Dennis R. Stanley

Lincoln – Dennis R. Stanley, 57, of Lincoln, formerly of Bloomington, passed away at 11:01 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Lincoln Village Healthcare Center in Lincoln.

Graveside Memorial Services for Dennis will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bloomington. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life is also planned.

Dennis Ray Stanley was born December 15, 1964, in Peoria, the son of William E. and Rosemary Heinrich Stanley.

Dennis is survived by five siblings: William (Kristin) Stanley, Alfred (Willa) Stanley, Mae Stanley, John (Tammie) Stanley, and Artie (Steven) Wilburn; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis had worked as a janitor in a doctor’s office, a roofer, and a karaoke DJ with his Dizzy D’s Karaoke service. He enjoyed playing pool and especially playing basketball with S.O.A.R. through the Bloomington Parks District.

Robert "Bob" L. Sessions

Robert “Bob” L. Sessions 91 of Clinton, IL passed away 6:30 PM October 22, 2022 at Manor Court, Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday October 26, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with military honors. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Clinton FFA.

 

Bob was born July 24, 1931 in Clinton, IL the son of Charles L. and Audrey (McIlvenna) Sessions. He married Wilma Joan Hoge July 24, 1951 in Birkbeck, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife Joan Sessions, Clinton, IL; children Dwayne L. (Mindy Kay) Sessions, Clinton, IL, Kurt W. (Renee) Sessions, Maryville, TN, and Martina L. (Tim) McShane, Bloomington, IL; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and sister, Ileane Peters, DeWitt, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and one grandson Kyle McShane.

 

Bob was the owner/operator of Sessions Electric in Clinton since 1966.  He was a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL, a charter member of the Clinton FFA in 1945 and a past member of the Elks. Bob was a veteran of the US Army.

Dale E. Nelson

Dale E. Nelson, 63, of Clinton, IL passed away 6:51 PM October 14, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

 

A visitation for Dale will be held from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM Friday October 21, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Dale E. Nelson Memorial Fund c/o Shawna Nelson.

 

Dale was born April 29, 1959 in Clinton, IL the son of Sharon McGhee. He married Shawna Welch on March 22, 2012 in Clinton, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Shawna Nelson, Clinton, IL; children Keri (Nathan Gee) Nelson, Kaye (Lorin) Riddle, Raymond (Missy Bragg) Nelson, Jerad (Josie Ballenger) Nelson, Jarad (Sandra Davis) Bryant, Cody Bryant, Clarence Bryant, Collin Bryant, Carlye Parson, Jessika Parson, and Jaycee Nelson, 20 grandchildren, and many loving siblings.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Nelson, who he married in 1987, along with his mother Sharon McGhee, and a daughter Jacinda Jiles.

 

Dale enjoyed working with his hands whether he was cooking or working on a carpentry project. If he wasn’t working, he could be found watching one of his favorite John Wayne movies. Dale was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all.

Kenneth L. Craig

McLean – Kenneth L. Craig, 79, of rural McLean, passed away at 12:56 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Funeral Services for Mr. Craig will be on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Rev. Tami Werschey-Kessinger will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Waynesville. Military Rites will be accorded.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Kenneth Lowell Craig was born November 25, 1942, in Stanford, the son of Fred A. and Hazel I. Plienes Craig.

He is survived by his children: Randy Craig and Kristy Craig; their mother, Janet (Bryan) Buck, two grandchildren: Kaitlyn Reynolds and Bethany Reynolds; and one brother, Wayne Gene (Judith) Craig.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Carol LaDew, Russel Craig and Alan Craig.

He was a 1960 graduate of McLean-Waynesville High School and served in the United States Army. Kenny was a member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church and the Early V8 Ford Club of Bloomington. Retired from Caterpillar in Decatur where he worked as a millwright, Kenny rarely missed an auction. A collector of many things, Kenny shared a glimpse of his stock on an episode of American Pickers in 2008. He also enjoyed going to dirt-track races at Farmer City and Fairbury.

