Brian D. Workman, 55 of Clinton, IL passed away 9:50 AM February 25, 2023 at his home in Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be held 10 AM Friday, March 3, 2023 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Rev. Michael Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday night at the funeral home. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Brian was born December 18, 1967 in Decatur, IL the son of Claude and Patsy Joan (Long) Workman. He married Amy M. Atteberry May 14, 2001.

 

Survivors include his children Claudia L. Workman, Savoy, IL and Cordell J. Workman, Clinton, IL; two siblings Lynette (Larry) Cutler, Moweaqua, IL, and Randy (fiancé Autumn Kenney) Workman, Annandale, VA.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one nephew, and one brother.

 

Brian worked for the Clinton Sanitary District for 25 years, was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Clinton, IL, and enjoyed playing drums.

Sherman Wesley Taulbee, Sr

Sherman Wesley Taulbee, Sr., 63, of Bloomington, IL, formerly of Kenney, IL, passed away February 22, 2023 at 2:54 PM at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL.

 

No services are planned at this time.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL assisted the family with cremation rites.

Sherman was born March 27, 1959 in Champaign, IL the son of Elmer Taulbee, Sr. and Lora (Rudd) Taulbee. He married Corine Thompson on March 17, 1979.

 

Survivors include his wife Corine Taulbee, Bloomington, IL; children: Travis (Drew) Taulbee, Bloomington, IL; Jeneva (Stan) Jackiewicz, Clinton, IL; and Sherman Taulbee, Jr., Glendive, MT; 10 grandchildren: and brother, Elmer Taulbee, Jr., Myrtle Beach, SC.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathy Dalton and Wanda Hamilton; and daughter-in-law, Misty Taulbee.

 

Sherman worked for the City of Pontiac, IL and later at Big Daddy tire in Russell Springs, KY.  He loved camping, working on cars, and racing, especially watching his favorite NASCAR driver and cousin, Ricky Rudd. Sherman cherished each and every one of his grandchildren and loved all of his nieces and nephews.

Andrew Brian Boyer, 55 of Peoria, IL, formerly of DeWitt, IL, passed away 1:26 PM February 20, 2023 at Sharon Health Care Willows, Peoria, IL.

Andrew was born March 23, 1967 in Macon County, IL the son of Duane Richard and Billie Jo (Smith) Boyer.

David C. "Munchie" Peavler, Sr.

David C. “Munchie” Peavler, Sr., 57, of Lane, IL passed away at 12:06 AM February 20, 2023 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal IL.

David was born November 6, 1965 in Bloomington, IL the son of Clarence and Henrietta  (Price) Peavler and raised by his grandparents, Charlie and Virginia Wickenhauser. He married Debra K. Rentfro on February 22, 1991 in Clinton, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife Debra K. Peavler, Clinton, IL; mother, Henrietta Sikes, Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Amanda Rentfro- Scott, Clinton, IL; son, David C. Peavler, Jr., Clinton, IL; and daughter, Amber (T. J.) Winebrenner, Maroa, IL; seven grandchildren: Aryn, Trevor, Carleigh, Lucas, Alexis, Dominic, and Wyatt; five sisters also survive: Sandy (Rudy), Pam (James), Lisa, Catherine (Terry), and Christina (Brandt).

 

He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

 

David was a Certified Master Technician working at Fourwinds RV for 23 years. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and working on various projects. David could fix anything. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan; but most importantly he was an amazing husband, father, “papa”, and friend.

Phillip N. Davis

Phillip N. Davis, 58, of Farmer City passed away unexpectedly the evening of February 9, 2023, at home. He had been suffering from health issues within the past few years, when his body gave up the fight. He was born on July 17, 1964, in Ashtabula, OH, the son of Lowell B. and Lorna M. (Wright) Davis.   

 

Phillip was a semi-trailer mechanic, by trade. But every so often, he tinkered with carpentry and automobile mechanics. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed and loved his cat and two dogs.

