Ronald 'Ron' Fonger

Ronald “Ron” Fonger, 80, of Solon Springs, WI, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center, in Duluth, MN. 
 
He was born August 26, 1937, near Downs, IL, to William “Lyle” and Bonnie McDowell Fonger. He married Nancy Shaw in November of 1955. They had two daughters, Renae and Toni.
 
He then married Shirley Burgess, whom Toni refers to as, “Ma”.
 
He then married Julia Drake Korleski, who had six children. Julia’s daughter, Deb (Ed) Coblentz, looked after “Dad” since her mother passed away in April of 2010.
 
He is survived by his two daughters, Renae Strawbridge of Mahomet, IL, and Toni (Rick) Fonger-Patton of Normal, IL; grandchildren, Courtney Borth, Jacob (Jessica) Borth, Tiffany (Brent) Huisinga, and Joshua Strawbridge; great-grandchildren, Aly, Greyson, Dominic, Libby, Jace, and Lucas.
 
Ron worked as a carpenter alongside his dad building many homes in Bloomington-Normal and surrounding counties in Illinois. He continued his carpentry business in every town and city in which he lived, earning an honest living, providing quality remodels, etc. He has resided in Solon Springs for the past 30 plus years where he continued his business until retiring a few years ago.
 
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses for the wonderful, loving care they gave him during his hospitalization.
 
Cremation rites have been accorded.
 
A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Le Roy, IL.
