Beulah Marie Evans, 88, passed away at home on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. There will be a visitation for family and friends at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2013. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Katie Hopper officiating. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery. Beulah was born October 6, 1924 in Argenta, the daughter of Earnest Gilbert and Pearl Irene (White) Williams, one of eight children; 3 girls and 5 boys. She married the love of her life, Ben Evans on June 27, 1946. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2006 after 59 years of marriage. Beulah is survived by one sister, Mary Beals of Iowa; one sister-in-law, Marie Williams of Champaign; one brother-in-law, Carl Herring of Decatur; 2 children, John (Donna) Evans of Monticello and Karen Evans Foran of White Heath; 5 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Beulah worked as a waitress at Bill and Pete’s Café in Monticello in her early twenties, then as a bookkeeper at J.R. Heath and Sons. She left that job to become a stay home mom and homemaker, also volunteering at the Piatt County Nursing Home for 25 years bringing treats and smiles to many residents over those years. Her love of the outdoors and tending to her flower beds found her outside in all seasons from dawn to dusk. Well into her eighties, after living in her home for 60 years, she was known as the “little lady that swept Kratz Road”. Beulah was a generous and loving soul that always ended a conversation with “Have a great day!” She will be greatly missed by many, but her strong and loving spirit will be with us always. William E. Cox, 74, of Leesburg, Fla., and formerly of Kokomo, Ind., and Beason, died from cancer March 31, 2013, at his home.

Nola May Karr, 89 of Clinton, IL passed away at 5:00 A.M. March 30, 2013 at Hickory Point Christian Living Center, Forsyth, IL.

Miss Karr was born on July 9, 1923 on a farm near Wapella, IL the daughter of Frank and Dottie (Muirheid) Karr. She attended Mooreville Grade School and graduated from Wapella High School in 1941. She attended Illinois State University, Normal, IL while employed at State Farm Insurance Company, Bloomington, IL. In 1945 she accepted a civil service appointment with the War Dept. in Washington D.C. She transferred to the Post Office Dept. in 1946 and remained there for 32 years. She lived in Washington D.C. area until moving back to DeWitt County in 2005.

Nola belonged to the DeWitt Clinton Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, General Society of Mayflower Descendants and many genealogical societies. She was the family genealogist publishing family history books on the Baker, Cunningham, Karr and Muirheid families and one of all known ancestors. She also published the family newsletter on a quarterly basis. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She had many hobbies over the years including swimming, beachcombing, bowling, sewing, indoor gar-dening, reading, knitting, crocheting, fishing, boating, outdoor gardening and foremost genealogy.

Survivors include one brother: Thomas Marion Karr and over 250 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Dottie (Muirheid) Karr, 11 brothers: William Shirley, Charles Herbert, Wilbur Edwin, Floyd Franklin, Raymond Willis, Robert Emmett, John Mayo, Henry, Frank, Calvin Baker and Francis Eugene Karr and 2 sisters: Alice Louise Summers and Nell Karr.

Margie Elizabeth Hoke, 89 of Clinton, IL passed away 8:10 P.M. March 30, 2013 at Manor Court, Clinton, IL.

Eva I. Hayter, 89, of Lincoln, formerly of Beason, passed away Friday (March 29, 2013) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

No funeral is scheduled. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date in Keyes Cemetery, rural Beason. Peasley Funeral Home, Lincoln, is in charge of arrangements.

Eva I. Howen was born July 28, 1923, in North Dakota, the daughter of John and Olive Howen. She married Robert Hayter on Aug. 15, 1942. He preceded her in death in November 2003.

She is survived by three daughters, Joyce Gleason, Lincoln; Jacquelyn (Michael Craig) Zaffiri, Bloomington; and Peggy (Mike) Tackett, Lincoln. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Eva was the owner of Bob and Eva’s Café in Beason from 1957 until 1967. Later, Eva’s love of painting became a career as well as a pastime.

She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Eva’s family would like to thank the staff of Christian Village Nursing Home for the care and love that was shown to Eva during her stay at the home.

Clarence F. “Fred” Benedict, 91, of Lincoln passed away Friday (March 29, 2013) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

The funeral for Mr. Benedict will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Peasley Funeral Home, Lincoln.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 263, Lincoln.

