Darrell J. Semple of Heyworth

Darrell J. Semple, 82, Heyworth, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday (March 18, 2013) at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth, with the Revs. Richard Gray and Steve Barrow officiating. Burial will be at Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth, with military rites. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Heyworth Library or Alzheimer’s Association.

Darrell was born Sept. 6, 1930, at New Holland, a son of John T. and Lorene K. Langenbahn Semple. He married Katherine L. Colson on Oct. 15, 1949, in Lincoln. She died Dec. 29, 2006.

He is survived by two sons, David (Ann) Semple, Metamora, and Troy (Kelly) Semple, Heyworth; one daughter, Debra Nohl, Heyworth; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Semple, Decatur, and Donald E. (Barbara) Semple, New Holland; and one sister, Doris M. Kelly, Farmer City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Katherine L. Semple.

Darrell had been manager of Alexander Lumber Co., Normal, for 46 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Darrell was a life member of Carl E. Miller American Legion Post 624, Heyworth, and life member of Little Embry Rainey VFW Post 1559, Heyworth.

He enjoyed gardening and fishing trips to Red Lake, Ontario, Canada.
