Edith B. Pope of Atlanta

Edith B. Pope, 93, of Atlanta passed away at 1:45 p.m. Friday (March 23, 2012) at The Christian Village Nursing Home, Lincoln.

The funeral for Mrs. Pope will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Atlanta Christian Church, with Mr. Maurice Stribling and Mr. Ryan Edgecombe officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Quiram Peasley Funeral Home, Atlanta.  Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery, Atlanta. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Atlanta Christian Church.

Edith B. Wilcoxson was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Eminence Township, Atlanta, the daughter of Roscoe and Irene Shifflet Wilcoxson. She married Keith Pope on March 2, 1937. They were married for 75 years. He survives in Lincoln.

Also surviving are one daughter, Julie (Leroy) Osborn, Atlanta; one sister, Rosemary Satterfield, Davenport, Fla.; six grandchildren, Keith Craig, Mark Craig, Jim Craig, Libby Robison, Daniel Osborn and Kristopher Osborn; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Donna Craig; one sister, Lorietta Murphy; one brother, John Wilcoxson; one granddaughter, Barbara Craig; and one great-grandson, Jared Osborn.

Edith graduated from Atlanta High School in 1936. She was a lifetime member of the Atlanta Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Sisters in Service. She was a member of the Atlanta Eminence Home Extension and numerous card clubs. She and her husband farmed in rural Atlanta their entire lives. She also owned and operated The Villager in Atlanta for nine years.
