Mary Sandra Stapleton, 83, of Clinton, IL passed away 1:25 PM, January 5, 2026 at Copper Creek Villages, Lincoln, IL.

Services will be 11 AM, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Cody Monkman officiating. Burial will follow at Mausoleum Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL Visitation will be 10-11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to The National Breast Cancer Foundation, The Dementia Society of America, or The Alzheimer’s Association.

Mary was born June 18, 1942 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Earl Willis and Regina Dorothy (Danowski) Sullivan. She married John H. Stapleton July 28, 1979 in Clinton, IL. He passed away May 1, 2011. John and Mary had a happy life together.

Survivors include her children, Doug (Dana) Smith and Derek (Debbie) Smith; three grandchildren, Cheyenne (Andrew) Rempe; Dillon (Marissa) Smith; Dalton (Marissa) Smith; four great-grandchildren, Otto Rempe, Bowen Smith, Willow Rempe, and Wiley Rempe; siblings, Bernard (Ella) Sullivan and Linda (Nelson) Thorp; and many relatives from her marriage to John.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Dewey Newberry; and brother, Jimmy Sullivan.

Mary had been the bookkeeper for Stapleton Trucking. She also worked at State Farm, General Electric, the DeWitt County CO-OP where she met John, and the Clinton Power Station-Baldwins.  Mary owned Stapleton Fitness and Christmas Haus.  Mary enjoyed antiques, jewelry, auctions, cats, and especially her grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed.
