Rowena Kathryn Fornear, 97, of Argenta, IL passed away 2:15 AM, June 21, 2026 at the Order of Eastern Star Home, Macon, IL.

Graveside services will be 1 PM Monday, June 29, 2026 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Sesser, IL with Pastor Larry Cook officiating.  Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Rowena was born July 18, 1928 in Woodlawn, IL the daughter of Gerald and Neva (Blankenship) Davis.  She married John William Fornear, Sr. June 28, 1947 in Morganfield, KY.  He passed away May 6, 1975.  She later married Ted Atteberry in Decatur, IL.  He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, John (Tara) Fornear, Jr., Argenta, IL and David (Kathleen) Fornear, Argenta, IL; step-daughters, Lynn (Everett) Fletcher, Forsyth, IL and Kathy Atteberry, Forsyth, IL; 12 grandchildren: Audra (Steve) Heckwine, Adam (Jill) Fornear, Erin Fornear, Morgan (Jake) Christison, Matthew Fornear, Elizabeth Smith, Connor Fornear, Robert “Bo” (Emma) Atteberry, Sunni (Nick) Delahunty, Karson (Mark) Schwarze, Andi (Raul Roel) Atteberry, and Cale (Allison) Atteberry; and 23 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Glenn Davis; stepsister, D’Etta Heard; and stepson, Ray Atteberry.

Rowena was a member the Argenta Presbyterian Church.  She retired from the Argenta Post Office after more than 15 years of service where she served as a Postal Clerk and Postmaster.  Rowena was also the Secretary at Argenta-Oreana High School.  She enjoyed traveling, taking trips with her close friends, but most of all Rowena loved spending time with her grandchildren.
