John S. Pelc of Lincoln

John S. Pelc Jr., 90, of Lincoln passed away at 1:50 a.m. Saturday (March 10, 2012) at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Glenn Fontana officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln.

Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Stanley Pelc Jr. was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Lincoln, the son of John Stanley Pelc Sr. and Antonia Rudzienski Pelc. He married Mineva Henning of Elkader, Iowa, on Feb. 5, 1946. She survives.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Diana (Ward) McDonald of Mahomet and Paulette (Robert) Vandercook of Phoenix; four grandsons, John Pelc Vanderhook, and Aron, Joel and Brent McDonald; three stepgrandsons; three great-granddaughters; and one brother, Joseph Pelc of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Pelc and Henry Pelc.

John attended St. Mary’s parochial school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. He served in the Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador, at the time of his discharge in 1943.

He opened the Lincoln Cycle Center in 1944 at 202 S. Chicago St., and in 1959, he moved the business to 225 Clinton St. In 1996 he sold the business and entered retirement at the age of 75 after having been in business for 56 years.

He was a member of Holy Family Church and was a lifetime member of Lincoln Elks Lodge 914.