Clarence Frederick Benedict was born Sept. 19, 1921, in McLean, the son of James Adam and Mary Ellen Wilson Benedict. He married Ada Mae Kinney. He later married Alzada Davenport on June 6, 1970. She preceded him in death.

Fred is survived by three sons, Gene Benedict, Wheeling; Dean Benedict, California; and Robert (Dorothy) Benedict, Lincoln; one daughter, Theresa (Charles) Funk, McLean; three stepsons, Darrell (Pat) Robertson, Mason City; Johnny Robertson, Santa Fe, N.M.; and Kenny (Alice) Robertson, Lincoln; two stepdaughters, Hazel Root, Lincoln, and Marjorie Gardner, Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Nora Emmons and Alice Comstock, both of Lincoln; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Carl Benedict; four sisters; nine brothers; one stepdaughter; and one stepson.

Fred served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the rank of seaman first class. He then worked as a journeyman union carpenter for 44 years, retiring in 1985.

 He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of American Legion Post 263 and Carpenters Union 568.

Bette Lou Grant, 89, of Green Valley, formerly of DeLand, passed away at 7:13 a.m. Thursday (March 28, 2013) at Mardell Manor of Green Valley.

Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, with Jeff Leeman officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Trigg & Calvert Chapel, DeLand.

Bette was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Pueblo, Colo., the daughter of Carl and Mary Mays. She married Charles William “Bill” Grant on March 19, 1948, in Monticello. He passed away Sept. 10, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Bill (Julie) Grant, Manito; and Bruce Grant, Austin, Texas. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Ryan Grant, Wendy Schweigert and Melanie Cunningham; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Lee Mays, Merced, Calif.; and one sister, Jeannie Brandeis, Merced, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter and five brothers and sisters.

Shirley Marie Lamb, native of Bement, Illinois entered into rest early evening on March 27, 2013. She was born in the family farm house just west of Bement on May 31, 1930. She was preceded in death by Mother, Lelah Lamb, Father, Harry Lamb and a sister who was lost at a very young age. She grew up and went onto Illinois State University and gained a Bachelor’s in Accounting with a minor in Physical Education. After college, she went on to work for Attorney Arnold Sievers as a Secretary until retirement. In her final years Shirl lived in Florida, The Sunshine State, as it could never be too warm for her. She leaves behind a family and several cousins who loved her very much. Beverly was born May 2, 1936 in Bement IL to Linzy and Nellie Pierce Corum. She married the love of her life Clifford Crowley on April 17, 1970 in Bement he preceded her in death on August 6, 1987.

She is survived by a Son Dale (Julie) Crowley Mahomet and their two sons Hunter and Colton Crowley also surviving a daughter Carolyn (Mike) Jent Fisher and their daughter Emma Jent, 3 brothers Gene Corum Bement, Jack (Sharon) Corum Arthur, and William (Mary Anne) Corum Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Robert and his wife Nancy Corum Bement and granddaughter Megan Jent Fisher.

Beverly retired from Patterson Dental in Champaign in 2006 and was able to travel and spend time with her family and friends. A sports fan all her life she loved the illini and could always be found in front of the TV on game day. She was able to live out her dream in 2008 when she was able to travel to the Rose Bowl to cheer on the Illini football team. Travel was something else that she got to experience in her retirement going a once in a life time trip to Hawaii with her oldest brother and yearly trips to Branson MO with her brother jack and his wife Sharon. She loved to spend time with her family and always loved to have people around her. She will be missed.

James was born Oct. 23, 1927, in Hillsboro, the son of Melvin and Mabel Irene Curry Moreland. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was a member of Argenta United Methodist Church. He retired from Phillips Pipeline after 29 years of service. After his retirement, he was a part-time realtor and held several other part-time jobs. He was an avid fisherman. He married Dorothy Irene Sanders on Aug. 6, 1950, in Hillsboro.

Surviving are his wife; children, David (Mary) Moreland of Chatham; Karon Moreland (Neal Primm) of Colmesneil, Texas; Sharon (Denny) Moore of Latham; Suzie (Mike) Bruels of Charleston; brothers and sisters, Betty Adden of Nokomis; Bill (Nancy) Moreland of Copperas Cove, Texas; Jerry (Donna) Moreland of Taylorville; sisters-in-law, Pat Moreland of Taylorville; Kathleen Moreland of Oklahoma; Lois Moreland of Florissant, Mo.; brother-in-law, Melvert Cordani of Pana; five grandchildren; one stepgrandson; two great-grandchildren.

