Charles Jefferson Ware

Charles "Pete" Jefferson Ware, 79, died 3:38 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, accompanied by family, at Liberty Village, Clinton, IL.

 

He was born May 7, 1942 in the family home on Main Street in Clinton, IL to Orval D. "Jake" and Dorothy E. Sweazy Ware. Pete married Nelda Pearl Anderson September 5, 1964,; she proceeded him in death February 3, 2007. He was also proceeded in death by his parents.

 

He is survived by his three children: daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Tarbox, Clinton, and sons, Christopher, Clinton and Curtis (Amy), Mahomet; three grandchildren: Mylee Tarbox, Clinton, Jonathan Ware and Anthony Ware of Mahomet.

 

After high school, Pete went into the U.S. Army, ultimately, serving as a Meteorological Observer in Greenland. Upon return home, he worked at Wallace Press/Computer Services until his retirement in 1997.

 

Pete enjoyed working on cars and tinkering on anything with a motor. He was always a fan of watching any kind of car race. He rode motorcycles over the years and thoroughly enjoyed hunting.

 

He was a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as the W.D. Boise Council District Leader for Advancement for several years. Pete had been a member of the DeWitt County Sportsman's Club.

 

All his life, Pete had a special love for dogs. The last dog he had, Zeus, was a rescue and they couldn't have been better suited for each other. In that spirit, the family requests any memorials be made to 2nd Chance For Pets in Clinton.

 

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, IL with military honors by the Crang-Bennett American Legion Post 103. Evergreen Cremation Services is honored to assist the family.

Sasha Cook

Sasha Gale Cook, 28 of Bloomington, IL, passed away 12:41 AM June 22, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

 

A memorial service will be at a later date. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

 

Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

 

Sasha was born November 27, 1992 in Titusville, PA the daughter of Timothy and Heidi (Gettig) Cook.

 

Survivors include her parents, Tim and Heidi Cook, Clinton, IL; siblings, Sean Cook, Normal, IL, Chance Cook, Clinton, IL, and Tabatha Cook, Clinton, IL; along with her cat, she loved deeply, Luna.

 

Sasha worked for Securitas Security Services as a security guard at Westminster Village in Bloomington, IL. She loved reading, and horse riding and was working towards becoming a veterinarian technician.

Jessie Mae Monkman

Jessie Mae Monkman, 80, of Metropolis, went peacefully into the arms of our father in heaven on June 19, 2021, at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah while surrounded by her loving family.

 

Jessie was born on June 27, 1940, in Clinton, Illinois, the daughter of John O. and Frances B. Alwood.  She married Richard Monkman on July 25, 1956 in Clinton, Illinois. 

 

A visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Metropolis Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 with a graveside service immediately following.  

 

Jessie was a devoted Christian wife to her husband Richard for nearly 65 years. She lived each day showing the love of a wife and mother to her husband and five children that she loved very much.

 

She was a not only a loving mother to her five children, but also to a special man, Dean Gambrel (Kathy), who she loved like a son. Jessie always placed faith and family first, as she encouraged and supported all her children in everything they did and was always very proud of all their accomplishments in life.  It came natural to her to inspire others and make them believe that they could do it too. Helping others reach their dreams and get to the point in their life where they were happy with everything was the moment she lived for.  

 

She was known for her hamburgers and nut rolls, as she loved to cook for her family and others. She spent the rest of her time quilting, reading and most of all, she loved playing cards with her family. Jessie was a loving mother that appreciated the simple things in life. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. 

 

Jessie is survived by her husband; her 3 sons, Richard Monkman (Ladonna), William Monkman, and Mike Monkman (Lisa); her 2 daughters, Barbara Harding and Christina Burnham (Keith); 7 grandchildren, James Davis (Cassie), Michael Monkman, Ricky Monkman (Jessica), Makaela Johnson (Jarelle), Allen DeLacey (Chrissy), Zachary Burnham, and Brock Burnham; 4 great-grandchildren, Carter Bell, Jillian Monkman, Oliver Monkman, and Jerzey Johnson; sister, Dorothy Sutton (Art); brother, Charles Alwood (Poge); several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Bertha Lane and Polly Alwood; 4 brothers, William, John, Claude, and Joe Alwood.

