Richard L. Wurth, 87, of Lincoln, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Heritage Health Center, Springfield, IL.

Richard was born on August 5, 1931 in Lincoln, IL; the son of Richard and Hazel (Wheeler) Wurth. 

Richard is survived by his significant other Mary (Albert) Hahn. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard served our country in the US Army and was a farmer for many years. 

Private graveside services for Richard will be held at a later date at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln.

Esther F. Covey, 92, of Clinton, IL passed away at 3:03 PM, April 25, 2019 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, IL.

Sandra J. Roop-Holt, 79, of LeRoy joined the Lord on Saturday (April 20, 2019).

She was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Bloomington, to Alva and Mildred (Messamore) Mitchell. She married Paul Holt on April 25, 1997, in Bloomington. He survives.

She is survived by her children, Ricardo (Phyllis) Roop, Effingham; Ronda (Johnny) Roop-Cameron, LeRoy; and Timothy Roop, Ipava,; two grandsons, Joshua Roop and Sckyler Cameron; one granddaughter, Bethany Grace Roop; one great-granddaughter, Lyric Roop; three sisters, Irma Martin, Verla Fullerton and Judie Platt.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant brother, Roland Lee Mitchell.

Sandra loved her family very much.

John R. Monical, 85, of Le Roy, IL passed away on April 16, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on July 15, 1933 in Louisville, IL the son of John M. and Blanch (Stewart) Monical. He married Patricia Ann Bishop on October 23, 1954 in Eureka, IL and she survives.

Mr. Monical is also survived by his children: Vickie (Dan) Bruning, Mike (Teresa) Monical, John (Barb) Monical, and Tammi (Glen) Stubblefield all of Le Roy. In addition to his children he is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jason (Katie) Bruning, Dave (Jamie) Bruning and Becky (Blake) Wahls; Lindsay (Jeremy) Mattingly, Amy (Matt) Golden, Whitney (Megan) Monical; Tanya (Ben) Underhill, Michelle (Michael) Pudge, Daniel Monical; thirteen great-grandchildren Adalyn, Adrienne, Jackson, Josephine, Kolton, Landon, Logan, Marley, Owen, Quinn, Trever, Tyler, Vanessa; and one great-great-grandchild Brantley. He is also survived by two sisters Ramona Gaffney of Le Roy and Judy Arrospide of Carlock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild Brian, three sisters Florida Foltz, Bethel Phillips Hendrix, and Evelyn Monical Starnes.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He enjoyed playing cards and games, also talking and joking with the grandchildren. He enjoyed visits from family and friends alike. He was an avid fisherman, loved camping and had a passion for painting. He loved dogs, and always had them in his home. His most current pal is Lulu.

He was retired from the Laborers International Union Local 362. He was proud of his service in the Korean War and was always ready to tell you a story about it. His service took him to countries overseas and he continued traveling with his family to places all over the US. He stories will remain with us. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10:30am at East Lawn Funeral Home, 1102 Airport Road. Wanda L. Haberland, 89, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Generations in Lincoln, IL.

Wanda was born on March 27, 1930, in Lincoln, IL; the daughter of Roy and Mildred (Reynolds) DeFrees. She married John Haberland on November 29, 1947, in Emden, IL. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1992.

Wanda is survived by her son, Darren (Judy) Haberland of Emden, IL; and daughter, Christy (Raymond) Armstrong of Mclean, IL; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two infant children; one sister, Betty Ann Dews; one brother, Raymond "Butch” DeFrees; and one great-grandchild, Jonathan Danielson.

Wanda was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, the President of Toastmaster of Lincoln for 15 years, and was also a leader in 4-H. Many will remember her for running the Midway Cafe for 15 years.

Services for Wanda will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden with a visitation held one hour prior to the service. An evening visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, April 29, 2019, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Christopher G. Cyrulik, 51, of Lincoln, passed away at 11:04 A.M. Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Chris was born on October 12, 1967, in Decatur, IL, to Gary and Colleen (Coogan) Cyrulik. He married Laura Latimer on May 24, 1997. She survives him in Lincoln.

Also surviving are twin daughters Sierra Joy Cyrulik and Kianna Grace Cyrulik, both of Lincoln, two sisters Becky (John) Trago of Lincoln and Lydia (Grant) Cavins of Springfield, two nephews Kenny (Danica) Trago and Justin (Emily) Trago both of Lincoln and one great-niece Everleigh Lyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother Eric and twin infant sisters Crystal and Cynthia. 

Chris was a truck driver for SK Davison for several years. He was a metal fabricator and liked tinkering in his garage fixing and making things.

Services for Chris will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 29, 2019, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln with Ron Otto officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday, April 28 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bob Leonard Shaw, 80 of Clinton, IL passed away 3:25 A.M. April 23, 2019 at his family residence, Clinton, IL.

Bob was born February 19, 1939 in Clinton, IL the son of Cecil “Tuck” and Hazel Marie (Washburn) Shaw. 

Survivors include his children, Lori Ann (Scotty) May, Wapella, IL, and Robert Reece (Tricia) Shaw, Heyworth, IL, along with his granddaughter, Savannah Shaw, and sister Sharon Burton-Walker, TX. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Cecil Welby Shaw and sisters, Colletta Poling and Doris Welton. 

Bob loved spending time outside regardless of the season, and at the Birkbeck cabin. He enjoyed collecting coins and using his metal detector on old farms, looking for lost treasures. He was a member of the Pheasants Forever, Railsplitter Coin Club and the Central Illinois Numismatic Assoc.

The family would like to give a “Special Thank You” to caregivers Theresa Milton, Lisa Wrone, St. John’s Hospice, and to all who brought food and care to Bob.

Joseph E. Stoerger, 86, of Monticello, passed away at 3:30 a.m., April 21, 2019 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Joe was born February 20, 1933 in Urbana, IL the son of Carl C. and Catherine (Bermingham) Stoerger of Ivesdale. He married Shirley Hosler on July 30, 1960 in Ivesdale.     

