Jesse was born September 4, 1952 in Clinton, IL the son of Lyle and Hazel Louise (Booker) Hammer.

 

Survivors include his sons, Don (Bonnie) Hammer, Clinton, IL and Doug (Kristen) Hammer, LeRoy, IL; life partner and fiancée, Karen Thompson, Fort Myers, FL; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, Terry (Cori) Hammer, Clinton, IL, Ronnie (Irene) Hammer, Davis Junction, IL, and Will (April) Hammer, Washington, IL; and five stepsiblings Penny, Jackie, Kenny, Kelly, and Julie.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Jesse was a millwright most of his life and loved fishing.

Richard E. Young

Richard E. Young, 70, of Maroa, IL passed away at 7:43 PM, November 23, 2022 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

 

Services will be 2 PM, Monday, November 28, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating.  Burial will follow at Maroa Cemetery, Maroa, IL.  Visitation will be 2 – 4 PM, Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.

Richard was born October 11, 1952 in Decatur, IL the son of Clarence and Roberta L. (Rogers) Young.  He married Barbara McCool on October 17, 1970 in Forsyth, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Young, Maroa, IL; children:  Christopher Young, Maroa, IL; Bradly (Nichole) Young, Forsyth, IL; and Stephanie (Richard) Young-Laswell, Maroa, IL; six grandchildren:  Bryson, Houston, Tatum, Caden, Evan, and Beau; and two great-grandchildren, Braxton and Dallas; brothers:  Roger (Sherryl) Young, Maroa, IL; Charles (Pam) Young, Forsyth, IL; and Curtis (Kim) Young, Maroa, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Richard was a lifelong resident of Maroa.  He served the City of Maroa as a fireman for 17 years, city councilman for 20 years, and mayor for 10 years.  Richard retired from Caterpillar Tractor after 43 years of service.  He owned and operated Young Construction for many years and was the previous owner of the Mobil Station in Maroa.  Richard donated the land for Young Park in Maroa.  He was a fan of Maroa-Forsyth football.

Alma Marilyn "Margie" Sweazy

Alma Marilyn “Margie” Sweazy, 96 of Clinton, IL passed away peacefully on November 20, 2022, at Warner Hospital & Health Services, Clinton, IL.

Born on September 24, 1926, in Macon, GA, Margie was the daughter of the late Rufus Quay and Alma (Quinlan) Collins. At the young age of 6 years old, Margie and her mother traveled across the country by car with a destination of San Diego, CA.

With a love of tap dancing, Margie grew up to be a professional dancer with the USO. She took pride in performing for the troops during WWII.

She met her devoted husband George E. Sweazy while he was in bootcamp in San Diego. Margie and George corresponded during his time serving overseas in WWII. They were married upon his return to the US on December 16, 1945. They shared 63 years of marriage until his passing in 2008.  Margie and George loved winters spent in Hawaii, and summers in Clinton, IL. These times were made special during the many occasions their grandsons joined them.

Margie was a real estate agent in Illinois and Hawaii. She also worked at Revere Copper and Brass, Clinton, IL for 10 years. 

Margie was a brilliant and talented artist. She created and hand painted stunning ceramic works of art. Following a once in a lifetime fine arts trip to China, she built a studio in her home and began teaching and hosting classes specializing in her love of painting and ceramics.

Margie leaves behind her beloved son, Larry (Kilmer) Sweazy, Swampscott, MA; cherished grandsons, Austin Sweazy, Swampscott, MA and Dustin (Carolyn) Sweazy, Nahant, MA; and four treasured great-grandchildren:  A. J. and Rosie Sweazy, Swampscott, MA and Sunny and Dylan Sweazy, Nahant, MA.

Margie’s family is most grateful for the community of care takers and those that assisted and supported her over many years. 

Visitation will be 10 - 11 AM, Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the Calvert Funeral Home, 201 S. Center Street Clinton, IL, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM, with Rev. Fr. James Owusu-Yeboah, SMA celebrant. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL.

Debra Elaine Bateson

Debra Elaine Bateson, 61 of Clinton, IL passed away 7:00 PM November 18, 2022 at her home in Clinton, IL surrounded by her family.

 

Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, November 28, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM Monday at the funeral home.

Debbie was born December 17, 1960 in Streator, IL the daughter of Francis and Janice (Gochanour) Harlacher. She married Charles R. Bateson, March 27, 1982 in Streator, IL. He passed away October 26, 2010. Debbie was a graduate of Streator High School and attended the Illinois Valley Community College, receiving her CNA certification.

