Darwin “Dob” Howry, 99, of Clinton died at 8 p.m. Friday (June 29, 2012) at his family home in Clinton.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. The family requests casual attire. David Stephenson and J. Kent Hickerson will officiate. Cremation rites were accorded. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Little Galilee Christian Assembly, Weldon Springs Foundation or a memorial of the donor’s choice.

He was born March 30, 1913, in Graham, Texas, to Rufus Jackson Howry and Kate Paschal Howry. He married Jean Jandrew on March 25, 1956, in Vernal, Utah.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Howry, Clinton; children, Kelly (Debbie) Howry, Clinton; Karen (Stuart) Campbell, Cary, N.C.; Kay (Tim) Bostwick, Hendersonville, Tenn.; Koni (Ken) Lovett, Clinton; 12 grandchildren, Travis, Kelsey, Allie, Jordan, Connor, Spencer, Tyler, Taysha, Tanner, Reese, Sadie and Betsy; and one great-grandchild, Maddox.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jesse Howry; and one sister, Lucille “Boots” Hart.

Dob was the superintendent of the oil fields northeast of Wapella from its beginning in 1962. He retired in 1984 at age 71.

He enjoyed camping, traveling and being with his family and recently danced at his 99th birthday surrounded by his entire family and friends.

Delores “Dee” M. Ticknor Snapp, 76, Monticello, formerly of Mount Zion and Decatur, passed away Thursday (June 28, 2012) at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello. Patricia F. Barche, 81, Clinton, formerly of Olney and Iuka, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Monday (June 25, 2012) at Liberty Village Manor Court, Clinton.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney, with the Rev. Steve Griener officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Patricia was born  March 21, 1931, in Olney, the daughter of William and Blondeana Worrell Houser. She married Melvin E. Barche Sr. on March 20, 1951.

She is survived by one son, Chip; special friend, Paula Trice, Olney; and one daughter, Sissy Leggett and husband Rick, Clinton. Also surviving are siblings, Marianne Houser, Iuka; Jane Bateman and special friend Ernie Sutherlin, Flora; and Bill Houser, Iuka; grandsons, James Harmon and wife Sarah, Normal; Matthew Barche and wife Vivian, Goodlettsville, Tenn.; and Nathan Morris, Colorado; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Patricia was a member of First Baptist Church, Olney, as well as a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She graduated from East Richland High School. Upon graduation, she worked for attorney Lawrence L. Arnold until she moved to Virginia with her husband. She worked for the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center in Washington, D.C. from 1954 to 1957. In 1955, she was presented an award of merit at the Pentagon by Col. Edward I. Pratt Jr., USAF commander. She returned to Illinois in 1959 to raise her children and worked as a caseworker for the state of Illinois Department of Public Aid until her retirement in 1982.

She enjoyed singing and tap dancing and performed in the sorority variety shows in Olney for many years. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and sister; her children were her life; and she will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful employees at Liberty Village, past and present, who have cared for Patricia for the last five years. Your kindness, compassion and caring is truly appreciated; she loved you all.

Lorena Ruth Smith, 79, of Monticello, passed away and went to heaven on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer.. Ronald Edward Ipsen, 74, Clinton, died at 8:33 a.m. Monday (June 18, 2012) at Dr. John Warner Hospital, Clinton.

He was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Cook County, son of Elmer Ipsen and Esther Holmes. He married Bonnie J. Britsch on June 2, 1962, in Lincoln. She passed away March 11, 2008.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen L. Duran (Ed), Normal; one son, Bill E. Ipsen (Priya), Champaign; and two grandchildren, Anthony S. Duran and Grant E. Ipsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Clinton.

Ronald was a retired instructor for GTE, a member of the Clinton Kiwanis Club and the Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association. He was also a board member of the DeWitt County Museum.

She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived her life by example and gave meaning to unselfish love, wisdom, courage and character. She affected us all and will forever live in our hearts.

Harold L. Williamson, 77, Lincoln, passed away Sunday (June 17, 2012) at his home.