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Shirley Stoerger of Monticello. They have 3 children, Susan Jo Zasada (Andrew) of Champaign, Diane Miller (Randy) of Avon, IN, and Thad Stoerger (Molly) of Sanger, TX and Gloria Jack (mother of Danyell and Luke Stoerger). Also 8 grandchildren, Nick, Laura, Adam, Joshua, Jared, Joey, Danyell, Luke; great-granddaughter, Katie; brothers, Raymond and Robert Stoerger both of Ivesdale; sisters, Mary Kay Hartman of Pesotum, Rita Duncan of Somerset, IN and Patty Wilson of Bradley, also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.   

Joe was a farmer and worked 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service. Joe served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the St. Philomena Catholic Church, loved sports, truly enjoyed nature, birds, flowers, and going to his grandchildren’s activities.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Elbert Louis “Hank” Watkins Sr., 91, of Heyworth, passed away peacefully Saturday (April 20, 2019) at Heritage Health, Bloomington.

He was born April 14, 1928, in West Frankfort to Harry Louis and Elsie Fern (nee Chance) Watkins.

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Betty Rae (nee Hungate) Watkins, Heyworth; five sons, Micheal (Colleen) Watkins, Hartford, Kan.; Elbert (Susan) Watkins, Glencoe, Mo.; Stanley (Sue) Watkins, Bloomington; Kevin Watkins, Bloomington; and Jeffrey (Leslie) Watkins, Colonial Heights, Va. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Billy Ray Watkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Randall Albert Watkins.

Elbert served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. Following his honorable discharge, he met Betty, and they were married on June 25, 1949.

After several years in southern Illinois, they relocated to Clinton, where he was a lineman for Illinois Power for 26 years. Elbert was a proud member of the IBEW and owned Watkins Tree Service.

He was a hardworking man with a strong work ethic. Upon his retirement in 1988, Elbert and Betty moved to Independence, Va., and built their dream log home. They later relocated to Carmi, and then Heyworth, in 2016.

He enjoyed politics and his time as streets commissioner in Clinton and mayor in Independence, Va. Elbert was a devoted Cubs fan and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. He loved his role as “Paw Paw.”

A life celebration is planned for late June.

Dale W. Lessen, 57, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on April 17, 2019.
Dale was born in Lincoln, IL; son of William and Frances (Geriets) Lessen. He married Sarah Isbell on November 6, 1993 in Hartsburg, IL. She survives him.

Also surviving Dale is his father, his daughters: Shelby Lessen of Peoria, IL and Ashley Lessen of Lincoln, IL; his sisters: Linda Maxey of Lincoln, IL, Colleen (Jim) Anning of Williamsville, IL, and Susan (Jim) Gehlbach of Lincoln, IL; and his faithful companion: Charlie. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Dale was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lincoln, part owner of Cashless Racing, Secretary of Hartsburg Grain Elevator, but above all, he was a loving husband to his wife Sarah and the best dad in the world to his girls. Dale chose to be an organ donor and with the help of Gift of Hope others will live on.

Services for Dale will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln with Rev. Michael Paulson and Rev. Brad Curtis officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019 also at the church. Burial at Hartsburg Union Cemetery will follow the service. Dorothy B. Harrison, 92, of Lincoln passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at St. Clara’s Rehab & Senior Care in Lincoln.

Dorothy was born on July 18, 1926 in Lincoln, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Olga (Ahrens) Buckstegge. She married Jack R. Harrison Sr. on January 22, 1950; he preceded her in death on August 10, 2009.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Jack (Debra) Harrison Jr., Jan Harrison Saylor, and Joseph (Teresa) Harrison; her grandchildren, Caroline (Mick) Fleming, and Brenton (Allison) Saylor; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Carter Fleming.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Anna Shockey; and her grandson, Alvin Saylor.

Dorothy graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN with an ASCP Certification. She was employed by Doctors Trapp, Hamm, and Doolen. Dorothy was also an active member in many organizations in Lincoln, including The Lincoln Women’s Club, American Legion Post #263 Auxiliary, and she volunteered for the ALMH Auxiliary. Dorothy was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, where she served as a deacon.

Services for Dorothy will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, IL with Rev. Adam Quine officiating. Crystal Lynn Hickey, 57, of Lincoln, was called home on April 20, 2019, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, IL surrounded by peace and love.

Crystal was born on July 24, 1961, in Pinckneyville, IL, the daughter of Donald L. "DR” and Bonnie D. (Fehrmann) Ragland. She married David A. Hickey on June 6, 1981, in Lincoln, IL. He survives her in Lincoln.

Crystal is also survived by her children, Amber Hickey of Lincoln, Adam (Amy) Hickey of Hartsburg, and Autumn Hickey of Lincoln; her sister, Candace (Steve) Buche of Pflugerville, TX; one beloved grandchild, Gage Adam Hickey; numerous nieces and nephews; and her poodle, Jack.

Crystal was preceded in death by her parents.

Crystal was a manufacturing coordinator at Eaton Corporation in Lincoln for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, and a graduate of LCHS Class of 1979. Crystal was an avid supporter of Toys for Tots and Relay for Life. She was also a Disney Fanatic.

Brent Tidaback, 55, of Lincoln, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Christian Village, Lincoln, IL.

Brent was born on January 31, 1964 in Lincoln, IL; the son of Alan R. and Mary Lou (Hailstone) Tidaback. 

Brent is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Tidaback; his brother, Scott (Susan Hammes) Tidaback; and his sister, Melinda (Dale) Mather. 

He was preceded in death by his father.

Brent had a passion and was a collector of model trains. He was a member of N-Trak of Bloomington-Normal where he at one time served as President. Brent was also a lover of the theater; he played the lead of Oliver, and his brother Scott played the role of Dodger when Lincoln Christian University put on the show "Oliver”.

Per Brent’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded; there are no services scheduled at this time. Memorial donations may be made in Brent’s name to The National MS Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
 

Ernest T. Goodwin, 98, of Clinton, IL passed away 2:26 PM April 18, 2019 at his family residence, Clinton, IL.

Ernest was born October 9, 1920 in Bethalto, IL the son of Ernest Albert and Jessie C. (Hidden) Goodwin. He married Ruth E. Davis, August 19, 1942 in St. Charles, Missouri. She passed away December 8, 2003.