Peggy was born May 2, 1953 in Sheldon, Missouri the daughter of James Hubert and Mary Elizabeth (Malcom) Thomas. She married Robert Houdeshell on April 8, 1971 in Sheldon, Missouri. He survives. Also surviving are her children Justin (Joan) Houdeshell of Mahomet, IL; Lorie (Joe) Frantz of Mattoon, IL; and Kami (Jeremy) Benson of Bement, IL. She also is survived by 9 grandchildren, sisters, Louise Olgren of Independence, MO; Freda Eliason of Brookfield, WI; Irene Barnhart of Raymore, MO; Betty Stoner of Pleasant Valley, MO; June Dobbins of Carthage, MO; and a brother, Jim Thomas of Stockton, MO. Mary Virginia Foster, 98, lifelong resident of the Clinton area, died at 4:53 a.m. Sunday (March 24, 2013) at Manor Court, Clinton.

She was born April 24, 1914, in Bellflower, daughter of Louis and Hattie Sprau Hiither. She married Grover Delmar Foster on Sept. 3, 1941, in Bellflower. He passed away Dec. 29, 2012.  

She is survived by one son, Glenn D. (Barbara) Foster, Crawfordsville, Ind.; two grandsons, Troy L. (Stacy) Mohr, Greenfield, Ind., and David (Cheryl) Foster, Tupelo, Miss.; one granddaughter,  Stacey Foster, Lake Mary, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Gage Foster, Taylor Jones, Trysten and Emily Mohr, and Courtney and Colten Smith; two great-great-granddaughters, Mikyla and Madalyn Coffman; sister, Marguerite Rude, Bradley; brother, Louis Hiither Jr., Oracle, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Bernice Pauley, Gibson City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Henry Hiither; brother-in-law, Wilbur Rude; brother- and sister-in-law, Chester and Lena Foster; brother- and sister-in-law, Bradley and Esther Campbell; and special niece, Barbara Rude.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Clinton.

She was a 67-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and she and Delmar were worthy matron and patron of the Bloomington Chapter 50.

Mary loved her friends and family dearly! She had a big heart and welcomed all! The more the merrier! She farmed in partnership with her husband for many years in the LeRoy, Armington and Wapella areas. They moved to Clinton when they retired in 1976.

Robert Lee Shannon, Heyworth, 70, passed away peacefully March 24, 2013, in Tucson, Ariz.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Shannon; granddaughter, Michelle Alvey; and his sister, Nanci Shannon Dyer.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Robert Shannon; parents, Porter and Alte Mae Dryer Shannon; his wife, Sandra Shannon; and his sister, Sharon Shannon Reynolds.

Robert was a graduate of Ellsworth High School and served in the U.S. Air Force at Whiteman Air Force Base, Warrensburg, Mo.

After his discharge, he became a tool and die maker, working at both General Electric and Caterpillar from which he received many patents for his work.

He was an avid sports fan, especially football. He loved being a grandfather as well as traveling, which is where he met and married Sandra. While married they resided in Melbourne, Australia.

He and his “Aussie” wife lived happily “down under” for 10 years traveling to several countries where he made lots of friends.

A private service will be planned to celebrate his life.

Wilma Lucille Drobisch died on March 24, 2013, in Frisco, Texas, where she has lived since 2011. Lucille was born on December 21, 1918, the daughter of Walter & Nancy Wright Heinle. She was a graduate of Argenta & Decatur public schools. Lucille received her degree of registered nursing at St. Johns School in Springfield, IL.

She married Edward C. Drobisch on August 24, 1940. She is a past president of the former Mound School PTA and life member of Illinois Congress of PTA; past president of Lamda Tau Delta sorority, PEO Chapter IF, Decatur, IL; past member of Junior Welfare Associate, and former board member of TB Association. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur.

Surviving are her son David and his wife Sue of Decatur; daughter Nancy Ruegge and husband Ron of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren Douglas Drobisch and wife Alice of Maryville, IL; Tim Drobisch of Decatur; Heather Ruegge Chen and husband Kaiyan of Frisco, Texas; and grandson Marcus Ruegge of Frisco. She is also survived by great grandchildren: Lauren, Hannah & Kate Chen and Nathan Drobisch.

Lucille & Ed enjoyed hiking during their winter months in Arizona. She enjoyed genealogy, history and had a great love of gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ed.

