Shirley Ann Troxel of DeWitt

Shirley Ann Troxel, 73, of DeWitt, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 30, 2015) at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.

A time to celebrate her life will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.

Shirley was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Ransom, Kan., the daughter of Robert I. and Anna Lucille Offutt Squires. She married James “Dugan” Troxel on Oct. 19, 1968, in Decatur.

Survivors include her son, Rick Reynolds, Wapella; stepdaughter and best friend, Tawnya Troxel Fogarty, Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, Robert Squires, Decatur; sister, Lois Ruth (Bernie) Jackson, Lake Wales, Fla.; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, James “Dugan” Troxel; mother, Lucille; stepfather, Virgil Downes; and son, Larry Reynolds Jr.

She retired from Revere Copper & Brass Inc. She and Dugan loved their country life, fishing, riding motorcycles, travel and family. They enjoyed many great adventures during their life together and were devoted companions.

Kathryn Bell Strohl of Monticello

Kathryn Bell Strohl, 95, of Monticello, Illinois passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Piatt County Nursing Home.

She was born January 2, 1920 in Philo, Illinois the daughter of Media and Truman Cord. She married Charles C. Strohl, who preceded her in death.

Kate proudly volunteered at the Piatt County Nursing Home. For 30 years her caring personality and warming smile lifted the spirits of both the residents and the nursing staff.

Kate is survived by her daughters, Judith Kay Fruendt (Dave) of Monticello, Illinois, Sonia Lyn Hall (Tom) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Sandra Lee Archey (Gary) of Clinton, Illinois. Also surviving are her 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and 2 devoted nieces, Linda Reed of Springfield, Illinois and Helen West of Monticello, Illinois.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello, Illinois. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at the Bement Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Piatt County Nursing Home for their caring love and support.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Association and the Piatt County Nursing Home.

Mary Marcum of LeRoy

Mary Catherine Marcum, 84, of LeRoy, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Sunday (June 28, 2015) at LeRoy Manor, LeRoy.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, LeRoy. The Rev. Eric Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; the Community Cancer Center, Normal; LeRoy Fire Department; LeRoy Emergency Ambulance Service; or LeRoy Police Department.

She was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Bloomington, to John and Bertha Flaherty Cahill. She married Roy E. Marcum on July 2, 1949, in Bloomington. He passed away Feb. 28, 2009.

Survivors include her four children, Sam (Tina) Marcum, Bloomington; Sonia (Anthony Tyus) Marcum, Hinsdale; Tim (Linda) Marcum, LeRoy; and Bill (Joe Goschy) Marcum, Palatine; five grandchildren, Jeremiah Trimble, LeRoy; Lacey Howard, LeRoy; Sammie (Chris) Macpherson, Normal; T.J. Marcum, LeRoy; and Candyce Marcum, Bloomington; and four great-grandchildren, Lexie Trimble, Clinton; Finley Howard and Landon Howard, both of LeRoy; and Olivia Macpherson, Normal.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and twin granddaughters, Beth and Katie Marcum.

Mary graduated from Trinity High School and worked at Woolworths, where she met her husband.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, LeRoy.

Mary enjoyed cooking and baking, which included her sugar cookies, ice cream, milkshakes and “Pie Friday." She also enjoyed driving through the country to look for deer; movies; purses; slot machines; and crocheting. Mary crocheted almost 100 prayer shawls.

Mary was a kind, gentle and sweet lady who loved God and family. She was a mother and grandmother to many. She had an innocence and wisdom about her that made her a hoot with her one-liners. Everyone who met Mary loved her.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Sriratana, OSF Audiology, Marilyn Woolridge and the people at LeRoy Manor, where she had more friends than she ever dreamed.

Robert C. Johnson of Bement

Robert C. Johnson, 71 of Bement, IL., passed away at 2:26 P.M., on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Prescence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Roux – Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., on Monday, June 29, 2015, also at the funeral home. Burial with military honors by the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620, will be in the Bement Township Cemetery, Bement, IL. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bob was born on May 5, 1944 in Hardinsburg, KY., a son of Charles and Mildred Ellington Johnson. He married Brenda Benson on May 14, 1982 in Decatur, IL., and she survives of Bement. Surviving are two sons; Robert Benson of Bement, IL., and Daren Benson of Lincoln, IL., as well as 3 grandchildren; Ryli Benson, Ryan Durbin and Shae White. He was preceded in death by both parents.