Survivors include his children, Janet (Virgil) Brady, Clinton, IL; Ernest J. (Lucy) Goodwin, Waverly, IL; Gary Goodwin, Woodriver, IL; Thomas Goodwin, Clinton, IL, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and brother, Paul A. (Marsha) Goodwin, Lakeland, FL.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Harold C.T. Goodwin.

Ernest retired from Revere Copper and Brass Inc. in 1985. He enjoyed camping, fishing, was an avid reader and loved western movies.

Justin Daniel Short, 43, of Linwood, Kansas formerly of Clinton, IL passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019 at his family residence.  Services were held on Saturday, April 20 at St. Martin in the Field Episcopal Church, Edwardsville, KS.

Justin was born on November 28, 1975 in Decatur, IL to Kenneth R. and Shirley M (Doty) Short.  He married Christina Soeder October 24, 2009 in Kenney, IL.

Justin is survived by his wife Christina, mother Shirley and two sons Blaine of Indiana and Gage of Illinois as well as stepchildren John, Rebecca and Tara of Kansas.  He is also survived by two grandsons Hunter and Cooper of Kansas.  His sister Denise (Chad) Mayes, two nieces and one nephew survive in Bloomington, IL.

Justin was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth.

Justin was employed by Brill-CSM Bakery Solutions in Bonner Springs, Kansas.  Justin was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Oscar Reyes Falcon, 62, of Lincoln, passed away April 14, 2019 at ALMH.

Visitation will be from 10AM until 11 AM Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11AM. Cremation rites to follow with burial at a later date.

Oscar was born January 12, 1957 in San Antonio, TX., the son of Oscar L. Falcon and Crispina Reyes. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed painting, drawing, and woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing. Oscar graduated from Lincoln College with an Associates Degree in Computer Science.

Surviving are his sisters Hortence (Mark) Hamblin and Rose Marie Falcon; nieces and nephews: Christina, Chad, Matthew, Josephine, Daniel, Andrea, Michael, Ami, Patty, Marie, Gloria, and Nikki. Several great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and his canine companions Zeus and Izzy also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Martha Falcon and Helena Cortez brother Robert Cortez.

Rebecca K. McCoy, 47, of Maroa, IL passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

Rebecca was born on May 17, 1971 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Ronald and Frieda (Wiley) Eckhardt. She married Steven D. McCoy on June 26, 1992. Rebecca worked as a teller for Soy Capital Bank. 

Rebecca is survived by her husband: Steven D. McCoy of Maroa, IL; mother: Frieda Janes of Blue Mound, IL; children: Cassie McCoy of Deland, IL and Darrin McCoy of Port Clinton, OH; sisters: Melody Wilkinson (Bob) of Argenta, IL and Ronda Clifton (Steve) of Maroa, IL; grandchildren: Colin Kimball, Kinsey McCoy, Camren Caskey, Kaylin Caskey, Darrin McCoy, Mya McCoy and Dillon McCoy.

She was preceded in death by her father and her daughter: Amanda K. McCoy.

William D. Parker, 75, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln IL.

William was born on July 21, 1943, in Lincoln, IL; the son of James and Harriet (Trowbridge) Parker. He married Gloria Charron on December 30, 1987 in Lincoln, IL. She survives him in Lincoln after 49 years of dedicated companionship. 

William is also survived by his children, Brett Charron-Parker, and Brad Parker; his brothers, James (Rosemary) Parker, Ronald (Linda) Parker, and Charlie Parker; and his sisters, Janice Parker, and Ann (Denny) Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Sandra.

William was an avid bowhunter, sportsman, and outdoorsman; he enjoyed the peace and tranquility of being at one with nature. William also had a passion for driving; he found joy in driving around Lincoln, in his little red car. There was never a destination in mind when he drove around town, but he would often find himself driving past all the homes of his family and friends. 

A memorial gathering for William will take place from 4:00-6:00pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Memorial donations may be made in William’s name to The American Lung Association.

Karen Kay Hawkins, 68, of Clinton, IL passed away 9:02 A.M. April 16, 2019 at her family residence, Clinton, IL.

Karen was born December 7, 1950 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Charles “Ralph” and Roberta “Bert” (Burris) Altes. She married Harry H. Hawkins, April 13, 1979 in Clinton, IL.

She was preceded by her parents, 1 brother, Charles R. “Inky” Altes and 1 grandson, Tre Hawkins.

Karen was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Clinton, IL. She was a weight watchers’ leader for 25 years. Most of all she loved and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Almon A. Helton, 80, of Lincoln passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loving family. 

Almon was born on December 17, 1938 in Adair Co., KY. the son of George Gilmer and Annie (Redford) Helton. He married Sandra Stewart on November 3, 1972 in Havana, IL. she survives him in Lincoln.

Almon is also survived by his children, Marcy (Matt Zufall) Booth, Jamie (Erin) Booth, Brandon (Jessica) Booth, Josh Helton (Eileen), and Zachary Helton; his siblings, Janice Helton, Phillip Helton, and Calvin Helton. Additionally, Almon is survived by his twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Almon was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Barbara, Margaret, and Suzy; and his brothers, Loren, Paul, and Billy.

Almon was a “tinkerer”, he would rather have a garage full of parts and pieces than to drive away in something new. He was also a man who loved having an audience; he was known for playing his guitar and singing for anyone there to listen.

To say that Almon enjoyed fishing would be an understatement; in a way, it was part of who Almon was. Fishing was one of the many things in his life that brought him peace and joy. But above all else, Almon loved and admired his family; especially his main man, Zach.

Margaret "Martha” Connor Peifer, 83, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 11, 2019.

Margaret was born on July 29, 1935, in Joliet, IL; daughter of John Francis and Anna (McCauley) Connor. She married Jack Henry Peifer on February 16, 1998, in Lincoln, IL.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, John Francis Connor; and brother, Charles P. Connor.

Margaret came to Lincoln in 1992 to be the educational administrator at Logan Correctional Center. She retired from Logan in August 2000.