Inez was born August 24, 1929, in Warrick Country, the daughter of Lloyd and Martha Ellison. She married her high school sweetheart Garrell A. Leslie on April 19, 1947, in Boonville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2008.

Inez was a beautician for over 40 years in Maroa, Tuscola and Atwood. We are so thankful for the Christian love, kindness and giving mother than made her so precious to us. She was known for being such a wonderful cook and baker. Those who knew her knew there would always be a place at her table.

Surviving are her children: Rick (Cathy) Leslie of Glenarm, IL., Cynthia (Larry) Day of Decatur, IL., Donna (Steve) Fisher of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kathy Leslie of Indianapolis, IN; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her sister June (Robert) Scales of Chandler, IN also survives.

Ronald Stanley Runyen, 64, Maroa, died at 11:28 a.m. Saturday (March 23, 2013) at his family home, Maroa.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, with Ron Rector officiating. Burial will be at Maroa Cemetery, Maroa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ronald Runyen Memorial Fund.

He was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Decatur, son of Elmer S. “Fat” and Betty Ellen Vantries Runyen. He married Joyce Marie Good on Oct. 20, 1967, in Decatur. She passed away Aug. 10, 2005.

He is survived by one son, Tony Good, Maroa; one daughter, Ronda (Bill) Bradley, Joy; one sister, Betty Jane (Russ) Copher, Maroa; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was affiliated with Maroa Christian Church.

Ronald was an ASA softball umpire, past city council alderman and worked at Revere Copper & Brass Inc. in Clinton for 35 years. He also worked at the M&M Cafe in Maroa.  

Walter Ray Richner, 79, of Mt. Pulaski passed away on Saturday, April 20, 213 at home with his family at his bedside. He was born to Walter and Josephine Gardner Richner on October 25, 1933.

Ray graduated from the University of Illinois in 1955 then served two years in the United States Marines Corp.

He then returned to Chestnut to work the family farm until his retirement.

Ray is survived by his wife, Jo, of 58 years; son: Michael (Jennifer) of Mt. Pulaski, daughter: Leigh Ann (Mark) Whitson of Arcola; grandsons: Adam (Michelle) Whitson of Cibolo, Texas, Joshua (Jaimee) Whitson of Tuscola; Justin (Michelle) Richner of St. Louis, Mo.; great grandchildren: Ava and Beau Whitson and Lauren Whitson. his brother: Francis Neil (Maggie) Richner of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Darrell and Marvin, infant sister Betty Jo, ond one grandson Jason Richner.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut.

Following the service the family is asking friends to join them for a fellowship meal at the Chesnut family Restaurant at 5:00 p.m.

No Visitation is scheduled.

Maria Guadalupe Orozco, 67, Heyworth, died at 5:13 a.m. Tuesday (March 19, 2013) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

She was born June 26, 1945, in Momax, Zacatecas, Mexico, daughter of Alberto and Margarita M. Del Real Miramontes. She married Jose “Candelario” Orozco on Dec. 23, 1961, in Mexico.

Surviving are her husband of Heyworth; her father of Mexico; two sons, Jabier (Brooke) Orozco, Normal, and Eufemio (Dori) Orozco, Bloomington; six daughters, Martina Herrera, Delia (James) Fisk and Silbia (Richard) Miramontes, all of Heyworth; Rocio (Randy) Windle, Bloomington; Marisela Roof, Towanda; and Leticia Orozco, Bloomington; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Juan Antonio (Josefina) Miramontes, Mexico, and Adalberto (Lupe) Miramontes, Texas; and five sisters, Mercedes (Juan) Martinez, Texas; Elvira Estrada, Mexico; Candelaria (Jose) Correa, Bloomington; Elidia Miramontes, Texas; and Margarita (Gonzalo) Delgado, Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her mother; two sons, Juan Ignacio Orozco and Felipe Orozco; two brothers, Rafael del Rosario and Juan Antonio Miramontes; one sister, Cuca Miramontes; and one brother-in-law, Juan Ramon Estrada.

Maria was a homemaker and also enjoyed crafting needlepoint.

Thomas F. Cooper, 84, Clinton, died at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday (March 19, 2013) at Dr. John Warner Hospital, Clinton.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Clinton, with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wapella. He was born May 11, 1928, in Decatur, a son of Roy Cooper and Margaret (Johnson) Cooper. He married Della M. Bray on Feb. 19, 1950, in Wapella.

