Herbert Dale Porter, Sr, 78, of Harristown, IL passed away 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2025 at his family residence, Harristown, IL.

Services will be 12 noon, Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta, IL with Pastor Brian Canaday officiating.  Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL.  Visitation will be 10 AM – 12 noon, Saturday, December 13, 2025 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Herbert was born January 21, 1947 in Tamalco, IL the son of Herbert F. Porter and was raised by his grandmother, Nora Gatewood, who he considered his mom.  He married Lynda Gum March 23, 1964 in Vandalia, IL.  She passed away March 13, 2006.  He later met Carolyn Stiles in 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Stiles, Harristown, IL; children:  Valory Lynn (Ronnie) Jordan, Illiopolis, IL; Herbert Dale (Pam) Porter, Jr., Cerro Gordo, IL; and Tiffany Lee Porter, husband Andy, Portland, OR; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Herman Porter, Assumption, IL.; and his cousin with whom he was raised, Zandy Gatewood, Rosamond, IL.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents.

Herbert was a farmer and heavy equipment operator.  He loved deer hunting, fishing, Western movies, and John Wayne.
