Clayton D. Rhodes

Clayton D. Rhodes 80 of Clinton, IL passed away 6:24 A.M. August 29, 2022 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

 

Graveside services will be 11 AM on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

 

Clayton was born September 19, 1941 in St. Charles, MO the son of Lowell and Margie (Garland) Rhodes. He married Dorothy L. West.

 

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. Rhodes, Clinton, IL, children, Clayton D. Rhodes, Jr., Clinton, IL; Dorothy (Jim) Harrold, Clinton, IL, and grandson, JT Harrold, Clinton, IL, siblings, twin brother, Clinton (Bev) Rhodes, Midland City, IL, and sisters, Barbara (Larry) Luster, Clinton, IL, Elizabeth (Roger) Hendrix, Crowley, TX, Marilyn Wall, Burleson, TX, Margie (Rick) Kallmayer, Burleson, TX, and much-loved nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beverly Jane Rhodes.

 

Clayton graduated from Ramsey High School. He worked at Revere Copper & Brass (Clinton, IL), Lehn & Fink (Lincoln, IL), Olin Fabricated Metal Products (Bloomington, IL), and Mechanical Devices, Co. (Bloomington, IL). In 1999, he took an early retirement to serve as butler, chauffeur, and Super-Grandpa to 6-month-old grandson, JT Harrold.

 

He loved bowling and was a volunteer youth bowling coach. Clayton was a Ford enthusiast and an amateur auto mechanic…both hobbies that he enjoyed sharing with his son. He also loved gardening and helping his wife with her quilting.

Dennis E. Carter 63 of Weldon, IL passed away 1:25 A.M. August 29, 2022 at Manor Court Clinton, IL.

 

Graveside services will be 10 AM Saturday, September 3, 2022 at DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, IL with Jim Kilson officiating. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

Dennis was born October 7, 1958 in Clinton, IL the son of Lloyd E. and Pansy Ida Olive (Clark) Carter.

 

Survivors include his son, Jon (Amy) Carter, Anderson, SC, three grandchildren, Austin, Dallas, and Damien Carter, along with his sister, Cheryl Bolby, Bloomington, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Phyllis Jeannine and Karen Colleen.

 

Patricia Ann Buchanan

Patricia Ann (West) Buchanan, 83, of Decatur, IL passed away 2:53 PM August 27, 2022 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

 

Graveside Services will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, September 2, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Roger Strubhar officiating. There will be no visitation. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

 

Memorials may be directed to an animal rescue/shelter of choice.

 

Patty was born on August 13, 1939 in Clinton, IL the daughter of William E. and Twila L. (Long) West. She was the oldest of nine siblings.

 

She was a graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 1957. Over the course of her life, Patty worked for K-Mart and Walmart in Decatur and Mt. Zion.

 

Survivors include her son, William Cook; daughter, Jamie (Russell) Snoke, Mt. Zion, IL; son, Rodney Buchanan, Decatur, IL; along with two sisters, four brothers, and many other family members left to cherish her memory.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Randy Buchanan, one sister, Emily Evans, and one brother, John West.

 

She enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, gardening, canning, reading the Bible and sewing. Patty was a great conversationalist and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She loved her family and had a special love for her two cats, Sassy & Kitty.

Peggy J. Haycraft

Peggy J. Haycraft, 69, of Normal, IL passed away 3:50 PM, August 23, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and Dementia.

 

Services will be held at 12:00 PM Monday, August 29, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Pastor Paul Weber officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

 

Peggy Jean Holland was born October 2, 1952 in Clinton, IL to Presly and Virginia (Wene) Holland of Kenney, IL.

 

She attended Kenney Elementary School and Clinton High School, graduating in 1970. Later she finished her degree in Sociology from Illinois State University.

 

She married Rex Haycraft May 1, 1971 in Wapella, IL. They later divorced.

 

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Rae (Chad) Weber, Fairbury, IL and Crystal Haycraft, Normal, IL; grandchildren, Jordyn (Tray Mitchell) Weber and Ethan Weber, both of Fairbury, IL; great-grandson Leo Mitchell; siblings, Bonnie (Vic) Buraglio, Champaign, IL, Dan (Mary) Holland, Kenney, IL; four nephews, two nieces, and many cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Peggy retired from ISU Arts and Sciences Department in the Deans Office on December 31, 2013 after 25 years.

Kathy S. Clifton, 65, of Clinton, IL passed away August 21, 2022 at 11:18 AM at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Kathy was born April 17, 1957 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Clarence and Janice (Green) Matthews.

