Mary N. Linthicum

Mary N. Linthicum, 94, of Clinton, IL passed away 12:00 AM, August 31, 2025 at Goldwater Care, Clinton, IL.

Services will be 11 AM Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Rev. David Dunlop officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL.  Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home

Mary was born January 19, 1931 in DeWitt County, IL the daughter of Arthur and Irene (Johnson) Menapace.  She married Clarence “Deb” Linthicum February 27, 1949 in Chestnut, IL.  He passed away April 21, 2008.

Survivors include her children, Marsha Lusk, Jacksonville, FL; Michele (Ray Zacholski) Freeman, The Villages, FL; and Melonie (Mike) Tilley, Clinton, IL, grandchildren, Jess Gash, Clinton, IL; Matthew Tilley, Clinton, IL; Mark (Katy) Tilley, Downs, IL; and Ryan (Miranda) Freeman, Clinton, IL, great-grandchildren, Cierra Mills, Tyler Mills, Sydnee Gash, Michael Tilley, Riley Freeman, Harry Tilley, Willow Freeman, Liam Gash, four great grandchildren, along with nieces, Emmy Daniels, Nancy Wene, nephew, Tom Wene and her fourth daughter, Susie Alexander.

She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Danielle Gash, sister, Doris Cundiff, and son-in-law, Frank Lusk.

Mary was the oldest member of Christ Lutheran Church. She retired in 1972 as bookkeeper in banking to become the bookkeeper for Linthicum Construction.  Mary loved to read, do puzzles but especially she loved spending time with her family.

Jerry L. Milton

Jerry L. Milton 85 of Clinton, Illinois passed away 12:04 PM, August 28, 2025 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

 

Services will be 11 AM, Friday, September 5, 2025 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, Il. Visitation will be 9-11 AM, Friday at the funeral home.

Jerry was born January 6, 1940 in Bloomington, IL the son of Clarence and Willamena (Hoesman) Milton.  He married Charlotte Buck May 26, 1962 in Clinton, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Milton, Clinton, IL; children:  Thearsa (Seth) Redington, Clinton, IL; Shannon Milton, Clinton, IL; Shawn (Dana) Milton, Clinton, IL; and Melissa Armstrong, Clinton, IL; seven grandchildren:  Candace (Kelly) Welch, Clinton, IL; Aaron Sams, Clinton, IL; Coltan (Chelsea) Milton, Staunton, IL; Drew Milton, Clinton, IL; Delaney Milton, Clinton, IL; Mackenzie (Drew) Clark, Clinton, IL; and Ashley Armstrong, Clinton, IL; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn Woolridge, Bloomington, IL.

 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Milton; sister, Betty Maxwell; and grandson, Lucas Welch.

 

Jerry was a Fireman for 38 years and was also the Fire Chief in Clinton.  He was a 50 year member of the Clinton Rotary, a Clinton City Commissioner, and an Elder at First Christian Church, Clinton, IL.  Jerry along with his wife owned and operated Buck Appliance in Clinton, IL for several years. They also owned the Uptown Laundromat.  He loved horses and horseback riding.  Most of all, Jerry loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Nancy Irene (Douglas) Stone

On August 7, 2025 Nancy Irene (Douglas) Stone passed away peacefully at the age of 82. Nancy was born on July 31, 1943 in Pekin, IL to John Owen and Ruth Douglas.  She spent her childhood in Creve Cour, IL with siblings George Douglas and Rowena (Douglas) Altic.

Nancy married Terrence David Stone on September 23, 1962 in East Peoria, IL.  Terry and Nancy resided most of their married life in Waynesville, IL where they raised their two children, Norman and Amanda.  Nancy was an active member of the United Methodist Church and a regular fixture in the Waynesville Women’s Club.

In 2012, Nancy and Terry moved to Riverton, WY where they have enjoyed camping and hiking.  Nancy was active in the United Methodist Church in Riverton.  She also became dedicated to the Quilts of Valor organization, where she produced dozens of quilts that were lovingly awarded to US veterans through QOV and Hunting for Heroes.  She contributed many other quilts to various charities, including Special Olympics.  Nancy was also a gifted crafter, making hundreds of greeting cards for her friends and family over the years.  She never missed an opportunity to make someone’s day brighter with a card, a chocolate cake, a cherry pie, or just an encouraging word.

