Marion L. Schmitz of Farmer City

Marion L. Schmitz, 84,  Farmer City, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) at Farmer City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill and Bill Walden officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Farmer City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Marion was born Oct. 20, 1928, in DeLand, a daughter of Dean and Pauline Dressback Oakley. She married Morris Dean Schmitz on Oct. 21, 1946, in Farmer City. He passed away Oct. 16, 1986.

She is survived by two sons, Terry D. (Julie) Schmitz, Buford, Ga., and Jerry L. Schmitz, Farmer City; daughter, Genreva “Skip” Payne, Hillsdale, Mich.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Richard “Dick” (Carolyn) Oakley, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and sister, Lucretia “Susie” Walden, Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a son-in-law.

Marion had worked in the housing department at the University of Illinois for 25 years. She was a member of First Christian Church, Farmer City; a life member of the Farmer City VFW Post 6190 Women’s Auxiliary; and a member of the Order of Moose Lodge, Bloomington.