 

Survivors include her children, Phillip Matthew Johnson, Clinton, IL, Bradly Andrew Johnson, Wapella, IL, and Jacqueline Ann Jones, Mahomet, IL; nine grandchildren; one sister, Ann Powers, Clinton, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was predeceased by her parents and one brother Kent D. Matthews.

 

Kathy loved to garden, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, playing cards, fishing and boating; but most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends. Kathy will be missed by all who knew her.

Judith "Judy" Ann Shaw

Judith “Judy” Ann Shaw 81 of Clinton, IL passed away 5:56 PM August 13, 2022 at Copper Creek Cottages, Lincoln, IL, surrounded by her family and her dear friend Karen Rice. The family thanks Karen for her sacrificial love and guidance to the family.

 

Judy was born September 27, 1940 in Clinton, IL, the daughter of Richard N. and Arvetta E. (Radcliffe) Taylor. Judy was preceded in death by her parents. She married Bob Leonard Shaw in Clinton, IL on September 26, 1959. Bob died in 2019.

 

Survivors include her children Robert Reece Shaw, Heyworth, IL; granddaughter, Savannah Elsa Shaw, Heyworth, IL; former daughter-in-law and Savannah’s mother, Tricia Shaw; and Lori Ann (Scotty) May, Wapella, IL.

 

Judy was a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton for 62 years. Judy was active in many ministries at FCC all those years. She had a great passion for teaching in the Lord Led Ladies for 32 years. Judy also had a lifelong passion for uplifting people in need, and as a gifted and prolific writer, and she wrote letters and cards many hours each week. She devoted her life to serving and helping others in the U.S. and abroad.

 

Judy was a beloved mother, had more friends than can be counted—welcoming and warm to everyone she met. She was a devoted woman of faith, caring and compassionate to everyone she touched. Judy had a great sense of humor, full of joy, truly genuine and always had a smile.

 

Judy spent a lot of time baking and her creations were cherished by many. Judy loved nature, working outdoors, and spending time at their family cabin. She loved watching wildlife and was always busy with outdoor activities and projects.

 

Services will be 11 AM, Friday, August 19, 2022 at the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL with Cody Monkman officiating. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the church.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Browy

Mary Browy 91 of Clinton, IL formerly of St. Francis, WI passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Luther Oaks, Bloomington, IL.

 

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2022 in the Family Life Center at the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL with Cody Monkman officiating with a luncheon following. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL formed arrangements.

 

Mary was born March 16, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the daughter of George and Amalya (Hudi) Ralyan.  She was married for 62 years to Raymond Browy who predeceased her.

 

Mary is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Steve) Stephens, Clinton, IL and Shery (Rick) Honeyager, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and dear sister, Kristin Osiecki, South Milwaukee, WI.

 

Mary loved her family and friends and enjoyed crafting and libraries.

Reatha D. Cox

Clinton -- Reatha D. Cox, 59, of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Graveside Services for Reatha will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Clinton. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Reatha Diane Henderson was born on November 12, 1962, in Lincoln, the daughter of Richard Owen and Agnes Nola Wickenhauser Henderson.

Reatha is survived by her daughters: Toni (John) Plotke, Amanda (Miguel Cazares) Cox, and Breanna (Gavin) Burton; her life companion, Dereck “Doug” Cox; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Pam Bannister, Kim (Charles) Davenport, Bill Veff, Mike (Kelly) Henderson and Katherine (Scott) Burns.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one granddaughter, and two sisters: Carol Armstrong and Linda McBenge.

Reatha attended Clinton High School. She last worked at the Hot Spot as a bartender. She loved anything about John Wayne and elephants. She was a 10-year breast cancer survivor.

Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer.

David Pope, Jr.

David Pope, Jr., 93 of Maroa, IL passed away 1 PM August 8, 2022 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Libertyville, IL.

 

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday, August 12, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, IL with Pastor Mike Larson officiating. Burial will follow in Maroa Cemetery, Maroa, IL. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the funeral home.

 

David was born April 23, 1929 in Forsyth, IL the son of Davie and Cressie (Hupp) Pope. He married Shirley Ann Wilson on June 28, 1958 in Maroa, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pope, Maroa, IL; children, Mike (Lindsay) Pope, Gurnee IL, and Deb (Meghan) Pope, Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren:  Allison, Charlotte, Henry, Payton, and Lincoln; and two sisters:  Betty Six, Paris, KY, and Carol Wilbur, Forsyth, IL.

 

David was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Gilbert L. Rubenacker

Gilbert L. Rubenacker, 86, of Midland City, IL passed away 9:20 A.M. August 5, 2022 at his family residence.