Bob was a United States Army Veteran, and worked for many years for the Mueller Company, Decatur, IL. He graduated from High School from Macon High School. He loved working outside around his house, and hunting and fishing.

Jo Ellen Maske of Mount Pulaski

Jo Ellen Maske, 77, of Mt. Pulaski passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015 in Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski.

Jo Ellen was born on September 17, 1937 in Humboldt, IL the daughter of Robert W. and Hazel Katherine (Fellows) Jones. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Masters degree from Illinois State University. She was an English Teacher for Mt. Pulaski School District Unit 23.  She was a member the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut, IL, a lifetime member of the NEA, and she served as photography superintendant at the Logan County Fair for over twenty years. She enjoyed reading, photography, and spending time with her family. She married Robert Leland Maske on June 16, 1957 in Chestnut, IL.

Surviving are her husband, Robert; sons, Michael Maske (Lynnette) of Elkhart, IL; William Maske (Barbara) of Mt. Pulaski; Steven Maske (Andrea) of Elgin, IL; Robert Maske of Mt. Pulaski, IL; daughter, Kellie Hanselman (Greg) of Monticello, IL; brother, Wesley Jones (Synda) of Fort Meyers, FL; sister, Carol Tulo (Steve) of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Katie; Sally; Thomas; Alison; Austin; Audrey; Daniel; Matthew; Hannah; Sarah; Jacob; Andrew; Luke; Noah; and great grandchildren, Anna; Elyse; Emma; Elliot; Eva; and Vivian.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Jones.

Funeral Service to celebrate Jo Ellen’s life will be 11 AM Thursday, June 25, 2015 in Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut, IL. Visitation will be 9-11 AM Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery in Latham, IL. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran School in Mt. Pulaski, IL.

Betty Jane Ploch of Argenta

Betty Jane (Fassino) Ploch, 77, of Argenta, IL passed away on June 21, 2015 with her loving family by her side at her residence.

Funeral services will be 10 AM, Wednesday June 24, 2015 at Garver Brick Church, 5280 Garver Church Rd., Decatur, IL with Pastor Don Long, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County, A Small Hand – Piatt County Infant Needs and Diapers, or Care Van Helps.

Betty was born on April 9, 1938 in Standard, IL the daughter of Dominic and Mary (Sweezey) Fassino. She married Donald B. Ploch on January 20, 1955 in Stuttgart, AR and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; sons: Phillip (Maria), Asheville, NC; Brian, Argenta, IL; Kevin (Cindy), Fairfield, TX; and Arric (Mary), Wentzville, MO; daughters: Brenda (Shawn) Ploch Reeves, Cisco, IL and Donnette (Renee) Ploch, Champaign, IL.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Victoria (Matt) Lopez, Meaghann (Seth) Reeves, Stephen Ploch, Jennifer Ploch, Joseph (Amanda) Ploch, Nathan (Casey) Reeves, Jennifer Bolanos, Zackary Ploch, Madison Ploch, and Ellie Ploch; six great-grandchildren: Jonathan Segovia, Lane Silar, Katlynn Ploch, Addison Floyd, Benjamin Reeves, and Kyle Ploch.

Betty worked as a school bus driver for the Argenta-Oreana school district for 20 years. She loved to garden, grow flowers and read. Her greatest joy was family get togethers and family vacations, as she loved her family dearly. She also loved animals and will be missed by dogs Lola, Senna and Wallace.

Special thanks to the sister I never had and best friend, Bobby Jasper – thank you for all the good and bad times we shared. North Birthday Club for the fellowship and Dr. James Bock for caring for this tough old bird. Thank you to Dr. M. Qureshi, Our Dialysis Queen Denise Dexheimer, Dr. Kairouz, Dr. Tarter, The Cancer Center, DMH and to all the wonderful nurses for their kindness to our mother.

