Darrell E. “Fog” Fogerson, 70 of Monticello, IL., formerly of Bement, IL., passed away at 6:49 A.M., on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at his residence in Monticello, IL.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Bement United Methodist Church, 249 N. Piatt St., Bement, IL. Masonic services will begin at 12 Noon followed by the funeral services. The Masonic services will be conducted by the Atwood Masonic Lodge. Ruby E. Hendrix, 93, of Monticello, passed away at 5:43 p.m., January 29, 2013 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Ruby was born on August 29, 1919 in La Place, IL, the daughter of Irl Chester and Bernice Madeline (Duncan) Robinson. She married Bernard L. “Beanie” Hendrix on April 18, 1942 in St. Louis, MO. He passed away August 13, 1987.

Survivors include her sons; Terry (Connie) Hendrix of Monticello and Dennis (Mary) Hendrix of Shelbyville, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a sister; Mildred Bohlen of Decatur, and faithful and loving care giver; Bert Hite. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother (Harold Robinson).

Ruby worked as secretary for Illinois Power and Caterpillar. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, Monticello United Methodist Women, Piatt County Home Extension for 60 years, Piatt County Farm Bureau, Haneline Club, and Kirby Hospital Auxiliary. Along with being a wonderful homemaker, outstanding cook, and volunteer, she enjoyed crafts, gardening, and was an Illini basketball fan.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Courtright officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m., Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery. Carl Dean Davidson was born September 23, 1934 in Sparta, IL. He left this life gently and peacefully January 26, 2013 to rejoice forever in the glory of Jesus Christ. Carl’s deeply devoted wife was with him every day, doing as he always did for us; comforting him and showing him he was loved. At all times she was strong and kept her faith in Christ, walking in prayer and testament to God’s strength.

Carl will be dearly missed by his wife: Ruth; his 3 children: Vicki (Mark) Whitted, Trina (Chris) Weikel and Kelly (Susie) Davidson; his sister Patty (Lenny) Serio. His other sister, Norma Jean met him in heaven. To his 6 grandchildren: Damon (Kym), Jansen (Rachael), Marcus (Joanne), Evan, Allison, and Sara and his 5 great grandchildren: Jace, Owen, Tate, Raef and Aubrey, he was “Pawpaw”. He was loving, caring and always funny.

In the last few months, God sent an angel actually named Gabriel, a caregiver all the way from Africa, who instantly brought compassion and blessings to Carl and his family. Gabriel was our reminder that God was with us, especially in the hard times, and God does more than we could ever imagine.

Carl had a kind soul and gentle heart and spent many happy hours golfing, hunting and fishing with friends and family. Another joy in his life and soft spot in his heart was his little dog, Sophie, his constant and faithful companion, always being petted and talked to. During Carl’s 42 years at Caterpillar, he was respected for his excellent work, honesty and diligence. At the same time everyday when work was done, he came home to his family.

We are grateful for our time spent with him and for all the blessings his life left for us. We will always love him, and some day we will all be together again because of our acceptance of Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Walter O. “Skip” Mann Jr., 75, Wapella, died Thursday (Jan. 24, 2013) at his winter home in Leesburg, Fla.

Jerry Nelson, 71, of Mount Zion passed away Saturday (Jan. 19, 2013) in his home.

Jerry was born May 30, 1941, in Waynesville, the son of Gerald and Ina Wampler Nelson. He retired from Caterpillar as a welder. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his son, Robert Nelson, Mount Zion; daughter, Jackie Hummel, New Jersey; sisters, Shirley (Bill) Langoff, Bloomington; and Rita Heiberg, Bloomington; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jeanette Foreman.

Honoring Jerry’s wishes, cremation will take place at Graceland/Fairlawn Crematory. Service will be private.

She was born Sept. 19, 1935, in Springfield, daughter of Wilbur Meteer and Grace Dobson. She married Robert Inman in 1956 and he passed away in 1960. She later married Paul E. Fabris on Aug. 27, 1961.

Surviving are her husband, Paul E. Fabris, Clinton; sons, Donald E. (Julie) Fabris, Fond du Lac, Wis., and Larry L. (Regina) Fabris, Clinton; four grandchildren, Isaac, Logan, Sarah and Lauren Fabris; one brother, William (Pat) Meteer, Athen; and  brother-in-law, Tom Ostermeier, Athens. Also surviving are three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Donna Jean Ostermeier.