Harold Lee Williamson was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Mount Vernon, the son of George Herbert and Grace Wells Williamson. He married Carolyn Witzel on April 12, 1958. She preceded him in death. He later married Pat Ward Cavenaile on July 4, 1992. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Kimmie McDowell Williamson, at home; Timothy (Kim) Williamson, Texas; Stephen (Vicki) Williamson, Mount Carmel; James (Cindy) Williamson, Texas; and David (Tracey) Williamson, Bloomington; stepchildren, David (Susie) Cavenaile, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Barbara (Jeff) Clott, Lincoln; and Mark Cavenaile, St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Joe (Joan) Mayo, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.

Mr. Williamson graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Lincoln Christian University and St. Louis Christian University.

Mr. Williamson recently retired from the First Christian Church in Arcola. He has served as a minister for more than 50 years, doing ministry in many Central Illinois communities. Locally, he served the Armington Christian Church.

Scott Michael Nelson, 40, Clinton, passed away at 7:10 p.m. June 14, 2012, at his residence in Clinton.

Scott was born Oct. 11, 1971, in Clinton, the son of Charles and Nellie Fields Nelson, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Nellie, Clinton; two sons, Brady Scott and Ashton Steven; and special aunt and uncle, Ernie and Mildred Danner. Scott is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Jr.; maternal grandparents, Lewis and Mildred Fields; and paternal grandparents, Charles and Ethel Nelson.

Scott was born on his great-grandfather Henry E. Preston’s birthday.

He worked as a cook for many years at Grecian Garden. Scott was in ill health for several years due to diabetes.

Scott loved watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears on TV. He was a member of Waynesville Christian Church.

He also was a former DeWitt County the States Attorney. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Tom enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and gardening. Mostly importantly, he loved his family and will deeply be missed.

Conus Taylor, 83, Heyworth, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Friday (June 1, 2012) at Heritage Health Center, Bloomington.

Conus was born June 13, 1928, in Butler County, Ky., son of Clemon and Ethel Felty Taylor. He married Marjorie Sutter 62 years ago on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Carol (Dennis, deceased) Hanafin and Cheryl (Dan) Gebhardt, both of Heyworth; and son, Ron (Laurie) Taylor, Round Rock, Texas; eight grandchildren, Melinda (Mike) Decker, Bryan Hanafin, Darin (Mandy) Hanafin, Karen (Andy) Maharas, Jeannie (Jeremy) Mayfield, Marnie Gebhardt, and Blake and Ashley Taylor; 13 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Wylie and Walker Hanafin, Briar Fish, Brody and Brayd Hanafin, Jahden Blanton, Braden and Trenton Decker, Kaylyne, Westin and Keatin Mayfield and Jolee Maharas.

Conus retired in 1991 after 42 years at Funk Seeds International. He was a member of the United Church of Heyworth, a 50-plus year member of the Decatur chapter Izaak Walton League and past member of the McLean Merry Mixers and Bloomington Circle 15 Square Dance clubs.

He loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taking them camping. He took pride in being the groundskeeper at LaTeaDa Tearoom in Clinton and was known for being able to fix anything.

Sue A. Richards, 68, of Farmer City passed away at 9 a.m. Friday (June 1, 2012) at the Farmer City Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Farmer City. The Rev. Nadine Preston will officiate.  There will be no visitation. Cremation rites are accorded. Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer, is in charge of arrangements.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the activities department of the Farmer City Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Richards was born on April 26, 1944, in Worth. She was the daughter of Everett Wayne and Clara Belle Wallis Richards.

Survivors include three children, Sarah (Larry) O’Neal, Farmer City; Jennifer (Jeff) Soucek, Bloomington; and Leonard Kirby, Farmer City; and four grandchildren, Jade, Jacquelyn and Clint O’Neal and Madison Kirby.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Richards.

She was the former activities director at the nursing home in Farmer City. She had a strong faith and attended for many years the Farmer City United Methodist Church and Trinity Church in Farmer City. Sue was an avid reader, and loved sewing, quilting and scrapbooking.
