Earl W. Smith

Earl W. Smith, almost 84 (9-30-1940), of Ashville, AL, formerly of Clinton, IL, passed away at home with his wife by his side on September 14, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Sherrie Smith, sons Doug (Dana) Smith and Derek (Debbie) Smith; step-daughters Amanda Krodel and Brandee (Fred) Moore; grandchildren Cheyenne (Andrew) Rempe, Dillon (Marissa) Smith, Dalton Smith, J.T. Clifton, Kallie Moore, Josiah Krodel, Mathias Krodel, Anya Krodel, Ariah Krodel, and Jude Krodel; great-grandsons Otto Rempe and Bowen Smith; and sister Shirley (Don) DeMent. He is predeceased by his parents Ivan and Louise Smith, and brother Michael Smith.

Shortly after graduating from Clinton High School in 1958, he served as a vehicle mechanic in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964. He returned to Clinton until moving to Alabama in 1996. Outside of family, his proudest accomplishment was being recognized as “The People’s Champion” by his employees at National Set Screw in Glencoe, AL.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 10:30am to 11:00am at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, AL. The funeral service will begin in the chapel at 11:00am with military Army Honors following.
