Clayton Thomas Wiggins of Monticello

Clayton Thomas Wiggins, 13, of Monticello, passed away at 10:04 p.m., Monday, November 17, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2014 at the St. Philomena Catholic Church, 1301 N. Market St., Monticello. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the St. Philomena Catholic Church with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Interment will be held in Croninger Cemetery, Cisco. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello is handling the arrangements.

Clay was born May 24, 2001 in Springfield, IL the son of Matthew and Jennifer (Parsons) Wiggins.

Survivors include his parents; Matt and Jennifer Wiggins of Monticello, brother; Austin Wiggins of Monticello, grandparents; Ronnie and Peggy Parsons of Cisco, Tom and Jane Wiggins of Monticello, aunts and uncles; Sarah (Eric) Nieukirk of Morton, Annie (Joel) Camacho of Monticello, and Amy (Arthur) McTaggart of Grand Cayman Island.

Clay was a Seventh grade student at the Monticello Middle School and was a member of the St. Philomena Catholic Church, Monticello. Clay was a Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed being at the beach and loved watching his brother Austin play baseball.

Whoever you might be; his classmates, teachers, family, or friends, Clay would instantly capture your heart with his smile. Clay was so well loved by all his cousins and he shared an endearing friendship with Chelsi Thomas, commonly referred to as “his Chelsi”.

Donald L. Ragland of Lincoln

Donald L. Ragland, 74, of Lincoln, died at 2:53 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 12, 2014) at his home.

Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, with the Rev. Candida Turner officiating.

Burial: Atlanta Cemetery.

Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Safe Haven Hospice or Humane Society of Logan County.

Survivors: two daughters, Crystal (David) Hickey, Lincoln; Candace (Steve) Buche, Lincoln; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester (Connie) Ragland, Lincoln; and one sister, Judi (Marvin) Guthrie, Sandoval.

Leland G. Williams of Deland

Leland G. Williams, 85, of DeLand, passed away at 4:39 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2014) at his family home in DeLand.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at DeLand Christian Church, DeLand, with Jim Kilson and The Rev. Danny Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to DeLand Christian Church.

Leland was born June 1, 1929, in Ramsey, the son of Alvin and Deneen Franklin Williams. He married Betty Parrish on Oct. 1, 1948, in DeLand.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Williams, DeLand; children, Russell Williams, Barbara Nichols and Elizabeth Williams, all of DeLand, and Leanne (John) Griffin, Tolono; brother, Larry (Judy) Williams, Arkansas; sister, Sharon (Jim) Hull, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Leland was a member of DeLand Christian Church. He had worked for General Cable in Monticello for 31 years.

Clara Nell Hammitt of Farmer

Clara Nell “Nellie” Hammitt, 95, of Farmer City, died at 11:47 a.m. Monday (Nov. 10, 2014) at Farmer City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

A private graveside service will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

She was born March 1, 1919, in Champaign, daughter of Joseph B. and Aileen Connor Moore. She married Martin Scott Hammitt on Dec. 23, 1939. He preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter and one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Kathie Jo Thoennes, Bloomington; two sons, M. Kent (Wendy) Hammitt, Farmer City, and M. Kirk (Joan) Hammitt, Spring Valley; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Nellie attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, where she earned her teaching certificate. She enjoyed a long career teaching elementary school in Danvers and Stanford, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Nellie’s family would like to express a special thank-you to all of the staff members at the Farmer City Rehabilitation and Care Center for their compassionate and professional care.

Angeline P. Olivero Smith of Clinton

Angeline P. “Angie” Olivero Smith, 86, of Clinton, formerly of Decatur, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Manor Court of Clinton.

Angie was born July 17, 1928 in Gibson City, IL, the daughter of John and Minnie (Evylinn) Olivero. A Gold Star mother, Angie was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and worked as an inspector/tester for G.E. for many years. She married Russell N. Smith on August 31, 1946 and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2011. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sons: Mike and John and special friend Dora Caylor.

Surviving is her son, Thomas “Mark” (wife, Betty) Smith of Clinton; grandchildren: Leann (husband, Ryan) Sosamon, John Thomas (wife, Katelyn) Smith and Shelby Smith; great-grandchildren: Russell and Winifred Sosamon; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at St. Thomas Church; visitation will be one hour prior in the church. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

Twilla R. Daily of Cerro Gordo

Twilla R. Daily, 67, Cerro Gordo, died Thursday (Nov. 6, 2014).

Betty Lou Thomas of Heyworth

Betty Lou Thomas, 86, rural Heyworth, went home to be with the Lord Thursday (Nov. 6, 2014) at her residence.

Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Danny McCubbins officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the memorial home.

Betty was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Normal, a daughter of George Stanley and Alta Orendorff Downs. She married Johnny B. Thomas Jr. on Sept. 11, 1949, at the Methodist Church, Heyworth. He died Aug. 29, 2011.