Carol attended the Jacksonville School for the Deaf. She was an avid Cubs fan and she enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family and her cats.

Louise was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Shelbyville, the daughter of John H. and Leota M. Fisher Lape. During her many years, she worked in the Maroa school cafeteria, Clinton High School office, Wallace Press, Fitzgerald Jewelry, Loves Clothing Store and Dis n Dat. She loved being with family and values her many friends of all ages. Over the years, she enjoyed collecting antiques. She married Gloyd E. Archey on April 1, 1938. He passed away Jan. 16, 1968.

Surviving are son, Gary G. (Sandy) Archey of Clinton; stepdaughters, Helen Ann (Max) Williams and Doris (Dean) Rothrock, both of Shelbyville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Ralph E. Schmidt, 98, Lincoln, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013) at Christian Village, Lincoln.

Ralph was born June 28, 1914, in Lincoln, the son of Frederick W. and Clara L. Baker Schmidt. He married Viola Johnson on Jan. 10, 1946. She preceded him in death July 24, 2000. He then married Opal Van Pelt on June 15, 2002. She survives in Lincoln.

Ralph is also survived by his son, Floyd Frederick (Christine) Schmidt, Lincoln; one stepdaughter, Rea (David) Lovell, Shorewood; grandchildren, Tyler (Sarah) Schmidt; Heidi (Scott) Watson; and Abigail and Clara Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Tayler, Cohan and Ireland; and one brother, David Schmidt, Chicago.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Alvin and Les, and one sister, Ruth.

Ralph is retired from farming and teaching and being a tax practitioner. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, having served on the church council for 16 years. He was chairman of congregation in 1960 and laid cornerstone in 1963.

He served in the U.S. Army as an aviation engineer from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of Elks Lodge 914, Disabled American Veterans 95, American Legion Post 263, AmVets 71, 40 & 8 Brotherhood.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Thomas R. Kamprath officiating. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln, with full military rites accorded by Lincoln American Legion Post 263. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Mary L. McNeil Weingart, 85, Wapella, formerly of Morris and Branson, Mo., passed away Wednesday morning (Jan. 9, 2013) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, with her family by her side.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator, with the Rev. Benjamin Keller officiating. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Marc, Todd, Scott and Craig McNeil; Jason Funk; Matt McPartlin; and Kevin Brinker.

A visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Long Point, daughter of Alonzo and Ella Mae Hughes LeVelle. She married Leonard “Mick” McNeil. He passed away Sept. 1, 1966. She later married Leo Weingart. He passed away May 17, 2011.

Surviving are son, Leonard (Phyllis) McNeil, and daughter, Terry (Brian) Funk, both of Funks Grove; three stepsons, Steven Weingart, Missouri; Jeff (Christi) Weingart, Wisconsin; and Phillip (Brenda) Weingart, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Marc McNeil, Todd (Liz) McNeil, Scott (Lara) McNeil, Craig McNeil, Kevin Brinker, Jamie (Matt) McPartlin, Jill (Jamie Nelson) Salems, Jason Funk and Jennifer Funk; two great-grandchildren, Maddux McPartlin and Ellie McNeil; and sister, Betty (Gordon) Beutke, West Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arnold, Steve and Wayne LeVelle, and sisters, Evelyn Small and Edith Jackson.

Mary was the former owner of the Prince Drive In and Mick’s Quick Chick, both located in Morris, and Quick Chick in Streator. She was also a waitress for many years in Branson, Mo.

She attended Long Point Grade School and graduated from Long Point High School. Mary was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Branson, Mo., and presently attended Clinton Presbyterian Church, Clinton.

Mary had a great love for flowers, rocks and gardening. Mary loved spending time with her loving family and will be greatly missed by all who  knew and loved her.

Harold R. Shaffer, 83, of Monticello, passed away on January 8, 2013 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Harold was born on December 12, 1929 in Bloomington, IL the son of Ralph and Esther (Beckhart) Shaffer. He married Joanne K. Wittig on September 18, 1956 in Monticello, IL.