  

He had a great sense of humor and knew how to make us laugh. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.  

 

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Nicolle and Steffani Davis; and siblings, Lowell Lee (Donna) Davis, Debbie Lynn Hudson and Russell G. (Sheri Rea) Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

 

Phillip will be taken home to Ohio and buried close to his parents at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville OH.

Kenneth "Kenny" H. Manley

Kenneth “Kenny” H. Manley, 78, of Clinton, IL passed away 1:52 PM February 10, 2023 at McAllen Medical Center, McAllen, TX.

 

Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Rev. Paul Stroup officiating. Burial will follow at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with military honors. Visitation will be 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the funeral home. The family requests guests wear casual attire.

 

Kenny was the son of Lawrence E. and Joyce (Hoover) Manley. He was born October 20, 1944 in Vandalia, IL. He married Joann (Smith) Matthews on March 4, 1972 in Clinton, IL.

 

Kenny was a graduate of St. Elmo, IL High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from July 21, 1965 to July 14, 1967. While in the service, he was stationed in Vietnam with the 109th Quartermaster Co. supporting the 101st Airborne Division at Cam Ranh Bay from 1966-1967, arriving to Vietnam by ship.

 

He worked for Harris McBurney Company, then took a position with GTE (Verizon) in 1970 at which time he moved to Clinton, retiring in 1996. He then worked through IBEW Local #146 in telecommunications, retiring in 2004.

 

He was a life member of IBEW Local #146, AMVETS, Golden Eagles, Sportsman Club, American Legion, and the former Elks Club.

 

He is survived by his wife, Joann; brother Roy Manley, Ramsey, IL; nephews Ron Manley, Bryan Manley, David Manley, Doug Peavler, Jeff Rozanski, and Blake Rasor; nieces Dawn Peavler, Lori Willoughby, Celeste Schram, Lisa Mowry, Susie Smith, Jennifer Braswell. Also several great-nieces & nephews and several great-great nieces & nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James Edward, Wayne, and Charles Dale Manley; great nephew, Matthew Manley; and great niece, Heather Manning.

Marilyn Strain

Marilyn Strain, 82, of Decatur, Illinois formerly of Clinton, Illinois passed away at 6:08 PM, February 13, 2023 at her family residence, Decatur, Il.

Marilyn was born January 6, 1941 in Nokomis, IL the daughter of Wayne and Vivian (Eddington) Sievers. She married Galen M. Strain December 1, 1962 in Nokomis, IL. He passed away July 5, 2012.

 

Survivors include her son, David (Karen Belangee) Strain, Decatur, IL; grandson, Justin (Megan) Strain, Davenport, IA; and two great-granddaughters, Caroline and Elizabeth Strain; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Strain, Florida.

 

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin Strain; two brothers and two sisters.

 

Marilyn was a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton, IL.  She was the DeWitt Co. ESDA Coordinator and served as a Precinct Committeeperson.  Marilyn was a die-hard Republican and member of the D.A.R.  She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Salt Creek Patchmakers Quilt Guild.

Sharon was born August 3, 1950 in Herrin, IL the daughter of Robby M. and Juanita I. (Rich) Galyean. She married Robert F. Meier February 10, 1968 in Farmer City, IL.  He passed away July 3, 2020.

 

Survivors include her daughters, Michelle R. Wilson (Darrell West) and Crystal Parrott (Chris); grandchildren: Joshua (Jessica) Meier, D. J. Walters, Jesse Walters, Caleb Wilson, and Noah Wilson (Micah Simmons), all of Maroa, IL; great-grandchildren: Bowen and Chloe Walters, Brantley Robert, and Briggston James; siblings: Duane Galyean, Pana, IL, Kenneth Galyean, Taylorville, IL, and Rosemary Galyean, Maroa, IL.

Carol was born March 14, 1962 in Clinton, IL the daughter of William Greene and Clara Marie (Leevey) Taylor. She married Jeff Kleist October 31, 2013.

