Nola May Karr of Clinton

Nola May Karr, 89 of Clinton, IL passed away at 5:00 A.M. March 30, 2013 at Hickory Point Christian Living Center, Forsyth, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial service will be 10 A.M. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Peter Pilon officiating. Interment will follow at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella, IL. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Wednesday April 3, 2013 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL. Memorials may be made to the DeWitt Clinton Chapter of D.A.R.

Miss Karr was born on July 9, 1923 on a farm near Wapella, IL the daughter of Frank and Dottie (Muirheid) Karr. She attended Mooreville Grade School and graduated from Wapella High School in 1941. She attended Illinois State University, Normal, IL while employed at State Farm Insurance Company, Bloomington, IL. In 1945 she accepted a civil service appointment with the War Dept. in Washington D.C. She transferred to the Post Office Dept. in 1946 and remained there for 32 years. She lived in Washington D.C. area until moving back to DeWitt County in 2005.

Nola belonged to the DeWitt Clinton Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, General Society of Mayflower Descendants and many genealogical societies. She was the family genealogist publishing family history books on the Baker, Cunningham, Karr and Muirheid families and one of all known ancestors. She also published the family newsletter on a quarterly basis. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She had many hobbies over the years including swimming, beachcombing, bowling, sewing, indoor gar-dening, reading, knitting, crocheting, fishing, boating, outdoor gardening and foremost genealogy.

Survivors include one brother: Thomas Marion Karr and over 250 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Dottie (Muirheid) Karr, 11 brothers: William Shirley, Charles Herbert, Wilbur Edwin, Floyd Franklin, Raymond Willis, Robert Emmett, John Mayo, Henry, Frank, Calvin Baker and Francis Eugene Karr and 2 sisters: Alice Louise Summers and Nell Karr.
