Steven Alan “Scoop” Mattingly 71 of Clinton, IL graduated to heaven on Friday, June 5th, 2026 at home in Clinton, IL.

Steve is survived by his children, Leah (Michael) & Hannah (Justin) Mattingly, grandchildren, Kaiser, Sawyer, Maddyx, and Brantley, and beloved dog Gus. He also leaves behind his brother, Myron (Deb) Mattingly and many nieces and nephews. 

Steve was born in Tuscola, IL on December 13th, 1954 the son of Denni Lee and Virginia Kathleen (Scott) Mattingly, Jr. and grew up in Arcola until the family moved to Mahomet in 1967. He graduated from Mahomet Seymour High School in 1973. He joined the Laborers Local Union 703 in November of 1974 where he later retired in 2008.

He married Emily Jane Clapper on September 4th, 1987. They were married 34 years before her passing in 2022. They welcomed their first daughter (Leah) in 1990 and second daughter (Hannah) in 1993. 

Steve was a member of the Sons of The American Legion. He enjoyed coaching his children in sports, camping, boating, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He was a hardworking, honest, loyal, and dependable man that will be deeply missed.

Celebration of Steve’s life will be at a later date. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with cremation rites.
