Clarence F. Benedict of Lincoln

Clarence F. “Fred” Benedict, 91, of Lincoln passed away Friday (March 29, 2013) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

The funeral for Mr. Benedict will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Peasley Funeral Home, Lincoln.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 263, Lincoln.

Clarence Frederick Benedict was born Sept. 19, 1921, in McLean, the son of James Adam and Mary Ellen Wilson Benedict. He married Ada Mae Kinney. He later married Alzada Davenport on June 6, 1970. She preceded him in death.

Fred is survived by three sons, Gene Benedict, Wheeling; Dean Benedict, California; and Robert (Dorothy) Benedict, Lincoln; one daughter, Theresa (Charles) Funk, McLean; three stepsons, Darrell (Pat) Robertson, Mason City; Johnny Robertson, Santa Fe, N.M.; and Kenny (Alice) Robertson, Lincoln; two stepdaughters, Hazel Root, Lincoln, and Marjorie Gardner, Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Nora Emmons and Alice Comstock, both of Lincoln; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Carl Benedict; four sisters; nine brothers; one stepdaughter; and one stepson.

Fred served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the rank of seaman first class. He then worked as a journeyman union carpenter for 44 years, retiring in 1985.

 He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of American Legion Post 263 and Carpenters Union 568.
