Elizabeth "Libby" Glasgow

Elizabeth “Libby” Hoskins Glasgow, age 100, of Monticello, passed away on March 31, 2019, at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.

 

Libby was born December 27, 1918 in Monticello, IL, to Floyd “Jack” and Ora Mae Alldridge Hoskins.

 

After graduating from Monticello High School in 1936, Libby worked at Kaiser Abstract Company and Caldwell Pepsin. She retired when she married Everett Glasgow on August 23, 1942. They farmed for 45 years, raising registered Shropshire sheep and Angus cattle. Everett died on November 17, 1987.

 

Libby was active in several organizations. She was a member for more than sixty years of the Piatt County Home and Community Education, as well as Kirby Auxiliary. For 17 years, she served as National Breed Secretary in the Monticello office of the American Shropshire Registry Association until her retirement in 1987. From 1929 on she was also a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by three nieces: Jane Murphy of Camarillo, CA; Rebecca Coira of Tequesta, FL; and Sara Sanders of Sartell, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Virginia, and her brother John “Jack”. In her later years she enjoyed a long friendship with Diane Alexander. She was also an ardent Cubs fan.

 

Graveside services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Monticello Township Cemetery with Rev. Craig Sweet officiating. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello is handling the arrangements.