Margaret was instrumental in erecting two Illinois State Historical Markers – one for Langston Hughes, the poet, and one for the Niebuhr Family of Theologians. A bust of William Maxwell, the writer from Lincoln, displayed in a prominent place in the Lincoln Public Library, is also due to Margaret’s efforts.

Margaret was a Franciscan Sister from 1953-1989. She was an educator in Chicago, Joliet and Ohio. She remained an associate of the Franciscans until her death. She published her autobiography "Nice To Meet Your Husband Sister Martha” in 2007.

Margaret often said, "I came to Lincoln for a job – and stayed for love.” She met Jack Peifer in 1992 through his mother, who was the blood sister of Margaret’s first Superior, Mother Immaculate Buckstegge. They married in February 1998.

Services for Margaret will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln, IL with Rev. Jeffrey Laible officiating. Visitation prior to the service will take place from 9:30am-10:30am at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. An evening visitation will take place from 4:00pm-8:00 pm on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. John Allan Forsythe, 84, of Lincoln, IL passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the Christian Village Congregate Building.

John was born on June 15, 1934, in Lincoln, IL; the son of Earl and Edna F. (Heft) Forsythe.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John is survived by several cousins.

John was a member of the Jefferson Street Christian Church in Lincoln and also volunteered there. John farmed and was also a farm hand. John also worked in maintenance at Lincoln College.

Eleanor Ann Skagenberg, 94, of Monticello, passed away at 11:59 p.m., on April 11, 2019, at the Piatt County Nursing Home.

Ann was born December 3, 1924 near Milmine, IL the daughter of Clarence and Grace (Baumann) Lefever. She married Richard Carl Skagenberg on August 25, 1946 at the Milmine Christian Church.

Ann graduated from the Milmine grade school, the Bement High School as Salutatorian, and from the University of Illinois in Home Economics. In early years of marriage from 1946-1947 she lived in Detroit, MI and worked for the Children’s Aid Society, then Singer Sewing Machine store. In Rochester, NY from 1947-1949 she was employed by RGE in the home service department demonstrating appliances to customers in their homes. In Springfield, IL in 1949 Ann demonstrated IH freezers at dealers in nearby towns while Richard managed Abigail Studio. In 1950 after selling the studio they moved to Miami, OK where Richard worked for Color Research. In 1951 both helped with the C.A. Bastert farming operation at Primrose Farm in Camp Point, IL. In 1952 both Ann and Richard began their farming careers in Milmine, IL, lasting for 35 years. After retirement in 1987, Ann and Richard continued to manage the family farm and market the grain.

Ann was a member of the Milmine Christian Church until it closed and then became a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the U of I Alumni Association, Bement Women’s Club, Piatt County Historical and Genealogical Society, D.A. R., and was a Piatt County 4-H Club leader. Ann enjoyed bowling, traveling, history, crosswords, needlework, gardening, playing piano, photography, genealogy, canning, cooking, and leading the music program at Milmine Christian Church.   

Ann is survived by her husband, Richard C. Skagenberg of Monticello; niece-in-laws, Susan Bastert of Loda, Janet Wilkins and Shelley Wolfe both of NC, Carol Warner, Susan Schultz, Renee Compton, and Pat Briggs all of OH; grand-nephews, Nathan Bastert (Bethany) of Phoenix, AZ, Benjamin Bastert (Fiancé Gwendolyn) of Camp Point, Brandon Youngberg (Kim) of Andover, Kyle Youngberg (Amy) of Aurora; nephew-in-law, Dave Youngberg of Andover;  and several great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine Bastert (Clarence) and Charlotte Rainey (Lynn); nephew, Bruce Bastert, and niece, Betty (Rainey) Youngberg, niece-in-laws Marilyn Larson and Mildred Recupero, and grand-nephew Aaron Youngberg.  

Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Bement Township Cemetery.

Robert W. "Bob” Kindred, 86, passed away at 9:19 a.m. on April 10, 2019 at his home.

Bob was born on December 13, 1932 in Atlanta, IL; son of Lloyd and Mildred (Graham) Kindred. He married Helen Marie Rice on July 8, 1956 in Lincoln, IL. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2002.

Surviving Bob are his sons: Randy Kindred of Lincoln, IL, and Steve (JoAnne) Kindred of Lincoln, IL; three grandchildren: Cassie Kindred, Marissa Kindred, and Miranda Kindred all of Lincoln, IL; one brother: Kenneth (Shirly) Kindred of Atlanta, IL. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Jean, and one brother: Lyle.

Bob proudly served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was a service manager at Graue Chevrolet. Bob loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Services for Bob will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln with Rev. Ray Pepple officiating. Dawn Louise Bauer, 51, of LeRoy, passed away at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday (April 9, 2019) at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Dawn was born April 21, 1967, in Spring Valley, a daughter of Donald and Blanche Story Dominic. Her father preceded her in death.

Surviving are son, Matthew Bauer, LeRoy; mother, Blanche (James) Naughton, Grand Ridge; brother, Kevin Naughton, Grand Ridge; sister, Debra (Tony) Cargola, Hinckley; and stepsister, Denise (Richard) Ribordy, Odell.

Dawn was a graduate of Ottawa High School, Illinois Valley Community College, and Illinois State University. She was a high school math teacher in Litchfield and Normal. She loved to scrapbook and travel. Dawn was also an avid sport shooter and member of the Foosland Gun Club. She was very outgoing and social, never meeting a stranger.

Dawn was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

Nancy Jo Abbey, 65, of Clinton passed away peacefully Saturday (April 6, 2019) with her family by her side.

She was born Sept. 26, 1953, in Gibson City, to Delmar and Mary Anderson Bedel.

Nancy is survived by her children, Lucas (Susan) Young of Scottsbluff, Neb., Nichole Brown of Indiana, Derek Young (Casey) of Champaign and Jeremy Young (Stephanie) of Hartsburg. She is also survived by her father, Delmar (Joann) Bedel; 10 grandchildren, Cameron Craig (Brittney), Casey Prewitt (Aubrey), Daisey Prewitt (Raul II), Lillie and Ivie Prewitt, Nevaeh Young, Daniel Young, Ellery Del Young, and Anna and Levi Henderson; four great-grandchildren, Kaislee Craig, Kamri and Karson Dietz and Raul Miramontes III; four sisters, Claudia Bedel (Denny), Karen Fairley, Barb (Jeff) Nagel and Susan (Steve) Lee; and four brothers, Grant (Tamee) Bedel, Mike (Shirl) Bily and Steve (Judy) Bily and Robert Borchers. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Anderson Bedel.