Survivors include two sons, John Arthur Thomas and Richard Wayne Thomas, both of Heyworth; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and five sisters.

She earned a two-year teaching degree from Illinois State Normal University. Betty formerly worked for State Farm Insurance Cos. in downtown Bloomington and later as a nurse's aide at both Mennonite Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington.

Betty was a member of the Letitia Green Stevenson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She taught Sunday school at Evangelical United Brethren Church in the 1960s and at Evangelical Free Church, both in Bloomington, in the 1970s and 1980s.

Betty loved the Lord very much and encouraged all she met to have a strong relationship with the Lord.

Chris F. Koss, Sr of Monticello

Chris F. Koss, Sr., 101, of Monticello, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the Bement Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Monticello Township Cemetery with Rev. Cindy Retig officiating. No visitation. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Chris was born August 22, 1913 in Mason City, IA the son of Charlie and Dora (Zeimer) Koss. He married Mabel Wood on May 14, 1933 in Monticello, IL. She passed away March 6, 2011.

Survivors include his daughters; Joyce Dunlap and Carolyn Golias both of Monticello, son; Chris Koss, Jr. of Bement, 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 grandson, 1 great granddaughter, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Chris was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the White Heath United Methodist Church, the White Heath Community Club, Piatt County Farm Bureau, and enjoyed woodworking.

Mike L. Ensign of Bement

Mike L. Ensign, 45 of Milmine, IL., passed away at 5:50 P.M., on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at his residence in Milmine.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M., on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Roux – Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement, IL. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 A.M., on Monday at the Bement Township Cemetery. The Pat Tieman will officiate. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mike L. Ensign memorial fund in care of Roux – Hinds Funeral Home.

Mike was born on August 1, 1969 a son of John and Betty Burke Ensign. Survivors include 2 sisters; Brenda (Ken) Miller of Atwood, IL., and Tina (Mike) Durbin of Bement., a brother; Robert (Kelly) Ensign of Hammond, IL., as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike was a truck driver, and he enjoyed working on his car and turkey shoots, and loved his dog, baby girl.

Raymond Wells Jr. of Monticello

Raymond Wells Jr., 72, of Monticello, passed away at 8:30 PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at his residence with his family by his side. Visitation will be Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral service will be Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Cross Road Church in Monticello, Illinois at 10:00 AM with Pastor Mike Heiniger and Pastor Jack Greenwood Officiating. Interment will be at the Monticello Township Cemetery. Raymond was born May 9, 1942 in Martinsville, Illinois the son of Raymond and Opal Irene (Harris) Wells. He married Suzanne (Jennings) Wells March 22, 1986 in Joliet, Illinois. Surviving is his wife Suzanne, children Tammy (Mark) Evans of Cowden, IL; Donna (James) VanMatre of LaPlace, IL; Crystal Wells of Mt. Zion, IL; Raymond (Lisa) Wells of Goshen, OH; Bonnie (Perry) Eveland of Ocean Springs, MS; Matthew Wells of Monticello, IL; Emily wells of Monticello, IL; and Sarah Wells of Monticello, IL; 16 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Brothers Larry Wells, Robert Wells, David Wells, Paul Wells, and Jim Wells. Sisters Darlene Townsley, Barbara Whisnant, Sharon Green. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Karen Applegate and Shirley Guntle. Raymond was a Real estate Investor in Monticello and Decatur area. Shirley Ann Rueger of Clinton

Shirley Ann (Whitney) Fenner Rueger, 76 of Clinton, IL passed away 5:20 P.M. November 4, 2014 at Asta Care Center of Bloomington, IL.

Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Pastor Dan Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella, IL. Friends may call from 6 – 8 P.M. Friday, November 7, 2014 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.

Shirley was born January 11, 1938 in Kenney, IL the daughter of Glenn A. and Catherine (Spencer) Whitney. She married Darell Gene Rueger March 29, 1968 in Clinton, IL. He passed away March 9, 2009.

Survivors include her children: Marty (Linda) Fenner, Clinton, IL, Kelley Rueger, Clinton, IL, Ernest Fenner, Clinton, IL, Tina (Steve) Tuttle, Clinton, IL, Rusty (Mary) Fenner, Clinton, IL, Rowena (Michael) Fuller, Wapella, IL, Nannette (Russell) Birch, Chestnut, IL, Walter (Sue) Rueger, Mountain Home, ID; siblings: David (Barbara) Whitney, Clinton, IL, Mike (Pam) Whitney, Clinton, IL, Judy Gilbert, Hartsburg, IL, Patsy (Ed) Gunn, Florida, Beverly Fiel, Russellton, PA; 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Joyce McGarry, Mavis Elwood, Helen Whitney.

Shirley worked at and retired from both Eureka Williams and Cracker Barrel. She enjoyed fishing and gardening.
