Bonnie Arlene Lichtenberger

Bonnie Arlene Lichtenberger (neé Hickerson) passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025.

She was born in Greenville, Illinois on February 6, 1936.  She was the third child of Ronald and Lavonne (neé Reese) Hickerson. Her childhood led her through central Illinois and West Virginia, as her father was a minister and moved often.  She spent her high school years in Urbana and graduated from Urbana High School in 1954.  She then attended Lincoln Bible College for a year.

On July 3, 1955, she married W. Wayne Lichtenberger.  They were married for 68 years until his death in October 2023.  They had two sons, Erik and Karl, and spent time living in Illinois, California, Hawaii, California (again), Washington and finally Arizona, where they spent their final years in Gold Canyon.

Bonnie was many things. An avid sportswoman, she played tennis and golf over the years, backpacked in the Sierra mountains and attended many sporting events, especially baseball games in Oakland and Seattle.  She was a reader her whole life, and mysteries were her favorites.  She was a devout church member, always active in support of the ministry, both in bible study and music outreach.  She was an active singer, being a member of many choirs and groups over the years, singing as an alto (she always thought those sopranos got too much credit).  She was a loving and supportive mom and grandmother and late in life had the joy of seeing great grandchildren.  She always had a puzzle and a smile on her face when you came to visit, and would often mix a batch of homemade fudge, the best ever.

She is survived by her sons, Erik (Deborah) and Karl (Michelle Gutierrez), grandchildren Ruth Lichenberger (Eric Neimy), Samantha (Daniel) Cole, Matthew Lichtenberger, Ryan Lichtenberger, Ari Lichtenberger, and great-grandchildren Cyrus and River Neimy and Josephine Cole.  She also leaves beloved friends Charlotte Needham and Momi Buren, many nieces and nephews and cousins of her own.  Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald T. and LaVonne Hickerson, her husband W. Wayne Lichtneberger, and brothers R. Dean, Max and J. Kent Hickerson.

Graveside services will be held on November 15, 2025 at the White County Memorial Garden, in the Garden of the Good Shepherd, at 11AM.  Pastor Greg Grant will preside.  A later memorial service will be held in her hometown of Gold Canyon.  Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL is in charge of arrangements
