Zachary Andrew Cornell, 34, of Warrensburg, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 after a long battle with Leukemia. 

 

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Monday, April 9, at Life Foursquare Church, Decatur, with visitation two hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with the arrangements. 

 

Zac was born July 22, 1983, in Decatur, IL, son of Donald Cornell and Janie Cornell-Vankleek. He married his wife, Arica Cornell on July 23, 2011. 

 

Zac attended MacArthur High School. He was an operator at Tate & Lyle until his diagnosis with AML Leukemia. He loved hunting and fishing, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. 

 

Zac leaves behind his wife, Arica of Warrensburg; children: Kaley Cornell, Carter Cornell and Ally Donohue, all of Warrensburg; siblings: Megan Cornell, Joshua Cornell, both of Decatur, and Molly Cornell of Dawson, IL; step-sisters: Jennifer Vankleek of Nebraska and Michell (Kevin) Simons of Iowa; nephew: Payton Nimmons of Decatur and Karmynn Lopez of Dawson, IL; his special in-laws Bob and Tamara Foley of Decatur; brother-in-law: Aaron Woolever of Florida; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, especially Aunt Jill Nisbet and Uncle Jon Constant. 

 

Zac was preceded in death by his step-father James VanKleek, his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, sister-in-law Amber Vallandingham, and his special childhood friend Mark Ingram. 

 

A very special thank you to Dr. S. Kairouz and his wonderful staff, DMH Hospice Ty and Sandy, his doctors at Barnes Hospital, and to all his family and friends, and neighbors. (You know who you are). 

 

Zac was a fighter - he never gave up and kept his sense of humor till the very end. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his wife, Arica Cornell.
