Joseph E. Stoerger, 86, of Monticello, passed away at 3:30 a.m., April 21, 2019 at Carle Hospital, Urbana.

 

Joe was born February 20, 1933 in Urbana, IL the son of Carl C. and Catherine (Bermingham) Stoerger of Ivesdale. He married Shirley Hosler on July 30, 1960 in Ivesdale.     

 

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Shirley Stoerger of Monticello. They have 3 children, Susan Jo Zasada (Andrew) of Champaign, Diane Miller (Randy) of Avon, IN, and Thad Stoerger (Molly) of Sanger, TX and Gloria Jack (mother of Danyell and Luke Stoerger). Also 8 grandchildren, Nick, Laura, Adam, Joshua, Jared, Joey, Danyell, Luke; great-granddaughter, Katie; brothers, Raymond and Robert Stoerger both of Ivesdale; sisters, Mary Kay Hartman of Pesotum, Rita Duncan of Somerset, IN and Patty Wilson of Bradley, also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.   

 

Joe was a farmer and worked 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service. Joe served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the St. Philomena Catholic Church, loved sports, truly enjoyed nature, birds, flowers, and going to his grandchildren’s activities.

 

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery with military graveside rites.

 

Flowers will be appreciated; other donations may be made to St. Philomena Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
