Lucinda K. Meixner of Cerro Gordo

Lucinda K. “Luci” Meixner, 56, of Cerro Gordo, IL, went to be with her Lord at 11:07 a.m. on September 30, 2013.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2013, at Oakley Brick Church of the Brethren, Oakley, IL. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 3, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Cerro Gordo, IL. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. Lucinda was born August 31, 1957, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Charles and Marilyn Braden. She married Charles T. Meixner on July 12, 1980 in Decatur, IL.

Lucinda was a member of Oakley Brick Church of the Brethren and was dedicated to her faith and her Lord. All who knew her, knew God’s love. Lucinda cherished her family and friends. She especially adored being “Nana” to her grandson Jacen.

She is survived by her husband Tom of Cerro Gordo, IL; daughter Talia Helm and husband Kyle; grandson Jacen, all of Cerro Gordo; mother Marilyn Braden of Decatur; brother Greg Braden of EuClaire, WI; sister Brenda Sweazy of Ocala, FL; and brother Mark Braden of Sullivan; uncle Chris Christensen and wife Carol of Burbank, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and her son Joshua.

The world has lost a great wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. Her faith, love and kindness will always be remembered. She will be sorely missed and forever cherished.

Beverly Jane Bateson of Clinton

Beverly Jane Bateson, 69, Clinton, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 29, 2013) at her family residence in Clinton.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. The Rev. Jim Kilson will officiate. Interment will be at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

She was born Dec. 5, 1943, in Clinton, daughter of Ernie and Clara Johnson Isaac. She married Arthur Bateson on April 6, 1962, in Clinton. He survives in Clinton.

Also surviving are three children, Pam (Alan) Coppenbarger, Clinton; Brenda Griffin, Clinton; and Darrin (Sara) Bateson, Clinton; six grandchildren, Toni (Scott) Richardson, Forsyth; Seth and Tara Coppenbarger, Clinton; and Hannah, Libby and Ella Bateson, Clinton; one great-granddaughter, Lainey Kay Richardson, Forsyth; brothers and sisters, Judy (Wayne) Hight, Clinton; Sue (Harold) Nisinger, Clinton; Robert (Linda) Isaac, Long Creek; Joyce (Danny) Shofner, Clinton; Rich (Renee) Isaac, Clinton; and Jerry (Kathy) Isaac, Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Melvin, Ray, James and Dean.

She was a member of Lane Christian Church.

She worked at the former Modern Cleaners in Clinton. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and M&Ms. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and loved the color purple.

William R. Oettle of Champaign

William R. “Bill” Oettle, 74, of Champaign, formerly of Monticello, passed away at 4:40 AM, Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Champaign County Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Bible Baptist Church 4001 W. Kirby Ave., Champaign with Pastor Dave Ashby and Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Bible Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Monticello Township Cemetery. Bill was born on July 19, 1939 in Alton, IL, the son of Roy and Christine (Fisher) Oettle. He married Barb Lossman on July 27, 1974 in Monticello, IL.

Survivors include his wife; Barb Oettle of Champaign, children; Michael (Angela) Oakley of Fisher, Teresa (Chuck) Nelson of Monticello, and Richard (Julie) Oakley of Burnsville, Minnesota, grandchildren; Brittany Oakley, Brennan Oakley, Mitchell Oakley, SGT. Kylie (SGT. Charles “Chip”) Furstenau of Maryland, and SrA Ian (SrA Brianna) Nelson of Turkey. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister (Orlyn Davis).

Bill was district manager with Custom Farm Seed and Hoblit Seed companies. Bill was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Champaign, enjoyed softball and loved having his family around, especially treasuring the holidays. Memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church. James Marion Polen of Clinton

James Marion Polen, 63, Clinton, passed away at 2 a.m. Sept. 28, 2013, in Costa Rica.

A celebration of his life will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Clinton Elks Lodge.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements.

James was born July 10, 1950, in Clinton, a son of Harry Polen and Joan Stoll Thoms. He married Nancy Blue in 1969. He later married Rosa Maria Alvarado Perez in 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa Maria Alvarado Perez, Clinton; mother, Joan Thoms, Clinton; father, Harry (Sharon) Polen, Atlanta; one son, James Polen Jr., Clinton; one daughter, Tisha (Chris) Adams, Littleton, Colo.; grandson, Riley Adams; granddaughter, Harper Adams; and four brothers, Phillip Steven (Merlin) Polen, Clinton; Scott Polen, Clinton; Robbie Polen, Bloomington; and Chad Polen, Atlanta.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, Todd James Polen, in 1972.