Tony R. Small of LeRoy

Tony R. Small, 51, of LeRoy, passed away peacefully at 1:15 a.m. Sunday (June 21, 2015) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no service. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.

Tony was born April 6, 1964, to Norman and Mary Ann Iler Small.

He is survived by his father, Norman Small. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Tony was an avid sports fan. He loved to grill and hang out with his friends. He was a loving son and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

Yvonne Shallenberger of Clinton

Yvonne Shallenberger, 78, Clinton, passed away Saturday (June 20, 2015) at Manor Court, Clinton.

A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. Samantha Keller and the Rev. Benjamin Keller officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to DeWitt County’s Angel Tree or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Yvonne was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Perry County, Miss., the daughter of Bilbo and Pauline Steel Prine. She married Ralph E. “Shorty” Shallenberger on Feb. 25, 1956, in Poplarville, Miss. Shorty passed away July 1, 2000.

She is survived by three children, Charolette (Kent) Holland, Kenney; Ralph E. Shallenberger Jr., Bloomington; and Vickie (Curt) Harbach, Clinton; six grandchildren, Kristen, Amy, Jaclynn, Kathryn, Ryan and Carson; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane Shows and Sylvia Weatherford, both of Richton, Miss., and Billie Clark, Petal, Miss.; and brothers, Carlton Prine, Richton, Miss., and Wayne Prine, Seminary, Miss.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Yvonne worked at Crestview Nursing Home for 27 years and volunteered at Washington Grade School for five years. She loved her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren and tending to her yard and beautiful rose bushes.

Mary Donna Fannin of Heyworth

Mary Donna Fannin, 73, of Sheridan, passed away June 19, 2015, at Presence Mercy Medical Center, Aurora.

She was born March 1, 1942, in Heyworth, the daughter of Estes and Mary Bartels Colclasure.

Donna was united in marriage Aug. 13, 1960, to Ronald E. Fannin, and they spent the next 54 happy years together. She was formerly employed for many years by CTS Knights in Sandwich. She enjoyed cooking and going to garage sales. She was devoted to her family and loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donna had recently found a new love of her life, her dog, Daisy.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Fannin, Sheridan; her children, Tony (Dawn LaGow) Fannin and Bill Fannin, both of Sheridan; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Brad Hardekopf) Fannin, Sandwich, and Steven (Brooke Alexander) Fannin, Sheridan; her great-grandchildren, Kolter and Karlie Hardekopf; three brothers, Clarence (Alma) Colclasure, Rockford; Robert (Fern) Walden, Bloomington; and Richard (Martie) Walden, Hazelwood, Mo.; sister, Doris (Stephen) Fincham, Towanda; as well as eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Estes Colclasure; her mother, Mary Colclasure Walden; stepfather, Frank Walden; her brother, William Colclasure; and her grandson, Jeremy Fannin.

A celebration of Donna’s life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at 2896 N. 41st Road, Sheridan.

Mark E. Dingman Sr of Oreana

Mark E. Dingman Sr., 57 of Oreana, IL passed away on Friday (June 19, 2015) in his residence.

A private family burial will be held at a later date at Long Point Cemetery, Niantic. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mark was born on April 19, 1958 in Decatur, IL the son of Homer D. and Maxine (Corwley) Dingman. He married Madeline Vieceli on November 22, 1986. He worked as a Foreman for Central Illinois Coatings, Inc. for over 20 years and also worked in Security for Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Surviving is his son: Mark E. Dingman, Jr. of Oreana, IL; sister: Christina (Marc) Doty of Decatur; adopted daughter: Brittany Williams and her sons Christian Boyd and Ivan Gist of Decatur; nephews: James (Alice) Dingman of Kennedale, TX and Steve Dingman of Corpus Christi, TX; very special friend: Robert Willis of Decatur; special friend: Christina Ellis of Decatur; close friend: Jacob Lucas Meinders of Niantic, IL; nephew: Preston Zientara of Decatur; nieces: Jayme Scheibly of Champaign, IL and CiCi Scheibly and son Leio of Warrensburg, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers (Charles, David and Richard) and two infant twin sisters.
