Raymond F. Hanslow, 88, Lincoln, died at 7:40 p.m. Friday (Nov. 30, 2012) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Service: Private family service will be at a later date, with Tim Searby officiating.

Burial: Mount Pulaski Cemetery, with full military rites accorded.

Maxine K. Schaefer of Clinton

Maxine K. Schaefer, 96, Clinton, formerly of Springfield, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday (Nov. 30, 2012) at Manor Court, Clinton.

Her graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Laenna Cemetery, Logan County, with David Taylor officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Fricke Calvert Schrader Funeral Home, Mount Pulaski.

Maxine was born April 8, 1916, daughter of Vallas E. and Laura L. Morse Kuntzi in Chestnut. She was a secretary for Marine Bank in Springfield for almost 50 years, was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Springfield and a granddaughter of Daughters of Union Veterans. She married Otto E. “Bud” Schaefer on April 5, 1946, in Springfield. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1978.

She is survived by her aunt, Evelyn Kuntzi; and lots of cousins including her first cousins, Barbara Joan Morse, Dallas Michael Morse, Betty Taylor Gaultney, William (Diane) Morse, Robert Morse, Edward Darnell Altman, Frank Altman, Eileen Altman Simons, Connie Kuntzi Loveless, Robert Bruce and Ronda Morse.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Michelle Thomason of LeRoy

Michelle Thomason, 44, of LeRoy died at 5 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 29, 2012) at Franklin Hospital, Benton.

A memorial service will be at 3 p. m. Tuesday at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, with Brother Brett Beasley officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A second visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Cross Pointe Church of God, Bloomington, with a memorial service to follow at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Thomason was born Aug. 1, 1968, in Hopkinsville, Ky., the daughter of William Robert Gower and Kathleen Meehan Gower. She married Brian Thomason on Sept. 2, 1989. He survives.

Michelle was an active member of Cross Pointe Church of God in Bloomington, where she sang in the praise band, taught Sunday school and volunteered for various other church activities. She enjoyed reading, loved her dog, Polar, and was eagerly awaiting the birth of her first grandchild.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Brian Thomason, LeRoy; two daughters, Sarah Thomason and fiance, Nelson Tipsword, Sullivan; and Krysta Thomason and Stephen Lake, LeRoy; her mother, Kathleen Gower, Benton; a sister, Christine Leathers, Benton; a brother, Phillip Gower, Benton; a niece and nephew, McKenna and Evan Leathers, both of Benton; a brother-in-law, Allen Thomason, Christopher; and father-in-law, Gary Thomason, LeRoy.

Mrs. Thomason was preceded in death by her father, William Gower, and mother-in-law, Nancy Thomason.

Wilma M. Powers of Clinton

Wilma M. Powers, 92, Clinton, passed away at 6 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 28, 2012) at Manor Court, Clinton.

Her funeral Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wapella, with Father Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the rosary recited at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Easter Seals – Team Alex in memory of Wilma Powers.

Wilma was born July 16, 1920, in Bluffs, the daughter of Arch and Opal McCannon Hale. She married John Paul Powers on Aug. 28, 1940, in Wapella. He passed away on June 15, 1977.

Survivors include her children, Linda Powers, Normal; James F. (Karen) Powers, Wapella; and Paul “Edd” Powers, Clinton; brother, Ben (Mary) Hale, Clinton; and sister, Darlene Griffith, Normal; six grandchildren, Shelby Svendsen, Paul “Andy” (Cyndi) Powers, Kristi (Justin) Goble, Kelli (Jeff) Powers, Lucas (Kara) Powers and Alex Powers; and six great-grandchildren, Sean Svendsen, Chloe Goble, Cooper Goble, Piper Goble, Presley Goble and Charlie Powers. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Rosemary Girard, Clinton; brother-in-law, Francis Riddle, Pensacola, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother and one grandson.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wapella. She grew up and was reared on a farm.

Wilma had worked at the Dixie Truck Stop in McLean. She loved to travel and most importantly, she loved her family.

William R. Manuel of Mansfield

William R. Manuel, 81, Mansfield, passed away at 9 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2012) at Champaign Urbana Regional Rehab Center, Savoy.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mansfield United Methodist Church, Mansfield, with the Rev. Sharon Monroe officiating. Burial will be at Mansfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to Mansfield United Methodist Church or Northern Piatt County Fire Protection District. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Mansfield, is in charge of arrangements.