Walter Garland Strohl

 Walter Garland Strohl, 95 of Clinton, IL passed away 2 PM June 18, 2021 at his family home in Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be 11 AM Wednesday June 30, 2021 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Cody Monkman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with military honors. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM Tuesday June 29, 2021 at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be directed to Little Galilee Christian Assembly or the Clinton First Christian Church.

 

Garland was born January 5, 1926 in Shelbyville, IL the only son of Roy and Sylvia (Prosser) Strohl. He married Daris Hopper of Mattoon, IL on March 20, 1944.

 

Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Daris Strohl of Clinton; daughters, Janet (Wayne) Webb of Clinton and Darla (Tom) Kissel of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Vickie Strohl of Downs; grandsons, Scott (Lisa) Strohl, Bloomington, Brian (Sambath) Strohl, Beaverton, OR, Tyler “T.J.” Kissel of Lincoln; step granddaughters, Darcie (Jared) Callison, Palatine, and Kristy Semanik, Springfield; great grandsons, Logan, Colton, Caden; step great grandsons, Baylor Callison, and Bill Semanik; and step great granddaughter, Samantha (fiancé Austin McHaffey) Nebergall.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kennth Strohl of Downs and granddaughter, Megan Leigh Kissel of Lincoln.

 

Garland graduated from high school at the age of fifteen. While working full time in various business careers, he was able to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University in Business Administration.

 

Mr. Strohl was a member of the Clinton First Christian Church. He was also actively involved in his church and business community in Tuscola. Mr. Strohl was an elder, superintendent, and served as a board member of the Little Galilee Christian Assembly in its early development. He was an alderman and Mayor of Tuscola and the Jarman Hospital Administrator in Tuscola for several years. He ended his career as Hospital Administrator at the Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville.

 

Reaching the rank of Colonel, Garland was a proud veteran of the US Army Infantry serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was also a Battalion Commander in the Illinois National Guard, retiring from the guard as a Brigadier General.

 

Mr. Strohl was a well-respected member of his communities, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed. 

Bernard Hoffman

Bernard A. “Bernie” Hoffman, 70, of Clinton, IL passed away at 9:07 AM, June 13, 2021 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL.

 

Services will be 11 AM Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Scott Marsh officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 10-11 AM, Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Memorials will be directed to the COPD Foundation.

 

Bernie was born April 11, 1951 in Clinton, IL the son of Robert and Rose (Arnold) Hoffman. He married Elisa Cooper May 7, 2016. She passed away on June 23, 2020.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Alisha Boysen (Jason Reynolds) of Clinton; Nicole DeBauche of Wapella; A sister Debra Hoffman of Clinton; grandchildren, Noah Boysen and Noel Boysen, of Clinton; Sierra Atteberry (Colten Reeves) of Clinton; Cheyenne Hughes (Kyle) of Lexington; Paine DeBauche of Wapella; great-grandchildren, Mia Underwood and Ewan Hughes of Lexington and two nephews, Bobby Hoffman of Chicago and Jeff Hoffman of Bloomington.

 

He was proceeded in death by his wife and parents.

 

Bernie was a US Navy veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He was a Union Electrician for IBEW Local #51. He enjoyed playing pool, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family, friends and his dog Flash.

Nina was born July 7, 1948 in Sicily, Italy the daughter of Giovanni “John” and Anna (Evola) Curcuru.

 

Survivors include her children, Anna Maria Miller-Lane, Mahomet, IL, John Miller, Clinton, IL; twin granddaughters, Sera Brooke Lane and Alissa Jianna Marie Lane, both of Mahomet, IL; sisters-in-law, Lisa (Jim) Drew, Lincoln, IL, Sharon Klein, Bemus Point, NY; nieces and nephews, John Curcuru, FL, Annalisa Curcuru, PA., Jetty Curcuru, IL, Tony Curcuru, IL; great nieces, Mia and Sophia.