 

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, August 12, 2022 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney, IL with Ernie Harvey Jr. officiating. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Gilbert was born July 23, 1936 in Macon County, IL the son of Albert and Flossie (Lowery) Rubenacker. After his father passed away when Gilbert was two months old, he was raised by his mother and step-father, William J. Huffman. Gilbert married Marilyn Clark on July 14, 1957 in Kenney, IL. She passed away October 24, 2005.

 

Survivors include his children Jeff Rubenacker, New Holland, IL and Lori Rubenacker, Midland City, IL; daughter-in-law Chris Rubenacker Midland City, IL; four grandchildren Amy Rubenacker, Greg (Dana) Rubenacker, Cory (Stacey) Rubenacker, and Eric (Hillary) Rubenacker; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; brother John (Pat) Huffman, Midland City, IL; sister Carol Geddes, Midland City, IL; and two sisters-in-law Edith Huffman and Doris Huffman.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Steven M. Rubenacker, four brothers and two sisters.

 

Gilbert was a retired carpenter and was very involved in stock car racing.

Robert L. "Odie" Sloat III

Robert L. “Odie” Sloat III, 43 of Wapella, IL passed away 5:26 PM August 5, 2022 in rural Clinton, IL.

Robert was born March 8, 1979 in Normal, IL the son of Robert Lee “Lee Bob” Sloat, Jr. and Debbie Mann. He married Irene Gaddis, July 10, 2004 in Clinton, IL and found his other life partner, Kim Queen in 2012.

 

Survivors include his wife, Irene Sloat and life partner, Kim Queen, Wapella, IL; children, Trentyn (Mylee) Queen, Clinton, IL, Jackson Queen, Wapella, IL, Lilian Queen, Wapella, IL; siblings, Shanon Evans, MS, Jake (SeAnna) Sloat, DeWitt, IL, Spring Sloat, Clinton, IL, Andy Sloat, Clinton, IL; father, Robert Lee “Lee Bob” (Janet) Sloat, Jr, Clinton, IL; mother, Debbie Mann, Clinton, IL, stepfather, Mike Mont, Waynesville, IL; mother-in-law, Jeannie Gaddis, Bloomington, IL; uncle, Vernon “Lumpy” (Susan) Vinson, Clinton, IL; along with special cousins, Jesse Sloat and Kálee Maiden and many nieces, nephews, and some amazing friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Pat and V.V. Vinson; paternal grandfather, Robert Sloat;  father-in-law, Howard Gaddis; maternal grandparents, Eileen & Skip Mann; uncle, J.T. Sloat.

 

Odie worked at Equipment City in Clinton, IL.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

George Harvey Edwards

 

George Harvey Edwards, 94, of DeLand, IL passed away 8:30 PM August 4, 2022, at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL.

 

Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday August 13, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand, IL with Virgil Dasher officiating. Burial will follow at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.

George was born December 23, 1927 in Goose Creek Township, DeLand, IL the son of Ward Wellington “Buck” and Inez Marie (Marvel) Edwards.  He married Wilma Lee Harris on November 17, 1957, in Monticello, IL. She passed away September 19, 2021.

 

Survivors include his children:  Leanne (Dan) McMillen, Greenwood, IN; Gail Dawn Edwards, Lake Stevens, WA; and Lisa (Julie Floyd) Edwards, Clinton, IL; five grandchildren:  Ryan, Shane, Mikaela, Isaac, and Derrick; one brother, Hobart (Norma) Edwards, Mahomet, IL; and one sister, Cleta Dotson, Santa Maria, CA.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

 

George was a US Army veteran serving from November 1950 to November 1952 and a 68-year member of the DeLand American Legion.  George was also a member of the DeLand Christian Church.  He drove a school bus for the Blue Ridge and DeLand school districts totaling 50 years.  George was an Eagle Scout and a Scout Master as well as a 70-year member of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge in DeLand and then Farmer City, IL.  He also served as a DeLand volunteer fire fighter and trustee.

Michael Robert Eberhardt

Michael Robert Eberhardt, 55, of Louisville, KY. passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022 in Louisville, KY with family at his side.

 

Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 5, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wapella, IL. Visitation will be 12 – 1 PM Friday at the funeral Home

 

Michael was born July 23, 1966 in Clinton, IL the son of Charles H. Eberhardt and Kathryn J. Rutledge, along with his step-father, George W. Rutledge.

 

Survivors include his mother, wife of 31 years, Lisa, three daughters, Rachael Ball, Walton, KY; Hope (Marvin) Sosa and Amber (Dustin) Wallace, Louisville, KY, eight grandchildren, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather.

 

Michael joined the U.S. Marines following high school. He was a member of the AmVets Post 270 in Bloomington, IL. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and most anything outdoors.
