL.  Preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Sharon, and brother Robert.

David retired as a skilled welder from UA Local 137 Plumbers and Steamfitters, contributing to the construction of the local Clinton power plant. A special thanks to his best friend and coworker, Bruce Fletcher for being there. 

A passionate outdoorsman, he loved boating, fishing, hunting, and skeet shooting, competing for several years with the Warrensburg Sportsman’s Club. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Clinton and cherished teaching his children and grandchildren various skills, from building Cub Scout derby cars to fishing.  The garden owl held a special place in his heart, primarily because it was a beloved treasure of his granddaughter Ella. 

Grandpa Butch will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be 12 PM Wednesday, September 25,2024 at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. There will be no visitation. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

William Eugene Lowery

William Eugene Lowery, 81, of Oviedo, FL passed away at 7:12 PM on September 14, 2024 at The Villages Regional Hospital of The Villages, FL.

 

Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Maranatha Church, Decatur, IL with Pastor Doug Lowery officiating.  Burial will follow at Weldon Cemetery, Weldon, IL. With Military Honors.  Visitation will be 6 – 9 PM Friday, September 27, 2024 at Maranatha Church, Decatur, IL and 1 hour before the services on Saturday at the church.  “Bill” was born December 10, 1942, in Bloomington, IL., the son of Eugene and Evelyn (Baker) Lowery. He married Gaye Crockett in 2001 in Tucson, AZ.

 

Survivors include his wife, Gaye Lowery, Oviedo, FL; daughter, Heidi (Carey) Haynes, Abilene, TX; Ace (Michelle) Lowery, El Paso, TX; Luke Lowery, El Paso, TX. Stepdaughters Hannah Bryant and Bethany Bryant of Tucson, AZ. Grandchildren: Chase Haynes, Brody (Ana) Haynes, Addison Lowery, Ryder Lowery, Hattan Lowery, Everson Lowery, Olivia Tarazon. Great grandchildren Oliver Haynes and Maeve Haynes.

He is also survived by his brother Douglas (Rosemary) Lowery, of Decatur IL; sister Jeanene (Phillip) Edrington of Decatur, IL. Uncle Bill was very proud of his many nieces and nephews.

 

William was preceded in death by his parents Walter Eugene Lowery and Evelyn (Baker) Lowery of Weldon, IL. His son William Todd Lowery, his brother Dennis (Gloria) Lowery, his sister Carolyn (Donald) Sennhenn, his niece Alicia Lynn Sennhenn, and nephew Darren Eugene Dragoo.

Earl W. Smith

Earl W. Smith, almost 84 (9-30-1940), of Ashville, AL, formerly of Clinton, IL, passed away at home with his wife by his side on September 14, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Sherrie Smith, sons Doug (Dana) Smith and Derek (Debbie) Smith; step-daughters Amanda Krodel and Brandee (Fred) Moore; grandchildren Cheyenne (Andrew) Rempe, Dillon (Marissa) Smith, Dalton Smith, J.T. Clifton, Kallie Moore, Josiah Krodel, Mathias Krodel, Anya Krodel, Ariah Krodel, and Jude Krodel; great-grandsons Otto Rempe and Bowen Smith; and sister Shirley (Don) DeMent. He is predeceased by his parents Ivan and Louise Smith, and brother Michael Smith.

Shortly after graduating from Clinton High School in 1958, he served as a vehicle mechanic in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964. He returned to Clinton until moving to Alabama in 1996. Outside of family, his proudest accomplishment was being recognized as “The People’s Champion” by his employees at National Set Screw in Glencoe, AL.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 10:30am to 11:00am at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, AL. The funeral service will begin in the chapel at 11:00am with military Army Honors following.

Eldred Budde

Eldred Budde 94 of Argenta, IL passed away 1:23 PM September 17, 2024 at his home in Argenta, IL with his family at his side. 

Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL with Rev. William K. Abbott and Rev. Brock Abbott officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 10 – 11 A.M. Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the church. Eldred was born January 19, 1930 in Clay County, IL the son of Otto and Emma (Bergman) Budde. He married Betty L. Cundiff March 3, 1956 in Argenta, IL.

Budde, Argenta, IL, children, Diane (Doug) Enos, Fisher, IL; Jeanette (Mark) Dodds, Decatur, IL; Renee Henne, Decatur, IL; and Doug (Stephanie) Budde, Greentown, IN, grandchildren, Jason Enos, Bryan Enos, Brittney Enos, Nathan (Mariah) Henne, Brielle (Abel Casas) Henne, Addison Budde, Emma Budde, and Ethan Budde, great grandchildren, Ronan, Maisie, and Kovur Henne, sisters, Carolyn Hammer, Altamont, IL and Judy (Sam) Stuemke, Altamont, IL, and sister-in-law, Loma Budde, Louisville, IL. 

Eldred was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Bernice (Ray) Wolff, Elnora Budde, Rufus Budde, Henry Budde, Delmar Budde, Darrel (Doris) Budde, Joan Cunningham, Janice Holste, Mervin Budde, and brother-in-law, Howard Hammer. 

Eldred was a Korean Conflict Veteran. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked as a welder for Caterpillar from 1955 until 1991.

Eldred was loved, respected and noted for his sense of humor. As a longtime member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Eldred always lived his faith and put it first. Eldred loved his family and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. 

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to all the healthcare and homecare helpers for their loving care.

Shirley Austine Thompson

Shirley Austine Thompson 89 of Clinton, IL went to her Heavenly Home at 9:05 PM August 17, 2024 at The Loft of Rock Springs, Decatur, IL.

 

Private Family Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Pastors Doug and Rosemary Lowery officiating.  The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

 

Shirley was born October 28, 1934 in Westervelt, IL the daughter of Robert Tracy and Esther Amanda (Hoke) Rawlings. She married Darwin Thompson, Sr. October 23, 1955 in Beason, IL.  He passed away March 29, 1994.

 

Survivors include her children, Darwin (Frannie) Thompson, Jr., Clinton, IL and Crystal (Larry) Bright, Penhook, VA;  grandchildren, Cybill (Chad) Hoke, Clinton, IL and Matthew Bright, Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren:  Bailey (Tanner) Huffman, Maroa, IL; Chad Alex (Haley) Hoke, Lincoln, IL; and Wesley Hoke, Clinton, IL; great-great-grandchildren:  Tilly Justine Huffman and Mack Dean Huffman, Maroa, IL; and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 infant brother.

 

Shirley was a loving Mother who was tender and kind. She attended the First Christian Church. Shirley enjoyed summer outings with her family and watching sports. She will be missed. "Her children rise up and call her blessed..." Proverbs 31:28

Barbara J. Johnson 87 of Kenney, IL passed away 2:43 P.M. September 15, 2024 at Copper Creek Cottages, Lincoln, IL.

Barbara was born January 19, 1937 in Latham, IL the daughter of Orville and Pauline (Centers) Cutright. She married Richard S. “Dick” Johnson March 17, 1954 in Bloomington, IL.

 

Survivors include her husband, Richard S. “Dick” Johnson, Kenney, IL; children, David Johnson, Wiggins, MS; Alice McCutcheon, Decatur, IL; Janiece DuPree, DeWitt, IL; and Melissa (Jeff) Jackson, Decatur, IL; one grandson, Justin Volker, Clinton, IL; siblings: Sharon Greenslate, Kenney, IL; Paula (Randy) Kelly, Kenney, IL; and Orville Cutright, Kenney, IL.

 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and four sisters.

 

Barbara was a past 4-H leader, Angel Tree volunteer and a member of the Salt Creek Quilt Guild, Illinois Master Quilters, Kenney Heritage Association and Kenney Khoury League.  Barbara worked at UPS before her retirement.