Nancy Jo was a homemaker who loved to spend time with her family and her beloved animals, especially her two French bulldogs, Rocoe and Gus, and her cat, Princess. She cherished her granddogs, Cagn (Derek) and Benny (Jeremy), as well.

There wasn’t a thrift shop in Illinois that Nancy Jo hadn’t visited. She was fond of butterflies and rainbows and believed that love was the greatest gift of all.

The family would like to thank Michelle, Tresa and Rick for their continued love, care and assistance over the past few years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will host a celebration of life service later this spring.

Calvin Crowell, 84, of Lincoln, IL, passed away on April 8, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family in Lincoln, IL.

Calvin was born on December 17, 1934 in Carterville, IL; the son of Clifton and Neva (Watson) Crowell. He married Mary Webster on December 4, 1954. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2011.

Calvin is survived by his four children, Mary (Jack) Deushane of Lewistown, IL, Calvin L. (Kathy) Crowell of St. Joseph, IL, Wayne Crowell of Lincoln, IL, and Jerry (Lotus) Crowell of Lincoln, IL; his ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary on January 18, 2011; two sisters, and five brothers.

Calvin served in the Army active duty 1957-1958 and inactive duty from 1959 to 1960. 

Calvin farmed all his life and was an avid gardener. He was always busy doing something, driving tractors and mowing his yard. Most of all he enjoyed playing jokes and telling jokes to his family, especially the grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

Services for Calvin will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln officiated by Larry Crawford. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service (10:00am-12:00 noon) also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln. where full military rites will be accorded by The Lincoln American Legion Post #263. Eleanor “Ellie” S. Griffin 94 of Bloomington, IL formerly of Clinton, IL passed away 6:07 PM April 7, 2019 at Mill Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, Springfield, IL.

Ellie was born September 4, 1924 in Pennington Point, McDonough County, IL the daughter of Gustav and Sophia (Johnson) Winker. She married James D. Griffin, Sr. October 28, 1945 in Bloomington, IL. He passed away March 24, 2006.

Survivors include her children, James D. (Sandy) Griffin, Jr., Springfield, IL; David W. Griffin, Clinton, IL, 2 grandchildren, Derek (Angie) Griffin, Springfield, IL; Heather (Troy) Roark, Springfield, IL; 4 great-grandchildren, Eva & Ian Griffin, Springfield, IL, and Connor & Madeline Roark, Springfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister.

Ellie was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, McLean County and DeWitt County Home Extension, Business Professional Women of Clinton, United Methodist Quilt Project, and the Clinton Beautification Club. She enjoyed her flowers.

Norma M. Booty, 92, of Monticello, passed away at 3:33 p.m., on April 5, 2019, at her residence.

Norma was born March 29, 1927 in Monticello, IL the daughter of William V. and Bonnie D. (Woodard) Gray. She married Ralph Stoerger on July 16, 1949 in Monticello. He passed away May 14, 1952. She married George Ray Booty on January 26, 1958 in Monticello. He passed away May 7, 2001.

She is survived by her son, Steven Stoerger (Teresa) of Seymour; daughter, Patricia Howard (Ralph) of Monticello; and two grandsons, Wes (Kristen) and Dana (Kimberly). She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sister Juanita Higgins, and her brother Eugene Gray.

Norma worked as a secretary at Dr. George Green’s office, Monticello. She enjoyed time spent with the members of her exercise group and the Read Hat Club. Norma enjoyed traveling with George after retirement. She loved living in Monticello and was an avid reader. Norma’s first love was her family and took great pride in all their accomplishments.  

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Monticello Township Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Monticello Township Cemetery. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello is handling the arrangements.

Madeline Harmon, 81, of Lincoln passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Quiram Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta with Rev. John Horner officiating.

Burial will be in the McLean Cemetery.

Madeline Van Hoosier was born on November 23, 1937, in Bloomington the daughter of Lester Dyke and Lorraine Ford Van Hoosier.

She was united in marriage to Joe Patterson and later married Paul Harmon on October 4, 1965. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2005.

She is survived by her children: Karen Schaub, Julie Clenin, Leonard Harmon. One sister: Delores "Lory" (William) Moore. Seven grandchildren: J. Lance Conahan, Dustin (Melissa) Schaub, Madeline "Michelle" Thomas, Tyler Clenin, Megan Clenin, and Jack Harmon. One great-grandchild: Jack Thomas.

She was preceded in death by one son: Scott Patterson, one sister: Marilyn Paice.

Madeline graduated from the McLean High School in 1955. She retired from Lehn and Fink in Lincoln. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Minier.

Carol Ann was born January 3, 1940, in Browns, Illinois, a daughter of Charles Ross & Carolyn Elizabeth Hering Dukes. She married Errol Charles Harris Stone on December 26, 1987, at Champaign, Illinois.

Survived by her husband, Errol Charles Harris Stone of Farmer City; her children, Michael Charles (Kathleen) Smith of Palm Springs, CA,; Cassandra (Lee) Hull of Liberty Hill, TX; James Daniel Stone of Greensborough, Australia; two stepsons, Jason Robert (Felicia) Stone MD of University Place, Washington and Brandon Michael (Leslie) Stone of De Soto, Illinois; grandchildren, Stephen Smith; Emily Smith; Robert Lee Hull III; Morgan Clopton; Samantha Caroline Hull; Hannah Smith; D’Elle Smith; two step-grandchildren, Maxton Alexander Stone and Braden Michael Stone; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Ellie Clopton. Preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Dennis Charles Dukes.

Phillip Lee Dial, 85, of Maroa, IL passed away 4:40 PM April 2, 2019 at Lincolnshire Place, Decatur, IL.