 

Survivors include her husband, Jeff Kleist, Clinton, IL; daughter, Katie Marie Powers, Clinton, IL; the daughter of Lynden Kay (Ann) Powers and Carol Ann Kleist; stepdaughters Tonya (Ashton) Mearida, Wapella, IL and Dana (Greg) Rubenacker, Clinton, IL, Heather Kleist, Clinton, IL, and Amber Kleist, West Palm Beach, FL; grandson Oakley William Powers, Clinton, IL; step-grandchildren Mya Bartell, Autumn Bartell, Madison Mearida, Emma Mearida, Jace Rubenacker, Abby Mearida; one step-great-grandson Bohen Winter; best friends Rhonda Foltz, Pam Wade and Ann Powers, who lovingly cared for Carol in her time of need; one brother, Allen Richard (Amy) Taylor, Weldon, IL.

Carol worked for Farouk Systems in Houston, TX as the Regional District Manager of Sales. Oakley was her pride and joy, and enjoyed spending as much time with him as she could.

David Leone Fuller

David Leone Fuller 90 of DeWitt, IL passed away at 5:27 PM February 11, 2023 at Farmer City Rehab. Farmer City, IL.

David was born October 29, 1932 in DeWitt, IL, the son of John B. and Carrie (Coppenbarger) Fuller. He married Ava Stephenson in June of 1956 in Dewitt, IL.  He later married Mary Caroline (Carter) Muller December 19, 1981 in Heyworth, IL. She passed away July 6, 2018.

 

Survivors include his children:  Kemp Fuller, DeWitt,  IL and Dan (Chrystal) Fuller, Panama City Beach, FL; four grandchildren:  Jackson (Amber) Fuller, Chesapeake, VA; Joshua D. Fuller, Chesapeake, VA; Lilli “Marci” Erickson, Panama City Beach, FL; and Grayson Erickson, Panama City Beach, FL; step-daughter, Mary (William) Slaughter, El Paso, IL; and two sisters:  Dorita (Kenneth) Krapf, Manhattan, IL and Dorellyn Fuller, San Antonio, TX.

 

David was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

 

David served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1952 – 1953.  He retired from K & K Tool and Die, Bloomington, IL after 38 years of service.  David was an avid hunter and fisherman who made his own muzzle loaders.

Ronald K. "Doc" Baker

Ronald K. Baker (“Doc”), 92, of Weldon, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8th at 8:15 pm at Liberty Village, Clinton IL, surrounded by his loving family.  Ron and Collette (Dillow) were married November 19th, 1952 in Clinton, IL at First Christian Church and had six children together.  They recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

 

He is survived by his wife Collette, sister Donna Rhodes, their six children: Rhonda (Rex) Parvin, Monticello IL; Richard (Diane) Baker, DeLand IL; Roger Baker, DeLand IL; Gina (Smokey) Field, Oakton VA; John (Verna) Baker, Clinton IL; and Matt (Marti) Baker, Monticello IL; fifteen (15) grandchildren and sixteen (16) great-grandchildren: half-brothers and sisters:  Rick Baker, Eldred, IL; Mitsy Baker, Dunlap, IL; Angie Heiland, Decatur, IL; Ben Baker, Hillsboro, IL; and Betty Reynolds, Champaign, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Etherton; brother, Dorwin Lee Baker;  grandson, Nicholas; and half-brother, Alvin Baker. 

 

Ron was a faithful steward of the land, having been a farmer for 70 years on the Centennial Baker family farm.  He also worked as a brakeman for the Illinois Central Railroad during some lean farming years, and as a carpenter.  He was a devoted follower of Christ and was a 65-year member of DeLand Christian Church where he was a Deacon and Trustee and often found on ladders painting or helping maintain the church and serving in many ways. He was a proud patriot and Veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, serving on the USS Cambria and USS Furse.

