Sharon Doenitz

Sharon Doenitz, 87, of Wapella, IL passed away 2:07 PM September 27, 2023 at Luther Oaks, Bloomington, IL.

 

Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, IL with Pastor Darrell Howard officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to DeWitt County Museum, Clinton United Methodist Church, or Gentiva Hospice.

 

Sharon was born October 10, 1935 in Jerseyville, IL the daughter of William and Mabel (Arfsten) Garber. She married Robert Doenitz November 18, 1956 in Jerseyville, IL.

 

Survivors include her husband, Robert Doenitz, Bloomington, IL; children: Amanda Doenitz, of California and Todd (Ellen) Doenitz of Plymouth, MI; five grandchildren Halle (Jackie) Doenitz, Amy (Ryan) Lilly, Maj. Andrew (Breanna) Doenitz, Courtney Doenitz (Mario Macari), and Charles Doenitz; and four great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings William Garber, Barbara Garber, and Richard Garber.

 

Sharon was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, Land of Lincoln Quilters Guild, DeWitt County Historical Museum, and Salt Creek Patch Makers. Most of all, Sharon loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her friends and her family in the farming community.

Richard John Jackson

Richard John Jackson, born in Clinton, Illinois on March 14, 1951, the first of four sons to Donald A. Jackson and Mary A. Jackson, embarked on his eternal journey on May 25, 2023, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever be engraved in the hearts of his loved ones.
 
Richard's early life was marked by the joys of siblinghood, as he was an older brother to Larry (North Carolina), David, and Francis (Illinois). His parents, Donald and Mary & one nephew, Christopher, preceded him in death, awaiting a joyful reunion in the heavens above.
 
Richard's academic journey was marked by exceptional intelligence and unwavering determination. He graduated from Rome Catholic High School in 1969, already demonstrating his intellectual prowess. It was clear from an early age that Richard had a bright future ahead of him. He went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Physics at Clarkson College of Technology, Potsdam NY and further honed his skills by earning a master's degree in electrical engineering at Syracuse University.
 
In the spring of 1979, Richard embarked on a lifelong journey of love and partnership when he married Deborah Cross, his beloved wife of 44 years. Their bond was a testament to the power of commitment, devotion, and enduring love.
 
Richard's professional life was marked by unwavering dedication to his country. He served tirelessly in the defense sector, with his most recent assignment taking him to California, where he worked as Senior Projects Manager for the Raytheon Corporation. His dedication to national security was unwavering, and his contributions have left a lasting impact on the world.
 
Richard was a man of integrity, discipline, and humility. He possessed a quiet strength that inspired those around him. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he treasured the moments spent with his loved ones. Richard's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, as they remember the warmth of his smile, the wisdom of his words, and the love he shared.
 
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Cross, and his brothers, Larry (Isabel), David (Nancy, and Francis (Kathy) as well as numerous nieces & nephews. He leaves behind a wealth of cherished memories, a testament to a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure through the ages.
 
As we bid farewell to Richard, let us remember his life as a beacon of love, dedication, and honor. His memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts, and we find solace in the knowledge that he now rests in eternal peace.
 
A funeral Mass for Richard will be at 11:00 AM Friday, September 29th, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rome NY, the Very Rev. Seán P. O’Brien, VF, presiding. 
 
May Richard's soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.

 

Darlene Kay Shofner

Darlene Kay Shofner, 82, of Maroa, IL passed away at 7:38 PM, September 21, 2023 at her family residence, Maroa, IL.

 

Private Graveside Services will be Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Maroa Cemetery, Maroa, IL with Scott Marsh officiating.  Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, IL is in charge of arrangements. 

 

Memorials may be directed to Decatur Memorial Hospice.

 

Darlene was born September 22, 1940 in Macon County, IL the daughter of Bernie and Edna Louise (Cade) Brown.  She married Franklin W. Shofner, Sr. April 21, 1957 in Maroa, IL.  He passed away August 15, 2008.

 

Survivors include her sons:  Franklin Shofner, Jr., Clinton, IL; Alan (Theresa) Shofner, Harden, IL; Joey Shofner, Maroa, IL; and Ronald Scott Shofner, Maroa, IL;  nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Barbara Croufutt, Douglas, WY. 

 

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

 

Darlene retired from the Maroa-Forsyth School District as a cook.  She enjoyed reading romance novels.  Most of all, Darlene loved spending time with her family.

Donna M. King

Donna M. King, 94 of Argenta, IL passed away 6:25 AM September 20, 2023 at her family home in Argenta, IL.

 

Graveside services will be 11 AM, Monday, September 25, 2023 at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL with Chaplain Joe Bowman officiating. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with arrangements.

 

Donna was born May 28, 1929 in Russiaville, IN the daughter of Basil L. and Ruth L. (Summers) Haskell. She married Walter F. King August 10, 1947 in Oreana, IL. He passed away November 6, 2002.

