Marie Mitchell Cavanaugh, 95, of Monticello, passed away at 4:55 p.m., April 19, 2018 at Fair Havens Christian Village, Decatur.

 

Marie was born on February 26, 1923 in Reeves, LA to Steven and Ella (Seily) Isreal. She was one of seven girls. She married Marshal R. ‘Mitch’ Mitchell on December 22, 1945 in Kankakee, IL. He passed away February 19, 2006. She married Jim Cavanaugh on April 28, 2012.

 

Marie is survived by her husband, Jim Cavanaugh of Monticello; daughter, Melissa Mitchell of Monticello; sons, Marty Mitchell (Vicky) of Peoria, Kevin Mitchell (Jayne) of Portland, OR, Mark Mitchell (Kurt) of Tucson, AZ; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, son Steven, grandson Matthew, and six sisters.

 

Marie was a housewife. She graduated from Reeves High School, attended School of Nursing, Shreveport, LA, and Parkland College. Marie was a member of the Centerville United Methodist Church, Faith in Action, Centerville United Methodist Women, and was a volunteer at the Piatt County Nursing Home. She also knitted many scarves for the Provena Mitten Tree Project. She loved people, had many friends, and was kind to everyone. Marie will be remembered for all the cards and notes she sent and for the many good deeds she did that no one knows about.

 

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello with Rev. Cindy Rettig and Rev. Gary Fairchild officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery.

 

Memorial donations may be made to the Centerville United Methodist Church.
