McLean -- Dorothy E. Israel, 97, of rural McLean, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at 4:33 a.m. at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Israel will be on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Mr. Tyler Escoubas will officiate. Her final resting place will be at Oak View Cemetery in Armington.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born on November 18, 1925, to William and Goldie Mason Burton. She was united in marriage to Billie M. Israel on September 16, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2010.

Surviving are her daughter: Joy (Peter) DeVries of Delmar, NY, two sons: Bill Israel of McLean and Todd (Tammy) Israel of Armington; four grandchildren: Jacob (Heather) Israel of Atlanta, Tanner Israel of Champaign, Nick (Alison) DeVries of Saratoga, NY, and Mary DeVries of Delmar, NY; and one great-grandchild: Bodie DeVries.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Marjorie Blaida and Wilma Lindenfelser.

Dorothy was raised on a farm, attending rural Hartford School, then Hittle Township High School. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art. She was a teacher in the area, starting as a kindergarten teacher in the Armington Grade School, going on to McLean Grade School teaching 5th grade, to McLean-Waynesville-Armington High School and other schools in the district teaching art, and becoming the first art teacher at the Olympia High School.

Dorothy enjoyed all types of art, her specialty being watercolors. She loved to travel, in later years spending time with her daughter on Cape Cod or attending Yankees games. She was proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments and let all her friends know. She loved her yard with many flowers and trees, watching the birds out the windows, and family get-togethers, and hearing what everyone was doing.

Teresa was born April 18, 1963 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Patsy (Clary) Barclay. She married Curt Short August 16, 1989 in Lane, IL.

Robert was born November 25, 1929 in Decatur, IL the son of Wendell and Florence (Evey) Malone. He married Rosemary Randall September 26, 1950 in Forsyth, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Malone, Forsyth, IL; children, Deborah Beal, Decatur, IL, Robin Richey, Eureka, IL, Jill Kuykendall, Decatur, IL; and Joy (Rusty) Boostrom, Monmouth, IL; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Imogene Bingamon, and two infant great-granddaughters.

Robert farmed all of his life and raised Angus cattle. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Bill was born March 2, 1934 in Weldon, IL the son of William D. and Mildred (Peterson) Conn, Sr. He married Mary Jane Abbott on August 29, 1953 in Peoria, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Conn, Clinton, IL; children: Billy Conn, Rifle, CO; Chris Conn, Clinton, IL; Carole (Mark) Abbinanti, Chicago, IL; and Mitch (Jenny) Conn, Plainfield, IL; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Audrey Beck, Cottonwood, AZ and Marlene Seguire, Clinton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Bill was a self-employed building contractor for over 40 years. He was a founding member of the Midwest Coin and Antique Club in Clinton, IL as well as a member of the Exchange Club. For 30 years, Bill coached and was a board member of Khoury league in Clinton. He was also a member of the Kenney United Methodist Church. Bill was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan and will be remembered as a collector of everything.

Kevin A. Vinson, 66, of Decatur, IL passed away at 5:50 AM Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Kevin was born October 3, 1956 in Clinton, IL the son of Franklin George and Donna Jean (Tucker) Vinson.

Kevin was a Sergeant in the 82^nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army and had received the Army Commendation Medal. Kevin worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation for 30 years. He was a member of the Georgia Department of Transportation Engineers Association and held several chapter positions including president of the association in 2003-2004 as well as past secretary and treasurer. Kevin was a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his mother Donna Jean Vinson, Decatur, IL; siblings, Debbie (Dick Schmid) Thayer, Decatur, IL and Marty (Gina McFeeters) Vinson, Lane, IL; niece, Alyssa (Ryan) Polen and great-nephews, Oliver and Elliot Polen, Broomfield, CO; and niece, Crystal (James) Adair and family, Clinton, IL. As well as the friends he considered his brothers Paul Kaspereen, Terry Rutledge, and Kevin’s beloved dog, Rocky.

Judy was born March 16, 1940, in Clinton, IL the daughter of Orin Ivan and Beulah Mae (Bird) Case. She married Stephen A. Reneau August 22, 1965; he passed February 23, 1980. Judy later married Thomas N. Kirkham on July 23, 1983; he passed June 2, 1993.