 

Survivors include her children, Denise L. Lanter, Argenta, IL and Mark W. (Mary Lou) King, Decatur, IL; four granddaughters, one grandson, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

 

Donna was a member of the Argenta United Methodist Church, Prairie Homemakers, and Red Hat Society in Argenta, IL. She had worked for 20 years as the Assistant Cashier Gerber State Bank.  Donna enjoyed making her own greeting cards and sending them to family and friends for all occasions.

 

Donna’s family would like to thank Memorial Hospice for their care.

Kevin D. Williams

Kevin D. Williams 67 of Argenta, IL passed away 6:59 PM September 16, 2023 at his family residence, Argenta, IL.

 

Graveside Services will be 11:30 AM, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL with Richard Kaufman officiating.  Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Kevin was born December 6, 1955 in Decatur, IL the son of Dale Ora and Shirley (Headrick) Williams.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Williams-Gass (Ben), Pflugerville, Texas; grandchildren, Nathan and Wyatt Gass, Pflugerville, Texas; and sister, Kim Williams, Argenta, IL.

 

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Kevin started farming at the age of 16.  He also drove for Briggs Trucking and Heartland Trucking and managed livestock.  Kevin was a member of the Macon County Farm Bureau.  He loved to fish, hunt, and ride his 3-wheelers.  Kevin was a loving son, father, and grandfather.

Jose de Jesus Munoz Gomez “Jesus”, 45, of Kenney, Illinois passed away 1:47 PM September 5, 2023.

 

Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church, Clinton, IL with Fr. Thomas Szydlik Celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL.

 

Jose was born March 27, 1978 in San José de las Flores, Jalisco, Mexico the son of Jose and Eufracia (Gomez) Munoz Garcia. He married Susan Kay Anderson June 30, 2001 and St. John’s Catholic Church, Clinton, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Susan Kay Munoz, Kenney, IL; parents Jose and Eufracia Munoz Garcia, Clinton, IL; son Kigan Antonio Munoz, Clinton, IL; one brother Jose Antonio Munoz, Clinton, IL, four sisters Maria (Tom) Hector, Clinton, IL, Maria Otilia Munoz Gomez, Clinton, IL, Adela Munoz Gomez, Clinton, IL, Rogelia (Carlos) Ochoa, Dwight, IL; nieces and nephews Kade, Carlos, Cristian, Jack, Sandra (Jacob), Alexis, Abeline, Andrea, Jorie, and Payton; also his beloved dogs Chato and Muneca.

 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one nephew, Maddox Munoz.

 

Jesus worked at Kelly Construction in Decatur, IL for 13 years.

John Wesley "Wes" Anderson

John Wesley “Wes” Anderson 78 of Kenney/Harlingen, TX passed away 9 PM September 3, 2023 at his family residence, Kenney, IL.

Services will be 3 PM Monday, September 11, 2023 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL. with Nathan Hodel officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 6 – 8 PM Sunday, September 10, 2023 and 2 – 3 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family request casual attire. 

Memorials may be directed to the Kenney Fire and Rescue. 

Wes was born February 22, 1945 in Decatur, IL the son of B.J. “Jack” and Mary (Davis) Anderson. He married Joan Kay Herman February 14, 1970 in Mt. Aurburn, IL.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years and their children, John William (Michelle ) of Palm Harbor, FL, and Susan Munoz, Kenney, IL; four grandchildren, Kigan Munoz, Jack Anderson, Jorie Anderson, and Payton Anderson; sister, Phyllis (Roger) Thomas, Chattanooga, TN. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Judy Buzzard, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Laniesa Herman, nieces and nephews. Also, numerous friends in Kenney and Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Paul and Mildred Herman. 

Wes graduated from Warrensburg-Latham High School in 1963, served four years in the Air Force (Okinawa). He then farmed in Beason/Kenney area for 39 years. He also operated Anderson Refrigeration and Electric.

He was a former member of the Kenney Fire Department, trustee of the fire department, board member of the Bank of Kenney, Kenney Heritage, Prairie State Model T Ford Club of America (Decatur) and Prairie A’s Model A Club (Champaign).

Wes and Joan began winters in Texas in 1979 and eventually became Texas residents. They returned to Kenney each summer.

Donna J. Torbert, 84, of Kenney, IL passed away 5:17 AM, September 3, 2023 at her residence, Kenney, IL.

Donna was born August 11, 1939 in DeWitt County, IL the daughter of John and Jean (Spencer) Clifton, Sr. She married Roger W. Torbert, Sr. July 21, 1960 in Clinton, IL. 