 

Survivors include her children, Emily (Preston Dash) Pruitt, Clinton, IL and Charles J. (Shelbi) Bateson, Wapella, IL; grandchildren, Joseph (Deann) Strange, Kaitlin Pruitt, Savannah Miller, Carter, Cash, and Colyton Tanner; siblings, Marlene (Bob) Horton, Streator, IL, Peggy (Don) Kleppin, Rutland, IL, Brenda (Jim) Lewis, Streator, IL, Cheryl (Greg) Drysdale, Streator, IL, and Terry Harlacher, Streator, IL.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph; brother, Gary; sister, Kathy; and brother-in-law, Tim.

 

Debbie belonged to the First Christian Church in Clinton. She enjoyed her Ladies’ Sunday School Class and volunteering in the church when she was able. She also enjoyed making crafts and participating in the Farmers Market.

Mary T. Pacholski, 75, of DeLand, IL passed away at 7:06 AM, November 16, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

 

Services will be 10 AM, Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand, IL with Msgr. Michael Bliss officiating.  Burial will follow at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL.  There will be no visitation.

 

Mary was born October 14, 1947 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Gawron) Pacholski.

 

Survivors include her siblings:  Virginia Duggar, St. Augustine, FL; Raymond (June) Pacholski, Homewood, IL; Barbara Pacholski, Crown Point, IN; Elizabeth Pacholski, Indianapolis, IN; Marcella Pacholski, Calumet City, IL; David J. Pacholski, DeLand, IL; and Teresa (Daniel) O’Neal, DeLand, IL.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dolores Pacholski.

Julia "Jackie" J. Twyman

Atlanta – Julia “Jackie” J. Twyman, 85, of Atlanta, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

Funeral Services for Jackie will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church in Atlanta. Rev. Larry Collins will officiate.

Cremation Rites will follow. Burial will be at the Atlanta Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Julia J. McKown was born April 12, 1937, in Bloomington, the daughter of Jack and Julia Reinmiller McKown.

Jackie is survived by her children: Debbie Davis and Robert (Elizabeth) Twyman; four grandchildren: Amber (Jason) Reynolds, Alyssa (Josh) Smith, Ashley (Joe) Davis and Brock Twyman; Austin Key, Ethan Smith, Addision Davis, Cooper Smith, and Joel Reynolds; two sisters: Linda Orrick and Susan Hoblit; and three brothers: Jim (Jackie) McKown, Rick McKown and Alex Hoblit.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Sam Hoblit; one sister, Diane Hoblit, one sister-in-law, Sharon McKown; and son-in-law, Jim Davis.

Jackie had worked as a silk screener in Auburn for Dickey-John. She was a 1955 graduate of the Atlanta High School and a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church. Jackie loved cats and dogs, and gardening.

Shirley A. Torbert Scogin

Wapella -- Shirley A. Torbert Scogin, 80, of Wapella, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Carle BroMenn Hospital in Normal.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral home in Atlanta with Mr. Ernie Harvey officiating. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Shirley Ann Torbert was born on December 24, 1941, in Clinton, the daughter of Clarence S. “Dude” and Dixie Baughman Torbert. She was first united in marriage to Bill Ledbetter on September 5, 1956. She later married Charles Scogin on July 4, 1986. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2000.

Shirley is survived by her daughters: Lori (Dan Osborn) Murphy and Karen Underwood, four grandchildren: Jeremy (Kitiara Lancaster) Underwood, Jill (Wes) Foster, Candi (Jake) Taylor, and Samantha (Caleb) Ballew; twelve great-grandchildren: Ethan Foster, Mason Foster, Amber Foster, Ruger Underwood, Mailee Underwood, Remington Underwood, Gatling Underwood, Kimber Underwood, Dylan Taylor, Kylie Taylor, Maci Ballew, and Charli Ballew; one brother, John (Denise) Torbert; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; and one brother, Skip Torbert; one sister, Etta Hill; and one great-grandson, Hunter Underwood.

Shirley worked for Clinton Power Station and Thrall Car Manufacturing as Executive Secretary to the Plant Manager. Upon her retirement, she moved to Palisade, Colorado, where she lived for 11 years. Shirley was a fifty-plus years member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Wapella Christian Church. Her grandkids and great-grandkids were the lights of her life and she loved them very much. She enjoyed visiting Hawaii, eating sweets, watching the Hallmark Channel, and drinking coffee.

Vona J. LaDew

Delavan – Vona J. LaDew, 88, of Delavan, formerly of Waynesville, passed away at her home on Monday, November 7, 2022.

Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Graveside Services at the Evergreen Cemetery in Waynesville will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022, with Rev. Tami Werschey-Kessinger officiating.