Nancy’s greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.   Whether it was baseball, marching band, school programs, volleyball, or Special Olympics, Nancy was there.  She is survived by her husband Terry, son Norman Stone (Sherri), daughter Amanda Murrell (Bill), granddaughters Linsay Stone (Derek), Kaleigh England (Andy), Megan Golden (Clay), grandson Nathan Murrell, and 3 great-granddaughters Layla and Mari Golden and Millie England (arriving soon.)

There is no service planned at this time.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westward Heights Care Center, 150 Caring Way, Lander, WY 82520 or to the Waynesville United Methodist Church, 202 S Isham St, Waynesville, IL 61778.

Bruce A. Mandrell

Bruce A. Mandrell 63 of Clinton, IL passed away 8:37 P.M. August 16, 2025 at his family residence, Clinton, IL.

Bruce was born February 24, 1962 in Clinton, IL the son of Charlie and Rose (Bradley) Mandrell.

Survivors include his father, Charlie Mandrell, Clinton, IL; sister, Lora (Kelly) Kinder, Clinton, IL; brother, Greg (Erin) Mandrell, Clinton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his mother, brother, Chuck Mandrell, along with his faithful dog, Titus

Bruce worked at Wallace Press for 37 years. He enjoyed camping, the outdoors, animals and traveling out west.

Mary A. Janes

Mary A. Janes, 79 of Decatur, IL passed away 2:00 PM August 13, 2025 at Fair Havens Senior Living, Decatur, IL.

 

Visitation will be 4-6 PM, Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL. Private family burial will be at Croninger Cemetery, Cisco, IL.

Mary was born February 25, 1946 in Bloomington, IL the daughter of Curtis and Ellen (Cole) Camic.  She married Charles Melvin “Mel” Janes in 1974. He passed away December 10, 1985.

 

Survivors include her children:  Robin  Janes, Lafayette, IN and Chris (Patti) Janes, Decatur, IL; two grandchildren:  Skylar (Abby) Janes and Oakley Swinger; and two great-grandchildren:  Daylen and Rayden.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Tyler Haas.

 

Mary was a member of the Cisco United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed farming most of her life and especially loved spending time with her family.

Lois Powers Grimm (nee Barton)

Lois Powers Grimm (nee Barton), age 98, daughter of George and Mary Barton, was born February 16, 1927. She passed away August 13, 2025 in Columbia, MO.

Lois left home at an early age and lived in St. Louis for many years. She waitressed at Stan Musial and Biggies, where she met and then married Kenneth F. “Capp” Powers on February 17, 1965 in Clinton, IL. Lois and Capp were grain farmers and avid members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Elks Club in Clinton, IL until he passed away on April 27, 1988. Later Lois married Robert M. “Bob” Grimm on January 14, 1989. They moved to Missouri for a number of years before returning to Decatur, IL. Bob passed away on November 6, 2012. Lois moved to Missouri and lived in Houston, MO; Mountain Grove, MO; Rolla, MO; and Columbia, MO.

Lois was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sisters, Eva, Pearl, Iva, and Norma; brothers, Earnest, Everett, Clarence, Raymond, Eleda, Noah, John, Virgil, Arthur, Floyd, Lloyd, and Herbert; one granddaughter, Cindy Wirt; and one stepson, Robert D. Grimm.
 
She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Wirt (Fort Collins, CO) and her son, Kenny Powers (Irvington, KY); her stepdaughter, Roselyn “Rosie” (Gene) Sowers (Decatur, IL); her stepson, Randall Grimm (Clinton, IL); many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Johnson (Arnold, MO); as well as many nephews and nieces. 

Lois was a loving and caring person, always selflessly helping others. She was also an amazing cook and was quick to share her recipes. Lois was a faithful Catholic throughout her life. In her later years, Lois was a voracious reader. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Our Lady of the Prairie Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wapella, IL with Fr. Thomas Szydlik, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Wapella, IL. Visitation will be 10-11 AM, Wednesday at Our Lady of the Prairie Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wapella, IL. Connie Jean Brown

Clinton – Connie Jean Brown, 84, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Connie was born on September 16, 1940, in Clinton, IL the daughter of Thomas Edward and Ruth Amanda (Buchanan) Owens. A homemaker and member of the Texas Christian Church, Connie was an artist and loved traveling with her family. She married Phillip A. Brown on August 31, 1974, in Wapella, IL.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; first husband William Warner Miller and granddaughter Elyse Polston.