Memorials in his memory may be made to the Waynesville United Methodist Church, Humane Society of Logan County or DeWitt County Animal Shelter.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.

Stephen D. Thompson

Stephen D. Thompson, 59 of Clinton, IL passed away at 10:12 PM October 12, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.

 

Services will be 11 AM, Monday, October 17, 2022 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 2 – 4 PM, Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or a Pet -friendly charity of your choice.

 

Steve was born July 31, 1963 in Carbondale, IL, the son of Duane Thompson and Carol (May) Thompson, and grew up in Clinton with his parents Carol and Dennie Bray.

 

Survivors include his parents Carol and Dennis Bray, Clinton, IL; sister, Dana Stewart, Santa Monica, CA; half-sister, Laura (Chris) Dyrstad, Santa Clarita, CA; and half-brother, David (Sharon) Thompson, Philo, IL.

 

Steve graduated from the University of Illinois and was a microbiologist and part of the team that developed Flu-Mist. Dedicated to his career and world wide travels, he did find time for the California lifestyle which included hiking and spear fishing.  He retired young, moving back to central Illinois to spend time with friends, and enjoyed curling up with a Kindle version of a good book. He loved cooking for others and was just as comfortable with deer meat as live sea urchin. His dry sense of humor, tender heart and a deep love for his family will make him impossible to forget.  He leaves behind Tripp, the Facebook famous feline that will enjoy life with Grandma and Grandpa. Future rainbows will always remind us that Steve remains alive in our hearts.

Clinton G. Rhodes

Clinton G. Rhodes, 81, of Midland City, IL passed away 7:35 A.M. October 10, 2022 at the Warner Hospital and Health Services, Clinton, IL.

 

Graveside Services will be 11 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2022 at McClimans Cemetery, Hallsville, IL with Scott Marsh officiating. There will be no visitation.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

 

Memorials may be directed to Little Galilee Christian Assembly or the Alzheimer’s Association.

 

Clinton was born September 19, 1941 in St. Charles, Missouri the son of Lowell and Margie (Garland) Rhodes. He married Beverly Huffman July 11, 1978 in Alexandria, VA.

 

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Rhodes, Midland City, IL; children: Ted (Julie) Rhodes, Princeton, IL; Joseph (Trisha) Adams, Clinton, IL; Tony (Jennifer) Rhodes, Clinton, IL; and Juanita (Robert Huston) Rhodes, Clinton, IL; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters: Barbara (Larry) Luster, Clinton, IL; Elizabeth (Roger) Hendrix, Crowley, TX; Marilyn Wall, Burleson, TX; and Margie (Rick) Kallmayer, Burleson, TX.

 

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Clayton D. Rhodes and sister, Beverly Jane Rhodes.

 

Clinton worked at Revere Copper & Brass for 45 years as a Supervisor.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was a 48 year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Cheryl L. Hosier

Cheryl L. Hosier, 65, of Clinton, IL passed away 2:17 A.M. October 8, 2022 at the Warner Hospital and Health Services, Clinton, IL.

 

Celebration of Cheryl’s Life will be 5:00 PM Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the Kenney Community Center, Kenney, IL. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Cheryl was born March 25, 1957 in Decatur, IL the daughter of George C. and Omega (Link) Taylor. She married William K. “Bill” Hosier December 4, 1982 in Decatur, IL.

 

Survivors include her husband, William K. “Bill” Hosier, Clinton, IL; children Garett P. (Fiancé Leslie Vieweg) Hosier, Macon, IL, Kate (Clint) Appel, Nicholasville, KY, and Wyatt Z. (Ashley) Hosier, Clinton, IL; four grandchildren and one on the way; two brothers Tony (Cathy) Taylor, Tucson, AZ, Mark (Linda) Taylor, Mahomet, IL; and one sister Michelle (Mike) Valentine, Kenney, IL.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Cheryl was an EMT in Clinton, IL for many years and was currently employed by Marcfirst in Normal, IL. She loved dogs and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Tracy Michael Gambrel

Tracy Michael Gambrel 54 of Clinton, IL passed away 2:55 PM October 8, 2022 at his family residence, Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be 11AM Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Ernie Harvey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 6 – 7:30 PM Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Area Men’s Christian Fellowship in Care of the Little Galilee Christian Assembly.