Vona Jean Moore was born April 3, 1934, in Clinton, the daughter of Ivan S. and Merna Borders Moore. She was united in marriage to Daniel LaDew on December 31, 1954. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1977.

She is survived by her children: Steve (Katherine) LaDew, Sheldon (Linda) LaDew, Laura Smith, and Nathan LaDew; four grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norma Ingold.

Vona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.

Vona was a 1952 graduate and valedictorian of Waynesville High School. She retired from Burns & Company where she had worked as office manager. She was of the Methodist Faith. Vona loved to dance so much that she earned the nickname, “Vona Jean, the Dancing Machine.”

Albion John “Al” Brown 58 of Weldon, IL passed away 7:20 PM November 11, 2022 at his family residence in Weldon, IL.

Al was born September 15, 1964 in Effingham, IL the son of Norman Lewis and Mary Lou (Henon) Brown. He married Christi Lynn Schmidt August 12, 1994 in Boonville, MO.

 

Survivors include his mother, Mary Lou Bly, Decatur, IL; wife, Christi Lynn Brown, Weldon, IL; children, Tyler Haller, Clinton, IL, Chelbi (Nathan) Lippert, Clinton, IL, Albion John “A.J.” Brown, Jr., Clinton, IL; grandchildren:  Nevada Dunlap, Liam Haller, Elizabeth Gravitt, Scarlett Haller, Lydia Radford, and Chloe Lippert; siblings:  Jackie Brown, Alabama, and Norman (Mary) Brown, Tennessee.

 

Al was preceded in death by his father.

 

Al served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Clinton, IL and the American Legion.  Al worked at Encore where he enjoyed helping their clients.  Al loved to draw and travel.  He never knew a stranger, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Jane was born March 29, 1943 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Grover Lee “Slim” and Leora Jean (Armstrong) Carter. She married Carroll Wills April 27, 1981. He passed away March 4, 2004.

 

Survivors include her children: Anna Jeanette (Jim) Cramer, Farmer City, IL; John Mark Wickenhauser, Champaign, IL; and Lisa-Anne (Jason) McKinzey, Clinton, IL; step-children: Mark (Gloria) Wills, Farmer City, IL and Lisa Wills, Bloomington, IL; grandchildren: Jeremy (Jeanie) Lindstrom, Adam Lindstrom, Cory Lindstrom, and Chelsea (Austin) Ellrick; two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; siblings: Robert (Patricia) Carter, Tolono, IL; and Bill (Debby) Carter, Nokomis, FL.

Jane retired from Ameren Illinois. She enjoyed quilting and gardening, but most of all, Jane loved spending time with her family.

Kathy E. "Jo Jo" Hubbard

Kathy E. (Jojo) Hubbard of Kenney, IL went home to Jesus on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the age of 67.

 

She was born to Tracy Elwood Harman and Ruby Lucille Tate on July 6, 1955, in Beckley, WV.

 

Jojo was married to Richard Lee Powell on July 27, 1987. She had two children:  Scott Hubbard, and Tracy Barth. She had four beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend, Linda Marsh of Kenney, IL, whom she called “mom”.

 

Jojo fought a brave battle against Parkinson’s disease for sixteen years. Throughout the years of increasing disability, she never complained, never fell into self-pity, never lost her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She maintained a wonderful sense of humor and was quick with a smile and laughter.

 

Jojo was a member of Texas Christian Church in Clinton, IL. A celebration of life will be held at the church on Saturday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with cremation rites.

Joseph Franklin Fever

On Friday, November 4, 2022, Joseph Franklin Fever, loving husband, father, grampa and friend, passed away at the age of 65. Joe was born on January 17, 1957, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Dean & Wilma (Pulliam) Fever, he married his wife, Joyce (Decker) on September 30, 1978, raised two kids, Jennifer Steiner (husband, Robert) of Norwalk, CT and Jacob Fever (wife, Kali) of Bloomington, IL, and enjoyed three grandchildren, Jase (9), Ava (8), and Kara (5).

 

Joe was always a hard worker, starting in Bloomington, IL at the Firestone plant as a tire builder, where he worked until transferring to the Decatur Firestone Plant. In 1991, he started his next career as an Environmental Health & Safety Manager before retiring after 28 years. He started with the Argenta-Oreana Fire Department in 1986, serving as Chief from 1992-2008. Joe very much enjoyed a good beach, a warm day, being with his family, laughing with his grandchildren and spending time at the family farm. 

 

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma, his father, Dean, and his two brothers Daniel and Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his children, grandchildren, cousins, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Calvert Funeral Home in Maroa, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 am-12:00 pm, prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Maroa Township Cemetery.

