Gerald Wesley, 64 of Clinton, IL went home to be with our Lord Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital after complications from a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 A.M. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Gillespie, IL with Monsignor Larry Auda officiating. Burial will follow Cahokia Holy Cross Cemetery, Gillespie, IL with military honors at the graveside. Visitation will be 5 -7 P.M. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with a rosary service at 4:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to the scholarship fund for the Clinton Maroon’s baseball and softball programs.

        Gerald is survived by his wife: Susan (Klinkert) Wesley of Clinton, IL and 3 children: Shae (fiancé Aaron Whitener) of Boone, NC, Andrew of Dumas, TX and Adam of South Bend, IN; mother: Kathryn of Alton; sister: Wanda Halliday (John) of Bellevue, NE; brother: Tom (Linda) of Alton and sister: Melanie Strowmatt (David) of Alton as well as 10 nieces and nephews, 13 grandnieces and nephews and many more. He was preceded in death by his father: Gerald Joseph Wesley and sister: Nancy Jo.

        He was born January 7, 1949 in Litchfield, IL. He lived in Gillespie, IL until 1959 when the family moved to Alton, IL. Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Marquette High School and a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He graduated from Gem City Community College in 1973. On September 2, 1979, he married Susan Klinkert, daughter of the late Hal and Lucille Klinkert, at their family home. The remained there for the almost 34 years of marriage, raising their children; allowing them to run, romp and play – just be kids. He loved golf, cooking – specializing in spaghetti and barbeque sauce as well as country style breakfasts – all enjoyed by many over the years, coaching and watching softball and baseball and spending time with his family and loyal dog, Hal.