 

Nina was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Serafino Curcuru.

 

Nina Co-Owned and Operated Sorrento’s Pizza, Clinton, IL with her son John Miller. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Clinton, Il. Nina loved making pizzas and giving to others. She loved to cook for her family and spend time with them. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, who were the love of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Richard Wallace

Richard L. Wallace 84 of Argenta, Illinois passed away 10:40 PM June 11, 2021 at his family residence Argenta, IL.

Richard was born December 14, 1936 in Argenta, IL the son of Russell and Ellen (McMillen) Wallace. He married Shirley J. Manning August 8, 1963 in Argenta, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Shirley J. Wallace, Argenta, IL; children, Jeff (Beth) Wallace, Decatur, IL and Shelly (Bob) Nichols, Ormond Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Heath (Krista) Nichols, Ormond Beach, FL and Von (Cecelia Gates) Nichols, Palm Coast, FL; great-grandchildren:  Claire, Kolby, and Chloe Nichols; siblings:  Barbara (Pete) McConkey, Geneva, IL; Edwin (Kay) Wallace, Argenta, IL; and Jack (Marsha) Wallace, St. Charles, IL.

 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

 

Richard was a farmer, sexton for Friends Creek Cemetery and a driver for Decatur Auto Auction. 

 

He enjoyed watching racing, tv-westerns and wrestling.  He loved spending time with family and especially his grandchildren.

Nellie Koons

Nellie M. Koons, 93 of Clinton, IL passed away 9:52 PM Friday, June 4, 2021 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL.

Mrs. Koons was born March 1, 1928 to Lee L. Crawford and Nellie Fern Wasem in Patoka, IL. Nellie married Robert E. Koons June 16, 1946 in Clinton, IL. He passed away December 1, 2007.

 

Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers, Dean Crawford and Carl Crawford, daughter-in-law, Julie Koons and granddaughter-in-law, Nikki Welch.

 

Survivors include her children, daughter, Karen Welch (Roy Peddycoart), Clinton, IL, sons, Keith Koons and Kenneth Koons, Clinton, IL, sister, Carol Crabb and sister-in-law, Lona Donahower, grandchildren, Gary Welch, Clinton, IL; Chris Welch, Decatur, IL; Zack Koons (Samantha), Clinton, IL; Jenny Smiddy (Jared); Jessica McCleary (Mark) and Kyle Koons, great grandchildren, Clayton Welch; Jacob Smiddy; Juliette Smiddy; Isaac McCleary; Ezekiel McCleary; Samuel McCleary; and Carver Koons. Nellie was the Owner of Triple K Konstruction, a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL, Golden Eagle with the Clinton Eagle’s Lodges, DAR, Beta Sigma Phi, Artist Alley, White Shrine and Commandary.

 

She was an avid Illinois fan and spent many hours working in her flowers. Nellie also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and painting. She loved spending time with her family and most of all loved her Lord and Savior.

Carolyn Nobles

Carolyn J. Nobles, 78 of Clinton, IL passed away 12:50 PM June 4, 2021 at the Warner Hospital and Health Services, Clinton, IL.

Carolyn was born October 6, 1942 in Lane, IL the daughter of Darrell L. and Fleta (Duff) Moody. She married G.A. Nobles September 4, 1981 in Clinton, IL. He passed away September 11, 2019.

 

Survivors include her children, Paul Harris, Diane Morris, Tommy Harris, and Carol Arteman; stepchildren, Carla Anderson and Blake Nobles; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronald Moody and Marilyn Brewer.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Patricia Butler and Donald Moody.

 

Carolyn retired from Eureka in Bloomington, IL. She enjoyed traveling and sitting on her front porch. She was a loving and giving person, who loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. Her family was the most important to her.