Surviving is his wife, Joanne Shaffer of Monticello, a sister Marie O’Hea of La Mesa, CA. and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Harold served four years in the U.S. Navy and four years in the U.S. Army. He served at the end of WW II and during the Korean Conflict. Joanne and Harold lived in Alaska for 20 years where Harold retired as an expeditor for a barge line ready mix company. Harold really loved and enjoyed the cabin that he built him and Joanne to use as getaway for recreational purposes. Harold enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, and the outdoors. Upon retirement he and Joanne moved back to Monticello and Harold worked at the 4-H Memorial Camp, Allerton Park, as head groundskeeper. It was there that Harold could continue his love for deer, wildlife, and the great outdoors.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello with Rev. Jim Dalrymple and Rev. Steve Ingram officiating. No Visitation will be held. Private family interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.

David L. St. Pierre, 76, of Cerro Gordo, IL, died 10:15 P.M., Monday, January 7, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.

David was born May 7, 1936 in Mt. Zion, IL, the son of Gerald Richard, Sr. and Helen Jean (Shannon) St. Pierre. He married Ramona K. Miller on November 27, 1960 in Decatur, IL.

David was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He worked at Superior Welding and Kopetz for 36 years, retiring in 1998. David enjoyed farming, square dancing, going to auctions and fairs. He especially enjoyed watching his granddaughters show their calves at fairs and play sports.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ramona of Cerro Gordo, IL; children Tim D. (Jill) St. Pierre, Todd A. (Michelle) St. Pierre, all of Cerro Gordo, IL, and Kim R. (John) Decesaro of Bethany, IL; 5 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Gerald (Doris) St. Pierre, Jr. of Mt. Zion, IL, Chuck (Mary) St. Pierre of Monroe, IA, Karen (Larry) Lange of Macon, IL, Sharon (Don) Peddicord of Irving, IL, Terry (Cindy) St. Pierre of Unionville, MO, brother-in-law Dan Miller and wife Ronda of Spring Branch, TX and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one step granddaughter.

Mrs. York is survived by her sons Russell York and wife Mary Jo of Cerro Gordo, Gerald York and wife Valerie of El Cajon, CA; 4 grandchildren Michael York and wife Dawn of Cerro Gordo, Adam York of San Diego, CA, Christine Reed and husband Brian of Sherman, IL, Gina Boccia and husband Guy of Chula Vista, CA; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Iola Gehlbach, 96, Lincoln, died at 10:14 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 5, 2013) at her home.

Frances Iola Gehlbach was born May 12, 1916, a daughter of Clemens “Clem” and Anna Fink Garton. As a child, she rode her horse around the neighborhood, collecting news for her father to put in his newspaper column, “East O’ Town.” After graduating from Lincoln Community High School and Lincoln College, she taught three years at Hatton School, which she had attended as a child. She was united in marriage to Albert E. Gehlbach on July 30, 1938. He preceded her in death in 2003.

She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Nancy) Gehlbach, Lincoln, and Donald (Ann) Gehlbach, Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren, Dr. Scott (Dr. Maria Belodubrovskaya) Gehlbach, Madison, Wis.; Dr. Brian (Dr. Krista Johnson) Gehlbach, Coralville, Iowa; Chad (Michele Dupre) Gehlbach, Chicago; and Jody (George) Agnacian, Bentonville, Ark.; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Jacob and Adrian Gehlbach; and Lily and Charlie Agnacian; and a sister, Lois (Julian) Schmidt, Mount Pulaski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, where she belonged to the Christian Seekers, Charity Guild and Pairs ’N Spares. She was a charter member of the Logan County Home Bureau (later Home Extension), and served as president of the Chester Unit.

Mrs. Gehlbach was a homemaker and avid supporter of her husband’s farming career. She was known as a wonderful hostess, whether entertaining her coffee group or greeting her husband’s colleagues during his service as president of the National Pork Producers Council. A lifelong learner with a curious mind, she loved to travel and had a wonderful memory for Logan County events and families. She enjoyed working in her garden, cooking, doing crafts, jigsaw puzzles and jumbles, and watching Illini basketball on TV.

Most of all, however, she was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, who cherished her family.