Survivors include her children Melanie (James) Reneau-Tapley, Maryville, TN; and Dave (Hope) Reneau, Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren Keira Reneau, Kylie Reneau, Jake Evans, and Shane Evans; and one sister Arlene Hoffman, Clinton, IL.

Judith was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, and eight sisters.

Judy was a graduate of Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, Peoria, IL. She loved to read and travel. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. Judy will be missed by all who knew her.

Carol L. Sampson

Waynesville -- Carol Lou Sampson, 84, of Waynesville, passed away January 16, 2023, at Carle-BroMenn Hospital, surrounded by family members and holding the hand of her life-long love and husband.

Carol was born February 20, 1938, in Waynesville, the daughter of Roger and Wilma Nichols Sampson. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Sampson, on April 28, 1959.

Her memory lives on through her two sons, Flint (Jodi) Sampson and Vince (Bambi) Sampson, and her grandchildren: Sydney (Sampson) Bruehl, Jean-luc Sampson, Tasha (Toby) Dunn, and Taylor (Travis) Cunningham, five great-grandchildren, and Carol’s sister, Karen Teveort.

After graduating high school, Carol attended Illinois State University where she studied education and began her passion for athletics by becoming a gymnast for the Gamma Phi Circus. She would continue her involvement in sports and exercise throughout her life, first as a swim instructor for the YMCA, and also an avid tennis player and bicyclist, participating in both into her 70s. Carol often rode her bike over a thousand miles a summer in those later years.

She began her working career at the Revere Company in Clinton, moving on to General Electric, and retiring as a teaching assistant for Olympia High School.

Carol was always busy and involved in her community, and some of these efforts in the past included: President of the Waynesville PTA, leader of the local YMCA church group, and Village Treasurer.

With her family, she enjoyed traveling, and often would plan lengthy excursions around the United States in the summer. These adventures also led to camping in Canada and Mexico.

Carol was fascinated with local and family history. Blessed with an impeccable memory, she was a fountain of historical knowledge for anyone seeking answers to questions involving the town or their own family members.

She loved a party, and coming from a large close-knit extended family, there were continual gatherings of the group throughout the year. These events and celebrations ranged from bonfires on the family’s forest acreage to open mic nights filled with comedians, magicians, and musicians. She always looked forward to the family gathering on Memorial Day where she hosted a day-long remembrance of the past with a large family cookout featuring games and a volleyball tournament.

She lived a wonderful full life, always surrounded by the people she loved and those who loved her. When asked in her last days the secret of a long happy life, she replied – laughter. There can be no greater tribute to a person than to immortalize them through stories of their life and while doing so, with a smile on your face and yes, the occasional good laugh. She will be missed.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles (Bud) Sampson and Duane Sampson, and one sister Kay Schmid.

Funeral Services for Carol will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Waynesville United Methodist Church. Rev. Tami Werschey-Kessinger will officiate. No visitation is scheduled. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Waynesville.

Memorials may be made to Waynesville United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Donald Edward Tuttle

Donald Edward Tuttle, 88, of Clinton, passed away at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington on Friday, January 13, 2023.

Don was born on May 9, 1934, in Edgar County, Illinois, to parents William Edward and Margaret Louise Poorman Tuttle.

He married his sweetheart, Marlene (Burnett) Tuttle, on June 17, 1954. He was a proud Navy veteran, who served during the Korean War. He loved being onery, working in his yard, watching basketball, and serving the Lord.

He is survived by his three children, Tomey (Barbara) Tuttle, of Port St. Lucie, FL, Steve (Tina) Tuttle, of Clinton, and Penny (Danny) Cox, of Farmer City; his sister Mary Meyers, of Sebring, FL; his 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Roy Lee and Richard Loren Tuttle; and his wife of 65 years, Marlene.

Visitation will be held at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home in Farmer City on Saturday, January 21 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. His funeral service will immediately follow at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Bryan Phillips, of Farmer City, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery, Farmer City, with military rites accorded. Memorials may be made to the Victory Christian Center, Farmer City.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

David had been a Courier for the Clinton School District. He was a past member of the Clinton Eagle’s Lodge and a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association as well as a founding member of the DeWitt Co. Motorcycle Club. David enjoyed motorcycle riding and camping and watching the Chicago Bears and the Illini. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

James (Jim) Jay Larry

James (Jim) Jay Larry, 84, died peacefully Jan. 8 at his lifelong home in rural Farmer City.