Phillip was born December 21, 1933 in DeWitt County, IL the son of Edward and Ida (Hall) Dial. He married Jacqueline Florimont of Clinton, IL, later married Margaret Fombelle of Maroa, IL.

Survivors include his children, Jack (Gayla) Dial, Waynesville, IL; Tracey Dial, Clinton, IL; Bryan (Yvonne) Dial, Maroa, IL; Darrin (Krista) Dial, Kenney, IL; 8 grandchildren, Dustin, Megan, Morgan, Ryland, Mason, Raymi, Carsen, and Lucas, 2 great-grandchildren, Bentlee & Braxton, brother, Robert (Sandra) Dial, Tennessee.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Anna Moss, Mary Martin, and Louise Copass, 2 brothers, Leland and George.

Phillip served his country in the US Army. He was a farmer and retired from the Illinois Central Railroad. He enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, Camping, and Dancing.

Karen S. Guy, 73, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Heritage Hospice, Springfield, IL.

Karen was born on January 10, 1946, in Lincoln, IL; the daughter of Blinn Beaver Worth and Bertha Marie (Schroeder). 

Karen is survived by her sons, Robert W. (Cindy) Guy III of Springfield, IL, Jason James (Kate Rutherford) Guy of Lincoln, IL, and Anthony Phillip (Chelsea Polen) Guy of Lincoln, IL; her sisters, Marcia Nalley, Sandra Buttell; her brother, Ronald Worth; and her eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Wanda Putnam, Doloris Phillips, Phyllis Hale, Beverly Johnson; brothers, Lowell, John, and infant James Blinn.

Karen worked at Myers Industry for many years. She was the Logan County Fair Queen in 1963. Karen was an avid Cubs and NASCAR fan; she also enjoyed playing euchre. Above all else, Karen loved her family; especially her grandchildren.

Services for Karen will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service also at the church. Burial will follow the services at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Karen’s name to The Lincoln American Legion Post #263.

Ralph Deal, 83, of Latham, IL, passed away at 4:25 p.m. on April 2, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. 

Ralph was born on August 4, 1935, in Calhoun, GA; son of Jesse and Agnes (Barnes) Deal. He married Carrie Inherst on February 19, 1954, in Gary, IN. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2018.

Surviving Ralph are his children: Brenda (Gary) Stanley of Springfield, Ed (Brenda) Deal of Latham, and David (Robin) Deal of Latham; one sister: Priscilla Kennedy of Friendswood, TX; special niece: Barbara (Joe) Lombardo; seven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.

Ralph was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur, where he was very active and taught Sunday School.

Services for Ralph will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski, IL with Joshua Smith officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service (9:00-11:00 a.m.). Burial at Lake Bank Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be made in Ralph’s name to the Latham Fire Department.

Thelma Marie Parr, 94, of Farmer City passed away on April 1, 2019. As her favorite hymn says, “There my Savior awaits and He opens the gates to the beautiful garden of prayer.” Her family takes comfort in knowing she is in that beautiful Heavenly garden.

Her graveside memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City with Susie Deeters and Jerry Hawn officiating. There will be no visitation. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on March 26, 1925, to Allie Dee & Ola Spencer Bowles. She graduated from Mansfield High School. She married Walter Tarter on May 2, 1947. He passed away October 14, 1959. She married Samuel Parr on November 23, 1961. He passed away April 24, 1995.

Thelma loved gardening, NASCAR races, and the Chicago Cubs. She attended Cowboy Church at First Christian Church, Farmer City. Thelma was also a longtime member of the Farmer City American Legion Auxiliary.

She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Thelma is survived by her brother, Willis (Adriana) Bowles, children, Marsha Pawlina, Marty (Connie) Tarter, Sue (Ed) Tess and Scott Parr, her stepchildren, Steve (Liz) Parr, Albert (Dia) Parr and Bob (Linda) Parr. She was the grandmother and step-grandmother to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Wilma Evans, her children, Sharon and Russ, Stepchildren, James, Mary Lou and Carl.
 

Michael J. Wildman, 58, of Monticello, passed away Monday evening, April 1, 2019 at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.

Mike was born June 17, 1960 in Decatur, IL the son of Roger L. and Phyllis (Huffmaster) Wildman. He married Dawn Vannice in August of 1982 and she passed away in November of 1988. He married Ann Power on June 16, 1990 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign, IL.     

Mike is survived by his wife, Ann Power Wildman of Monticello, formerly of Franklin Grove; children, Patrick of Springfield, Katherine and Brandon both of Monticello; mother, Phyllis Wildman of Sullivan; and brother, Chris Wildman of Dalton City. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.   

Mike was a 1978 graduate of Sullivan High School where he participated in golf, baseball, football, and basketball. His senior year he participated in the IHSA State basketball tournament in Champaign. He is a 1982 graduate of Purdue University. Mike was a department head for The Home Depot and was elected Monticello Township Supervisor. He was a member of the NRA, Purdue Alumni Association, Piatt County Republican Party, and a parishioner at St. Philomena Catholic Church of Monticello. He enjoyed golfing, building models, watching old Westerns, and was an Illini Fan along with being a sports fan and a history buff. He coached all his children in youth sports and enjoyed watching them grow in whatever they did. Mike was a wonderful and loyal person, husband, father, son, brother, boss, and friend.

A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Interment with cremation rites will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery at a later date.

Vivian D. Schroth, 99, of Mt. Pulaski, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2019 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, IL.

Vivian was born on October 26, 1919 in Lincoln, IL the eldest daughter of Russell D. and Edna (Scroggin) Buckles. She married Joseph A. Schroth on August 28, 1940 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2001. 

Her life will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dr. Richard (Robin Moore) Schroth of Rockville, MD; granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Schroth (Theodore Hartman); grandson, Richard Andrew Schroth; and great-grandson, Aiden Robin Hartman.

