Eunice Louise (“Tootsie”) Tobin, 93, passed away May 30, 2026. Eunice and her husband Jim Tobin were longtime residents of Farmer City following their marriage on January 28, 1956. They moved to Glenwood Assisted Living (Mahomet) in 2014 and Jim passed October 31, 2017. Eunice has resided at The Loft in Normal since 2021.
She was born January 5, 1933, in LeRoy, daughter of Lester and Ruth (Shoemaker) Scott. Most folks in LeRoy knew her as “Tootsie” or “Toots” Scott. Following the untimely death of Ruth, Miriam Scott became “Tootsie’s” stepmother in 1936.
On Saturday, June 6th, visitation will begin at 2 and funeral will be at 3 at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home in Farmer City with Deacon Scott Whitehouse officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Memorials may be made to the Farmer City Garden Club.
Survivors include three children, Janet E. Caldwell, Bloomington, Donna L. (Harold) Alderman, LeRoy, and Paul T. (Peggy) Tobin, Farmer City. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jennie (Paul) Calhoon, Erin (Kyle) Winters, Rebecca (David) Matakas, Ryan Sessions, Jim (Mershon) Tobin, and Katelyn (Dan) Wayeshe; and seven great-grandchildren, Jessica (Travis) Hull, Quinton Calhoon, Kaylin and Jace Winters, Samantha and Camille Matakas, Carter Tobin, Asher and Miller Wayeshe.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 older half-brothers, a half-sister, a younger sister, her grandson Jonathan Sessions, her sons-in-law Gary D. Caldwell and Paul A. Arrowsmith, and her great-great grandson Leland Hull.
Eunice was a great cook and baker, but she preferred to spend time outdoors so fostered outdoor interests in her offspring. As the children became adults, most of the yard was converted from play space to flower beds. Eunice became very involved in the Garden Club in 1998 and hosted their annual plant sale for years. She was an assistant teacher for the Junior Master Gardeners class for children. A generosity with sharing her plants and knowledge about them has resulted in plants from her garden being spread far beyond Farmer City. Additionally, Eunice enjoyed her friends at TOPS and road trips.
Eunice enthusiastically recognized many holidays throughout the year with plentiful decorations and often with gifts. Her grandchildren could rely on her expertise in shopping to fulfill their wants and needs for birthdays and at least 3 holidays each year.