Teddy "Ted" Roseman

Teddy “Ted” Roseman, 80, of Clinton, IL passed away 11:43 PM, September 12, 2024 at Lincoln Village Healthcare Center, Lincoln, IL after a short nine hour stay.

Ted was born April 4, 1944 in Clinton, IL the son of Theodore and Eleanor (Foster) Roseman.  He married Nancy Comer October 16, 1964 in Clinton, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Roseman, Clinton, IL; daughter, Tina (Bill Bunn) Reeves, Clinton, IL, grandsons, Clay (Hannah) Reeves and Colten Reeves, great granddaughter, Sutton Reeves, granddog, Buster, and brother, Jerry (Betty) Roseman, Decatur, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Mary Burton, Betty Kyle, Norma Rich, Shirley Roseman, Sally Wellman and Kenneth “Rosie” Roseman.

 

After his retirement, he enjoyed his second part-time job working for Rich Plumbing. Ted was a wonderful father and grandfather. The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Penny Dinges and Bonnie Young.

Marion "Rob" Robb

Marion “Rob” Robb 97 of Argenta, IL passed away 8:25 A.M. September 12, 2024 at his family residence, Argenta, IL.

Marion was born February 15, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio the son of Marion and Margaret (Rayl) Robb. He married Melvina “Mel” Vaughn May 29, 1955 in Mackinaw, IL. She passed away March 27, 2020.

 

Survivors include his children, Cathie (Lonnie) Askren, Walstonburg, NC; and Melvin “Mike” (Charla) Robb, Moweaqua, IL; 3 grandchildren Jenny, Eric, and Lindzi and 6 great-grandchildren.

 

Marion was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Jackie Neal.

 

Marion was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII at the same time as his father and later during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for Caterpillar and retired after 35 years. He loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed bicycling, dancing, and following the Argenta Bombers sports, especially football.

Michael Ervin Honecker

Michael Ervin Honecker, 62 of Clinton, IL passed away 8:20 PM September 7, 2024 at his home in Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be at a later date at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

Michael was born July 20, 1962 in Clinton, IL the son of Ervin Charles “Bud”, Jr. and Irene (Hardwick) Honecker.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Meracle Honecker, granddaughter, Violet, mother, Irene Lamb, sisters, Patsy Glenn, and Elaine (Jeff) Gibson, along with many nieces & nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Kenneth Raymond Honecker, Sr., and grandparents.

 

Michael worked for Hayward V Gates and Plastics in Champaign, IL for many years. He loved his faithful dog, Cali and his mom’s cooking. He enjoyed his time riding his Harley with his brother, Kenny but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Herman Eugene Ahlfield

Herman Eugene Ahlfield, currently of Pana, Illinois, the 14th and youngest child of Edwin and Harriet (Knakmuhs) Ahlfield of West Salem, passed away in Pana on September 11, 2024. 

Herman worked from the age of six years at a wide variety of jobs and professions at which he always excelled-positions from shoeshine boy to roughnecking out West during the oil boom to being a coach, teacher, principal, superintendent, to the Dean of Instruction at Wabash Valley College.  Herman always excelled as an entrepreneur and in everything he attempted. 

In his 89 years of life, he touched and influenced thousands of people’s lives in a positive way.  He will be immensely missed.  Herman was a 50-plus year member of Masonic Lodge #866 of West Salem and a member of the Methodist Church in Pana.  His awards and accolades are too numerous to list.