Connie is survived by her husband, Phillip of Clinton; children: Thomas (Tamra) Miller of Clinton and Lisa (Jim) Polston of WA; granddaughter Shelby Polston and sister Joyce Ahlheim of CA.

Visitation will be from 10 am until the service time of 11 am, Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Texas Christian Church, Clinton, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Texas Christian Church or Parkinson’s Foundation.

Helen E. McGinnis

Helen E. McGinnis, 93, of Minier, IL passed away 9:45 AM August 8, 2025 at Goldwater Care, Clinton, IL.

 

Private family burial at Orendorff Cemetery, Hopedale, IL will be at a later date.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL assisted the family with cremation rites.

 

Helen was born September 10, 1931 in Delavan, IL the daughter of William and Edna (Cremeens) McCoy. She married Don McGinnis September 21, 1948 in Pekin, IL.  He passed away January 9, 2014

 

Survivors include her children:  Sally Mehrer, Dennis (Margaret) McGinnis, Doug (Sarah) McGinnis, and Jerade (Jennifer) McGinnis; 30 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; children:  Ronnie McGinnis, Bill McGinnis, and Andrea Graham; her brothers and a sister.

 

Helen was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren.

Rolland L. Malone, Jr.

Rolland L. Malone, Jr. 92 of Decatur, IL passed away 9:15 PM August 8, 2025 at the Randall Residence, Decatur, IL.

Rolland was born July 16, 1933 in Decatur, IL the son of Rolland Leo and Mary Isabelle (Smart) Malone, Sr. He married Donna R. Zindar, May 31, 1951 in Decatur, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Donna R. Malone, Decatur, IL, children, Chris (Julie) Malone, Cerro Gordo, IL, and Candee Dukes, Decatur, IL, grandchildren, Damon (Christian) Dukes, Florida; Michelle (Carl) Wheeler, Decatur, IL; Bryan (Jennifer) Malone, Cerro Gordo, IL; Cory (Avery) Malone, Dandrige, TN, 8 great grandchildren, sister, Alyson (Bill) Buecler, Sleepy Hollow, IL, brother, Jon (Doris) Malone, Marion, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeremy Malone; son-in-law, Ron Dukes; sister, Darlene Nordland.

Rolland was a farmer for 49 years and also worked for Caterpillar for 30 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Argenta Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Ansar Shrine, and Bloomington Consistory. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Gary V. Cook

McLean – Gary V. Cook, 71, of McLean, passed away at Carle Hospital Champaign on Friday, August 8, 2025.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. Private services will be held.

Gary V. Cook was born August 1, 1954, in Lincoln, the son of Osco W. and Eva L. Dalbey Cook.

Gary is survived by one sister, Mavis Cook; three brothers: John Cook, Jim Cook, and Darwin Cook; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Russell Cook.

Gary had worked for Illinois Crop Improvement as a Manager and for Mountjoy Seed Company. He was of the Catholic faith, was a lifelong member of the NRA, and enjoyed gardening and mowing.

Eileen Torrillo Carter

Eileen Torrillo Carter, 81, of Clinton, Illinois passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2025, at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center with her loving husband Buck by her side.
 
Eileen was born in Washington D.C. on September 6th, 1943, to James and Jean Torillo. Eileen and her sisters, Evelyn and Carla, spent much of their life in the Washington D.C. and Maryland area. They were a close knit and loving family.

Eileen spent twenty years of her life dedicated to her career as the Vice President of human resources at Newark Electronics in Chicago, Illinois. Her love for new challenges led her to spend four years living in England to start up Newark’s operations overseas. She was an active member of the Chicago Stratford Upon Avon Shakespeare group. Where she enjoyed seeing plays and making friends who also enjoyed the theatre. 

After retiring, she moved to the Clinton area in 2007 where she met the love of her life, Buck Carter. The two met when attending a school function for their grandchildren and it was love at first sight. They were married on December 27th, 2008. They lived a beautiful life together on their 20-acre farm in Clinton. They both loved having family spend time with them. They loved to sit in their sunroom and watch their horses along with watching the beautiful birds. 

Eileen was the proud mother of two daughters, Stacey Moore (Dave), Naperville, IL, and Megan Myers (Kevin), Clinton, IL. 