 

Services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11 AM at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, IL with Pastor Danny Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow at Nixon Township Cemetery, Weldon, IL with Military Honors.  Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home.  The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to DeLand Christian Church or Weldon Fire and Rescue.

Mikki Burns

Mikki Burns of Clinton died on Feb. 7. She was 74 and would have celebrated 54 years of marriage to her husband, Jim, on Feb. 15. They were introduced by Jim’s cousin Dick and were married in 1969.

 

Mikki loved to watch and root for the Illini. She was her grandkids’ biggest fan at their games and events. She loved to go see her son play music in his various bands, and enjoyed being Stacey’s self-appointed personal assistant reminding her of game changes and school events. Mikki loved to garden and had an amazing green thumb. Her favorite time of year was going shopping with Barbara and the ladies in St. Louis. She wouldn’t even go to the mailbox without her makeup. Mikki resided in Cerro Gordo for many years, but built her dream home in Clinton and made it her canvas for the entire family. 

 

Born July 27, 1948, Mikki graduated from Clinton Community High School in 1966. She graduated from Patricia Stephens College with a degree in Fashion Merchandising, and for more than 32 years was a branch manager of Topflight Grain in Cisco.

 

Mikki is survived by Jim and their children, Chad Burns and his wife Andréa of Decatur, Stacey Benson of Oakley, and their grandchildren Blaine and Audrey Burns and JD and Cooper Benson. 

 

Mikki is also survived by her sisters, Barbara and Harlan Powers of Clinton, and Diana and John Leach of Maroa, nephews Chris Pine, Curtis Pine, and Hunter Williamson and niece, Carrie Thomas. She is also survived by her beloved Aunt Fifi. 

  

Mikki was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law, Tim Benson, and her sister, Sara Williamson. 

 

Mikki wished for a private funeral for family only. A celebration of life will be held at the Clinton Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Orvil "Bruce" Johnston

Orvil “Bruce” Johnston, 72, of Beason, IL, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family after a seven-year battle with cancer.

Bruce was born on October 15, 1950 the son of Orvil Johnston Jr. He married Marie Bristow on November 21, 1972, they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2022.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Marie Bristow Johnston; children, Scott (Jamie) Johnston, Brandi (Rich) Patterson-Marvel, Orvil J. Johnston, and Philip (Mary) Johnston; grandchildren, Kristopher, Nate, Emily, Secily, Will, Zach, Chloe, Savannah, Tate, and Sydnee; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Maddox, Davis, Nora, Lane, Ellie, and Henry; and a sister, Connie (Gordon) Hamblin.

He was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Orvil and Edna Johnston Sr., and Irene Carpenter, all who helped raise him.

Bruce proudly served in the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany. He was a mechanic, avid fisherman, and lifelong farmer. Bruce was a member of Waynesville American Legion.

A memorial service for Bruce will be held at 4:00PM on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Waynesville United Methodist Church in Waynesville. A celebration of Bruce’s life will follow the service from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the Waynesville American Legion where full military rites will be conducted by the Waynesville American Legion Post #1189. Memorials may be made in Bruce’s name to the Waynesville American Legion or Ruby’s Rescue in McLean. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Deborah A. Viner

Lincoln -- Deborah A. Viner, 51, of Lincoln, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield. 

 

A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post #263, 1740 5th Street in Lincoln.

Mr. Larry Crawford will speak at 1:00 p.m.

Deborah A. Viner was born on July 16, 1971, in Joliet,  the daughter of Robert Joseph and Dixie Elaine Denny Viner.  

She is survived by her son Trevor Viner; her father, Robert Viner; and two brothers: Edward (Tara) Viner and Kevin Viner. 

She was preceded in death by her mother: Dixie E. Viner Doty.

Debbie graduated from Lincoln College with an associated degree in Criminal Justice.

She was employed at Cresco Labs in Lincoln and loved her extended work family and working with them.