 

Tracy was born October 25, 1967, in Decatur, IL the son of Rex and Sandra (Daniels) Gambrel.

 

Survivors include his parents, Rex and Sandra Gambrel, Clinton, IL; daughter, Alyssa (Mark) Meade, Cuba, IL; grandson, Issiah Grambrel-Knoth, Marissa, IL; sister, Lisa (Brett) Alvis, Clinton, IL; nephews, Tyler and Jared Gambrel, Clinton, IL; along with several great nieces and a great nephew.

 

Tracy was a member of the Kenney Christian Church. He enjoyed Harley Davidson, Chicago Cubs, and rock music. He truly loved the lord and cooking a wide array of dishes.

Robert E. McKinney

Robert E. McKinney 80 of Clinton, IL passed away 2:35 A.M. October 5, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital, Springfield, IL.

 

Services will be 11 AM, Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Scott Marsh officiating. Burial will follow at Texas Township Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM, Monday at the funeral home.

Robert was born January 10, 1942 in Clinton, IL the son of John and Bernadine (Knackmuhs) McKinney.

 

Survivors include his brother, Kenneth McKinney, Springfield, MO; nieces:  Kerri Rasmussen, Ash Flat, AR; Lorri Bowles, Bethany, IL; Sherry Roper, Clever, MO; Patricia Wright, Pana, IL;  and Amy Givens, Slater, MO; and nephew, Steve McKinney, Moody, AL; many great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Robert was a Ham Radio operator.  He especially loved farming.

Ruth Joy Poling

Ruth Joy Poling, 92, of Monticello, Ill. passed away at Farmer City Rehab & Health Care in Farmer City, Ill. on October 1, 2022.

 

Joy was born April 15, 1930 in Decatur, Ill., the daughter of Russel J. and Ruth Taylor Mowry. She grew up in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. and lived in Cisco and Monticello, Ill., and in Xenia, Ohio. She married Robert C. Zimmerman on July 4,1950. He preceded her in death in 1984. She later married Philip Poling, who passed away in 2021.

 

Survivors include daughter, Ruth Zimmerman Cobb, Bloomington; sisters Carmen (Richard) Gilman, Fredonia, NY, and Mary Jane (Pen Pendleton) Hoveln, Gifford, Ill., as well as nieces and nephews. Joy also leaves behind friends and neighbors from Cisco and Monticello, including Tatman Village. Other special friends include Tony and Kellie Gualazzi, Lori and Steve Harper and family, and Ruth and Fred Finn. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Brian Russel Zimmerman and Robert Alan Zimmerman, and other family members.

 

Joy graduated from Urbana High School and worked at Robeson’s Department Store. After she married, she became well known for her talents as a seamstress. For more than 60 years, she made or tailored all types of clothing, including wedding gowns, cheerleading and marching band uniforms, costumes for school plays, plus curtains and home décor items. For more than 10 years, she made doll clothes and accessories for a program serving girls in foster care in the Twin Falls, Idaho area in partnership with her niece by marriage, Nancy Zimmerman, and her Monticello neighbor, Patti Evans. Joy also drove for Miller Bus Service for 10 years and worked with Bob when he was a World Book Encyclopedia representative. She served as a 4-H leader for the Cisco Busy Beavers and was active with the Craig-Reed American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1181.

 

Calvert Funeral Home, Deland, Ill. is handling arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 1PM, Thursday, October 6, 2022_at the Monticello Township Cemetery in Monticello, Ill.  Rev. Kathy Sweet of Monticello United Methodist Church will officiate.

 

Memorials may be made to the food bank at Monticello United Methodist Church, Monticello, Ill., the Carle Foundation Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute, Urbana, Ill., or Tatman Village, Monticello, Ill. The family is grateful for the outstanding care Joy received at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, and from the staff at Farmer City Rehab & Health Care and the Transitions Hospice team.