He is survived by his wife, Della M. Cooper, Clinton; children, Debra (Randy) Waks, Deane E. Cooper, Donna L. (Rich) Parker, Tom D. (Connie) Cooper and John A. (Marcia) Cooper, all of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Ryan Holt, Drew Duggins, Nick Massey, Ashton Duggins, Tyler Baker, Cassie Baker, Colton Cooper, Wyatt Cooper and Conor Cooper; half sisters, Sandy Priola, Naples, Fla., and Joanne (Grant) DeYoung, Sunset Beach, N.C.; half brother, Leroy (Joyce) Reif, Ocala, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Crystal Massey; and one great-granddaughter, Sydney Holt.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Clinton. Tom farmed all of his life. He was director and later an associate director for the DeWitt County Soil Conservation Office and DeWitt County Farm Bureau.

His family and farming were his life and he will be missed greatly.

Joseph L. Wilson, 93, Clinton, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday (March 18, 2013) at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. Benjamin Keller officiating. Interment will be at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Clinton Country Club Junior Golf Program, Clinton YMCA or Clinton Presbyterian Church.

He was born June 22, 1919, in Merna, a son of Channing Wilson and Mary Alice Marshall. He married Lois VanDyke  on Feb. 17, 1938, in Bloomington. She died Jan. 23, 2009.

He is survived by two sons, David (Jane) Wilson, Kingsland, Ga., and Steve (Karol) Wilson, Clinton; six grandchildren, Jim (Tonya) Wilson, Hartville, Mo.; Kristine (Scott) Stamp, Reed Springs, Mo.; Brody Wilson, Clinton; Brock Wilson, Clinton; Hunter Austin, Springfield, Mo.; and Amanda DeGuair, Kona, Hawaii; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Hess.

He was a member of Clinton Presbyterian Church  and a veteran of World War II.

After the war, Joe started working at the Shell gas station, which he owned and operated. He later opened Wilson’s Chrysler-Jeep in Clinton in 1953, which is celebrating its 60th year of business. Joe never retired.

He was a member of Clinton Country Club, Clinton Masonic Lodge, Clinton Elks Lodge and the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Joe was an avid golfer until 1992. He loved playing poker every Thursday night with his poker buddies, was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed reading.

Joe especially loved his family and spending time with them. His grandchildren lit up his life. 

Joe was the 2011 grand marshal of the Clinton Christmas Parade.

Darrell J. Semple, 82, Heyworth, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday (March 18, 2013) at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth, with the Revs. Richard Gray and Steve Barrow officiating. Burial will be at Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth, with military rites. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Darrell was born Sept. 6, 1930, at New Holland, a son of John T. and Lorene K. Langenbahn Semple. He married Katherine L. Colson on Oct. 15, 1949, in Lincoln. She died Dec. 29, 2006.

He is survived by two sons, David (Ann) Semple, Metamora, and Troy (Kelly) Semple, Heyworth; one daughter, Debra Nohl, Heyworth; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Semple, Decatur, and Donald E. (Barbara) Semple, New Holland; and one sister, Doris M. Kelly, Farmer City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Katherine L. Semple.

Darrell had been manager of Alexander Lumber Co., Normal, for 46 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Darrell was a life member of Carl E. Miller American Legion Post 624, Heyworth, and life member of Little Embry Rainey VFW Post 1559, Heyworth.

He enjoyed gardening and fishing trips to Red Lake, Ontario, Canada.

Fern Virginia Fisher, 94, of Monticello, formerly of Deland, passed away at 12:54 p.m., March 17, 2013 at Carle Hospital, Urbana. Fern was born on July 12, 1918 in Findlay, IL, the daughter of Luther and Olive (Kirby) Reedy. She married Thomas Warren Fisher on March 27, 1937 in Monticello. He passed away on September 15, 1975. Survivors include her son; Edward (Shirley) Fisher of Monticello, daughter; Charylene (John) Taylor of Monticello, grandchildren; Alan (Bernice) Fisher of Deland, Kim (Greg) Johnson of Monticello, great grandchildren; Matthew Fisher, Brittany Fisher, Megan Johnson, and great-great grandson; Auston Fisher. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 great granddaughter (Sarah Fisher), 4 brothers and 6 sisters. Fern retired from the Deland-Weldon School District in 1992 after working 37 years as a cook and a custo-dian. Fern also worked with her husband for several years at the Deland Tribune. Fern was a member of the Deland Christian Church, the Residence Council at Tatman Village where she had resided since 2007, and has been a member of the Rebekah Lodge since 1948. She served several years as a dispatcher for the Piatt County Senior Citizens Transportation Program and she loved to sew and quilt. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Deland Christian Church with Phil Hansen officiating. Gerald Wesley, 64 of Clinton, IL went home to be with our Lord Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital after complications from a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends.