She was preceded her in death by her parents and her brother, Russell D. Buckles. Her younger sister Mary Alice Dittus resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Vivian was a life long resident of Mt. Pulaski. Descending from two early pioneer families of Logan County, the Buckles and Scroggin’s families, she was an avid historian of the town. During her long life, she became friends with many people in the Mt. Pulaski area and made a true contributor to the foundations of the surrounding community. People will remember Vivian as a caring person with a wonderful sense of humor, who made friends easily and had a strong zest for life. Vivian was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mt. Pulaski and the Mt. Pulaski Historical Society. She retired after serving as an accounting specialist in the Business Office at Lincoln College for over 15 years.

Mass will be held for Vivian at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Mt. Pulaski. Visitation will take place from 4:00-6:00 P.M. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski. Burial will follow services at Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. Bernadine was a stay at home mother, later a cook at the Wapella and Clinton School District. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, auctions at the Wapella Auction House, refinishing antiques, and most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Elizabeth “Libby” Hoskins Glasgow, age 100, of Monticello, passed away on March 31, 2019, at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.

Libby was born December 27, 1918 in Monticello, IL, to Floyd “Jack” and Ora Mae Alldridge Hoskins.

After graduating from Monticello High School in 1936, Libby worked at Kaiser Abstract Company and Caldwell Pepsin. She retired when she married Everett Glasgow on August 23, 1942. They farmed for 45 years, raising registered Shropshire sheep and Angus cattle. Everett died on November 17, 1987.

Libby was active in several organizations. She was a member for more than sixty years of the Piatt County Home and Community Education, as well as Kirby Auxiliary. For 17 years, she served as National Breed Secretary in the Monticello office of the American Shropshire Registry Association until her retirement in 1987. From 1929 on she was also a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three nieces: Jane Murphy of Camarillo, CA; Rebecca Coira of Tequesta, FL; and Sara Sanders of Sartell, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Virginia, and her brother John “Jack”. In her later years she enjoyed a long friendship with Diane Alexander. She was also an ardent Cubs fan.

Graveside services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Monticello Township Cemetery with Rev. Craig Sweet officiating. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello is handling the arrangements.

Lois "Maxine” Hum, 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Saint Clara’s Manor, Lincoln, IL.

Maxine was born on December 5, 1934 in Lincoln, IL; the daughter of Theodore and Gladys (Devine) Ramlow. She married Harold Hum on August 5, 1956 in Lincoln, IL. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2008.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Marla (Don) Williams; her son, Scott (Kim) Hum; her grandchildren, Amy Williams and Ryan (Ali) Williams; and her great-grandchildren, Harper Williams and Barrett Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Carl; and sister, Carlene Ramlow-Hinton.

Maxine was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, The Mary Martha Circle, The Lincoln Oasis, and was on the ALMH Auxiliary Board of Directors. She enjoyed volunteering her time at ALMH. Above all else, Maxine took pride in that she was the mother to Marla and Scott, grandma to Amy Williams and Ryan (Ali) Williams, and great-grandma to Harper and Barrett Williams.

Services for Maxine will be held at 10:00a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, IL. Larry Thomas Lichtenwalter, 71, of Lincoln, passed away March 29, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 5 pm. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Larry was born March 16, 1948 in Lincoln, IL., the son of Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Clevenger) Lichtenwalter. He married Deborah Winter in 1974. He retired from the State of Illinois, working maintenance at the Attorney General’s Office. Larry was also formerly employed at Logan Correctional. He was precinct committeeman for Logan County Democrats, East Lincoln 9. He enjoyed scratch-off lottery tickets and coin collecting.

Surviving are his wife Deborah Lichtenwalter; daughter Laura (Michael) Groh, son Todd (Jennifer) Lichtenwalter, son Phillip (Scott) Lichtenwalter; 8 grandchildren; brother Ronald (Myrna) Lichtenwalter and sister Joyce Lichtenwalter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Richard and sister Ellen Moore.

Clifford Eugene “Snorky” Estes Sr., 91, of LeRoy, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday (March 27, 2019) at his home.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, April 1 at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, followed by military rites at the funeral home. There will be no service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ruel Neal American Legion Post 79, LeRoy or Fred O'Malley VFW Post 6190, Farmer City.

Clifford was born Feb. 15, 1928, at LeRoy, a son of Gobel and Lula Ann Mills Estes. He married Lucia Pauline Donato on April 22, 1950, in Fitzwilliam, N.H.

He is survived by his wife, Lucia Pauline Estes, LeRoy; five children, Clifford Eugene (Kimberly) Estes Jr., Columbia, S.C.; Janet (Scott) Whitehouse, Farmer City; Robert Estes, Sebastian, Fla.; Vivian (Robert) Van Deventer, Jacksonville, Fla.; Michael Estes, LeRoy; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Eleanor Yount, LeRoy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Norman Estes; two brothers and two sisters.

Clifford was a World War II Navy veteran and served 30 years in the Navy.

Clifford and his family moved to Farmer City in 1970 and opened a restaurant called Snorky's Place for a few years. He also was an automobile salesman for McConkey Motor Co., Farmer City, for several years.

Clifford was a member of the Ruel Neal American Legion Post 79, LeRoy, and Fred O'Malley VFW Post 6190, Farmer City.

Leighton Vance Dunkin Jr., 70, of LeRoy, left his life here on Earth at 2 a.m. Thursday (March 28, 2019) surrounded by his family at home.

A celebration of life will be 1 to 3 p.m. April 7 at Ruel Neal Post 79 American Legion, LeRoy. Inurnment will be in Bloomfield National Cemetery, Bloomfield, Mo., at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Leighton was born Nov. 20, 1948, in Bloomington, the oldest son of Eileen (Williams) and Leighton Dunkin Sr. He married Bettie Payne on March 16, 1968. She survives.

Also surviving are daughter, Valerie Martin, LeRoy; son, Brandon (Aubri) Dunkin, Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren, Bradley Simmons Jr., Gabi Martin, and Josiah Dunkin; brother, David Allen (Chris) Dunkin, Bloomington; sister, Mary Jo (Robert “Gene”) O’Neal, LeRoy; and two other special brothers-in-law, Dennis (Hazel) Birkey, Sheldon, and Freddie Payne, Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Estello Birkey.

Leighton was a proud Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Little-Embry-Rainey VFW Post 1559, Ruel Neal Post 79 American Legion, DAV Chapter 60, and McLean County Nuggettiers.

