Wayne R. Kaufman 81 of Argenta, Illinois passed away on March 25, 2012. Mr. Kaufman was born in Argenta, the son of Jesse H. and Esther Hiser Kaufman on October 24, 1930. He was employed as a brick mason and was a Life Member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers with more then 50 years of service. He was also a retired farmer. He spent much of his life as a volunteer serving on the Argenta Volunteer Fire Department as a fireman and later serving as board member until his death. He was a member of the Jaycees and the Argenta Civic Club volunteering numerous hours toward making improvements throughout the community of Argenta. He and his wife Evelyn were members of the Boots and Bows Square Dance Club and he also enjoyed attending auctions. Michael W. Hyde, 39, of Monticello, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012. Mike was born on December 12, 1972 in Urbana, the son of Dale Walter and Mary Belle (Schoonover) Hyde. He married Tonya Rigney on November 7, 2005 in Monticello. Mike is survived by his wife; Tonya Hyde of Monticello, son; Austin Allen Michael Hyde of Monticello, step-daughters; Lindsey Gail Franklin and Lauren Paige Franklin both of Monticello, stepson; Tyler Stephen Corell of Florida, parents; Dale Hyde of Champaign and Mary Hyde of Urbana, grandmother; Jean Hyde of Rantoul, sisters; Lorrie J. (Sean) Eckstein of Tolono and Paula M. (David) Gaddis of Pesotum. Mike worked as an electrician for the City of Monticello. He was a member of the Monticello Masonic Lodge #58 AF&AM, a volunteer on the Monticello Fire Department, and a Monticello Kids Club Wrestling Coach. Mike graduated from Parkland College with an Associate in Applied Science Electronic Control System Technology degree on December 20, 2003. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, and golfing. Mike never met a stranger and he loved spending time with his family. She attended graduate school at Columbia University, NYC during the summers of 1938 and 1939. She received a Masters degree from UIUC in 1965. Vernette taught high school Home Economics in Superior, WI, Argenta-Oreana, and Maroa-Forsyth High Schools. Vernette was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle. She attended exercise class there until she was 95. She was also active in the Monticello Women's Club and the Piatt County Association for Home and Community Education. She volunteered at the Piatt County Nursing Home for 30 years. She traveled extensively both within the United States and abroad and went on 27 Elderhostel (Road Scholar) Tours. Judith Ann (Benson) McGarrigle, Age 70, Passed away on Friday March 9, 2012 at the Home and Hospice Care of R.I. with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. McGarrigle. Born in Milan, Tennessee, daughter of the late Ivan and Alma Jean (Crisman) Benson. She worked in Food Service for RIARC for 18 years, prior to retiring. Judith enjoyed spending time with her family. She often stated "Her contribution to life was raising her children right, to make their contributions to the world." Judith was a firm believer in the Guardian Angel, and several times called upon her to help others in their time of need. She is survived by five children, Antoinette "Tony" McGarrigle, of Woonsocket, Angela S. McGarrigle and her companion Andrew Orr, of Maine, Joseph P. McGarrigle and wife Lisa of Pennsylvania, Mary Jean and husband Scott Fenner, of Florida, William I. Charles D. Schroth, 78, of Latham, IL died at 11:25 A.M. Sunday March 4, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He is also survived by three sisters, Norma Shehorn of Mt. Pulaski, IL, Carol (Larry) Alsup of Beason, IL, and Sonia (Paul) Heft of Kenney, IL, as well as twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth Hawk, brother Dean Schroth, son in law Dennis Aughenbaugh, great granddaughter Jule Russo and great grandson Jacob Green. Charles was a retired farm laborer, a member and past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion Post #447 of Mt. Pulaski, a Mt. Pulaski and Chestnut baseball little league coach, he was the last surviving member of the Board of Directors who had the foresight and who purchased the ground for the Warrensburg Sportsman Club, Past President of the Chestnut Men's Club, and a diehard Chicago Cubs fan and never missed a game. There will be a celebration of life held from 4-8:00 P.M. on Friday March 9, 2012 at the Mt. Pulaski American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Charles Schroth family. Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski will be conducting services.

Leland D. “Lee” Massey, 76, Farmer City, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday (March 1, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. A private family graveside service will be Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City, with a family friend, the Rev. C. Don Ferrill, officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Farmer City. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, is in charge of arrangements.