Jim was past exalted ruler of Clinton Elks Lodge, previous owner and operator of Polen Excavating, Clinton, and owned Subways in Clinton and Paxton.

 He was a hard worker and was well liked by many people. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Jim was loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all.

Juanita M. Plummer of Clinton

Juanita M. (Park) Plummer, 90, Normal, formerly of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, surrounded by her family. She is now, and forever, in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death, August 31, 2013, by her husband of 69 years, Oscar E. Plummer.

 

She will be cremated, and there will be a Celebration of Life Service for Juanita, and her husband Oscar, Sunday, October 6, 2013, 2:00 P M, at Warrensburg United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place prior to the service, from 1:30-2:00. Inurnment will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur.

 

Juanita was born April 26, 1923, in Boody, IL, the daughter of Clinton G. and Nina M. (Piper) Park.

 

She married Oscar E. Plummer on May 20, 1944, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

 

She is survived by three children; Fred (Edie) Plummer, Normal; Susie (Terry) O’Neil, Bloomington; and Jim (Pam) Plummer, Clinton; 10 grandchildren; Clint Plummer, Joe Plummer, Matt Plummer, Jennifer O’Neil, John O’Neil, Hannah O’Neil, Mitch Clark, Dusty Osgood, Trisha Faingold, and Phil Goben; 17 great-grandchildren, two nieces, and four nephews. Also surviving is her Stepsister, Patricia Eckelkamp, Spring Hill, FL.

 

Her father, Clinton G. Park, and her mother, Nina M. Park; stepmother June (Haughey) Park; sisters; Betty Cochran, and Marcella Park, and brother; Willard Park all preceded Juanita in death.

 

Juanita was a member of Wapella Christian Church.

 

She was a homemaker, and had previously worked at Park Leghorn Farm, Warrensburg.

 

Juanita had the heart of a servant. She loved doing things for others, making people feel special and baking cakes for birthdays. She always remembered the birthdays of all of her family and friends. Juanita’s Niece Gloria, says it best; “She was the sweetest, caring, and most precious Aunt, and if we wanted to know anything about the family, she could tell you all in detail, and she was only 90 years old”!

 

Juanita’s greatest joy was in spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife to Oscar, to whom she was deeply devoted. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Lois C. Whitehead of Clinton

Lois C. Whitehead, 93, a lifelong Macon-DeWitt County resident, passed away September 26, 2013 at Dr. John Warner Hospital in Clinton, IL.

 

A celebration of the life of Lois Whitehead will be 11 AM Monday, September 30, 2013 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9:30 AM — 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton.

 

Lois Ferguson-Whitehead was born March 12, 1920 in Argenta, the daughter of Howard LeRoy and Lydia Dallman Mahoney. She married Don Ferguson June 17, 1944 in Decatur. Don passed away Sept. 17, 1990. Lois married Emil Ray Whitehead in Clinton, Aug. 10, 1996. He passed away March 9, 2010. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Shirley Ann Reed, Shelbyville, IL; one brother, Halfred Dean Mahoney, Argenta, IL; and one daughter, our beloved sister, Aurolyn Ann Ferguson, Bloomington, IL.

 

Lois is survived by her children, Gary (Pat) Ferguson, Santa Fe, NM; Dan (Lynn) Ferguson, Weldon, IL; and Mike (Janice) Ferguson of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Janet Ferguson, Denver, CO, Karen (Kevin) Crotchfelt, Indianapolis, IN, Ron (Angi) Ferguson, Wesley Chapel, FL, Jami (Mike) Huesing, Springfield, IL, Amy (Joe) Smith, Clinton, IL, Jason (Sara) Ferguson, Huntington Beach, CA, and Jeremy (Ashley) Ferguson, Clinton, IL.

 

Lois also loved her 11 great grandchildren; Kaela and Kyle Crotchfelt, Savannah and Vanessa Ferguson, Marissa and Brock Huesing, Jakob Ferguson, Lauren and Emily Smith and Shawn and Weston Ferguson.