Leighton was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, is in charge of arrangements.

Dona Howe Amdor, 93, of Farmer City passed away at 1:55 A.M. Friday, March 29, 2019, at her residence. 

Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday, April 5, 2019, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cunningham Children’s Home, Urbana, Illinois, or Weedman United Methodist Church, Farmer City.

Dona was born May 31, 1925, at Bloomington, Illinois, a daughter of Frank L. & Elma Bailey Simpson. She married J. Maurice Howe on August 18, 1944, at Prairie Chapel Church, Farmer City. He passed away July 6, 2002. She later married Dr. John Amdor on January 1, 2004, at Weedman United Methodist Church, Farmer City. He passed away November 24, 2005.

Survived by her children, Sharon (Terry) Murphy of Castle Rock, CO; Sandra Atkinson of Monticello, IL; Kathy (Jerry) Hoover of New Carlisle, IN; Carole (Randy) Kopp of Farmer City, IL; Janet (Doyle) Otto of Farmer City, IL; Joe (Nancy) Howe of Farmer City, IL; 13 Grandchildren; 19 Great-grandchildren; 2 Great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Reed of Mackinaw, IL.

Preceded in death by her husbands, J. Maurice Howe and Dr. John Amdor, parents, and an infant sister.

Dona attended Browns Business School, Illinois Commercial College and Indiana Central College. She was the active president and bookkeeper for the family farm corporation. She was a member of the Weedman United Methodist Church and played the piano or organ at the former Prairie Chapel Church and the Weedman United Methodist Church for 75 years. She enjoyed playing for nursing homes, weddings, funerals, and many other occasions. Dona was a member and past president of the Weedmen United Methodist Women and the Farmer City Shakespeare Club. She served on several boards including the Cunningham Children’s Home, was a volunteer at the Farmer City Nursing Home and a volunteer driver for people in the community. She loved her music, her family and her God.

Cherry Ellen Jackson Kingston, 95, a resident of Martin Health Center, Bloomington, formerly of Weldon passed away peacefully in the arms of her Savior at 2:11 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2019.  She was born October 8, 1923 in Weldon the daughter of Andrew and Leita (Gray) Jackson.  She married Corwin Kingston on August 3, 1947.  She is survived by her daughter, Cherene (Gary) White of Deland and son Kevin (Jennifer) Kingston of Bloomington.  Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Charity (Joshua) Shofner, Weldon and Garin White, Deland, Chelsea (Steve) Erickson of Hamilton, Massachusetts and Taylor Kingston (fiancé, Michael Le - Boston, Massachusetts) of Somerville, Massachusetts.  One beloved great-granddaughter, Cydney Shofner also survives.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brother, Bennie Jackson, of Hobart, Indiana.

Services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Weldon United Methodist Church, Weldon, Il. with Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating. Burial will follow at Nixon Township Cemetery, Weldon, IL. Visitation will be 5:30 – 7:30 PM, Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Il.

Memorials may be directed to the Weldon United Methodist Church or Westminster Village Foundation in Bloomington. 

Cherry was a graduate of Nixon Township High School in 1942 and Illinois State University in 1946 with a teaching degree in English.  Her first teaching position was in Paxton in 1946.  From then on, she loved teaching and was a life-long learner.  She was an avid reader and wrote and directed many plays.  She loved poetry and writing poems came easily to her.  She was an excellent note taker for every committee she ever served on and those are too numerous to mention.  She loved her church, the Weldon United Methodist, of which she was a lifetime member.  She was an original founding member of Martha Circle in the church and spent many hours serving others.  She taught kindergarten in Sunday School for many years and on the nurture (education) committee and directed many Christmas and Easter programs. She worked tirelessly for her church and community.

She was an excellent cook and loved having her family for Sunday dinner among countless other occasions.  She entertained family and friends for many years.  It was her love and passion.  Her faith, family and friends were her highest priority. 

She and Corwin enjoyed numerous trips with friends over the years and were blessed to see many sights in the U.S. and abroad.  She loved spending time in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida but would only stay six weeks in the winter as she missed being home too much.

Cherry will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Betty Jean Cox 79 of Argenta, IL passed away 7:30 PM March 28, 2019 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Services will be 11 AM, Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with Pastor Brian Minott officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM, Monday, April 1, 2019 at the funeral home and one hour prior to service on Tuesday.  Family requests casual attire - especially Argenta-Oreana Bomber apparel.

Memorials may be directed to the Betty Jean Cox Memorial Fund for her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren.

Betty was born January 27, 1940 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Richard and Mary (Edwards) Moore. She married Robert E. “Gene” Cox April 22, 1960 in Decatur, IL. He passed away May 5, 2009.

Survivors include her children, Gary Cox, Argenta, IL; and Angie Puckett, Argenta, IL; 5 grandchildren: Andrea Lawson; Gary Cox II; Richard (Angie) Cox; Brandi Puckett; Tawni (David) Scott; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronnie Moore.

Betty drove a school bus for 48 years.  She enjoyed camping and dancing.

Fay O. Kaufman 95 of Maroa, Illinois passed away 7:41 PM March 28, 2019 at Manor Court, Clinton, Il.

Graveside services will be 11 AM, Monday, April 1, 2019 at Maroa Cemetery, Maroa, IL with her niece Tammy Hoffman officiating.  Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM, Monday, April 1, 2019 at Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Weldon Springs Foundation.

Fay was born March 30, 1923 in Texas Township, DeWitt County, IL the daughter of William A. and Nellie M. (Poole) Hoffman. She married Delbert E. Kaufman June 19, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa. He passed away March 21, 2007.

Survivors include her only brother, Gene Hoffman, Clinton, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters:  Margaret “Sis” Hoffman, Helen Menapace, and Bonnie Miller; brothers:  William “Bill”, Edward, and Llew. 

Fay owned her own beautician business for several years.  She also helped her husband, Delbert, with farm tasks.  Fay enjoyed gardening and canning her vegetables.  Yard work and taking care of her flowers was also one of her favorite hobbies.  Fay loved animals and enjoyed caring for them.