William was born Sept. 13, 1931, in rural Mansfield, a son of Raleigh E. and Katherine J. Pittenger Manuel. He married Velma J. Gawthorp on Nov. 19, 1950, at Mansfield United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Velma J. Manuel, Mansfield; children, William M. Manuel, Mindy (John) Sherrick and Marlin (Christine) Manuel; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Manuel, all of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Marc E. Manuel.

William had worked at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of the Mansfield United Methodist Church, member of the Mansfield Lions Club, former volunteer fireman for the Mansfield Fire Department and had served on the Mansfield School Board and Mansfield Village Board.

Helen M. Wright of Monticello

Helen M. Wright, 94, of Monticello, formerly of Cerro Gordo and Lake City, passed away at 2:00 p.m., on November 27, 2012 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Church of the Brethren 102 E. Durfee St. Cerro Gordo with Rev. Kurtis Bueltmann officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hewitt Cemetery, Lovington. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Helen was born May 24, 1918 in LaPlace, IL the daughter of Ora V. and Jennie (Adkins) Alexander. She married Shelby Elbert Wright on August 26, 1936 in Boody, IL. He passed away April 28, 1997.

Surviving are her sons; Richard (Sherry) Wright of Monticello and Oren (Shirley) Wright of Oakley, daughter; Carolyn (David) Cox of Topeka, KS, 8 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Elbert), daughter (Barbara), 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Helen retired as an LPN for St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. Mrs. Wright was born on the Adkins/Alexander farm 1 ½ miles west of LaPlace, IL. She lived on the home place for 58 years. Mrs. Wright has lived in Piatt County all of her life except for 4 years. Helen was a great cook specializing in making noodles and pies. Helen and Elbert co-owned the Wil-O-Lou restaurant in Argenta. She loved to read, cross stitch, and quilt. Helen was an excellent quilter, making many quilts for all of her children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Church of the Brethren or the Piatt County Nursing Home.

Charles L. Tomlinson of Beason

Charles L. Tomlinson, 71, Beason, died at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 27, 2012) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Clarence Mankin officiating.

Burial: Harmony Cemetery, Beason.

Mabel Eileen Clarkson of Argenta

Mabel Eileen Clarkson, 97, of Argenta died 3:34 a.m. Monday (Nov. 26, 2012) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Mabel was born June 21, 1915, in Argenta, the daughter of Conrad and Emma Jane Heinz Hiser. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of Argenta United Methodist Church. She married George Parks on Dec. 2, 1936. He preceded her in death in November 1944. She later married Elmer “Spike” Clarkson on Oct. 14, 1950, in Argenta. He preceded her death on Sept. 15, 1995.

Surviving are her daughter, Lois (Gaylon “Whitey”) Harrell of Latham; son, Stan (Lyn) Clarkson of Evansville, Ind.; stepdaughter, Jeanette (Don) Olson of Pollock Pines, Calif.; grandchildren, Randy Harrell, Natalie Foster, Rodney Harrell, Jenny Wood, Kelly Reed; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three brothers and two sisters.

Thomas Harvey Banks of Champaign

 

Mr. Thomas Harvey Banks of Champaign, 73, passed away Monday (Nov. 26, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born May 10, 1939, in Clinton.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Father Robert Rayson will officiate. Burial will be private.

Norma I. Allen of Atlanta

Norma I. Allen, 86, of Atlanta, died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at 12:35 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.

Nathan John Morrow, 31, of Carbondale, formerly of Mount Pulaski, died at 3:56 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 15, 2012) at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Robert Gray and the Rev. Christopher Decker officiating. There will also be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Nov. 25, 2012, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Carbondale.

Burial: Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

William A. Bill Drennan of Monticello

William A. “Bill” Drennan, 90, Monticello, formerly of Neoga, passed away at 1:19 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 15, 2012) in the Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.

As per Mr. Drennan’s wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 214 S. Charter St., Monticello. Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Neoga, the son of Elda A. and A. Leona Lockhart Drennan. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe for three years.

Bill married Rowena Elson on Nov. 14, 1948, in Neoga. He was a deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church, past member and president of the Lions Club 1973, both of Monticello. He was also a member of the Alumni Association of Millikin University and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, both of Decatur.

Bill was employed by General Telephone Co. for 17 years and he was an insurance agent for New York Life Insurance Co., retiring after 17 years of service.

 Mr. Drennan leaves his wife, Rowena Drennan, Monticello; two daughters, Marsha Hinthorn and husband Robert, Normal; and Erin Cody and husband Terry, Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Drennan was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clyde E. Drennan; and two sisters, Doris Jean Cameron and R. Irene Drennan.