Jim was born Feb. 28, 1938, the son of Katherine (Ryan) and Jay Larry of rural Farmer City, Ill. He graduated from Clinton (Ill.) High School, where he was a football and baseball athlete. He worked all of his life on the family grain and livestock farm and was a cherished uncle and practical joker known by his wide circle of friends and neighbors as “Possum.”

Jim was a hunter and horseman in his earlier years and was always happy to be surrounded by animals of all types, particularly his faithful dogs. In recent years when he was more homebound, his friends were also at his side, providing him with help, companionship and a weekly dinner.

Survivors include a sister, Nelda DuPree of Clinton; nieces Bobbye DePaul Scanlan, Phoenix, Ariz., Leslie DuPree, Davenport, Iowa; and Janice Larry, Pekin, Ill.; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Harriett Larry of Rock Island, Ill., two brothers, Donald Larry of Pekin, and Jack Larry of Farmer City; and a nephew, Jack DuPree of Clinton.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, followed by a Memorial Mass at St. John’s Catholic Church, Clinton, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wapella. All are invited to join for lunch after services at the Elks Lodge, Clinton.

Phyllis was born May 10, 1925 in Beloit, WI. She was the daughter of Stennett and Adelaide (Tuttle) Hulburt. She married Karl Kimble Ives May 4, 1946 in Freeport, IL. He passed away March 5, 2017.

Phyllis is survived by one daughter, Karla Jean Ives, Sullivan, IL; one grandson, Larry E. (Jessica) Stewart III, Blain, PA; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, and special nieces and nephew.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Steven Kimble Ives, brother, Jim Hulburt, and one nephew.

Phyllis was a member of the Clinton Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. P.E.O. Chapter B for over 60 years. She was a past member of the Clinton Country Club and Elks. She enjoyed knitting, painting and animals. Phyllis and her husband travelled to many countries and met wonderful friends

Atlanta – Robert “Butch” L. Logan, 76, of Lincoln, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, with his wife, Linda, by his side.

Robert Lewis Logan was born November 22,1946, in Chillicothe, the son of Walter “Kayo” L. and Margaret “Maggie” C. Dempsey Logan. He was united in marriage to Linda K. Patterson on July 4, 2001. She survives.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; children: Greg Logan, Eric Logan, Kevin (Karri) Eimer, and A.C. (Tay) Hutchcraft; two sisters: Judy Haseley and Jo (Don) Bode; seven grandchildren: Cole Logan, Kaleb (Turkessa) Eimer, Aleigha Hutchcraft, Cameron Hutchcraft, Braxton Hutchcraft, Emmersyn Hutchcraft, and Nathaniel Hutchcraft; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Kenneth “Kenn” D. Logan; one brother-in-law: Lynn Haseley; mother-in-law, Ramona “Babe” Veff; father-in-law, Glenn Veff; and one niece: Jennifer Bode.

Robert was a graduate of Lincoln Community High School. He retired from Logan Correctional Facility where he worked as a Correctional Officer. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and shooting pool. He belonged to the American Poolplayers Association (APA). Butch loved being on the beach and spending time in Florida with his wife. He belonged to Moose Lodge #1454 in Bonita Springs.

Charles was born August 11, 1931 in Mound City, IL the son of Charles G. and Gladys (Felker) Wilkerson.

Survivors include his children: Carol (Dave) Brumfield, Norfolk, VA; Matthew (Darla) Wilkerson, Decatur, IL; and Mark Wilkerson, Silverdale, WA; sister, Clara (Ron) Waite, Decatur, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Don Wilkerson, Gene Wilkerson, and Jim Wilkerson, sister Mary Massey, one infant sister, Irene Wilkerson, and daughter-in-law, Violet Wilkerson.

Charles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Doris “Rie” Burkett, 70 of Clinton, IL passed away 7:38 PM December 31, 2022 at Farmer City Rehab, Farmer City, IL.