Survivors include her husband, Roger W. Torbert, Sr., Kenney, IL, children, Roger Torbert, Jr., Harriston, IL; Treassa Crawley, Decatur, IL; Tammie (David) Green, Clinton, IL; Denise (John) Hickman, Clinton, IL; Jeffery (Amy Galloway) Torbert, Clinton, IL; Tonya (Mike) Walker, Clinton, IL; Troy Torbert, Kenney, IL, 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, siblings, Sue Jordan, Hays, KS; and Shawn (Danny) Deavers, Kenney, IL. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, John T. Clifton, Jr.

Donna had worked at the Clinton Junior High School Cafeteria for 30 years, retiring in 2007.  She enjoyed gardening, walking, cooking, especially supporting her kids/grandkids sports activities. She was a diehard St. Louis Cardinal fan. Family was the most important thing in Donna’s life. Donna and her rosy red cheeks will be greatly missed by those that new and loved her.

Laura "Loretta" E. Colliver

Laura “Loretta” E. Colliver, 92 of Wapella, Illinois passed away September 3, 2023.

 

Laura was born September 2, 1931 in Clinton, Illinois the daughter of Walter Robert and Susan Esthel Jones. She married the love of her life, John L. Colliver, on June 17, 1951 in Perry, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2023. Also, preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Walter Jones, Calvin Jones and Delbert Jones; sisters, Helen Colliver, Susan Ester Jones, Donna Massey and Twila Goad.

 

Laura is survived by her four children, Jackie (Bob) Boring, Mike (Karen) Colliver, Tammy (Rich) Doner, Brenda (Dennis) Underwood; grandchildren, Shannon (Mitch) Whitson, Lacy (Beau) Boudreau, Alicia (Eric) Bunting, Jeremiah (Amy) Doner, Amber (Billy) Rutledge, Hillary (JD) Lambert, Lance (Ava) Underwood, Jacob (Taylor) Underwood, Whitney (Ian) Underwood and 13 great grandchildren with a baby boy due in October; one brother, Oscar Jones and one sister, Lilly (Butch) Green.

 

Laura retired from Wallace Computer Services in 1993. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida and her trips to the Peoria Riverboat. Laura loved supporting her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren at their events. She always had a special place in her heart for the “Old Home Place” where she grew up.

 

A visitation will be held at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 5 to 8 pm with a service on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 am at the funeral home officiated by Jim Kilson. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery.

 

Our family would like to thank everyone at Imboden Creek Living Center and Elara Hospice Care.

Laura was a loving wife, mom, grandma and great grandma. She will be missed by many.

Thomas M. Dwyer

Thomas M. Dwyer, 63, of Clinton, IL passed away at 6:14 AM September 2, 2023 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL.

 

Services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Dave Glenn officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM- 3:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Home.

 

Tom was born March 8, 1960 in San Bernardino, CA the son of Richard Dale and Virginia June (Leonard) Dwyer. He married Wanette Ann Curless June 3, 1989 in Havana, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife Wanette Dwyer, Clinton, IL; children Laney Dayle (Zach) Newberry, Clinton, IL, and Keegan Thomas (Amara Clark) Dwyer, Astoria, IL; siblings Patty (Kevin) Kirkbride and Rick (Sandy) Dwyer; sister-in-law Tonya (Darryl) Holmes; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings Dixie Dale Dwyer, Judy Dwyer and Guy Christopher.

 

Tom worked for the Boilermakers Local #60 for many years before working at the Clinton Power Station, Local #51, where he worked for 29 and a half years before his retirement in September of 2021. He was an avid fisherman, deer and mushroom hunter, and Green Bay Packer fan. He looked forward to hunting season every year with his kids. He enjoyed the time he spent coaching his son’s JFL football team. Tom’s family will always remember his deep belief in the existence of UFO’s and Bigfoot. He loved his family deeply, especially his grand dog Bear; and will be missed by all who knew him.

Don was born May 7, 1935 in LaSalle County, Illinois the son of Harry and Ethel (Pryde) Ploch. He married Betty Jane Fassino January 20, 1955 in Stuttgart, AR. She passed away June 21, 2015.

 

Survivors include his sons: Phillip (Maria), NC; Brian, Argenta, IL; Kevin (Cindy), TX; and Arric (Mary), MO; daughters: Brenda (Shawn) Ploch Reeves, Cisco, IL; and Donnette Ploch, Argenta, IL.

 

He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Victoria Lopez, Meaghann (Seth) Floyd, Stephen Ploch, Jennifer Ploch, Joseph (Amanda) Ploch, Nathan (Casey) Reeves, Jennifer Bolanos, Zackary Ploch, Madison Ploch, and Ellie Ploch; 12 great-grandchildren:  Jonathan Segovia, Lane Silar, Katlynn Ploch, Addison Floyd, Ben Reeves, Kyle Ploch, Corrie Reeves, Avery Floyd, Karoline Ploch, Sadie Reeves, Reagan Floyd, and Isla Reeves; and his loving dog, Hank.