 

As the years grew, so did Lois’ family. She was so very proud to also love three step-children; Bruce (Janet) Whitehead, Tullahoma, TN, Pamela Spears, Lake Charles, LA and Patty Goen, College Station, TX; seven step-grandchildren; Bryan Spears, Cushing, OK, Ashley (Ben) Cating, Dallas, TX, Elise (David) Beylund, Minot, ND, Jimmy, Jenna, Sam and Katie Goen of College Station, TX; and three step-great grandchildren; Anna, Rachel and Lydia Cating.

 

Lois is also survived by her brother, Jerry (Judy) Mahoney of Argenta, IL and many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

 

Lois was an active and lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Clinton, also active with the church’s Young at Heart group. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Dr. John Warner Hospital Auxiliary, Home Extension, “The Lois Club” and Red Hat Society.

 

Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Lois knew she was active and energetic all her life. She was a hard-working and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother who was a loyal and faithful servant to her family, church, friends and community. Lois enjoyed life to the fullest degree, dancing (always leading the conga line), traveling and camping. She could cook like no other. After all, her Mom taught her and Grandma Bine was the best. We will miss our Mother but we all know she has reached “The Perfect Place” and is once again, dancing.

Don B. Kitson, 94 of Monticello, IL., passed away at 10:45 A.M. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at his residence in Monticello, IL.

 

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Bement Township Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620, Bement. Don was born on August 24, 1919 a son of Glen and Ethyl Barr Kitson. He married Alberta Born on February 20, 1940 in St. Louis, MO., and she survives of Monticello. Surviving are 3 children; Janice (Don) Lewis of Sun City West, AZ., Glen (Sue) Kitson of Champaign, IL., and Donna Harrington of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving are 8 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren and 12 Great-Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Lucille (Sis) Moore and a grandchild; Kelly Harrington.

 

Don was a member of the Bement Masonic Lodge #365 A.F. & A.M., the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620, and retired as a rural mail carrier. He loved spending time with his family.

Emmett L. Call 78, of Clinton, IL passed away at 2:09 p.m., September 25, 2013 in John Warner Hospital, Clinton, IL.

Surviving is his wife Virginia of Clinton, IL; children: Pat Canada of Maroa, Il, Carol Mitchell and her husband Bill of Clinton, Emmett L. Call Jr. and his wife Connie of Eudora, Kansas, Tommy Call and his wife Lillis of Decatur, Jerry Call of Beason, IL and Teresa Barnes of Clinton; brother: Jack Call and his wife Judy of Houston, Texas; sister: Shirley Nuckolls and her husband Jim of Decatur; twenty- three grandchildren and thirty-eight great grandchildren also survive.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and two great-grandchildren.

Mary M. Byrd of Farmer City

Mary M. Byrd, 79, Farmer City, formerly of LeRoy, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2013) at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.

Mary was born July 10, 1934, in South Irvine, Ky., a daughter of William and Doris Hazel Lowe. She married Donald Byrd.

She is survived by two sons, Brett E. Byrd, Urbana, and Bryan K. (Debbie) Byrd, LeRoy; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; brother, William (Marilyn) Lowe, LeRoy; and sister, Betty J. Underhill, LeRoy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary had been a secretary and bookkeeper for Twin City Sign and Decal and a nurse’s aide at Jackson Heights Nursing Home, both in Farmer City.

Edwin M. Trummel of Lane

Edwin M. Trummel, 94, Lane, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 21, 2013) at Dr. John Warner Hospital, Clinton.

His funeral be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Larry Trummel and Paul Milliken will officiate. Interment will be at Rose Cemetery, Lane, with military honors accorded. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Dr. John Warner Hospital Foundation or Fisher Center Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

He was born May 23, 1919, in Creek Township, DeWitt County, the son of Lorin Trummel and Edna Hartsock Trummel. He married Ila L. Wantland on April 16, 1939, in Clinton. Ila passed away on Jan. 20, 1994. He later married Jean Jones in May 1999. She passed away Oct. 11, 2011.

