Kristine Elaine Sulzberger of Heyworth

Kristine “Kris” Elaine Sulzberger, 48, of Heyworth passed away Sunday (Oct. 27, 2013) at her residence.

Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Union Church, 2101 E. Washington St., Bloomington. The Rev. Andrew Gifford will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to METAvivor Research & Support Inc.  for metastatic breast cancer research at metavivor.org or St. Luke Union Church, Bloomington.

Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Kris was born July 13, 1965, in Decatur, the daughter of Paul R. Meredith and C. Elaine Bennett Meredith. She married David Sulzberger on May 23, 2009, in Heyworth. He survives.

Also surviving are her parents, father, Paul R. (Sandra) Meredith Sr., Ormond Beach, Fla., and her adoptive mother, M. Bernice Meredith, Bettendorf, Iowa; two sisters, Tara (David) Inghram, Urbandale, Iowa, and Sharyl (Kevin Stuart) Stein, Bettendorf, Iowa; one stepsister, Erika (Michael) Piper, Sullivan; three brothers, Jeffrey Meredith, Eldridge, Iowa; Stephen Meredith, Key West, Fla.; and Paul Meredith Jr., Eldridge, Iowa; and one stepbrother, Neil Elder, Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and mother.

Kris graduated from University of Illinois, Springfield, with a master’s in English. She taught English at Richland Community College, Decatur, for 11 years.

She was an accomplished flute player. She sang in the Decatur Chorale. She attended St. Luke Union Church, Bloomington. She was a breast cancer survivor for 18 years. She enjoyed her cats Dakota, Davita, Yogi and Kit.

The family would like to thank Dr. James Wade and his staff for his care and compassion shown to Kris. Her family would like to also thank her friends, students and colleagues for their special support shown to Kris.