Jerry Mahoney

Jerry Stuart Mahoney, 85, of Argenta, IL, passed away at 2:55 AM June 3, 2021 at his family home in Argenta, IL.

Jerry was born April 21, 1936 in Argenta, IL the son of Howard L. and Lydia A. (Dallman) Mahoney. He married Judy Ferrill in on September 28, 1963.

 

Survivors include his wife; daughter-in-law, Michele Mahoney; grandsons, Chase (Whitney) Stephenson, Caleb (fiancée, Meghan Mathews) Mahoney, Dalton Mahoney; Granddaughter, Kaitlyn Mahoney. great grandchildren, Wesley and Layla Stephenson.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sons, Jeffrey and Timothy Mahoney.

 

Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry with a specialty in heavy weapons.

 

Jerry worked for Revere Copper & Brass/Corning Ware in Clinton, IL for 36 years before retiring. He was also a Golden Eagle with Clinton Eagles Lodge #593.

 Kymberli Anne Whitted, 51, of Clinton, IL passed away at 7:05 AM, May 29, 2021 at her residence, Clinton, IL.

Kymberli was born July 4, 1969 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Danny and Nancy (Perry) Haynes.  She married Damon K. Whitted on October 7, 2006 in Clinton, IL.

 

Survivors include her husband, Damon K. Randy I. Lane

Randy "Hank" I. Lane, 63, of Clinton, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur. 

 

Private graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Clinton with Mr. Ernie Harvey officiating. 

 

Cremation Rites have been accorded. 

 

Randy Irvin Lane was born on June 15, 1957, in Bloomington, the son of Darrell L. and Bertha O. Alwood Lane. He was first united in marriage to Tina Thrasher. He then married Jody Bridgewater. He is survived by his wife Frances “Loody” McGhee Lane. 

 

Also surviving are his children: Stacy Lane and Toni (John) Plotke; stepchildren: Christi Plump, Caleb Primmer, and Rachel McGhee; four sisters: Frances Reeser, Dianna Ballenger, Jacqueline Palmer, and Jeannie Yeakel; seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. 

 

Hank graduated from the Clinton High School in 1976.  He was employed as a truck driver. His hobbies included playing the guitar and singing, getting together with friends and family, traveling out west and driving his semi. 

 

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Beverly S. Moore

Beverly S. Moore, 78, of Clinton, passed away at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

 

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

 

Beverly Sue Evans was born July 25, 1942, in Clinton, the daughter of Lyle R. and Zelma Rousey Evans. She was united in marriage to Russell E. Moore. He preceded her in death.

 

Beverly is survived by her two sons: Russell D. Moore of Atlanta and James Moore of Clinton, and one sister: Donna Robison of Clinton.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

 

Beverly was a member of the Clinton Assembly of God.

 

Memorials may be made to her family.

Richard Lee Gaultney, Jr.

Richard Lee Gaultney, Jr., 50, of Weeki Wachee, FL passed away on January 30, 2021, at his home.  He was born in Bloomington, Illinois and moved to this area 5 years ago from Central Illinois.  He enjoyed watching sports, especially Blues Hockey and going to Rock concerts.

 

Richard is predeceased by his step father, Carl Pinkley, and leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 24 years, Candace of Weeki Wachee, FL; his son: Andrew Richard Gaultney of Mt. Pulaski; his parents: Richard Gaultney Sr of  Kenny and Diana Pinkley of Mt. Pulaski; his brother: Kirk Gaultney of Mt. Pulaski: his father and mother-in-law: Bud and Cathy Blessing of Clinton; his sister-in-law: Cari Johnson and her husband, Barry of Bloomington; nieces: Dasha and Kyla Johnson  and his canine companion: Ria.

 

Family will be gathering for celebration of life on Sunday June 6 from1-5 at Weldon Springs Chautauqua.  Friends and family are invited to bring memories to share. Light refreshments will be served. Bring a favorite food of Richs, if you wish! Casual dress please.