Survivors include his children, Milton (Joyce) Trummel, Lane; Marlyn Trummel, Lane; Janice (Don) Marshall, Lane; and Larry (Pauline) Trummel, Livermore, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one grandchild.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of Lane Christian Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and elder for many years. He was an electrician and a 72-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Works Local 146.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband. Ruby was a member of the Bement United Methodist Church.

Lonnie was born May 5, 1956 in Albany, KY the son of Chester A. and Geneviva (Covey) Grider. He was a retired over the road truck driver and was a member of the Teamster’s Union. Lonnie had a great love for playing pool and participated in many area pool leagues. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known as a man with many talents and a Jack of all Trades. He could repair and fix any project that was given to him. He also had a passion for raising Koi Fish.

Surviving is his daughters: Tracy Stull and her husband Jeff of Virginia Beach, VA, Jenifer Cuttill and her husband Rodney Jr. of Decatur, Michell Grider of Arthur, and Cheryl Allen of Cerro Gordo; special companion: Karen Scranton of Mt. Zion; brother: Bobby Grider and his wife Melinda of Decatur; sisters: Linda “Susie” Curtis and her husband Jon of Bloomington, Bonnie L Yowell and her husband Lowell of Cerro Gordo, and Dianna “Rose” Grider of Decatur; eight grandchildren and his special dogs: Sam and booger also survive.

Lola Rosemary Anderson of Monticello

Lola Rosemary Anderson, 90, of Monticello, passed away at 2:45 a.m., September 11, 2013 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Rosemary was born on September 18, 1922 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Otto Julius and Erma Estelle (Hawkins) Otten. She married Carl Feely who passed away in France during WW II. She then married Joseph LaVerne Anderson on May 15, 1949 in Modesto, IL. He passed away on February 1, 2005.

Survivors include her children, Mary Jo Dielman (Bill) of Monticello, Kathy Anderson (Tom) of Urbana, and Mark Anderson (Rhonda) of Monticello; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 2 brothers, and 1 infant sister.

Rosemary was a homemaker, a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, Piatt County Promenades, and the Piatt County Home Extension. Her hobbies included flower gardening, a variety of crafts, and was an avid reader.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Courtright officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in the Monticello Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Monticello United Methodist Church.

Marie J. Martin of Clinton

Marie J. Martin, 85, Clinton, retired Martin’s Service Station co-operator, died Tuesday (Sept. 10, 2013).

Carol D. Litwiller of Lincoln

Carol D. “Sonny” Litwiller, 81, Lincoln, formerly of Armington, passed away at 9:57 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 10, 2013) at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

He was born Jan. 12, 1932, in Hopedale, to Roy M. and Martha H. Nolder Litwiller. He married Betty J. Laun on Sept. 9, 1956, in Emden. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Mark Litwiller, Danvers; Rob (Gloria) Litwiller, Atwood; and Eric Litwiller, Danvers; one daughter, Judy (Mark) Cooley, Hummelstown, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Luke Litwiller, Jessica Litwiller, Jennifer Litwiller, Ryan Cooley, Kiersten Cooley, Stacey (Jared) Trouth and Hilary LeHew; two great-grandchildren, Michael Frantz and Andrew Trouth; two sisters, Joan (Barney) Bright, Morton, and Jean Stark, Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Neil Litwiller in 1973; and one sister, Marzella Litwiller.

Sonny farmed in the Delavan and Armington areas and retired from the Carpenters Local Union 63 in Bloomington.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was active in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fundraisers, and enjoyed mission work, fishing and hunting.

He was a member of Jefferson Street Christian Church in Lincoln, where a celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dustin Fulton will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, also at the church. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery, Armington. Davis Mortuary, Hopedale, is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Juliett Judy Thompson of Lincoln


Juliett "Judy" Thompson, passed away at 12:05 P.M. on September 3, 2013 at her residence in Lincoln. Services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday September 10, 2013 at Lincoln Christian Church with Ron Otto officiating. Visitation will be from 3-6 P.M., three hours prior to service at the church. Local arrangements were entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials may be made to Lincoln Christian Church or Herschel and Judy Thompson Memorial Scholarship.

There will also be a visitation Thursday, September 12 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Little Prairie Christian Church, Rural Albion, Edwards County, IL. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be Orio Cemetery in Allendale, IL following the service.