        He was born January 7, 1949 in Litchfield, IL. He lived in Gillespie, IL until 1959 when the family moved to Alton, IL. Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Marquette High School and a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He graduated from Gem City Community College in 1973. On September 2, 1979, he married Susan Klinkert, daughter of the late Hal and Lucille Klinkert, at their family home. The remained there for the almost 34 years of marriage, raising their children; allowing them to run, romp and play – just be kids. He loved golf, cooking – specializing in spaghetti and barbeque sauce as well as country style breakfasts – all enjoyed by many over the years, coaching and watching softball and baseball and spending time with his family and loyal dog, Hal.

Leland B. Kingsboro, 97, of Monticello, formerly of Deland, passed away at 4:12 p.m., March 13, 2013 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Leland was born on April 27, 1915 in Deland, IL, the son of Newton B. and Fern B. (Borton) Kingsboro. He married Yvonne M. “Bonnie” Valentine on January 27, 1937 in Covington, IN. She passed away February 22, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers (Merwyn, Karl, and Gail) and 1 sister (Esther).

Leland was a retired farmer. For many years Leland enjoyed keeping in touch with his friends through his CB radio connections. He will be missed dearly by family and friends.

William Eugene Pontious, age 56, Monticello, passed away March 11, 2013 at 4:55 a.m. at Carle Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born April 2, 1956 in Urbana, one of four children, to Richard William Pontious and Imogene (Jones).

Surviving are his mother Imogene (Al) Gustafson of Monticello; wife Melissa (Sawlaw) of Monticello; children Melissa (Travis) Waller, Elise, and William of Monticello; grandchildren Ethan and Caden Waller of Monticello; brother Richard (Nancee) Pontious of White Heath; sister Diana (Victor) Orberson of White Heath; and brother Dennis Pontious of White Heath.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, beloved son Richard, and Shania, his treasured four-legged companion of many years.

Bill was a lifelong resident of central Illinois and an enthusiastic promoter of the Monticello area as an owner of the Pontious U-PIK Farm and a real estate and construction site developer.

Bill always put his family first and recently spent countless weekends travelling the country to his children’s sporting events.

Bill was also dedicated to his employees, young people, people in need, and animals. He gave second and third chances to people who wanted to work. He and his family hosted numerous foreign exchange students. He helped organize and deliver truckloads of supplies to victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. And, as friends smilingly recall, was rarely seen on a job site without his devoted dogs.

Ruth Ann Coon was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Tribby, Okla., the daughter of Arnold and Ann Derryberry Coon. She married James Hafley on Nov. 18, 1951. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Wayne A. Hafley, George A. Hafley, Sylvia M. Kindelberger, John W. Hafley, Rose M. Van Dyke, Docia M. Schrepfer, Marilyn G. Schrepfer and Carolyn J. Hafley; one sister, Darlene Driskill; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gary Coon and David Coon.

Ruth was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, Heyworth. She worked for the State of Oklahoma for 20 years.

Lulu Vivian Copenhaver passed away at the Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello, Illinois on March 8, 2013. She was 100 years of age.

Lulu was born on May 17, 1912 in a farmhouse just east of Galesville, Illinois where her parents, Walter Eugene and Florence (Pryke) Copenhaver, operated a large farm for 50 Years. They preceded her in passing. After her father’s retirement from farming in 1957, she moved with him to a house in Galesville, where she lived and cared for her father until his death in 1987. She remained in Galesville until June 2002 when she moved to Tatman Village in Monticello. In September 2009, Lulu moved to the Maple Point Supportive Living facility in Monticello. In January 2013, after a brief hospital stay, Lulu moved to the Nursing Home

Lulu graduated from Mansfield High School in the Class of 1930. She never married but was very close to her three nephews. Lulu learned to play the piano as a youth and, later in life, taught piano lessons to numerous young people. Lulu was also a Girl Scout leader for many years and is a cancer survivor. During the 1960’s, Lulu worked at Oehmke’s Grocery Store on the Square in Monticello until it closed. She was a life-long member of the Galesville United Methodist Church (formerly Evangelical United Brethren) until it closed. Lulu attended the Church at Bethel just northwest of Galesville until she moved to Monticello in 2002. Lulu held several church positions and was a leader in Summer Bible School.

