Springfield - Donald Marvin Fugate, 88 of Springfield Illinois (formerly of Clinton Illinois), passed away on June 8, with his wife and family by his side. Donald was born November 19, 1937 in Clinton Illinois to Everett McKinley Fugate and Reatha Mae (Turpin) Fugate.
From an early age, Don started farming with his father, went on to graduate in 1955 from Weldon High School, then began his career of 42 years at Caterpillar Tractor. Even after retiring, Donald continued his farming which he referred to as his place of peace.
Over the years, on top of both of his careers, he found time to be on the University of Illinois Extension Board, part of the Clinton zoning board of appeals, and the Creek Union drainage commissions. He was also a long time member of the Clinton United Methodist Church where he served on their board and was a member of the choir for over 50 years.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Norma Jean Rodgers He is survived by his wife Marilyn (Schoneweis) Fugate of 43 years, sister Mary Lou Ferguson, his children Donald Lynn Fugate (Nancy), and Deanna Brown (Carl), three step-children, Rebecca Gilmore(Don), Rachel Garren (Janie) and Ross Garren (Rene). Four grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and many great and step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Clinton United Methodist Church on June 15th, starting with a visitation at 10, followed by a church service at 11 and the burial following at Weldon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clinton United Methodist Church.
