Lois Powers Grimm (nee Barton), age 98, daughter of George and Mary Barton, was born February 16, 1927. She passed away August 13, 2025 in Columbia, MO.
Lois left home at an early age and lived in St. Louis for many years. She waitressed at Stan Musial and Biggies, where she met and then married Kenneth F. “Capp” Powers on February 17, 1965 in Clinton, IL. Lois and Capp were grain farmers and avid members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Elks Club in Clinton, IL until he passed away on April 27, 1988. Later Lois married Robert M. “Bob” Grimm on January 14, 1989. They moved to Missouri for a number of years before returning to Decatur, IL. Bob passed away on November 6, 2012. Lois moved to Missouri and lived in Houston, MO; Mountain Grove, MO; Rolla, MO; and Columbia, MO.
Lois was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sisters, Eva, Pearl, Iva, and Norma; brothers, Earnest, Everett, Clarence, Raymond, Eleda, Noah, John, Virgil, Arthur, Floyd, Lloyd, and Herbert; one granddaughter, Cindy Wirt; and one stepson, Robert D. Grimm.
She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Wirt (Fort Collins, CO) and her son, Kenny Powers (Irvington, KY); her stepdaughter, Roselyn “Rosie” (Gene) Sowers (Decatur, IL); her stepson, Randall Grimm (Clinton, IL); many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Johnson (Arnold, MO); as well as many nephews and nieces.
Lois was a loving and caring person, always selflessly helping others. She was also an amazing cook and was quick to share her recipes. Lois was a faithful Catholic throughout her life. In her later years, Lois was a voracious reader.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Our Lady of the Prairie Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wapella, IL with Fr. Thomas Szydlik, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Wapella, IL. Visitation will be 10-11 AM, Wednesday at Our Lady of the Prairie Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Wapella, IL. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Il. with arrangements.