Services for Mrs. Gehlbach will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour before the service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ, 204 Seventh St., Lincoln.

Ed was born Oct. 4, 1956, son of George Calvin and Norma Maltby Wilkins.

He is survived by his mother, Norma, Clinton; sisters, Sally (Jerry Mayberry) Boeving, Sylmar, Calif., and Christine (Sam) Strange, Heyworth; nephews, Jeremy (Ashley Reynolds) Strange, Tinley Park, and Casey (Jessica) Strange, Bloomington; niece, Hillary (Justin) Gordon, Valencia, Calif.; and great-nephews, Nic and Luc Strange, Minooka, and Miles Gordon, Valencia, Calif.

Ed had volunteered with SOAR and worked for Redneck Trailer Supplies and loved all things with wheels and a motor.

He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

Barbara L. Otto, 69, of Lincoln passed away January 3, 2013 at The Christian Village in Lincoln surrounded by her loving family.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln with Henry Johnson and Dustin Fulton officiating.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson Street Christian Church or to the Oasis Senior Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Morris R. Valentine, 82, retired farmer, patriarch of the Valentine Family went into eternity January 3rd, at his residence.

Morris was born December 1, 1931 to parents Ellsworth and Caroline Valentine. From that union were also Morris’ siblings, Raymond “Doc” (Cindy), Romana (deceased), Barb (Chalmer) Hinton, Marilyn (Larry) Scott, Michael (Mary), Paula Valentine, and Mary Lou Valentine (deceased). Along with a step-brother Hale Valentine (Deceased).

On April 10th, 1954 Morris married his sweetheart Betty Caroline Baker from Cerro Gordo. From that union Morris leaves ten children; Carol (Mark) Kleven, Greg “Butch” (Deb), Mary Valentine (Scott), Ed (Roni), Ralph (Peg), Deborah (Marty) Stoerger, Kirk (Melissa), Bob (Tina), Sarah Valentine and Tim Valentine. Also grandchildren; Jesse Kleven, Kevin Slevin, Daniel (J.J.) Valentine, Matt (Phoebe) Valentine, Heather (Heath) Barrett, Jamie Christie, Jared (Tosha) Valentine, Vince Stoerger, Ben (Jessica) Stoerger, Jacob Purcell, Travis Purcell, Simon Valentine, Molly (Ben) Oberg, Sam Valentine, Kate (Larz) Oberg, Mary Grace (Fiancé Dave Hedges), Karolyn, Margaret, and Seth Valentine, and grandson Michael (deceased), great grandchildren; Zach, Aaron, Makayla, and Michael Valentine, Sam Parrish, Mason and Oscar Barrett, Lanie, Morgan, and Hannah Jamison, Sage, Shelby, and Lizzy Christie, Gavlyn and Nicholas Valentine, Autumn and Erin Stoerger, and Sawyer Valentine.

Morris had several nicknames; “Moses” from his siblings, “Moery” from his son-in-law Mark, and Pa Pa Moe from his great grandchildren. Morris had a gift in mechanics that his sons inherited. Give them all an old tractor or an old vehicle that somehow they would come up with the parts needed to get them up and running again.

Morris had several passions which included farming and restoring old Allis-Chalmer tractors. Nothing to him was any better than the color (Allis-Chalmer orange), the sound of a Allis tractor, or a Gleaner combine. Morris was fortunate to have farmed the A.C. Miller Farm in Monticello with his son Greg and his other sons for several years. Morris had great respect for individuals that serve in the military.

In honoring Morris’ wishes there will be no service at this time. There will be a family gathering at a later date.

In memory of Morris the family requests giving a love offering to the Willow Tree Missions in Monticello or Encore of Clinton. Morris had a love for gardening so this spring in his memory plant a fruit bearing tree, rose bush, or especially some watermelon seeds. Pa Pa Moe could grow great watermelons!

The family of “Morris” gives praise and thankfulness for his unconditional love and so many memories to cherish.

A.J. Covington, 59, Lincoln, formerly of Clinton, died Jan. 1, 2013, in Lincoln.

Service: graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton. Deacon Steve Tamburini will officiate.

Visitation: none. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors: one son, Willem Covington, Clinton.