She was affectionately known as 'Noni' to her grandchildren: Kayla (Brent), Madeleine (Tyler), Tallon (Krista), Malorie (Tyler), and Tamsin. Her great grandchildren include Jack, Addy, Violet, Quinn, and Fiona. Family was always the most important part of Eileen's life. 

Together Eileen and Buck were also very involved with the Clinton Community Education Foundation, which helped raise money for items that the local schools needed as well as scholarships for students. 

Eileen is survived by her husband, daughters, grand and great grandchildren along with her sisters, a niece and nephews and extended family through her marriage to Buck.

Honoring Eileen's wishes, no formal services will be held. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Calvert Funeral home in Clinton, Illinois. Memorials may be made in honor of Eileen to the Clinton Community Education Foundation.

Marilyn Riley

Marilyn Riley July 3, 1933 – August 7, 2025

 

Marilyn Riley was born July 3, 1933, the 7th child of Rolla and Emma.  She married Carl Riley September 1949 in Decatur, Il. She passed away August 7, 2025 at Randall Residence, Decatur, Il.

 

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Carl, two infant daughters, and her six siblings.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Bill) Gentry, and her son Tom (Donna) Riley, four         Grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

 

Marilyn was blessed to have the love and excellent care of Randall Residence and Elara Caring Hospice. She was given a loving home at Randall Residence, as especially Lisa, Beth, Debra, and many others too numerous to mention not only met her needs through the years but treated her like their own family. Elara Caring Hospice became a Godsend to Marilyn and her family when times got hard. Marilyn’s family will always be grateful to Desiree`, Nikki, Troy, and the many others from Elara who touched Marilyn’s life. Thanks, seems to fall woefully short of expressing the gratitude of Marilyn’s family for the many unselfish, caring, and compassionate acts of those at Randall Residence and Elara Caring Hospice.

 

There will be a private graveside service, led by Pastor Scott Marsh of Texas Christian Church for family and caregivers. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Il with arrangements.

Debra F. Douin 61 of Clinton, IL passed away 10:03 A.M. August 4, 2025 at her family residence, Clinton, IL.

Debra was born October 24, 1963 in Morehead, KY the daughter of John and Faye (Christian) Lewis. She married Thomas G. Douin April 5, 1986 in Clinton, IL.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas G. Douin, Clinton, IL, mother, Faye Lewis, Clinton, IL; daughter, Mallie (Chris) Pyles, Goodfield, IL; 4 grandchildren, McKinley, Oakleigh, Maverick and Quincy, sister, Jackie (Rodney) Hunt, Clinton, IL. Along with several nephews and nieces.

Debra was preceded in death by her father.

Debra enjoyed music, sports and walking on the beach. Most of all, Debra loved spending time with her grandchildren.

John R. Boyer

John R. Boyer, 86 of Heyworth, IL passed away 9:15 PM August 5, 2025 at his home in Heyworth, IL.

Services will be 6 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Adam Brucker officiating. Graveside services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at the Ohio Cemetery, West Union, IL. Visitation will be 4-6 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at the funeral home.

John was born March 16, 1939 in rural Clark County, IL the son of Russel and Ruth (Arbuckle) Boyer. He married Gladys J. Waren June 12, 1965 in Catlin, IL. She passed away August 13, 2017.

Survivors include his children, Leigh (Larry Ulrey) Kimmel, Indianapolis, IN; Brian Russell Boyer, Bloomington, IL; Kevin Thomas (Angela) Boyer, Bloomington, IL; Brad Allen Boyer, San Jose, CA; two grandchildren, Joanna Lynn Boyer and Joshua John Boyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James A. Boyer.

Over his long life, John Boyer was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, and a grandfather. He worked in a variety of agricultural fields, from Co-operative Extension and Soil Conservation Service to teaching agriculture, selling seed corn and farming for many years. He also was a surveyor and a security guard and proudly served his country in the US Army as a signal analyst in Korea near the DMZ.

After retiring, he and his wife Gladys Boyer decided to move to Heyworth, where they could be closer to their rural roots. He was active in his community and with his family, particularly his two grandchildren. He forged strong bonds with his neighbors and kept up his connections with extended family, regularly attending family reunions. He was a generous donor to a number of causes, from First Christian Church of Clinton and the University of Illinois to veterans' charities and Indian schools.