Herman is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Scott (Lyn) Crowell of Livingston, Texas, Beverly Ramsey of Bradenton, Florida, Stanley Ahlfield of Olney, Joni (Don) Millman of Effingham, Kevin (Kim) Ahlfield of Olney, Alice (Mary) Ahlfield of Pellston, Michigan, Joey (Tony) Long of Clinton, and Brian (Kisha) Maurer of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Joshua (Staci) Millman, Ellen Millman, Donnie Millman, Jessica (Brandon) Bare, Courtney (Nathan) Hopf, Ashley (Caleb) Wallace, Megan Woolridge, Mason Woolridge, Taylor Ahlfield, Charity (Jared) Hermayer, Hayden Mauer, and Elle Maurer; one brother, James Ahlfield of Jasper, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Emma Lou Ahlfield of Hammond, Indiana; one brother-in-law, Burl Edwards of Cowden and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

Herman was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Henry Ahlfield, Charles Ahlfield, Jerome Ahlfield, Minnie Ahlfield, George Ahlfield, Dora Hale, Carl Ahlfield, Pete Ahlfield, Lara Spray, Lura Briggs, Enoch Ahlfield, and Imogene Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Ash Grove Christian Church in rural Windsor with Pastor Don Millman officiating.  Burial will take place in Cochran’s Grove Cemetery, also known as Ash Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Masonic rites performed at 7:00 p.m. by the Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville.  Memorials in Herman’s honor may be made to Mary Ahlfield for the Herman Ahlfield Memorial Scholarship Fund and mailed to 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.   Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.

Obituary

Kenneth L Carter, 93, of Clinton, went to his heavenly home on July 23rd, 2024. He received his perfect heavenly body. Kenneth had a very strong, unwavering faith and fought the good fight, always looking to God. He always sought out God’s wisdom with praying and reading the Bible when facing any and all situations in his life. Through all of the sickness, he always maintained a positive attitude. He always said it is a win-win situation, “If I live, I win. If I die, I win. I’m heaven bound, with no tears, no sorrows and no pain.”


The family entrusted Moran and Goebel Funeral Home, Decatur, IL with cremation rites. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Christ in Clinton, IL on Saturday, September 14th at 11 AM. There will be military rites and a lunch will be provided afterward.


Kenneth was born in Waynesville, IL on October 28th, 1930. He was the son of Willie and Lucinda (Coppenbarger) Carter. He is survived by his wife Linda (Phillis/Mayo) Carter, 2 daughters, Janetta (Stan) Bauer, Glenda (Mark) Kaufman, and 1 stepson, Michael Mayo, 3 granddaughters and 2 grandsons, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Kenneth is also survived by his brother, Leo (Marguerite) Carter.


Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, wife Berneice (Shipp) Carter, sisters Esther and Doris, brother Burnell and his wife Lita Carter, sister-in-law Mary Jane, son-in-law Stan Bauer, and stepson Robert Mayo.


Kenneth was a veteran in the Navy. In his young adult life, he was in farming and livestock with his father. He had a business in construction (KL Carter Home Repair) and was a landlord over several rental properties. He was on the County Board, Texas Township Board and Tax Review Board for many years. Kenneth was also a deacon and taught Sunday school classes at several Baptist churches and also taught Sunday school classes at the Church of Christ.


He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his beautiful smile, heartfelt prayers, caring and loving Christ-like gentle attitude toward everyone.


Memorials may be given to the Church of Christ, Clinton, IL or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Linda L. Kirby

Heyworth -- Linda L. Kirby, 76, of Heyworth passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Carle BroMenn Medical center in Normal.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the McLean Cemetery with Mr. Tony Billingsley officiating.

Linda L Funk was born on July 24, 1948, in Bloomington, the daughter of Stephen Correll and Glaida Maxine WadeFunk. She was united in marriage to Maurice Kirby on July 21, 1968. He survives.

Also surviving are her children: Dawn Smith, Mark Kirby, Erik Kirby, Laurel Estes, and Kenneth Kirby; five grandchildren: Shirley (Jacob) Casey, Brayden Estes, Austin Estes, Chad Kirby, and Allie Smith; one great-grandson: Theodore Casey; one sister: Susan Kirby; and three brothers: Larry (Sharon) Funk, Michael (Debbie) Funk, and Adam (Val) Funk.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Ronnie Kirby.

Linda graduated from Heyworth High School in 1966 and attended Illinois State University.

Her hobbies included reading and playing the piano and guitar.