Services will be 11 AM, Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at the Clinton Assembly of God Church with Pastor Nick Blacklidge officiating. Burial will follow at 2 PM at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Monday, January 9, 2023 at the church. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Rie was born September 13, 1952 in Clinton, IL the daughter of James D. and Doris Jean (Evans) McKee. She married W.C. Burkett September 25, 1971 in Keokuk, IA. He passed away December 24, 2016.

Survivors include her children, Wendy (Gordon) Woods, Clinton, IL; Lisa Burkett, Clinton, IL; Jason Burkett, Clinton, IL; Bobbi (Sam) Perryman, Clinton, IL; six grandchildren; siblings Beverly (George) Mullins, Decatur, IL; David M. (Charlotte) McKee, Sullivan, IL; and Thomas A. McKee, Montreal, MO; and sister-in-law, Sherrie McKee, Farmer City, IL

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bob McKee.

Rie was a member of the Clinton Assembly of God Church where she was active in the children’s ministries. She was the YMCA Day Camp Director from 1977 thru 1982. Rie was a caregiver to many people through the years. She loved to travel and work on various puzzles.

Theodore I. “Ted” Reed, 80 of Clinton, IL passed away 5:41 PM December 30, 2022 at the Warner Hospital & Health Services, Clinton, IL.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2023 at First Church of the Nazarene, Clinton, IL with Rev. Michael Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be held 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Friday at church. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with arrangements.

Ted was born July 28, 1942 in Foosland, IL the son of Joseph Harrison and Martha Emma (Mott) Reed. He married Lavieta Mae Black August 2, 1985 in Clinton, IL. She passed away December 23, 2002.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Sue Reed, Clinton, IL; stepchildren Charles L. Brawner, Decatur, IL, Phillip E. Brawner, Mims, FL, Joyce L. Umfleet, Marana, AZ, Pamela S. Brawner, Decatur, IL; siblings, Robert Reed, Leesburg, FL, Elizabeth (Laverne) Downen, Leesburg, FL, Linda Short, Clinton, IL and Donald Reed, Goldsboro, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Ted Jr., one daughter, Elizabeth, twin sister to Linda Sue, one stepdaughter Karla J. Palmer, and siblings Charles, James, Edward, and Lois.

Ted was the assistant manager of Freedom Gas Station in Clinton, IL. He loved to fish and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Kenneth R. Thrasher 80 of Clinton, Illinois passed away 10 A.M. January 2, 2023 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Services will be 3 PM, Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Jim Kilson officiating. Burial will follow at Lisenby Cemetery, Lane, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 1 – 3 PM, Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Kenneth was born March 19, 1942 in Weldon, IL the son of Herman Donald and Thelma Louise (Brennan) Thrasher, Sr. He married Joyce Florey May 25, 1984 in Weldon, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Thrasher, Clinton, IL; children: Adrain (Susan) Thrasher, Cedar Hill, MO; Bryan (Teri) Thrasher, Mansfield, IL; Dan Thrasher, Hickory Corners, MI; Cynthia (Kevin) Laver, Clinton, IL; Mark Pettyjohn, Rupert, ID; Kim (Scott) Nimmo; Clinton, IL; Christi (John) Irvin, Clinton, IL; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Sue Waterhouse, Clinton, IL; Denny Thrasher, Kenney, IL; and Carroll Lee Thrasher, Weldon, IL; many loving nieces and nephews also survive.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, son, Matthew Wayne Pettyjohn, and granddaughter, Jamie LaGrand.

Ken was a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam and was a retired Millwright. He enjoyed working on classic cars. Ken was loved by everyone, but he especially loved his family and spending time with them.

Joan was born February 25, 1933 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Virgil K. and Oleta F. (Myers) Hoge. She married Robert “Bob” Sessions July 24, 1951 in Birkbeck, IL. He passed away October 22, 2022.

Survivors include her children: Dwayne (Mindy Kay) Sessions, Clinton, Il.; Kurt W. (Renee) Sessions, Crossville, TN.; and Martina L. (Tim) McShane, Bloomington, IL; 7grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one grandson, Kyle McShane

Joan was a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL. Joan and her husband, Bob owned and operated Sessions Electric in Clinton, Il. since 1966. She and Bob enjoyed camping, but most of all, Joan loved spending time with her family.