Delores Jo Ann Runyen 81 of Maroa, IL passed away 8:50 PM September 4, 2022 at her family residence, Maroa, IL.

Jo was born September 4, 1941 in Macon County, IL the daughter of Gilbert and Alice (Armstrong) Florey. She married Robert L. “Bob” Runyen, Sr. May of 1968 in Macon County, IL.

 

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. “Bob” Runyen, Sr., Maroa, IL, children, Connie V. (Morris L.) Johnson, Decatur, IL; Lee Allen Runyen, Aurora, MO; Alice Shutt, Maroa, IL, grandchildren, Andy; Quentin; Joshua (Heather); Nicholis (Carrie); Anthony; Christopher; and Alta, great grandchildren, Jordan; Landen; Liam; Leigha; Haley, Dylan, and Memphis.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Lee Runyen, Jr; and sister, Nancy Day.

 

Jo retired from home healthcare and had also worked doing housekeeping for the Allens.  She was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Decatur.

Mary Louise White

Mary Louise White, 78, of Argenta, IL entered Eternal Life with her Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Funeral services for Mary Lou will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Argenta Baptist Church, Argenta, IL with Pastor Gary Bauerle officiating. Mary Lou will be laid to rest in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL immediately following the services. There will be no visitation. Mary Lou was born in Decatur, IL to Marvin and Mary O. (Hamell) Laws. She married Robert Dale “Bob” White on December 15, 1963 in Decatur, IL. She was a long-time member of the Argenta Baptist Church, faithfully and joyfully serving in many capacities.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years Robert Dale “Bob” White of Argenta, IL; sons, Joseph (Kathy) White of Edinburg, IL, Doug White and significant other, Rhonda Rade, of Oakley, IL; grandchildren, Rachel (Chad) Allen of Jefferson, GA, Spenser (Tina) White of Harristown, IL, Jaason White of Argenta, IL, Travis (Christi) Knoth and Rachel Wallace both of Kentucky; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara McElroy of Assumption, IL.

Merida L. Drake

Beason – Merida L. Drake, 98, of Lincoln, formerly of Beason, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Drake will be on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lincoln United Methodist Church. Rev. Tami Werschey-Kessinger and Mr. Ryan Edgecombe will officiate. Burial will follow at the Harmony Cemetery in rural Beason.

Visitation will be at the church prior to the funeral services from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Merida Lorene Bivin was born March 7, 1924, in Girard, Illinois, the daughter of Lowell L. and Joyce V. Walden Bivin. She was united in marriage to David L. Drake on Nov. 6, 1943. They were married for over 60 years, until his death on Oct. 2, 2004.

She is survived by four children: Warren (Geraldine) Drake, Harold (Nancy) Drake, Martha (John) Bunzey, and Laura (Marc) Enger; eight grandchildren: Sheryl Drake, Robert (Amber) Drake, Doug Drake, Erin (Rahul) Prakash, Michael (Diane) Enger, David “Sig” (Laura) Enger, Melanie (Kevin) Jones, and Liz (Tom) Pratt; eleven great-grandchildren: Lillian, Tommy, Julia, Opal, Lucia, Otto, Isla, Wally, Marc, Carter, and Elise; and one sister, Myrabel Theobald.

Merida was preceded in death by her husband, and three grandchildren: Belle Drake, Curtis Drake, and Kevin Klee.

Merida was a 1941 graduate of Tri-City High School in Buffalo, IL and then studied for one year at Brown’s Business College. She was a member of the Beason United Methodist Church where she directed the children's choir for many years, along with United Methodist Women, East Oran Home Bureau and Logan County Home Extension. She and her husband began farming together in the Beason area when he returned from serving in WWII. She also worked for Fuller Seed Company as a secretary.

Jon Robert Whitrock

Jon Robert Whitrock, 79, of Clinton, IL passed away October 29, 2022 at John Warner Hospital, Clinton, IL.

Jon was born December 15, 1942 in Decatur, IL, the son of Ernest and Nell M (Griffith) Whitrock.

Jon was a security guard for Securitas and had also served as a DJ for WHOW. He was a member of the Baha’i Faith. Jon was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous achieving 30 plus years sobriety. He had authored a book concerning 12 Step Recovery and the Baha’i Faith.

During his leisure time, Jon was an avid stamp collector, loved reading and had been known to be a talented trumpet player.

Surviving are his siblings, Clinton Whitrock (Ellen) of Decatur, IL, Charlotte Kraft of Decatur, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Clifford Whitrock (Mary).

Graveside funeral service will be held 10 AM Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials: Alcoholics Anonymous or Alzheimer's Foundation.