Lulu is survived by her sister, Atha Vera Tabor of Mt. Clemens, Michigan and three nephews: Robert Paul Tabor (and wife Emma) also of Mt. Clemens, Michigan; Rodney Steven Tabor ( and wife Sharon) of Emmett, Michigan; and Michael Eugene Tabor (and wife Candy) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

Lulu loved life and loved people in general. She was an upbeat individual and was always willing to lend a hand to any who needed it. She brought joy, companionship and comfort to those who were fortunate to know her.

Funeral services for Lulu will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello with Pastor George Brady officiating. Viewing will be held one hour before the service. Interment will be in the Mansfield Cemetery immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith in Action of Monticello.

Mildred Edgecombe Baldwin, 90, of Warrensburg, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Hickory Point Christian Village.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March II, 2012 with visitation one hour prior to service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL. Pastor Wray Offermann will officiate.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 10th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Warrensburg/Latham Education Foundation.

Mildred Eileen Bollhorst, a life-long resident of Macon County, IL was born on October 22, 1922 to John and Edna Bollhorst. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Decatur.

She married Samuel Edgecombe on September 16, 1945 in Decatur, IL who preceded her in death in April 1983. She married Howard Baldwin on March 31, 1990 in Decatur. He preceded her in death in December 2000.

Millie was an L.P.N. for Dr. Sam Holtzman in Warrensburg. She volunteered for the American Red Cross at many local blood drives and also volunteered at Lincoln Manor. She was a member of the Harmony Home Extension Unit of Macon County and served as a 4-H Leader for several years.

She is survived by her children: John (Ann) Edgecombe of Jacksonville, FL, Roger (Karen) Edgecombe of Maroa, and, Diane (Robert) Daggett of Maroa; six grandchildren: Jason (Kathryn) Edgecombe of Atlanta, GA, Adam (Laura) Edgecombe of Jacksonville, FL, Katherine (Clay) Sellmeyer of Maroa, Amy Edgecombe of Decatur, Lindsey (Curtis) Wise of Decatur, Elizabeth (Matt) Goldman of Maroa; nine greatgrandchildren: Jay, Mills and Madelyn Edgecombe of Atlanta, Holden Edgecombe of Jacksonville, Benjamin, Jack and Luke Sellmeyer of Maroa, and Cooper and Levi Wise of Decatur. She leaves her brothers: Paul (Shirley) Bollhorst of Moweaqua, Earl (Wanda) Bollhost of Decatur, Jim (Ruth, deceased) Bollhorst of Clinton, and Kenny, deceased, (Betty) Bollhorst of Decatur and sister-in-law Lillian Edgecombe of Argenta along with many nieces and nephews.

Millie enjoyed time with her family, sewing, gardening, baking and traveling with friends and family.

Virginia Alline Wickenhauser, 90 of Clinton, IL passed away 5:30 A.M. March 4, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL. She waits for us with our maker.

  Virginia was born July 12, 1922 in LeRoy, IL the daughter of John and Lillie Maud (Walls) Yocum, she was one of ten siblings, her brother: Sylvester Abraham Yocum survives. She married Charles Wickenhauser December 24, 1961, in Clinton, IL, he passed away in 2001. Other survivors include her children: Patricia Bradley, Clinton, IL, Ann (Jeff) Taylor, Hallsville, IL, David (Debbie) Peavler, Lane, IL and Stan (Gayle) Peavler, Clinton, IL. Also she leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sons and 2 grandchildren.

  Virginia retired from Revere Copper and Brass Company in Clinton, IL after many years of service. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed canning and preparing food and was always active with her numerous family members. For the past 20 years she was a member of The Challenging Times crossword puzzle company. She donated items and money to the St. Labre Indian School in Montana.

  Everyone who knew her could always rely on her caring nature and helpful ways. Her spunk and softness will always be remembered.