Mary A. Miner of Monticello

Mary A. Miner, 78, of Monticello, passed away at 2:24 p.m., on November 15, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Ingram officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.

Marjorie Carol Monaghan of Farmer City

Marjorie Carol Monaghan, 86, Farmer City, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 15, 2012) at her residence.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with the Rev. Dave Ashby officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Farmer City.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Marjorie was born  Sept. 29, 1926, in Blue Ridge Township, Piatt County, a daughter of Donald and Christa Hughes Wheeler.

She married James Edward Monaghan on Jan. 21, 1961, in Galesville. He passed away Jan. 7, 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Martha Mae “Myrt” Hudson, Farmer City, and Christia (Gary) Risler, Farmer City; two grandchildren, G.D. (Erin) Risler, Mount Sterling, and James Risler, Farmer City; and two sisters, Gerry (Tom) Whitt, Franklin, Ohio, and Sandra Wheeler, Mansfield, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Marjorie was a cook for the Farmer City school district from 1967 to 1994.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Farmer City, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years; a  member of Farmer City American Legion Unit 55 auxiliary and member of the 8/40 Voiture.

Dorothy M. Lohmeyer of Farmer City

Dorothy M. Lohmeyer, 95, Farmer City, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2012) at Farmer City Rehabilitation and Health Care, Farmer City.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Farmer City.

Dorothy was born Dec. 12, 1916, at Arrowsmith, a daughter of Thomas Riley and Almira Rebecca Dotson Lush.

She married Emory Lohmeyer on May 28, 1935, in Bloomington. He passed away Feb. 10, 1995.

She is survived by her children, Norma Louise Jouett, Lincoln, and Robert Lynn (Ruthie) Lohmeyer, Casa Grande, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Lorie (Don) Conner, Staunton, Va.; Tony (Trish) Hedrick, Luray, Va.; Carl (Jamie) Lohmeyer, Las Vegas, Nev.; Ray (Jan) Jouett, Houston, Texas; and Claudette (David) Ellstrand, Arlington Heights; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Robins, Peoria; and sister-in-law, Winifred Lush, Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Carl Jouett and Rebecca Lohmeyer;  three brothers, Delmer Lush, Charles Lush and Loren Lush; two sisters, Alta Messamore and Helen Lush; and son-in-law, Harold Jouett.

Mrs. Lohmeyer was a member of the United Methodist Church, Farmer City.

Virginia L. Rogers of Monticello

Virginia L. Rogers, 82, of Monticello, passed away at 12:05 a.m., on November 14, 2012 at the Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home with Bob Lane officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.

Virginia was born August 4, 1930, in Monticello the daughter of Wade and Emma (Flora) Drawhon. She married A. Loren Rogers on August 21, 1948 in Morgansfield, KY. He passed away March 15, 2001.

Surviving are her children; Tod (Marsha) Rogers, Randy Rogers, and Shelley Rogers all of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 1 son (Tim Rogers).

Virginia was lifelong resident of Monticello and more than just a house wife, she was a farm wife. Virginia also volunteered at the Piatt County Nursing Home, was a charter member of the Piatt County Trailblazers, and was a Piatt County 4-H leader. Virginia enjoyed her yard work, gardening, and reading; however she loved her dogs and was especially proud of and loved her family.

Donna Jean Brumfield, 65, of Lincoln, passed away November 14, 2012 at Advocate Bromenn Hospital in Normal, IL.

Visitation will be Monday, November 19, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. Services will be Monday evening at 7 PM also at the funeral home. Cremation rites will then be accorded. Burial will be Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lincoln.

Dorothy Luker of Clinton

Dorothy Luker, 83, Danville, formerly of Clinton, passed away at 5:34 p.m. Nov. 8, 2012, at her home.

There will be no service or visitation. Robison Chapel, Catlin, is handling arrangements.

Dorothy was born May 16, 1929, in Clinton, daughter of Emmett and Helen Didlake Kent.

Surviving are one brother, Bill Kent, Clinton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one sister; two brothers; and best friend, Thomas H. Viskniskki.

Dorothy retired in 1991 from the sState comptroller’s office in Springfield and moved to Danville in 1992.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Clinton and former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Sisterhood in Clinton.

Ruth M. Smith of Maroa

Ruth M. Smith, 92, of Morton, formerly of Maroa, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Cremation will be accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Morton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gary Motta officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Maroa Cemetery at a later date.