As his wife of five decades began to struggle with memory and it became clear she was suffering from a neurodegenerative condition; he took care of her for the next four years.  His dedicated caregiving enabled her to live the rest of her life in her own home, including home hospice care at the end.

For the next eight years he would continue to live in the home they had shared, hosting family holiday gatherings for his children and grandchildren. He maintained close ties with his neighbors and with the church.

Now that he is gone, we find that he has left a painful hole in our hearts.

Merline (Clifton) Hartness

Merline (Clifton) Hartness, 86, of Gilbert, Arizona, formerly of Clinton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, at Savanna House in Gilbert. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior and to be reunited with her beloved son, Mark.

Merline was born on May 20, 1939, in Clinton, Illinois, to Mearl Dean Clifton and Louise (Birge) Clifton, farmers in DeWitt County. She and her siblings, Darrell (deceased) and Ann, were raised with the blessings of rural life, where she learned the value of hard work and the strength of community ties. She excelled in sewing, cooking, and singing in the church choir, and was voted Homecoming Queen her senior year at Clinton High School.

She married Samuel Lee Hartness (deceased), and together they raised three sons: John Hartness, Paul Hartness, and Mark Hartness (deceased).

Survivors include her sister, Ann Goodmon, and Ann’s husband, Jack; their sons, Patrick Goodmon (Cyndi) and Andrew Goodmon (Heather); her son, John Hartness, and his wife, Beth; their children, Hannah Tucker (TJ), Jordan Rolik (Scott), and Marc Hartness (Emily); three great-grandchildren; her son, Paul Hartness; and her niece, Lee Anna (Hartness) Duck.

Merline was known as a hard worker, a loyal friend, and someone who never hesitated to lend a helping hand or bake a Texas sheet cake for someone in need. She had a soft spot for animals and found joy in simple moments shared with family and a good cup of coffee. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Clinton, Illinois, and a proud member of the Salt Creek Patchworkers quilting club. She deeply loved faith, family, quilting, and football, especially the Chicago Bears.

Honoring Merline’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, Illinois.

E. Dale Wade

E. Dale Wade 90 of Maroa, IL passed away 7:12 P.M. August 4, 2025 at the Warner Hospital & Health Services, Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be 11 AM, Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with David Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Visitation will be 10-11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.  The family requests casual attire.

Dale was born April 20, 1935 in Clinton, IL the son of Marshall and Ethel (Clary) Wade. He married Margie L. Hamblin August 10, 1953 in Normal, IL.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, 1 brother, and one grandson.

 

Dale was a truck driver for most of his life.

Linda D. Foster Terrell

Bloomington – Linda D. Foster Terrell, 60, of Bloomington, formerly of Waynesville, passed away at her home on Thursday, July 31, 2025, following a two-year battle with cancer.

Private funeral services were held with burial at the McLean Cemetery.

Linda was born February 19, 1965, the daughter of Carl “Corky” L. and Patricia A. Englemann Foster.

Linda is survived by her husband, Kevin Terrell and their son, Jacob Terrell Foster.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Linda was a 1983 graduate of Olympia High School, followed by degrees from Illinois State University, Decatur Area Vocational, and Bloomington School of Radiology. She had worked as a nurse, radiology tech, and phlebotomist. Linda also held a realtor’s license and had worked for Berkshire-Hathaway Real Estate. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of Waynesville United Methodist Church.

Final arrangements were entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.

James R. McPeek

James "Jim" McPeek, age 65, passed away on July 17, 2025, at Carles Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. He was born on July 26, 1959, in Clinton, Illinois, to the late James McPeek and Bessie Lucille Followell.

 

Jim was a dedicated professional, working in construction and as a mechanic. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed the hands-on nature of his occupations, often spending his free time working on cars and houses. His passion for mechanics was matched only by his love for adventure; Jim was an avid motorcycle rider and had a special fondness for attending races, where he could indulge his love for speed and excitement.

 

He is survived by his three beloved children: Aalieya Mitchell, James McPeek, and Jason McPeek. He is also remembered by his brother, Jacob McPeek, and his sister, Sabrina Peavler.

 

Jim was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Cheryl McPeek, along with his parents, James McPeek and Bessie Lucille Followell. Jim's warm spirit, generous heart, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
