Rowena June Sago of Monticello

Rowena June Sago, 100, of Tatman Retirement Home, Monticello, formerly of Cisco, died at 12:51 a.m. Thursday (March 8, 2012) at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cisco United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Beedy officiating. Interment will be at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Memorials may be made to Cisco United Methodist Church, Tatman Village or a charity of the donor’s choice.

June was born June 22, 1911, in Argenta, the daughter of Conrad and Emma (Heinz) Hiser. She married Orville K. Sago on Dec. 4, 1930, in Argenta. He died Dec. 24, 1990.

June is survived by her son, William (Marilyn) Sago, Cisco; daughters, Doris (John) Hulett, Normal, and Janet (Joe) Felts, Rome, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen Clarkson, Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, one sister, one son and one grandchild.

June was a cook at Cisco Grade School and worked at 4-H Memorial Camp, Monticello.

She was a member of Cisco United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Clinton Order of the Eastern Star and was a past worthy matron of Cisco OES. She was also a member of  Piatt County Home Extension.

She enjoyed quilting for the American Legion, playing games, family gatherings and birthday parties, and was proud of making the Smuckers List with Willard Scott in honor of her 100th birthday.