She loved the many adventures and vacations she and her son Trevor went on together and spending time with family, especially during the holidays.

She especially loved animals, especially her 2 cats Eloise and Jeff.

Ivan was born February 10, 1927 on a farm outside of Stanford, IL the son of Harold Arthur and Verna Lena (Unzicker) Stanwood. He married Donna D. Hickey on October 1, 1949 in Armington, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Donna D. Stanwood, Clinton, IL; children, Ivanna Lynn (Richard) Koritz, Clinton, IL and Timothy Lee (Beth) Stanwood, Des Moines, IA; grandchildren:  Scott, Karle, Kristy Jo, Kelly, Merci, Micah, Amy, Kristy Leigh, Brittany, and Maggie; 17 great-grandchildren;  and siblings:  Jay (Lorraine) Stanwood, Santa Anna, CA; Emily Nafziger, Madison, WI; and Mae (Marc) Wilmoth, Anaheim, CA.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Eric Wayne Stanwood and Christopher Dean Stanwood, and two sisters, Mary and Leila.

 

Ivan served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  He was a member of First Christian Church, Clinton, IL.  Ivan attended school in Minier, IL and three years at Lincoln Bible Institute.   Ivan was employed at Caterpillar Tractor for 30 years before retiring in 1982.

Dolores Lee Ford

Dolores Lee Ford, 92, of Shawnee, KS, formerly of Clinton, IL, passed away 9:19 PM February 1, 2023 at her family residence, Shawnee, KS.

 

Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Scott Marsh officiating. Burial will follow at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be directed to the American Royal Association for the Hunter/Jumper, Kansas City, MO or the American Cancer Society.

 

Dolores was born September 18, 1930 in Peoria, IL the daughter of Carl and Octa (Brown) McIlvenna. She married Pat D. Ford August 22, 1958 in the Ranch House Chapel, Camp Pendleton, CA. He passed away August 1, 2010.

 

Survivors include her children, Kim Traphagan, Shawnee, KS, Scott D. (Kathy) Ford, Pleasanton, KS, Curt L. (Jamie) Ford, La Harpe, KS; four grandchildren Machaela Ford, Scotty Ford, Amanda Traphagan, and Ashley Traphagan.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Mark Alan Ford, and one sister.

 

Dolores loved working with animals and kids. She was the Horse Show Secretary for the American Royal Association for over 30 years. She was an avid Kansas City Royals fan; but most of all Dolores cherished her family and friends and always brought light to the world living life with no regrets.

Donald Owen Short

Donald Owen Short, 94, of Clinton, Illinois departed this life 1:44 PM February 1, 2023 at Manor Court, Clinton, IL.

 

Donald was born June 4, 1928 in Wapella, Illinois the son of Homer and Erma Louise (Cahill) Short. He married Alicia Sharon Hissong November 24, 1963 in Cerro Gordo, Illinois.

 

He is fondly remembered by his wife, Alicia of Clinton, IL; daughters, Dr. Cheryl (David) Short-Mattix of Valparaiso, IN and Sheila (Jerry) Wayne of Wapella, IL, along with grandchildren Victoria and Garrett Wayne. He has one sister, Lois (Sam) Sutter of Heyworth, IL and one brother Paul (Deb) Short of Lincoln, IL. surviving. He has gone to be with his son, Keith Allen; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Art Cooper, and his parents.

 

Don graduated from Wapella High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict where he climbed to the top of Mt. Fugi on a recovery mission. He was a lifelong farmer, tending to the family sesquicentennial farm on top of working for the U.S. Postal Service from where he retired after serving for 32 years as a city carrier. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, gardening, working outside, and following his grandchildren in their sports and activities.

 

Services will be held 10 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Pastor Darrell Howard officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Visitation will be held from 9 – 10 AM, Saturday at the Funeral Home.

 

Memorials may be directed to Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana or Clinton United Methodist Church.
