Shirley M. Bennett, 98, of Argenta, IL passed away 11:16 AM August 8, 2026 at Primrose of Decatur, Decatur, IL.

Visitation will be 10 AM – 11:30 AM, Friday, August 14, 2026 followed by services at 11:30 AM, at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, 4020 North Water St., Decatur, IL 62526 with Pastor Kent Bangert officiating.  Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. 

Memorials may be directed to Illini Congregational Church, Warrensburg, IL or the Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905.

Shirley was born July 9, 1928 in Harristown, IL the daughter of Harold and Kathleen (Brown) Gilman.  She married L. Gordon Bennett January 4, 1956 in Toledo, OH.  He passed away July 12, 2005. 

Survivors include her children, Carol (George) Streckfuss, Decatur, IL and Larry (Kathy) Bennett, Argenta, IL; grandchildren: Darcie (Patrick) McLoughlin, Chicago, IL; Kyli (Travis) Heckenkamp, Springfield, IL; Brady (Stacie) Streckfuss, Mt. Zion, IL; Matthew (Megan) Bennett, Forsyth, IL; Sarah Clark, Argenta, IL; and Julie Bennett, Argenta, IL; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Judy Ambrose, California.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Gilman; and one sister, Barbara Bivens.

Shirley was a member of the Illini Congregational Church and was also a member of Macon County Home Extension.  She worked at Houdaille-Hershey Plant in Decatur, IL and volunteered at Prairie Pulse and Decatur Memorial Hospital.
